Hyannis will soon be renamed Sao Paulo.

We'll still have the homeless as street urchins..
the likes of maverick and us will be gone and forgotten..
and the only boats will be turbine excursions..
as Peta and the likes rule the world..
fish will be on display as a barbaric memory of a once carnivorous culture..

If you're fond of Wendy's and Taco Bell
Quaint little villages with a french fry smell
You're sure to fall in love with new Cape Cod
If you like the taste of a lobster stew
thank the Brazillian with the Fu Manchu

You're sure to fall in love with new Cape Cod
Detoured roads that seem to heckle you
Miles of traffic all ahead of you
Church bells silent' on a Sunday morn
Remind you of the town where Jeffery Windle was born
If you spend an evening you'll have to pay
Watching as your bank account slips away

The new Parker's Liquors sign on Iyannough Road sucks compared to the old Parker's Liquors sign. I've always wondered if that business is named after Unitarian-Universalist icon Theodore Parker.

Wow, I just found this blog and was so happy to share my delight when my Mother-in-Law, a life-long resident of Sandwich, MA recenty handed me 18 of Joseph Lincoln's books! I have read 6 of them so far and I am addicted! Right now I am halfway through "Mary 'Gusta".

Well, Cru, you got me. I am not the sole breadwinner. My husband draws a paycheck, too. So I guess that makes him a sugar daddy, who "pays the bills" in your book. I have news for you, without both our paychecks, there would be no bills to pay, since we wouldn't have a house.
I suppose the Cape would have a lot more jobs like yours, working at a university in Cambridge, if a world-class university with an endowment of 26 billion dollars decided to open right here on the Cape, in say, Eastham, which has been a magnet for intellectuals for decades.
I have worked in academia. The pay is okay, the bennies are great, and the stress is minimal. No layoffs. No downsizing. No outsourcing. Not the real world.
Comparing the availability of jobs on the Cape with Boston is like comparing the Chinese food in Chinatown, Manhattan, with the Chinese food in Fargo, North Dakota.
We who live on the Cape didn't move here for the jobs. We moved here for the natural beauty and way of life. Those of us that can survive here tend to be scrappy, interesting people.

hamalcar,
I'd rather not say. I'm still trying to retain my anonymity, as hard as it is since I don't like to hide behind my computer. I am in your face kinda' gal, don't have anything to hide. Too bad, the others who are so brave behind their keyboards can't say the same.
I'm also convinced if there is a way to hurt me, they will find a way to do it. People have already tried to hurt me for speaking out about Christa's case and my guard is up. I'm in Cambridge, that's all I will say. If you are a friend and not a foe, one of my blogging buddies can tell you. But I have a deep distrust now by what has been done to me by some people on the island. So I hope you will understand. My anger is valid. I want my voice heard so others will beware of traps and imposters. For such a "beautiful" place, it's hard to believe. Always so easy to think places like Somerville and Boston breed sociopaths, liars and scumbags, but you've got your own garden variety there, too. They are just harder to spot.

Ned,
You know my story better than anyone. You are still my friend, will always be dear to my heart. I'm betting that you are among the few left who once made the Cape special. Now it's over run by greed, self absorbed a-holes--you are right on! capecodgardener--you are right, I am angry at myself...for moving to the Cape, pretending it was a place that welcomes everyone, provides sustainable jobs, easy to make friends. I found nothing but miserable greed seekers, egomaniacs, drunks, weak men who prey on office assistants, then label them sluts for not giving it up or for giving in, but tossing them to the sand dune when they get bored because they have 5 other concubines waiting in line. I watched this play out with an old boss & young secretary. Not did I realize why the hostility until she quit & a coworker told me what happened. And that writer thinking he was only with her...LOL....little did she know, after bragging on her 350k advancement did he want her....afterwards she was tossed out like yesterday's trash....partner's wife said he slept with client's wives..

Cape Cod is not the only place in the world with nice beaches. In fact many people are saying you have huge environmental issues: Maybe those unsuspecting home buyers don't know about those polluted wells, plumnes off Otis, you know, those high cancer rates, people dieing of brain cancer? Oil tankers dumping off the coast, high levels of phosphates from those golf courses and trophy homes. Air pollution from that westward wind from Ohio, mold, the list is endless, but keep those glossy mag's in distribution. I'm sure you will fool more rich idiots who won't know any better.
Don't forget the dump and all the seepage.
Yeah, it's so clean and pure....LOL.

that's right, capemom, keep counting your dollars...as the businesses will soon dry up due to lack of housing, tourists going elsewhere since rentals are in foreclosure status, advertising will be pulled for lack of consumer buying...you go girl....I just wish you would tell the readers how you draw your paycheck and stop trying to profess you are the sole breadwinner when everyone knows you are far from it...
At least in SOMERVILLE, we have REAL PEOPLE with REAL JOBS and REAL lives...go live in your Peter Pan dreamworld and when the recession finally tanks, I will still have a job at the best university in the WORLD that rakes in more than you and your island could ever dream of collecting.
Life on the island is just an illusion for those who wish to remain in dream state. Not until they lose their job, have to fork out 500k for a swindling septic installer, payoff the crooked lawyer for undisclosed zoning issues, black mold, or any other underhanded trick, will they realize, it's just not worth living on the island of modern day pirates. There are many who have come and gone.

Crusader is right, there aren't as many jobs as the city. That's why nearly everyone I know here either works off-Cape, works here in the medical profession (including several I know who left other jobs and got trained in the med. profession), real estate, or owns their own business or is self-employed.
Cru's favorite thing is to accuse me of having a sugar daddy when the fact is I own my own business in a competitive industry in which we have to hustle for every dollar that comes in the door
The minute I or my staff gets lazy, we lose business and our Cape Cod jobs that we created for ourselves go bye-bye.
I'm a typical sleep-deprived working mom with a messy house, but at least it's in a beautiful place like Cape Cod.
Cru ("The world owes me a living")'s idea of a job is something that has massive bennies and vacations in an industry which doesn't have to show a profit (government or universities.)
Aaah, Slummerville in the summertime--cool & breezy, clean & tidy.

Cape Cod's Monkey Business(as usual)..
I have lived and worked in 3 major cities where, there was so much corruption around ,that your hair would stand on end just thinking about it!
One spends so much time bemoaning the state of affairs, then addressing them, and nothing gets accomplished..even here in Mashpee. The shenanigans continue and ,despite our comparative small problems, it's business as usual!
Town meetings are afforded to those few who don't work or ,can afford the time to go(work prevails). They pass all these initiatives for new temples of civil service, public land, at the cost of millions while schools overspend, then cry afoul and demand overides or cut necessary services,or charge for them,at our expense! It never ends...
I've finally thrown in the towel...
The monkeys have taken over the zoo.
And it ain't peanuts that these monkeys receive in stipends either..
Going to enjoy the few hours a day I have, after working to support the zoo and its keepers, enjoying my life.
.here on Cape(amidst the few peanut shells I have left)

capecodgardener there's a whole bunch o' angry a-holes in here beside crusader, myself included. crusader was a good friend to me, and indeed as soon as she gave up on trying to survive onCape, got a swell job in Cambridge doing something useful. I was at a lovely house party thrown by a brilliant female artist less than 12 hours ago but man, some really inane cocktail chatter from the self-absorbed and self-deluded-- thank Christ the hors d'oeuvres were fabulous, 'cause I'm still obsessing over some truly stupid statements I couldn't avoid hearing... fun fun fun- the social season has begun...

Folks, can we recognize how sadly upset 'crusader' is? Don't rise to the bait as sadly, this individual appears to find joy in 'stirring the pot'. Enjoy the Cape, enjoy the peace we have now until so many folks arrive and then, enjoy the money that they bring and spend in our small towns. Don't bother stooping to the level of one who is obviously so very and terribly unhappy. In fact, as I am rather new here, is there a lot of that individual's type of sentiment on these pages? If so, I'll be heading away, I don't think I'll choose to read the words of one/s so angry atthe world, but most likely..........at her/himself!

Buzz,
DNA can be compromised. Why didn't they test ALL the evidence? It took them over 4 yrs. to find Chris McCowen when the cops knew everyone at that house. I don't believe they got the right killer in Linda Silva's case. Dubois's ex-wife is a junkie child rapist--so who do you believe? They must have had something on him, too. There are books, & stories by locals who claim women disappear, cars sinking to the bottom of the lower Cape lakes, Reines, Silva, Worthington--all unsolved as far as I am concerned & those who agree with me. Tony Costa killing women in 69', he didn't act alone. There are sociopaths on your island who abuse women, some will go so far as to kill them, too. But some also have friends, relatives in high places. I only wish I could have been a fly on the wall of the basement at the Bradford when Silva & Worthington were last seen. There are those who don't like me writing about this story. You tell me--why do they care if I don't know what I'm talking about. If I was such a nut I would be ignored. But they still read what I write & are not at peace...why?

Yeah, it's just a coincidence that she's found dead after consensual sex with a black man. The lily white establishment was waiting in the bushes for it to happen and when it did, they killed her and waited a couple of years to match the DNA. Brilliant.

hamalar,
There are few honest DA's...no one is saying that Boston is utopia either, but at least we have REAL JOBS, MIDDLE CLASS, and HUMAN BEINGS who actually give a sh*t about people in their community, not just their own mini-greenhouse of self absorption & indifference to the rest. Problem with the Cape is everyone there who isn't rich wants to be & they resent their easier lifestyle. Those who have moved there in recent years work from home via internet, commute, just try not to think about what goes out there. I've heard this from more than a few professionals who have moved from other states, they said, "Honey, this place will always be a whaling town so try not to put yourself out there at Gettysburg"....ain't that the truth. We see just how Lily White it really is...so much so that a black man can't have consensual sex with a blueblood because the scandal is just too much to bare, better to ship him off to prison and call it rape than have the family disgraced. So I wonder who sent the white local boys to rape her? Got any ideas? I'm betting it's an inside job.

Trees resumed on line is the way to go...on Cape, crafters asking "how are your trees made, where do I buy the supplies, I notice you take credit cards, I only accept cash, we have watched you sell a lot of trees today, we haven't sold anything", one woman practically accused me of scamming the CA society, I was handing out eucalyptus w/pink ribbons, to curious consumers, stupid *tch didn't know they were FREE SAMPLES!another crafter out in the hall was selling bracelets, lieing to customers they were benefitting the Cancer Fund, but she had nothing to back it up.....what a bunch of freeloaders, others were upset that I was making a profit while having a great time, I was LEGALLY DOING BUSINESS unlike most there....boyfriend is in the city & loving it, has a great paying job & refer's to the lower region as "the butt hole of the Cape" so that's just how a Sandwich native & family feel about that place, "surrounded by A-holes" is what he says about it & a place changed. My only interest is this case getting solved. Like to see some shamed into exile, & real killers in jail.

Since 12 years I live on a little Island in Spain *also with a lot of Villages.
I am very interested on Cape Cod history and the present time. I never visit before but I am sure it is 'my place in the world' , the Atlantic sea, salt, colors, the architecture...
I am a painter and Interior Designer with a huge affinity for house construction and renovation
I will travel to Cape Cod in January for some time.
Can you please give me some advice where to stay in January and which Village is the active one *with open restaurants and some people around, in these time of the year.
Thank you, Monika
