Along Shore
Tom Leach, the Harwich Harbormaster, writes about the ebb & flow of the Nantucket Sound and Pleasant Bay waterfronts.Welcome to our harbors
The Harbormasters Office is also the Harwich Natural Resources Department, promoting shellfish propagation, estuary & pond water quality monitoring, herring run management and the operation of Allen Harbor, Wychmere Harbor, Herring River, Round Cove and Saquatucket Municipal Marina. Harwich is a Federal No-Discharge Area.

To the rescue
Today this 27 foot O'Day sloop. the "Lesser Lights" from Noank CT, came ashore at the head of Pleasant Bay in East Harwich.
The harbormaster's office went to the scene to secure the vessel and informed the owner of its condition.
The sailboat's mooring line apparently parted due to last night 40 mph winds which are blowing into the bay from the east-northeast.
The Harwich Harbormaster crew was able to pull the boat back afloat, and then moved it to a temprary mooring in Round Cove which is just beyond the boat in the photo above.
Mooring fee story in The Cape Codder
Harwich boatowners may be interested in the story on possible increases in dockage fees which appeared here in last week's The Cape Codder.
About

Tom Leach has been the natural Resource officer and Harbormaster in Harwich for decades. Better than most mariners, he can tell us about life "along shore" on this narrow land. For further information you can visit the harbormaster's web site here.
