If you were all the journalist you think you are, Petey, you would have read the deed (public information) and seen the restrictions placed on the property by the seller. We can't build any more buildings nor even cut down trees. Get your story straight.

This blog seems to hate the Wampanoag a bit.
If you want credibility you should know the facts. He did not die from "complications during heart surgery." He had surgery related to his back.
Why the second paragraph? With a little effort you could have found his obituary online. I found it and I'm not even a TV personality.

Funny thing, the last time I saw Maurice we had coffee together and talked for an hour. One thing that particularly bothered him was the loss of mature tribe members before their time.
All I did was report his death and repeat some facts that might help place him in people's minds.

Peter, the current Wamp Tribal Council is in a deep FOG, they are in complete denial about GM's rape conviction and the embellishment of his military record. Why, because they are all on payroll and getting paid well. Not only is Andrews milking six figures doing stuff, but her family is on payroll too. I'm sure you know that GM got paid up front which is why he can maintain his new living standards because before he was struggling to pay his mortgage. What are these people going to do when the next election comes around, go back to the Aquinnah tribe perhaps?

The CCT criminal reports are evident, each and every day. Another criminal sting: worked last year, and is working this year; in-out, in-out of prison and jail. Who has been, and is, paying for all this, and for how long? (Tax time.)Their drug addictions, and who-knows-what-else their criminal records; their fault, nobody else's. It's time. No more paying the tab. Deval's new lobbyists, with their new special interests; and/or the new mafia. Ancestry with the BIA--and the BIA's written acknowledgment of the BIA FD's scepticism of the Mashpees 1970s purported genealogy--easy to prove, that 1/20th of a percent, if you're 1500s. All criminal records of the Mashpee--and most importantly, VA records--what is the bill for Marshall's fraud--who, who, who testifies to Congress, five purple hearts?--is it the heroin? All of their records, like the rest of us; nothing hidden. This is not Judge Judy or Judge Joe Brown (many of them are); this is, and has been, criminal activity. Preferable to pay the prison bill, than bingo/racino. Jamestown wasn't friendly.

From today's CC Times
" The coordinator of the Indian education program is out, and according to his rap sheet, he should never have been hired by the Mashpee schools in the first place. Robert Hendricks officially ended his employment with the school department Feb. 29, according to Supt. Ann Bradshaw.
In 1995, Hendricks was convicted of distributing marijuana, and sentenced to five years' probation."
And the "hits" just keep on coming.

My children will know exactly what sovereign means, and they will have little interest in bingo slot checks. Although they will have to pay for the in-out, in-out prison tab. And if they get those checks in prison, it will be written, with all the details, on tax returns. Best to leave it to the Supreme Court. If Marshall is getting VA benefits, that is a problem.

It would be cool if the local tribes around the casino areas became powerful organized crime factions, a la Mafia or Medellin Cartel. Tomahawks would come back into fashion as a murder weapon.

In response to: It helps with those mortgages -- but it stinks of conflict
Conflict, YES of course. The governor's wife is a partner in a law firm that is involved in gaming and the only firm that is a member of the American Gaming Assoc. (must be a reason other law firms are not members). The solution is for her to keep her high paying job and let him resign as governor. His record speaks for itself, he got fired from Coke and Ameriquest just settled a huge class action suit for predatory lending practices to poor people. He was a fake Civil Rights Attorney, no commitment there. The Mashpee tribe should have the right to sue the state for infringing upon their rights and impeding their progress as a federally recognized tribe. Patrick is a descendent of slaves who is mad at the natives because he didn't get his forty acres and a mule. Patrick is typical of an "elitist" black just like Clarence Thomas who looks down on the poor. They are both morally weak. Leave Obama out of this, please.

obama, oprah, and deval: equivalent of nagin. analogies.
thank god, in mass, deval has competent staff. because he is useless.
bill stands up for hillary; because she stood by him; was smarter than him. put up with his cocaine habit (check with the arkansas staties), and his 'cigar' habit.
now, he finds ties to bind with bush i, instead of the cigars. for good.
this election sucks.
an 'unreasonable man' seems reasonable. maybe hillary and bill.
bush i and ii had their chance, maybe hill, with bill. anything except no-experience holy-rollers.

(1) deval's tax returns should be public. to not do so should not be an option. (2) diane should not have to leave her job. she has nothing to do with his imbecility, except that she married him and is sticking with it, and is probably furious with him (that's why the two homes; she wants nothing to do with him.) (3) he got fired from coca-cola, that's why he's trying politics.

The chief is geared towards the spirituality, culture and history of the tribe. That doesn't make his opinions always the right ones. Also if you feel that the Binghams have a right to the land suit you are a fool. Yes it would be nice to take back all ancestral land but at the expense of ruining families in Mashpee?? I don't think so!! Maybe you need to take off your blinders and see who the "greedy ones" really are...

Ok Wolverine if you are sooo all knowing on the corruption of the tribal council then I say the same to you as I did Peter...PROVE IT! Glenn ok I will give you that he brought alot of shame to the membership and I was disgusted with his lies about his background and the rape conviction is something he should have made known as the truth always comes out. But Shawn, David and Desiree and others? Who are your claimed others and just what did they do to the tribe to have "irreversible consequences"? As for the investors business is business and yes the deal with the mohegans in particular might not have been the best but I know alot of Mohegan members personally and they still enjoy their fianancial gains from casino profits believe me. The Mohegan Tribe is fianancially secure when alot of them grew up in middle or lower class families, I grew up in Montville so I know. I don't feel that the investors are pulling the strings as people like to say. Also they did not disrespect Vernon Lopez, he might have called for something but that is why we have the council.

proudtobewamp23: Giving away the rights that the tribe was afforded via federal recognition is just insane and not in the best interest of the entire tribe. Disrespecting the chief and following every command that the investors (outsiders) are giving is not in the best interest of the entire tribe. Wake up!!! In years to come the investors will be gone and will be sitting on a nest egg that was given to them by corrupt tribal officers, damage that is irreversible. Read about all the facts that have shown how much the investors have already taken from the Mohegans, have gone against the Narragansetts and eventually have raped from the Wampanoags just like Glenn and gang.

proudtobewamp23: You really need to take off those blinders. How much proof does one need to not see the damage that someone like Gayle, in such a short time, has done to this wonderful tribe. This article is not about the Bingham’s plight or their rightful opinion towards the “land suit”. I may not agree with their pursuit of the land claim, but they have every right and justification to do what they believe is in the best interest of the entire tribe.
Yes, yes, I know, if your in support of Glenn, Shawn, David, Desiree and others then every comment / article about anyone associated with them is just hearse, is because of the Bingham’s plight, or just doesn’t matter because its from an outsider. When will you and others realize that the damage that Glenn, Shawn, David, Desiree and others have and continue to do to the tribe has irreversible consequences?

He was attempting to visit Marshall in jail. Little did he know, the VA hospital has better 'beauty bars,' which Marshall says is easier on his skin: The man accused of ramming through the Massachusetts Military Reservation and causing a six-vehicle crash that killed two people was arraigned in Barnstable Superior Court yesterday after a grand jury indicted him. Michael Catarius, 24, of Mashpee had been summonsed to court and did not have to appear yesterday. His defense attorney, Richard Barry, entered pleas of not guilty for Catarius on numerous charges, including manslaughter by motor vehicle, motor vehicle homicide, drunken driving, and driving with a suspended license. In the July 2007 crash, Catarius' passenger, Michael Warren, 26, of Falmouth was killed.
Catarius allegedly crashed through a locked security gate on the military base, sped down Sandwich Road and rammed into other vehicles on Route 151, according to police. At the Route 151 crash scene, a Providence man, Edward Kipp, was also killed as he sat in his car at the intersection. Catarius' next court date is in March.
