Troy, You look like you were pwned on the email thing. IP addresses can be traced. Just ask your bro.

I'm suprised that in 2009, in a modern police department, firearms can go missing. Call me crazy, but most PD's got this under control in the 90's.

Things just never seem to change in the Falmouth PD.

Troy, you're the man! At least one Blogger on this website is capable of posting the truth.

Incidentally, I spewed coffee all over my monitor the first time I read the Arnold Horseshack reference, good stuff. Keep up the good work.

I already have $1000 bet on the Duxbury/Marshfield Thanksgiving game, and I haven't even done the de facto HS class reunion the night before the game at the yet-to-be-named local pub.

If one of those kids botches a punt or something, my family may be catching and eating seagulls for Thanksgiving dinner. It goes without saying that the offending player will be maimed by one of my associates afterwards, but we don't want to unwrap that present until it's under the tree.

Hi, Troy

Perhaps you're to young to remember, but there was a time when two Planning Board members fought over a chair at the start of a meeting -physically fought over the chair.

At least Brent is fighting over an issue that means something, and that's only verbally. I shudder to think of what might have happened if those two long ago PB members had been packing as Monponsett would have it.

Troy: I love how you pooh-pooh the real issue here, which is the police department, town manager and selectmen may have blatantly violated the CORI laws by looking at sealed records. You say this will be vetted, but it should've ALREADY been taken care of. This was an issue back in NOVEMBER Troy, yet the powers that be didn't take it seriously until it started hitting the newspapers.

And that motion to adjourn by Pat Flynn? That was outrageous and disgusting and yet you gloss right over that like it was no big deal. But then you choose to harp on Brent Putnam? He's the only one who seems to be keeping things out in the open, yet you want it to remain behind closed doors.

You obviously have a bias on this case and it shows in your writing. Putnam ran on transparency and the expectation that he would challenge other selectmen. Yet you're surprised now when he's doing exactly what he said he would. But I'm not surprised, the Enterprise is known for sticking up for the town and only telling half the story. And you seem to be no different.

Troy,
In regards to the bikeway fence issue, do not allow yourself to be suckered into the homeowner playing the victim, claiming his privacy was taken away by the town of Falmouth. He never had privacy to begin with, the railroad track that were there long before he built/bought his house right next to them. Not too many years ago trains used to pas by and the passengers had a elevated view right into his home.
plans were to put plantings along that section of the path, but in tis society of instant gratification the homeowner couldn't wait a season or two for the plants to fill in. I have heard no mention of the style and materials of the fence the home owner started contsructing on town property. Not a fences are equal, what's there looks like it's ordinary fir 2x4's that will rot in a year or two, who's gonna repair or replace it when it blows over, the town? Once it's built on town property we own it. If someone can see your house from the road or sidewalk is the town going to allow them to put a fence on town property to block the view?

Hey Troy, Why should Brent Putnam, an official elected BY THE PEOPLE, have to keep his mouth closed on any issue? In this country we all have the right of free speech. Just because you and some others may not like what is being said doesn't make what he's doing wrong. How would you like it if I advised you to put your keyboard down and pickup another 1/2 gallon of ice cream instead? Yeah I thought so.

Also, have you been following what's been going on with the Wareham selectmen? I see the same thing happening here soon if the selectmen don't get their ship righted.

Don't complain too much about Mustafa btfh. Just remember how we used to elect selectmen like George Pinto who told the old Brothers Four nightclub in the Heights to take a sign down from their property for a group called "Band in Boston" because it was obscene. He thought since it was banned in Boston it must be obscene and he wasn't joking. Neither were the voters who elected him to help run the town, which is even scarier. At least Mustafa, agree with him or not, takes positions on real issues like the merits of a liquor violation charge.

Mustafa's shtick is getting old. Real old. Falmouth Police were glad to get rid of him in the 70's and the state police were equally as glad when he retired from there. I think the same will be true when he leaves the selectman's office.

The alternative is to stop sucking the tourist teat and start investing in businesses that operate independently of the season, the weather and the condition of the beaches.

Yeah, Cape Cod is and will always be somewhat dependent on tourism money, as it's a resort community, and you're right, Falmouth Heights residents who want to dismiss that are wrong to do so.

But I still think local chambers of commerce can and should be doing more -- a lot more -- to stimulate business that doesn't dependent on part-time residents or visitors in order to thrive.

Troy, how about a thumbs down to your candidate, Melissa Freitag, who failed to sign her name to a letter she wrote for publication in The Enterprise. She ran an entire campaign on open government and transparency. And then hours after she's elected, we find out a forged letter was printed in the local paper.

And while we're at it, how about calling The Enterprise on the carpet for the unforgivable sin of not checking the identity of a letter writer after a letter was submitted by a third party. That's just lazy and stupid and there's no excuse for it. Yet you choose to gloss over it because it's your paper and your candidate.

Interesting...

I don't know if Commenters are still allowed to Comment on other Commenter's Comments. Enforcement of that New Rule has saved a lot of wasted bandwidth lately. Be it noted that lottabaloney's Comment is his fifth Comment ever. He expresses a desire to read my work, which would be pretty easy given that I've blogged here for a couple of years. "'What connection he can possibly intend between"Republican" and "Maverick" suggests either that he is himself a confirmed ideologue or just ignorant of history.'" WTF? Has lottabaloney ever heard of a gent named John McCain? It is because I am WELL-VERSED in history that I AM a confirmed ideologue. Lastly, Blogging IS Public Speaking. What's stale on the Podium is stale on the Monitor.

What connection he can possibly intend between"Republican" and "Maverick" suggests either that he is himself a confirmed ideologue or just ignorant of history.

OK dammit I just looked it up and it is. b)Guides to public speaking will tell prospective Public Speakers that beginning a Public Speech with 'Merriam-Webster defines' is Yawn-Inducer Numero Uno. c)For a selfavowed Republican to dare hauling out the Maverick Card at this late date is just delicious. In response to: Advice for the Candidates
Something has to be done about the political infrastructure here on Cape Cod. We are getting hit the hardest during this recession because of fiscal mismanagement and political malfeasance. I voted for Christy last time. Rick Presbrey of Housing Assistance Corporation considered my protest of other gubernatorial candidates and support for Mihos a sign that I am not competent, and shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Speaking of negligent homeless services, check out www.welcometobarnstable.com and get a lock on why "Barnstable Becomes Unstable, Again!". My regards to Peter Robbins. What a good guy, and make sure he gets a read on the 411.

An old adage of local politics is when it snows make sure the streets are plowed and make sure the trash is picked up. Privatizing the dump seems like the selectmen are grasping at straws. It has become a part of the community and more than just a place where you go to "dump" your refuse. This is in part due to the town management of the dump and the congeniality of the community as a whole. While this continue under a privatization approach? How do you contract for ambiance and friendliness? The people of Falmouth need to let the Selectmen know how they feel and the Selectmen need to listen. Let's save the dump.

It appears that a continuance of "no bottom line" flagrantly exists in local government as lawmakers aggressively seek new tax revenues at every turn.

Perhaps a double tax should be enacted on all lawmakers salaries for incompetence...an "incomp tax".

A measure entrusted by volunteer taxpayers would oversee lawmakers progress, or lack of, and impose the "incomp tax" on those who fail to meet the established guidelines.

Heck, given these parameters, every town would be flush with capital.

Just a thought...

OK you brainless idiots another mission for this peace loving group. The very day Barack Obama was sworn in as President, warning Americans "our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred," there were reports an al-Qaeda affiliate recently abandoned a training camp in Algeria after 40 terrorists died from being exposed to the plague during a biological weapons test.

The report, which first surfaced in the British tabloid newspaper The Sun, claims members of al-Qaeda in the Land of the Maghreb (AQLIM) hurriedly abandoned their cave hideouts in Tizi Ouzou province, 150 kilometres east of the Algerian capital Algiers, after being exposed to plague bacteria. Now get over there and read the poems and spread the peace.

Another group of 60's relics, trying to save the world, get over to Darfur, Somalia, NW Pakistan and about 60 countries with al Qaeda radical muslim war raging, talk to Mugambe, Hezbollah, Hamas, North Korea, and Syria. I know you can talk a homicide bomber out of it.That should "thin your group out". And who is going to save your lilly white a--es when the 'unworldly beasts" come for you, not your poems or "commitment to peace" John Stuart Mill describes you idiots to a tee.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Peace can be experienced by being able to hear the "Sound of Peace." Totally believe in and perceive peace.
All the boaters, fisherman and people on shore on Cape Cod, have numerous
ways, moments, and places to hear it. It is their if you seek it out.

The last time I was in Harwichport. I was surrounded by it.
I noticed how people troubled, having a bad day, drove to a beach area, facing out to Nantucket sound, Sitting in their autos, searching for the sound of peace.Definitely sad and lonely, People today need to find it. Pointing them in a fresh direction to deal with stress. Not every one can handle stress. The people in our country can handle stress I really believe this.
If any of us can think big. We can over come the pain. If we can continue to think small, narrow and loud. Peace is nowhere within the sound of our own fears and ones own voice. Don't live in fear. We have had a leader that hung a cloud of fear over us for 8 years. We are not better off from the past frightful days. Peace and hope. It is our time !God Speed President BARACK OBAMA. Our people wait.

Clarkson, a local government professional, grew up in Falmouth and has been deeply involved with the Falmouth community since 1993, when he was first elected to the Board of Selectmen at age 24 and served four terms in Falmouth's corner office, making his mark as a fiscal conservative and outspoken advocate for the integrity of our New England form of government. He writes about the goings on in the Cape's second largest town and offers the perspective of one of the town's longest serving Selectmen.
