Works of art will be offered in a Silent Auction including a variety of three-dimensional objects, Art in Another Form, and a Live Auction. This year along with the traditional art offerings, participants can bid on artful experiences and other things that don’t hang on the wall. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served during the Silent Auction. A fabulous dinner will follow the Live Auction. The auctioneer for the evening will be Terry Catalano of Outer Cape Auctions.
This year’s special works include: Still Life with a Metallic Jar, a stunning oil painting by Robert Douglas Hunter, and Truro Tidal Pool, a beautiful pastel landscape by Rosalie Nadeau, P.S.A. Among the artful experiences, donated by Craig and Peggy Ashworth, is a sunset harbor cruise on the high bidder’s choice of a sail or antique motor boat. Master carver Erik Kaiser will offer two of his bird carvings – see them both on-line at www.ccmoa.org – auction. Kevin Nolan’s ceramic bird bath, one of the most popular works in the Cape Cod Potter’s exhibition held at the museum this spring, will be available in the Live Auction.
The auction is CCMA’s major fundraiser of the year. Non-members are welcome to come and participate. Tickets for cocktails and the Silent Auction are $75 per person; cocktails, Silent and Live Auctions and dinner are $150 per person. Tables are available. Artist George Booth Exhibit at the Guyer Art Barn through August 9th
Artist reception to be held Friday, July 31st
George Booth, will be featured in a solo exhibit, Recent Works on Paper at the Guyer Barn at 250 South Street in Hyannis, now through August 9th, 2009. Everyone is invited to the
artist reception, Friday, July 31st from 6 to 9PM. The exhibit runs through August 9th, Friday through Sunday, 11AM-4PM.
George Booth’s strong, bold figure drawings/paintings are powerful. There is tremendous emotion in his work. Booth states, "My work is about the process of drawing, more than any concern with final result. I use a combination of media so I can be more flexible and responsive while working, be 'in-the-moment', and see where the image goes or stops or changes direction. When change becomes necessary, I prefer to be radical, to open up possibilities once more. Inviting this chaos allows me and the image to happen, and is the motivation for my work."
Guyer Art Barn Director, Mellissa Morris says about the artist, "George Booth is Sigmund Freud meets Pietro Jacometti!"
Guyer Barn is a showcase for emerging and established local artists. It is a community art space, a working artist studio and professional artist gallery supporting and promoting the arts. Located at 250 South Street Hyannis in Hyannis. For more information call 508-862-4990 or visit www.harboryourarts.com.
Art-related program for people living with Alzheimer's at CCMA June 15th
Alzheimer’s program at Cape Cod Museum of Art
The Cape Cod Museum of Art, in partnership with Alzheimer’s Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, presents an art-related program for people living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, Monday, June 15 at 1 pm.
Museum Educators will lead discussions of artwork from the CCMA collection in the museum’s galleries at 60 Hope Lane (off Route 6A), Dennis.
The newly established program provides an opportunity for people living with Alzheimer’s to get together with their peers once a month at the CCMA. The use of art in Alzheimer’s care is said to promote communication and reduce stress for both those with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
For more information on the program or to make a reservation for June 15, call 508-385-4477, ext. 16.
