Sounds like a great place. I remember your glowing report from last year, too.

Pip is the most gregarious and delightful child I've met in years. I guess her family gave her that nickname because she really was one, a "pip".
She ended up naming me "Pop.

I'm Pip's mom, and my family and I were fortunate to vacation at Linekin Bay "Camp," as we call it, in August, where we met Mr. Brooks.
My husband tells everyone this was the best vacation we have ever had. The food was amazing (no cooking or cleaning!) and the atmosphere as laid-back as it gets.
I'd like to add that for families like ours, with three children under age 8, the vacation is made even more blissful by the existence of the kids' club, where kids can play and be supervised while their parents go sailing, kayaking, or into town. Our kids loved "Brona," the lovely Irish gal who organized treasure hunts & tidalpool digs for them.
A kid-friendly movie is offered each evening, complete with popcorn, and parents can sit in the adjacent lounge and enjoy connecting with other grown-ups or with each other.
And moms, the cabins are cleaned, the beds made, every day! Our trip delivered the perfect blend of family time and couple time for less money than we would've spent staying home and hiring sitters so we could go on a date. I can't say enough wonderful things about Linekin Bay Resort.

Walter - you are amazing. Will you take *my* kids up to the top of the Empire State Building?! I'm sending this to all my New Yorkaphile friends. I love the pics. You inspire courage.

Yes, I agree Libby, and it was a nice vicarious escape for me.
I must add that Walter looks pretty good for his hundred odd years. I guess that makes him a centurian?

203 countries and counting -
A check at Wikipedia for sovereign states reveals a list of sovereign states, containing 203 entries, giving an overview of states around the world with information on the status and recognition of their sovereignty. It is arranged alphabetically. It includes both states widely recognized to be de jure sovereign and states that claim de jure sovereignty and exercise de facto control over some territory, but which are not generally recognised.

What a great piece. Gay Talese wrote something similar for the NY Times recently and I much preferred this one with the pix. The grand kids will never forget this trip with Walter and Pat. By the way, Pat looks great and the kids are adorable!

Thanks for sharing that.
Someday I'll get the dough to travel- not yet, though- still stuck on the peninsula, never having visited NYC or even leaving the NE for that matter.
My son went to NYC last Month as part of his 8th grade field trip.
Taking the train sounds brilliant and pretty darn affordable.

Sounds like a great trip. Amtrak from Providence is definitely the way to get there, too.

If I were one of the authors I would keep going. There are only 192 countries in the United Nations, and statistics show there are 195 countries in the world. Seems to me you have 15 to go! I'm sure the remaining are worthy of camping trips.

180 countries and not counting! Not about travel, this is about bragging rights! My grandchildren enjoy my company, some must feel the need to show what they can do to impress theirs or to prove something to others.

Aw, shucks, Walter.
Can't wait to try Deon's new gourmet eats.
I went to Zapotec in May. While the Margaritas really were the best I've ever had, the food was bland and boring. I believe they had just undergone the owner change-over... maybe it's improved?

The best thing we ever got out of Pomodoro was a blog by its hostess in 2006 when Katie Dickson was a soph. at BU,
She turned out to be a superb columnist, see

and our waiter this year claims he will follow in her footsteps.
