I do enjoy how people toss around the word "socialism", as if they know what they are talking about. If you apply what I think people mean by it, then there all sorts of aspects of this "socialism" that we've accepted already, the idea of progressive taxation, for example. If you want to scream about socialism, well you best talk to the current Bush Administration about any number of corporate bailouts. Hundreds of billions for corporate America, but vetos 7 billion a year to give 10 million more kids health care.

Obama said something like "if we spread the wealth around, more people will prosper"...as in, giving MIDDLE class people a tax break so they can spend more money and "spread it around". As in letting the wealthy pay their fair share, so MIDDLE incomes don't get soaked into oblivion. AS the middle pay state, federal, and payroll. $90,000.+ don't pay into payroll. Stop letting corporate welfare rule. Hoarding money so they can buy more luxury jets, homes and vacations.Trickle down my ass. It's been trickle up! And meanwhile.....all you yahoos and hurrahs are letting VETERANS live on the streets cause YOU don't want any "social" programs for them. But. I will try as far as my understanding goes:
Incomes of up to $35-45,000(not sure which is the cut-off) pay the payroll tax only.
Incomes from $45-90,000 pay payroll, state and federal.
Incomes from $90,000 up pay state and federal only.
Now, the thing is, the payroll tax is the highest tax of them all...it is more than the state and federal income taxes COMBINED. So, whenever anyone says "Poor people don't pay taxes",they are wrong. As a PERCENTAGE of their incomes, they pay more to the gvt. than the $90,000 and up earners. UNLESS you own a business, then you get hit with a lot more (from my understanding).
And don't pretend that businesses don't have all kind of corporate loop-holes and tricks to get out of paying any tax whatsoever. WHICH Obama wants to close. And that is a good idea.

I heard what Obama said and it's NOT what you think he said. He said "spread the wealth". We don't need for Americans to pay more taxes, we need goverment to spend less.

That is what I was trying to point out. Both the federal and the state income taxes COMBINED are not as much as the payroll tax is. And, since FICA has a limit of 97,500...they are exempt from paying it anymore...the biggest tax on the block (at least on my paycheck)
So, both the working poor and the working middle class in effect, pay more a PERCENTAGE of their incomes to the gvt. OK? The $97,500 pay less a share of their wealth. The amount is only more cause they have more. You still TAKE more a % of the earnings from the less well-off.
And, the crisis will happen before the

I am not thrilled with either candidate. But I think it is unfair for the national media to trash Sarah and look for hangnails while letting Obama's serious faults lay unexposed.

The truth always comes out in the wash. Time will tell. We will survive with or without all of them.

Live gives us many choices, I prefer to go through it happy. You, well...bitter it seems. If McCain becomes President, you'll be miserable. If Obama becomes President, you'll still be miserable.

I don't know what kind of hand you were dealt, but I know it's NOT the government's fault, that much I can guarantee.

You have more of an opportunity to make a living, get an education than your grandmother or mine. And they did it without whining, knowing that this is the greatest country on earth.
