Kennedy dumped diesel fuel into Nantucket Sound
Did the yacht Mya discharge diesel fuel into Sound after 2002 Figawi Race?

Politician appears to pollute "pristine Nantucket Sound"

By now every Cape Codder has heard our senior US senator Ted Kennedy proclaiming his resistence to the Cape Wind project on Nantucket Sound because, as he said, "that's where I sail."
He has called Nantucket Sound "a national treasure", but his love and respect does not extend to his own habits, as these photos appear to show his crew dumping diesel fuel from the bilge of his yacht Mya into the same waters he tries to prevent others from using for renewable energy projects.
The photographer was so shocked as the scene unfolded on the day that the 2002 Figawi Race ended in Hyannis, that he put his dingy into the water and rowed out to question the crew member left aboard Mya that May day.
After he approached the yacht, the diesel slick coming from Mya was clear and spreading.
He asked the crewman "what the hell are you doing?"
The crewman told him that diesel had gotten into the bilge and he was ordered to dump it.
When told that he was moored in coastal waters near shellfish beds and people swimming, the man replied, "whatever."
F. Scott Fitzgerald's character Gatsby was right when he said, "the rich are different than you and I."

Be careful what you wish for. Or should I say " vote for ".
I love Cape Cod. It's the residents I have a problem with.
Maybe that can be the new slogan for your charter business.... "I love Cape Cod, it's the people I have the problem with".
Now that's a marketing campaign.
"If Ted can drive his car into the waters of someone elses back yard... Why can't Cape Wind drive the (non-polluting) turbine poles in his?"
Mary Jo would say fagedaboudit
"I've been there... it is beautiful... it is a national treasure."
As have the woodlands the timber industry continues to erode.
The air is poisoined, the water is poisoned, the food is poisoned. All in the name of corporate profit.
So, now, "our" Sound gets special treatment?
Why?
For us to have the "pristine" Sound, what else will have to go in its place?
More mountaintops?
More polluted air from an oil refinery for someone else to breathe?
Stop the onslaught? At least keep the Sound from being "industrialized"?
Then we have to give something up in return, don't you think?
The rest of the world is paying for our lifestyle, why don't we have to?
As someone said, 80% of the resources of this world are used by 20% of the people. That leaves 80% of the population fighting for the remaining 20%.
Which part of the equation do you think we are?
