Not sure who found the pics but bravo, most likely Julie posted the 1980's and Walter posted the 1990's although with Sir Walter just having a birthday it might be that he took the first pictures and is just dreaming of the second.. LOLOL,, Thank you guys

Solon my friend. I would have loved to visit longer, someday that time will come with the hours will not fly by like the wind can blow off the Sound. As far as the Molasses to the Amish cookies, doooont think it quite works that way. Good try though, my molasses cookie recipe was in January of this year. Just buy an extra pie to bring home next time..

Sorry we didn't spend a little more time together when you were here. It's always a delight to see you.

On these cookies, I don't know much about cookies and baking, but I did spend some time in Amish country. All that sugar reminds me of the taste of shoo fly pie. Would adding molasses to the mix bring it close to shoo fly pie?

Oh, don't remind me about how we dismissed the idea of buying a house near the bay in Eastham in the mid-1990s, or the house near the pond in Sandwich that was ~$120,000 in the late '80s. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.... that's life.

Steve, I love your recipes but was wondering if you had some index to them. Do you have anything easy and interesting to do with a canned ham? My husband stocked up on some at Ocean State Job Lot.

Its still great to get out there and enjoy the water and the peace the ocean has to offer.(Just stay away from Chatham's coastline or not).I love the recipe without the orgeano and added olives and garlic.

Rockhopper, when I was in my 20s or 30s, I was building a sunfish--out of wood, no fiberglas--in my garage. Before I finished it I got called back into the Army, so I sold it to a friend.

On the salad, if you cut back on the vinegar, replace the cutback with olive oil (AFTER refrigerating salad), and add feta, you've got a Greek "peasant salad." (Radishes optional). All very yummy and nutritious.

I remember seeing Senator Kennedy often about Hyannis always with a smile and wave and of recently out at sea on his sailboat. He loved the Cape as we did and will be missed by many.

Rockhopper - Off topic, but in reference to your established and welcomed patronage of the Old Landing Inn... Two rooms have just opened up for next weekend, since my relatives suddenly had to cancel for medical reasons. If you're not booked, you could drive your current vehicle to the Cape to celebrate your 5th blog-a-versary!

Sailorsgirl- that is way to funny. My dad was alway afraid to stick to much up there first in scratching the roof and second it coming off going down the highway. ,,, thanks for reading.

Congrats on your 5th!
The first car I rode to the Cape in was my Dad's 1954 Olds - a 2-tone green model. That was followed by a Green 1964 Olds - he designed a wooden box that fit on the top of a board frame with suction cups mounted on the bottom that he stuck on the roof - then that contraption got strapped on with clamps that held onto the door frames. Weird but it worked. He painted it green to match the cars.

I remember a 1986 Volkswagen Synchro wagon that my husband and I drove up and down the Lower Cape one summer day because it had air conditioning and the cottage and beaches were hotter than Hades LOL! The last few years it seems the roads have been more crowded with humongous SUVs. Just this year I'm starting to see more small cars, especially Priuses, which makes me breathe a little easier when biking precariously along the white shoulder line (sorry folks - to get to the store I have to cover .8 mile on 6A).

Wasn't it Bestgen's (sp?) on Shad Hole Rd? Rememer those nasty syrafoam floats? Gave you rashes all over your chest.

Someone on the street had an inner tube from an airplane. It stood about 10 feet tall. Rolling that thing to the beach was a blast. We could get about 8 people on that thing in the water. Thanks Hopper for the memories.

bipr; David does a wonderful job and will take care of the in-laws. Clean rooms, close to the water and beach, and easy access to all points on the Cape. David is one I am proud to call my friend and recommend his establishment to others.

RH - I stopped by the Old Landing Motel today, since thanks to Solon's blog last year, my in-laws from far and farther away will stay there in August. Dave mentioned you and Solon. He certainly seems like a nice innkeeper, and you can't beat the location for pure Olde Cape Cod.

I remember the one time our nephews floated out too far and it took a while to figure they were being serious about being stuff and watching you and anther guy take off swimming to rescue them. Fortunately, you guys were both good swimmers, but it was scary for a bit. Therefore, this mom doesn't want to be on a raft unless I am anchored or being pulled around. :-)

I was out back the other day and heard a plane flying over with a roof banner (not my favorite advertising) but when I heard that sound though it did take me back to laying on the cape beach drifting between awake and asleep, I never sleep too soundly on the beach, but so it did bring those thoughts to mind...

I would add the Chatham fish pier to your list - it's free and if you're lucky enough to get there when the fishing boats are unloading, there's plenty of entertainment. Not to mention the view, which is always entertaining. In season, the fish market next door is open - best fish and chips anywhere.

So I guess it's safe to assume you never dine at "The Naked Oyster"

There is nothing vulgar about the drink.
Canadien Whiskey makes one think of Beards, Arctic and all.
The amaretto, almond, is related to the clam, as each must be cracked open to spur enjoyment.
Cocktail is just code for cranberry, as in Cranberry Juice Cocktail.
Here we see it as not mere vulgarity, but a darn witty stringing together of wholly innocent associations.
;)

About This Blog

A rose covered Cape Cod cottageMy name is Stephen G. and I do not "live" on the Cape (except in my rose-covered dream cottage above), but I love the place even more because of that. I have been a summer visitor since 1965, and I am obsessed with Cape Cod as only a long-distance lover can be. Here again my family says I have a problem, that I need to be committed (to the Cape that is), because of my obsessiveness about it.

I work in the health insurance industry because my family likes to eat and have a roof over their heads and I like to be able to pay for my vacations to the Cape. I am passionate about my art work and hope to make that my main job someday.

Please let me know if you agree with the tales I tell, and also let me know if you do NOT agree.
