Jon,
You have to catch that homing pigeon and get the numbers off the band, then you can track the owners down online (yeah, sure!) I got one at Rock Harbor in Orleans that supposedly got off track during a training flight somewhere near Westport. The owner, who looked like a pirate, came to pick up the bird a week later. I found out that many times those birds are rented out for weddings, funerals, etc. and fail to return to the owners after the oohs and ahhs. (The moral being, blow bubbles, leave the birds out of it.)
Thanks for the lovely reminder of another of P-Town's beautiful seasons.

P'town in the off-season is amazing. It's a treat to walk down an empty Commercial Street... past the shuttered up leather shops... and watch the fog roll over the moors. Thanks for the photos.

I think we could still put some windmills on Scargo Hill.

Cool pictures - birch trees are my favorite. And it looks like you could hide a geocache quite nicely in those roots ;-)

Beautiful baby, too.

Due to NIMBY stuff here, New Hampshire beat Cape Cod to mountaintop wind farms.

I saw a few log cabins up north this weekend.

Marge, I am glad you like the seasonal shots. I did the same thing for Bass River.

The next link includes seasonal shots from other Northside locations.

I will be doing more seasonal shots, capewide.

Since we are on the North topic, a desired log cabin would be welcome.

That is soooo cool -- the way you stood in precisely the same spot for the summer/autumn/winter views thanks for doing it!
An 8 month project!!!

I know it was undoubtedly cold to go up there in the winter, but the result is sheer beauty....I always loved the way the wind makes little "patterns" on the snow...

The whole thing looks terrific!

Numah, I updated to include a photo in the Easterly direction, per your request.
You'll find those houses are not visible and the view, not half bad.
Maybe trees filled in a bit.

Numah, You can barely see those houses through the trees. As for why I didn't include them, I prefer the view to the North much better, and most often prefer to be an optimist.
I suppose you could ask the same question of graffiti on the tower.

why din't you show the houses that butt right up against the tower. which spoiled the eastward landscape many moons ago. I stopped going there when all those houses were built. so stop making like it's some great view. it is if you like big houses I guess

Scargo Tower is one of the first places I bring visitors to (not to push them off, as my husband might suggest) - you can get great views! Nice sky photos, Jon.

I was thinking one could jump on one from behind with a burlap sack, but they're pretty fast and jumpy for big birds. Plus, they can kick like the dickens. Better to find them along the power lines and hunt them properly, in season, calls and all.
Most folks I know who have tried local wild turkey say its quite gamy, but that's so subjective.
I smoked a turkey for T-Day once... took about 6 or 7 hours. That was all wrong. Deep fried isn't half bad, but a T-Day bird should really be baked.
Thanks for the cool photos, they really seem to be posing for you.

Buzz

We have hordes of turkeys all the time here in Mashpee..crossing route 139 by the dozens...
I attempted to capture some but they cried afoul, and I was charged with a hate crime..oh well.
I recently joined PETA..People Eating Tasty Animals.

Turkeys will be $.69 a pound before Thanksgiving..

If the economical mess continues, people just might realize the nutritional value of stir-fried dandelions. It's like weeds among the wheat, but in this case, the lawn.

I agree, Ana. This time of year, bees and butterflies appreciate them as well.
I have shasta daisies that I raised myself, after recognizing some weeds as tiny shastas while weeding properties.
I raise mums that way, too.
Never assume a weed is worthless. :)

Shasta daisies are a must have this time of year, and tend to live well into the end of November before they go into hibernation.

I updated this to include a picture of the guy who inspired the poem. He circles around the lane in Hyannisport, watching us work. Sometimes his nurse finds him and scolds him a bit for wandering so. Nontheless he is doing what's necessary.
Keep walkin' old man!

Ana, then you are one lucky lady to have a well manicured premise!

I have many perennials and bulbs, my dahlia's are amazing and lots of lillies too,...perhaps Jonathan I'll send you some photos, if you were near me, I'd hire you---few around here have the smarts to start up a good yard care business, something our community is severely lacking and where a lot of money could be made with the right marketing. I'd even invest $ in one, with the right partner, but it is hard to find a good partner in business or personally---lol

I love your photos Jonathan, you have a great eye for photography.

I would think the District could fund and direct such uncomplicated and inexpensive endeavours, especially when the programs are held out by The District as a substitute for the old traditions.
I believe our kids need to learn real life skills, as sadly many parents do not teach them.
Frankly, if Sex Ed. is determined to be critical, so are the skills needed to feed and clothe oneself.
