(Or could this be just another sly attempt to put further restrictions on town meeting commenters? - Or is Joakim really worried?)

Did anyone do any thorough reporting of what was said about Sommers, the expert?

Is Elisabeth White reporting on this story anymore? I found her stories to be the most unbiased & informative reporting.

I wondered why Gomes's aunt didn't come forward sooner. But it must have been a difficult decision one that has upset the Gomes Family. Instead of getting solved, this case seems to get more and more complicated with many issues that remain unresolved.

That's the point! They lied when they said they had no problem with race. Because three of them were out-right racists, as sure as cranberries are red. So, either they were lying to the judge, or to themselves. Either way, Christopher McCowen is payng the price for those lies.
And how is it that then a man is completely honest, and says "yes judge, I am predjudiced", and gets in trouble for it? He's a much better person for telling the truth.
But like crusader said, there was money and fame in this trial...another "OJ" one of them said. Cha-ching cha-ching one of them said.

I am also a little baffled at the new found racist aspects because I was under the assumption that the choice of who presides on a jury is decided by both the defense and prosecution sides. Considering that it was a black man accused of raping and murdering a white woman- wouldn't questions of racial bias have been presented to each and every possible juror during the juror selection/elimination process? maybe I am missing something? You'd of thought that it would have been the defense's first obligation to find a jury full of reasonable people who do not possess one iota of bigotry?

Do I need to tell you how angry I am?
Do I need to ask any of you who were at that hearing, and watching this man say under oath that he never said anything bad about black people?

Last I heard, there were 400 full-time dispatchers, 1200 officers, a swat team, 10 administrators & several fill ins...not to mention another fleet of SUV cruisers, an army tank and a battleship docked at Pamet Harbor. And the best part, the taxpayers of Truro have decided to pass the heavy cost burdens over to a Mayflower brigadier general philanthropist who was more than willing to oblige.

If those numbers are correct, that is unbelievable. Are these year round positions? I dunno, doesnt sound right to me. Things that make ya go hmmm.

Truro has the highest per capita number of police in the state - 15 for 1,500+ residents - that's one for each 100 taxpayers.
What per cent of the town budget is that? And shouldn't Truro expect competence for that cost?
The town must be a veritable crime capital to warrant that concentration of fuzz.

I was told by a Truro cop that another policemen investigating the murder scene used the toilet in Christa's house which destroyed any evidence which may have still bee in the catch basin.

Isn't it obvious by now that McCowen is a simple, black man who was framed for this murder by others... probably with help from "officials"?

I disagree - if the trial is about a black man and there is only one black juror - and the rest of the jury singles out that juror for ridicule = that not only shows racism, but intimidation, which can't be good for deliberations.

I Think people have to remember even withih their own race there is prejudice. A cape Verdean person doesnt consider themselves fully Black. Jamaicans usually dont like American Black people. Take a BlackNigerian Englishman and He cant relate to the Karma of being an American (African ) Black. If a juror used a racist remark against another juror, that is quite different than using a racist remark against the defendant.
No one is deciding the fate of the jury. They can hate each ther all they want. What matters is that they be fair and impartial towards the person who's life is in their hands!
This looks like an attempt to lessen the rotten implications of the racism of that jury.

First of all, I'd find the babysitter and make sure that quote is accurate. I've always had my doubts about that.

Having raised a 2 yr. old, it is not necessarily true that they wake up easily. sometimes they do and then sometimes they sleep through anything.

It is also my opinion that Ava might have been watching TV when this happened - most of it happened outside and what happened inside was so fast that Ava did not see. The time-of-death estimate puts this murder during the daytime. Probably in the morning (saturday).

The venue for this trial should have been off-Cape. Cape Cod was not prepared to deal with a case of this magnitude. A new trial may produce the evidence needed about Frazier.

So how do you know that Chief Nightingale didn't make those statements anyway. Maybe he felt more comfortable making the comments since he was NO LONGER the chief, but heard the word through the other officers he remained in touch with or maybe just someone who wanted to use the name, for whatever the reason.

two posters on crimenews mentioned "nightingale" possibly being a cop. someone said there was a chief who went by this name. the posts by this handle got deleted. a local said, "wait & see, because of the murder, many LE and chiefs will be leaving the Cape". It happened, not all at once...but months apart. I'd like to know the turnover from the years of 02'-05' in LE. You will now say this is just a coincidence, along with the rest--first judge off the case due to the golf cart accident, broke his leg..first ME suddenly comes down with "undetermined illness", but strangely enough, he resurfaced in FL of all PLACES!! and is back in practice...is WEINER a common name on CC?
