The key Cape races and where to vote

Where do I vote?

Tuesday, September 19th is primary day and the polls will be open from 7am-8pm.  If you are not sure where you vote, visit WhereDoIVoteMA.com and enter your street number, street name, suffix, city/town and zip code.  If all goes well, the search will reveal your voting place.

The site also allows you to view the candidates on your ballot--just choose Democratic or Republican.

Unenrolled voters

Unenrolled voters (the official name for Independents) are allowed to choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot in order to vote in the primary.  Once you have cast your vote and it is  not a presidential primary, your status will remain unenrolled.  If it is a presidential primary (as it will be in 2008), your status will remain that of the party you chose.  Once you vote in a presidential primary, you must fill out a card at the precinct in order to revert back to your unenrolled status.  Cards should be available at your precinct.

Campaign signs stolen just before primary vote -

Police are investigating the theft of $750 worth of campaign signs a candidate for state Senate said were stolen from outside his Centerville home overnight.

Ricardo Barros, Republican candidate for the Cape and Islands state Senate, told police the signs were snatched from outside his apartment on Route 132 near Old Strawberry Hill Road, according to Barnstable Police Sgt. Sean Sweeney.

According to the police report, this morning, sometime between 2:30 and 4 a.m., a neighbor, a relative of Barros who lives in the same housing complex, saw a white commercial van idling outside the building. The woman saw two white men outside and heard one say something like, "Did you get them all?" The other apparently replied "Yeah, let's go."

The woman told police she thought it was a newspaper delivery van, and went back to bed. In the morning, however, 150 campaign signs that had been resting against the south side of the house outside had disappeared.

I'm amazed that my recent comment has been deleted. Here it is again as it is of paramount importance to the integrity of the upcoming General Election, and in the interest of voters should be well broadcast (to say the least):

More missing campaign signs

Demetrius Atsalis has recently been intimidating his current opponent, Carl Yingling, with the vicious threat of removing Carl's campaign signs and re-depositing the signs at Town Hall. Hours later, Carl's signs were indeed "stolen" from a number of locations today and are still "missing." Carl has since filed a complaint with the local Police. It appears that Atsalis does not believe that anyone but himself has a right to campaign for the office of State Rep. in our district. Apparently, Mr. Atsalis does not believe in Democracy in general, or fair play in particular. He also intercepted and verbally intimidated Carl during a door to door campaign when Mr. Yingling was in the process of distributing campaign literature for the upcoming General Election, something Atsalis has often done on behalf of his own campaign.

anon,

Don't be amazed, this is the same guy who refused to pay the $15 beach parking who has relatives in Hyannis who run the show...Joan what's her name, and businessman with much influence, does he stills write here? Who knows? Anyway, during your Grand Poobah, the DA, race, his opponent's signs would be found ripped in half and thrown across Rt. 124 or simply vanished. I guess it tells two messages: One is--to voters: don't vote for this guy and two, to the opponent: we don't want you running for election. A friend who was managing his opponent's campaign, described a dark van with tinted glass sitting at his door, on several occasions...intimidation, and childish bullying are the way of Cape Cod politics, I guess. But I have a feeling the good people of Cape Cod have had enough of their shenanigans. Keep the faith, miracles do happen.
