Hyannis Country Garden is on the wind

Late yesterday afternoon saw the installation of the Hyannis Country Garden wind turbine blades. Photos by Jim Liedell.
First step towards energy independence will produce 92% electrical use
Hyannis Country Garden was issued a building permit on August 25 , 2008 after obtaining a bond. The permitting process is now complete, and the environmentally sensitive local company broke ground on August 28 , 2008.
Although the rotor blades were damaged in shipment, they were repaired in Barre, Vermont, and after a weather delay, were hoisted into place Thursday afternoon to a roar of approval by onlookers.
A dedication ceremony and commissioning will soon follow. The company offers regular updates on its website.
The Wind Facts
The pole height is 121.36 feet tall. The rotors will extend another 34.44 feet. The F.A.A. has given approval for the wind turbine to be 156 feet tall.
The turbine was purchased in New England and is manufactured by Northern Power located in Barre, Vermont. The award-winning turbine is a passively-cooled, permanent magnet, direct drive generator eliminating a gearbox and transmission. This creates one of the quietest turbines available with noise levels measured at 50 dB, which echo the sounds of normal conversation or soft music.
The Northwind 100 wind turbine project is just step number one in this firm's continuing effort to be energy conscious. It is estimated to produce 92% of the company's annual electrical use. Future plans include the use of bio diesel fuel and solar panels.

Info below is direct from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative's "Small Wind Progress Briefing Summary Revised: June 12, 2008"
"…Through its Small Renewables Initiative, MTC provides rebates provided directly to small wind customers who are responsible for hiring their own turnkey installation firm.”
“…Once the system is installed and operational, the small wind customers enter their system’s energy production data into an MTC database on a monthly basis. MTC has monitored the energy production reported for the first several systems, and after it became clear that that none of these systems was achieving the expected production levels, we commissioned the Cadmus Group, Inc. to perform a complete and systematic analysis of the production data and the earlier production estimates…”
"...The average production for the 19 existing small wind turbines highlighted in the progress briefing is less than one-third of the average production projected..."
MTC has paid for a large chunk of the cost of this project?...
Who'd a figured?
Time will tell Neil, time will tell.
P.s. Ask Christy how his are doing...
Speaking of "most likely (be) a disappointment..."
...Opps - That was Mighty Mouse.
When you take into account the transmission losses involved in getting the electricity from the toxic plant at the canal, alone, decentralized power production such as the wind generator at CG is far superior.
Naysayers who quote research from one source and use it to impune all windpower are just another devious part of the problem. Neil Good might as well just heat his house by burning plastic barbie dolls in his coal stove.
That too is more efficient than windpower.......
And they spout the LIE about the cost of the electricity will be much more expensive...
6miles from the coast...
Will have detrimental impacts on the enviornment etc.
And yet...
The project they whole-heartedly endorse...
25 miles from shore...
On ~~Floating~~ platforms with cables hanging down to the sea bed (think whale playground?)...
With a ~~FLOATING~~ ESP (transformer platform - Also with 10,000 gallons of OIL)...
Are we supposed to believe that THEIR project is going to cost less & be safer???
Is THAT what they want us to swallow along with the rest of their chum?
P.s. No welfare: State & Federal mandated tax credits etc authorized & legislated. For very good & sound reasoning...
And...
Not outta yur pocket fella.
P.s. Oldest daughter is dating a Greek fella... Seems pretty nice etc but a bit er... Controlling - Any advice my antiwind/darkside friend?
"She's up in bed with Laryngitis," said the man.
"Oh... that Greek bastard's in town again?"
Greeks can be controlling, but so can men and women of every culture and ethnicity. It's learned behaviors and a way of life. If she treasures her independence as a modern day woman, tell her to make sure he's the right one. She should stress what she wants out of the relationship and what she wants for herself. Days of being barefoot, pregnant and chained to the kitchen stove are over. Our girls want more out of life, good for them. I teach my daughter to work hard, get educated, but have fun, and figure out who brings out the best in you. Also, make sure they are good in the sack, because if you can't have that, everything else goes downhill fast. Most parents won't speak openly with adult children, but I think it's important. My two love me for it.
Question: if your business was offered a federal incentive to convert to, say, a hydrogen filling station because hydrogen powered vehicles were becoming available and efficient, would you not take advantage of that offer?
I'm sure that you will, for your point of argument, claim that you would not take advantage of that "welfare".
If that is so, that just makes you either an overpaid fool or a liar....
Just keep that childish banter going. Just more garbage from the oil sector........
BTW, who sold you those cute little rooftop turbines? Did they do a site analysis first or are you just throwing petty cash around to make some abstract point about the futility of wind energy? Were they also selling aluminum siding?
Well... Freeks me.
Especially when it comes to...
Christy.
;~)
Wrong er um who dun it?
Don'tchaknow?... Greek women um well...
Every American guy would love one.
They know who's...
'IN' Charge.
Bad dog!
American guys may like them, but having another "mommy" doesn't make a compatible peer. And if I guy can take care of business where it counts with confidence, most women can put up with minor flaws. It doesn't matter how much they make, or how nice they are, or good looks. Intimacy counts more and what keeps couples bonded. I know a Greek from the Cape, just a friend. You're right, but it really depends on what they give to the relationship and what people are willing to tolerate. Sometimes the right chemistry is all that is required. The rest works itself out.
:~)... That wus a good un eh?
In.
He is with the 83%+ that support CAPE WIND too?
No wonder I kinda like the guy!
Seeing you are up on statistics you probably realize by now, that poll after recent poll show overwhelming support...
P.s. Yup, I know a lot about marriages failed & otherwise...
As well, you know about failure. Let's hope you learned something as well.
Could be their devout religions that keep them from divorce court. Do a survey on happiness, see what you get. Don't think you're being fair to smahpeck. As a woman with parents born in Italy, I can confirm control and inequalities issues were main reasons for my own divorce. Everyone knows both cultures are similar. I tend to think Greek men are more obnoxious than the Gino's of little Italy America. I love my friend the Greek, but sometimes I want to slap him. Even his own sexist remarks can't hide for too long. And parents encouraging children to marry within their own culture is not always wise, either. Compatibility is what counts. Peck has good reason to voice concern. After marriage and babies come it's too late to change what has been taught. Just make sure the mother in law is not a steamroller.
Mr. Mihos, I'm glad to hear that they have paid for themselves already, but I doubt that it all has come from direct energy savings to date, but a part of that pay-off is in tax benefits that accrue to the corporation.
I apologize, I miss read your statement Mr. Mihos, thought you had said that they ('the turbines' have already paid for themselves. But what you did say was that you (I presume as the majority shareholder of C of CC LLC. the corporation paid for them and not yourself personally.)
Ant to think...
After all I have ragged on you... You offer an olive branch seeing I have been kicked hard by our local Greek minimart tycoon / antichrist of nearshore wind.
Admitidly, I wus a wee bit er ~over the top~ busting up the local Greekmeister.
(Choke) I am sorry if I offended excessivly. (Damn that monpo... She gets away with it all the time :~()
As it is... Controlling is my main concern with this fella. Well mannered, very attentive, educated, ambitious and yeah, a bit full of himself but I think that comes with the jeans(sic).
cw... Shush! That is corporatly / privately held information & Christy has no - repeat: no obligation to reveal to the curiously inclined.
Thanks.
Will try to take your refresher course to heart.
P.s. Can I still beat up on the local antiwindcristy?
Think you insulted Christy and the proud Greek males whom they all worship and adore. Italian men expect similar tiresome displays of daily attention. Not his fault. He's part of that generation. He never does respond. And to think we once had a friendly exchange of words on the Howie Carr show when he ran for governor. Must fear my strong Italian woman rants, or Walter's warnings. LoL
Still don't buy the wind's power will blow us into economic salvation. You should follow MIT studies. Some of the best and brightest would know where is best location and weigh costs vs. production. Amazing what determines these decisions. Read between the lines. It's not what is good for the people, but for the investors and benefactors (politicians).
Where's buzz?
Did he fall into his A1 bottle?
LOL
He's a big dog & can dish it out too.
You may note he advertises with the boss/woman/man so understandably, he is a flavored blogger & warned as such to watch my occassional rabid mouth...
In the penalty box @ home & online... Jeez!
Pats taking the wind out of my sails right now but will tangle w/you later on the good/bad/ugly of wind / Fossil fuels.
Buzz?... Don't know. Not too much fun of late.
As long as he didn't slip & fall -on- the bottle would guess he either taking hits off the O2 bottle or his usual fav brand of liquid refresh during the game.
Then again, maybe he's Greek too & his feelings are hurt...
Buzz?
With Brady out of commission, I'd say the Pats got one steep climb.
I feel like a gal who just one a game of poker, beat'm at his own game.
I called buzz out on his bluff of having filet of the finest kind! He's backed down, true intentions only in a blogpost, but not for real! Shame on you buzz. Are you too cowardly to face the courageous cru? LoL...
Doubtful. He lives to troll. I tell you, that A1 must have him trapped. I can see him now swimming in the dark tomato sludge. Either that or the fox hunter has got'm by the nape of his scrawny neck....that little rodent....lol
Been knocked down to the canvas from all corners... Ouch!!! ;~(
You two go tear Buzz a new one!
But, like Kenny Rogers says: "You gotta know when to hold em"... Too.
Alright, I'm dun; before I get smacked down again.
Buzz... Time to rumble!!!
