Minutia, this idea sounds like it could be an interesting, fun project. There are a number of things that would need to come together for it to work but first and foremost it would involve clearing the licenses all of the jingles involved. Feel free to contact me to discuss this in further detail at capecodjinglesdotcom.

Once in an astronomy class, our professor said astrology was a bunch of bunk. Not so, but I discovered a site that said the Greeks "took out"(history re-write) one of the constellations when Apollo took over for the oracle.(God over Goddess)Anyway, here's the correct set-up according to this web-site:
Pisces: 12 March--18 April
Aries: 19 April--13 May
Taurus: 14 May--19 June
Gemini: 20 June--20 July
Cancer: 21 July--9 August
Leo: 10 August--15 September
Virgo: 16 September--30 October
Libra: 31 October--22 November
Ophiuchus(snake goddess/the healer): 30 November--17 December
Sagittarius: 18 December--18 January
Capricorn: 19 January--15 February
Aquarius: 16 February--11 March
If this is true, then I've been in the wrong sign all this time!!
And now I have to change my lucky planet!!!!

"Unique" is right. But they won't let you film it. Many have tried, but it's a secret, "special" organization. And you gotta see it to believe it.

Haha, St. Minutia, aimed at you, or me? Having the worst public speaking skills, possibly in history, although quite good at chitchat while passing the champagne to my happy houseguests, I am doomed in court, unless I tell the judge a lot of jokes, which they seem to like, very much.

Hello from kansas!:-)
Glad to see someone else is aware of the magical realism aspect of life and the universe!I'm very familiar with my own alternate universe. I really do attempt to maintain awareness of who and what is around me. But it does often feel I'm out-of-sync and aware of too many and the wrong details - I overfocus/miss social cues, then have to uncomfortably back-track (often have to let it go/continue with the sometimes absurd flow of my life...)
Doesn't help that I am perenially manic/very verbal/have way too many thoughts, analyses, perceptions, etc. zipping around in my mind and often overflowing...
I found your blog by complete serendipity 'cause I wanted to post to minutia about the Brian Collier Classification System of Very Small Objects/collection of same. Our library currently has a project where anyone can collect/classify VSOs for a local collection. VSOs can be viewed on the Topeka Shawnee CountyPublic Lirary's Flicker site and the VSO MySpace page.

You were born blonde?? I bet I knew that but just don't remember.

I recently worked on a new client who was from your brother's class and remembered your sister and some of our neighbors. Weird stuff. Especially since I retain my babyface, and am generally assessed to be in my late 20's/early 30's (I am so not complaining!)

Somehow your crossing the 40 year line strikes a stronger chord than my husband (who crossed in January.) I suggest you rewind to 39 and hang in with me until we get the chance to see each other and approve the jump to the next decade!

Maybe someone can remember these. I'm sure they we're jingle's but it's just not coming to me.

The Golden Anchor (Dennisport)
The Pancake Man

Oh, here's one..... "Sail away from Falmouth, sail away on the Island Queen"

Speaking of Ad's, if I here Rich Covington of Ford of Hyannis say..."hey Rich, you must have a factory connection" one more time..... I'll kill myself.

Of course he has a factory connection, he sells the damn cars, so dosen't every other Ford dealer.

Since going satellite two years ago, I mildly miss the cheesier Cape radio commercials, which are so bad they're good.

It's funny in the winter because they get twice as long for their money, so they pad the ads with unnecessary details--"Our delicious menu has appetizers, a wine list, and a full array of delectable desserts."

Haven't heard the Beehive ad.

Minutia, lighten up on yourself. You're not crazy, just one of millions of women with a to-do list 5 miles long and a constant chatter in your head about what needs to be done in the next 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 weeks, and 5 years.

1. Sorry I'm unable to give the rules to the game as the copyrighting process is now "in media res"
2. No I'm not British, native New Englander through and through. Mum just happens to be the one nickname that most closely resembles Ma or Mom that I answer to. My fam has a fascination with nicknames (see old dog blog about my cunning canine). If I were to try to spell some of the names you might think me Tibetan or Hindu or some yet to be discovered ethnic group.
As for #3, no comment.

1. Can you please get the rules of this game from your kids so that I can institute this during car trips?

2. Why do your kids call you Mum, are you British or something? Or is it just a New England thing?

3. CB stands for Citizens Band and I wonder how widely they are used now. I barely rememebr them. My guess is that they became less popular with the citizens as their use by prostitutes soliciting johns, or by drug dealers, increased.

To Make Shell: Combine the flour, 6 tablespoons white sugar, baking powder, salt and lemon zest. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk and the 1 whole egg. Work dough until it forms a ball. Do not knead or over work the dough. Generously flour a work surface and roll dough out to fit into a 9 inch pie plate. Place dough in a greased pie plate. Poke holes in the center with the tines of a fork. Do not prebake.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Beat ricotta, yolks, and sugar until lemon colored. Add lemon juice, zest, and vanilla.
Beat whites until stiff, fold into lemon mixture. Pour mixture into the prepared shell. Do not over fill the shell, it rises slightly when baking.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 45 to 50 minutes. Let pie cool then refrigerate to set, the pie will become creamy and dense. Serve cold.

I recall an episode of the Sopranos in which Carmela brings a ricotta cake (not pie) to her neighbor, a lawyer/Georgetown alum whom she wants to write a recommendation for her daughter Meadow, who is applying to Georgetown.

Carmela's cake was I'm sure delicious, but what really motivated the lawyer to write the recommendation was Carmela's sweetly veiled threat for Tony to do something or other to this lawyer.

In response to: Apprehensively Aging
You know what they say about aging: it beats the alternative.

Anna Nicole Smith would love to be celebrating her 40th birthday, as would Bob Marley, Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, many hundreds who died in the Twin Towers...

Thousands of people who have made it to 40 in Darfur are hoping to make it to their 41st. Millions more who are HIV positive in South Africa are hoping to make it to age 23.

The fact that you are alive and well in the USA at any age is more than enough reason to be grateful and happy.

For women, the only people who have to worry about aging having a serious impact on their lives are models and actresses. I'm neither: are you?

If you're married, and worried that your husband will leave you for a younger woman, take consolation in this fact: he would have done it already, because you haven't been a babe for about 5 years now, honey. None of us are after age 35 or so.

You have wisdom now that only living 40 years will get you. Enjoy.

About This Blog

minutia3Fascination of the small things in life compels me and propels me. Being an American I guess I'm in contradiction for much of what the U.S. stands for, you know, the biggest and best and most of everything. Maybe it's because I am short. Anyway, the old adages/clichés: great things come in small packages, less is more, it's the little things that count, the simple life is the best life, etc., all ring true for me. It is my sincere hope that others begin to hear those same tiny bells. This is the official start of the minutia movement that hopefully others will embrace
