Brewster Recreation Update - Halloween Haunt, Cooking With Mommy, Wii Tournament and more!
Are you ready for Halloween yet? We are! Preparations are underway for the Brewster Recreation Halloween Haunt at Ocean Edge on Saturday, October 25! Mark your calendar . . . there'll be fun for everyone, with a Black Maze, Ghost Story-Telling and some not-so-scary treats and art projects for the little ones too! Entry fee will be $3 each with all proceeds to benefit the Brewster Needy Fund and other Brewster Recreation programs. Stay tuned for details!
Speaking of treats, another "Cooking With Mommy" class at the Brewster Baptist Church is forming for kids ages 3-5 and their adult partner. The classes are on Fridays 9:30AM - 10:30AM. Session #1 (Oct. 17-31) students will cook up some scary treats like an edible haunted house, candy aplpes and more! Session #2 (Dec. 5-20) will focus on Holiday Cookies and other delicious holiday treats. A minimum of 6 students need to sign up for the class to take place and the maximum is 12. Fee is $30 ($40 for non-residents) and includes all materials.
We are excited to see your entries for the logo contest starting to come in. Be sure to complete yours and have it in our hands by the deadline, Friday, November 5! Some people have asked if they can work on the entry together as a group and the answer is, OF COURSE! You can do whatever you want, as long as it's on 8 ½ x 11 white copy paper!
For all you Middle Schoolers, don't forget about our special Gaming Night next Friday from 7:00PM - 9:30PM at Eddy School where the gym will be transformed into a Rock Block stage complete with projection screen for the most awesome Guitar Hero Tournament on this side of the bridge! The Rec. Room will also host Mario Cart, Wii Sports and "The Bigs" games as well! Bring your favorite controller and have some fun! The fee is $10 per student and all proceeds go toward the Brewster Rec. Middle School Advisory Council.
Lastly, when you come into the office to sign up or visit, please add your guess to the Candy Corn Count list! The corns will be counted on Oct. 31 and one lucky winner will be drawn from the pool of correct guesses! The Grand Prize is a $50 gift certificate toward a rec program of your choice!

Brewster Recreation Logo Contest
CALLING ALL ARTISTS!!!!
Brewster Recreation Dept. Logo Contest
The Brewster Recreation Department invites artists of all ages to submit entries for a department logo to be used for multi-media communications, representing the department's mission to utilize the Town of Brewster's many beautiful parks, beaches and facilities to provide residents and visitors of Brewster and the Lower Cape with quality recreational activities that challenge the body and spirit across all generations.
The winning entry will be selected in November and the artist will receive a prize package that includes special recognition in the winter, spring and summer brochures with a full-page biography and photo. Additionally, the winner will receive dinner for four at a local restaurant and a $50 certificate for Brewster Recreation programs.
All entries must be submitted on blank white paper measuring 8 ½" wide x 11" high along with an entry form taped to the back. Entry forms are available in the office at 2298 Main Street, Brewster or on line at www.town.brewster.ma.us. Entry forms may be mailed (please don't fold it!!) or hand-delivered to the office during business hours (Monday - Friday 9AM - 4PM). Brewster residents and visitors of all ages may submit one entry each. Entries should be in color but the winning entry will be used in both color and black and white. Judges will be asked to take this into consideration when selecting their favorite entry. The words "Brewster Recreation Department" or an abbreviated variation (i.e. "Brewster Rec") must be included. The theme of the artwork should reflect the department's mission statement (to utilize the Town of Brewster's many beautiful parks, beaches and facilities to provide residents and visitors of Brewster and the Lower Cape with quality recreational activities that challenge the body and spirit across all generations). DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2008 AT 4pm. Winner will be notified by telephone.

BREWSTER REC. OFFERS FUN PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS THIS FALL!!!
Not only is the Town of Brewster's Recreation Department offering an extensive selection of youth programming this fall, but adults will have a multitude of choices as well!
TENNIS - Intermediate Doubles Clinics (Tuesdays), Cardio Tennis (Wednesdays) and Stroke of the Week (Fridays) will be held at the Nickerson Courts behind the fire station on Rte. 6A starting September 23. Each of these classes has something for everyone, from beginner to expert! Instructor Susan Fraser will help you to improve your game!
YOGA - LifeForce Yoga to Manage Your Mood (Mondays) with instructor Karen Corcoran and Kripula Yoga (Wednesdays) instructed by Maria Nalini Krikorian will be offered at the Eddy School. The two types of yoga are ideal for those who want to find serenity through breathing, meditation and movement techniques specific to the different approaches of these ancient practices. Ages 16+.
SeniorFit Exercise Classes will again be offered at the Council on Aging on Mondays and Wednesdays. This class is designed to work the major muscle groups, allowing participants to maintain body mass, HDL levels, bone density and in general, to keep you doing the things you love to do! The aid of a chair can be used for this class which is designed for a more gentle approach to an effective workout. Participants must bring their own hand-held 1lb.-3lb. weights and a floor mat.
Women's Pick-Up Softball games at the Town Hall Fields on Wednesday evenings will also be offered. Kayaks are available to rent on Upper Mill Pond for spectacular fall foliage viewing!
Other exclusive collaborations with local businesses include Intro to Horses and Riding Instruction offered on Saturdays at Windsong Farm in Brewster; and
Adult Swim sessions at Willy's Gym in Eastham from 7:30PM - 9:00PM Monday - Friday throughout the month of October.
All programs are offered to everyone and are affordably priced. Non-residents will be charged $10 extra for each class. Registrations are now being accepted for all programs. Registration forms are available online at www.town.brewster.ma.us, but must be brought or mailed to the office at 2298 Main Street, Brewster MA 02631. Some classes are limited to a maximum number of participants, so please sign up today! A waitlist will be generated and additional classes may be offered depending on instructors' availability. Those who are waitlisted will be contacted by phone.
