"Leprosarium" is a great word. I think that's what I'll call my house from now on.

I had a ton of rosa ragusa in Duxbury, and made awful jelly every year that people happily accepted and then probably never ate more than a bite of. My mother used to make brandy from them, and it, too, was awful.

They were orginally going to callit Mocha Dick for a famous whale who lived off the isle of Mocha, but Mocha Dick's lawyers got involved, and in the end it was just cheaper to use a likeness.

For the record: Peter Hesselbach (of Leipzig) flights at Highland Light were made in 1928, as stated in the article's caption, and the 58 minute flight was followed by a four hour flight three days later. These were demonstration flights to introduce advanced German and European glider and soaring craft, and a new Cape Cod glider training school, to Americans

White Americans intermarry as well... my husband is Irish, I'm French... and the history teacher in me can list dozens of traditions that white folk have failed to maintain since 1685 (if you celebrate Christmas with anything more than a Mass, for instance). If they played this fairly, SEMASS would be split between some Wampos and a few dozen English families.

"Monponsett" is a Wampanoag term, loosely translating to "island between the waters." I could be wrong on that, but not by much.

In response to: 1938: The 'wind that shook the world' kills 700
You can tell right away who the misinformed are when it comes to a Wind Farm in Nantucket Sound.
Wind mill towers punched down into the glacial till of Nantucket Sound wouldn't stand a chance of surviving hurricane winds. Look up the destruction Katrina caused in the Gulf of Mexico. Over 100 oil drill platforms blown over. These towers reportedly designed for such winds.
Cape Wind might be comming but it will be going in the first hurricane, mark my words.
