I like doing these walk/run events, with an eye towards being the last walker to finish. I "won" a Duxbury walkathon in this manner once, by spending 5 hours mid-race at the Windsor House Inn, which has a fine tavern.

I'd do that, but it would turn into the 5K plus an additional 12K of me chasing the kids around.

Granted, they'd be over more quickly and would hold more elite members.... butI stillprefer sprints to distance runs.
Nothing wrong with a good 10K, mind you.... just one girl's preference.

Darn, I was planning to write an ode to the half-dozen or so road race mugs I still have from the '80s-'90s, which my husband keeps threatening to dump.
Falmouth in the Fall is much better, anyway.

The ONLY accuse for acting this crazy is if someone is holding a gun to your head. Even then, I think I'd try for the gun.

A good time was had by all, even though it was freeze-yer-gizzard cold out there. Thanks to all who helped. And I finally beat the two senior ladies who usually leave me in the dust. Dang, this geezer division is brutal!

Never ran that one, Ted. Ran another in Duxbury back in the early 90s, a 10K on the streets as I recall. Wouldn't be surprised if Salazar and Rodgers ran the Gurnet race, they both trained in the Boston area those days.

Probably would have been a more earnest comment had I logged on under my girl-who-actually-played-soccer user name... but you know what I mean.

It's always ironic when death reaches out for someone so obviously healthy. It's prettymuch why I decided to just drink wine and stuff.
I've never been much of a runner, unless I was chasing a soccer ball. I'm pretty quick, but I doubt that I could play a full high school-level soccer game any more.
Did you ever do a Gurnet Classic Beach Run, Jack? They used to do those off Duxbury Beach when I was a kid-kid. They say Rogers and Salazar were going step for step one year, probably late 70s or so.

Larry Olsen is god! I don't know what the old goat ran this year, but I'd bet his pace put young bucks half his age to shame. This race holds many fond memories for me, some of which involve being paced in the last few miles by Larry (at a decidely dragging pace on my behalf, when all I wanted to do was close my eyes and go to sleep on my feet) Long may you run!
