A skunk by any other name

Once again, wind farmer's almanac skewers the Alliance ...

"Take note of the curious news brief appearing in last week's Barnstable Patriot and reproduced here -

"Looks like the Alliance is in the market for a new name; apparently they've fallen short with that catchy moniker they initially chose.

"Several other possibilities come to mind, as I wrote on April Fools Day last year in the guise of a David Letterman "Top Ten" list, posted again with a few minor changes --

"And the drum roll please ...

Number 1o - Who Speaks for the Yachts?
Number 9 - We Hate Pinwheels Too
Number 8 - Save Our Sound for Cigarette Boat Races
Number 7 - Environmentalists for Fossil Fuels
Number 6 - Yes In Fact We Do Own the Whole Damn Sound
Number 5 - It's Not the View, It's the Distortion
Number 4 - Alliance to Protect Cute Birds
and Cuddly Widdle Seals
Number 3 - Ministry of Truth
Number 2 - Exemplars of Renewable Energy
... and the Number 1 possible new name for the Alliance ... Keep the Sound a No-Spin Zone!"

You know it's this kind of petty crap that makes me question the wind farm project. If Cape Wind was so important and so needed they supporters of the project wouldn't act like 2nd graders. I take that back, I have a second grader and he would act like this.

Ergo... If you are having difficulty figuring it out...

If you have no substantive, sustainable argument against the project... Attack the integrity of the developers and the proponents who support renewable energy...

Because... The potential viewscape is going to be objectionable to the opponents.

ie... Nantucket Sound.

A "national treasure" - Ha!

When the Dal'liance accepts and understands the mission they should be undertaking...

Cleaning up ACK sound... By way of steming the pollution from the very homes that want to "Save their... um: View" -

Then, and only then, will they begin to have the credibility they so crave.

When the core group of the paid 'envoirmentalists' finally come to grips with the rational that they have been fiscally duped by the deep pocketed single minded, selfish... Individuals who don't give a rats butt about anyone except themselves...

Maybe, just maybe... They will be forgiven for the injustice that they have been a part of.

Personally, I would be embarressed...

Of course, then again...

There are times...

It is far from "good" the example... The anti-Cape Wind zealots relentlessly promote.

Their idea of sticking to the issues...

Is sticking it to... The unsuspecting and uninformed in the way of propababble and outright lies.

The tactics they use are far from "petty"...

To suggest that it is other than the VIEW... They are most interested in "Protecting"...

Is... "terribly annoying" indeed.

Why not try and stick to the truth as it pertains to the real issues?...

And not misguided representations of the danger we will face when the project is built.

I would have a lot more respect of the opponents if there was not so many smelly red-herrings thrown into the fray.

Then we will... "Thank you."

For the sake of clarity, capri, your argument is your opposition to Cape Wind. If you'd like to make it more specific than that, by all means.

Given your much-professed loathing of zealotry and smear tactics, I look forward to you making your assertions without resorting to the kneejerk dogmatic claim of many Cape Wind opponents that Jim Gordon lives to worship filthy lucre.

All I know is that a Cape Wind supporter and probably investor started this juvenile thread in the first place! The Alliance incorporated, that's hardly news.

Honestly, I have young children and this is the type of stuff they do when they can't get their way. I could care less of about the Wind Farm. I actually think putting a wind farm in Ted Kennedy's back yard is hilarious but really don't care if it's built!

In response to your queries about alternative sites, capri, Cape Wind went through a thorough analysis of alternative sites, both land-based and offshore, back in 2003. Of nearly a dozen and a half sites evaluated, Horseshoe Shoal was deemed the best by the Army Corps of Engineers.
It isn't just the Army Corps and Cape Wind saying this about Horseshoe Shoal, so is Jay Cashman, the developer who wants to build three wind farms in Buzzards Bay. At a public hearing in Fairhaven earlier this month, Cashman said he had also looked at several sites and concluded that Horseshoe Shoal is the best location in the Northeast to build a wind farm.
As for whether MMS deems Cape Wind a threat to Horseshoe Shoal, an unlikely scenario in my opinion, it would be up to Cape Wind to respond at that point in deciding what to do. Clean Power Now is still evaluating the Buzzards Bay proposal, which was unveiled only two months ago, and has not taken a position on it.

Capri... The "lies" I refer to are, for a start:

- You will be able to see the turbines from the Airport Rotary.
- The project will decimate the fishing industry.
- The 24 square miles encompassing the project will be off limits to us.
- The project will destroy the tourist industry on Cape Cod.
- The project will kill whales.
- The project will drastically increase the jellyfish and shark population.
- The project will decimate the birds and wildfowl.
- They were not behind the deeds of Ted Kennedy and other representatives who have tried to insert backdoor amendments into important congressional bills that would kill the project.
- There are insurmountable navigation and safety issues that cannot be resolved.

- And of course...

The BIG LIE:
- Our primary objection is not about THE VIEW!

Now, of course... They are trying desperatly to reinvent themselves by calling themselves (HA!) of all things:

"~SOUNDKEEPERS~"

"It is always the best policy to tell the truth, unless, of course you are an exceptionally good liar." - J. Jerome

The Dal'liance is not.

No one likes a: SMART ASS [Visitor] writes:
Yeah, I know... Now they ARE telling the truth...

They want to ~keep the sound~...

For themselves. The hell with the rest of you. We don't really care about cleaner air, water, food...

After all, most of the deep pockets that fund our organization is from the southfacing waterfront owners of property who are only here a few months of the year...

They don't have to suffer the long term effects of this cloud of noxious air that surrounds the Cape and the Islands.

Capri... By way of ~ommission~ I interpret your query as to the future of Clean Power Now...

As being directly linked to what the Dal'alliance is attempting to do by 'reinventing' themselves into a more er... 'sustainable' organization...

For one purpose... In order to dupe the unsuspecting and uninformen into thinking and accepting they are not a ~wolf in sheeps clothing~ at all but an entity that is here for good and for the common good.

What a joke.

Capri...
I have been tangleing with this group since its inception about 5/6 years ago.

When the project was first proposed I had no opinion one way or the other.

When the Dal'alliance began to make what I felt were outrageous statements of 'fact' and fearmongering...

I decided I had to learn more about the project and I did.

As far as I am concerned the Dal'liance is not interested in the public good at all.

It doesn't take a scientist to understand the methodologies of what the opposition is up to... Pure and simple propaganda/propababble.

Say it or print it enough and the unsuspecting and gullible will start to believe...

You have to hand it to them... They have been quite successful - Millions of dollars to kill the project are still pouring in from those with the views.

A quick check of the map that the Dal'alliance had made up about 4 years ago that was quite specific of what they wanted the public to believe where you would be able to see the turbines...

My assertations are quite well documented in the press and by their own publication.

No one likes a: SMART ASS [Visitor] writes:
I whole-heartedly agree with you and anyone else who has an HONEST objection to what they believe will be a negative impact on their VIEW.

As beauty is in the eyes of the beholder... I can only offer that I have been to Hull to see and hear that unit...

I have been to the two offshore wind farms in Denmark... and been right below the turbines both on land and shore.

From my perspective they are breathtaking and magnificient and will bring some to tears being in their presence - by way of understanding not only what they represent, but by what they are able to do without damaging our enviorment...

Lest I not mention, the beauty of a sculpture in motion that even the most ardent detractor I say... would find it hard not to be so moved.

If I misinterpreted your query Capri I apoligize...

I do however stand by my assertations of the so-called 'Soundkeepers' and their intent.

I would daresay... You might... Just agree with me for a change.

Yeah, I know Capri... Jack is my hero too!

Well, if you think telling the truth about an organization such as the Dal'liance and pointing out facts about how THEY have lied and fearmongered...

Comes down to "going overboard and finger-pointing" on MY part...

If you think THAT "destroys any credibility (I) have in support of (my) position"...

I think baffles many more than me.

"Summing up an organization..." With facts seems to disturb you...

Seems to me you would rather "debate" the integrity of the Dal'alliance than the issues.

All it would take is a review of the last 3/4 years ads in local papers by your cohorts @ the Dal'liance to verify what has been none other than your so-called "smear campaign" in spades.

~Themselves.

Carpi... When the Dal'liance makes statements, places ads in newspapers, posts on blog sites: Outright lies, fearmongering, misleading statements, misrepresentations etc...

They open themselves up to MY RIGHT to dispute what they publicly say.

I don't ever recall them saying... "In our opinion..."

They can have an opinion all they want... But when it crosses the line as a propaganda campaign designed to sway public opinion based on what I have described above...

I will do my best to offset the obvious intent to obsfucate the good that the project will bring to us.

I am 56 going on 16:~)

The Department of the Interior doesn't appear to agree with the USACE with regard their deeming of Nantucket Sound as a suitable site for Cape Wind. The DOI response matrix states:

"Four alternative locations are identified as representative sites for additional environmental review and comparison purposes. The iterative analysis is to “help provide calibration for the weighing and balancing of the probable impacts and benefits of the proposed alternative.” It is not clear how this iterative analysis, the summary, or Table 3-57 sharply define the issues and provide a clear basis for choice among options, or how they meet other NEPA or Public Interest Review requirements."
