Why not just purchase a case of (12) whoopie pies for $3.99 and sell them for $1.19 a piece.

He could erase all that by having his stores sell whoopie pies for a quarter or something all during his campaign. It's those little things that gain a man those wavering precincts.

Great job, Christy!
You have my vote.
One thing you could do for small business is eliminate the minimum corporate tax, which applies even when the corporation suffers a loss. It's a kick in the teeth for struggling small businesses. Not even the ravenous IRS tries to levy tax upon a year with losses, but the DOR is another story.
Keep at it Mr. Mihos! Bipartisan politics will save us.

I haven't always agreed with you, Christy, but good luck in your run for governor. Promise to repeal the coming increases in taxes and start reducing the huge number of patronage jobs in this state and you'll have my vote and I'm sure, many others.

Why don't we hold the pomp and circumstance until his tenure is over.
By then we should have a decent idea where he stands in the rankings.

I think Erik looked like a regular guy in the video not stuck up but that is just my opinion. I think it is time to get some younger people on the board and Erik looks like he would be good. Alot of this back and forth seems to be comming from insiders and not average citizens. Time for some fresh ideas I say

I am glad to see so much support for Erik Tolley because he has my vote and that of everyone I talk to too. I also saw the “Meet the Candidates Night” and it put me off the others but I was impressed with how direct, informed and honest Erik Tolley’s answers were. The others talked until their time ran out or over, but Erik just gave straight answers without trying to impress or manipulate. When he gets on that Board he will not only do his job well but he will get the other members to get down to business and be more effective which is what he is there to do. I pity the slacker and schmoozer Board Members when they have to work with him. Yes I am casting just one vote this time. The only one I can. Erik Tolley, this voter hires you!

I made up my mind to vote for Erik Tolley when I watched the Candidate’s Night video on the town’s website but this blog just strengthened my conviction. I was happy to see him in the race because frankly I dreaded the thought of voting for the incumbents or Curtis Sears. Erik has given me someone to vote FOR. I saw in the news awhile back that he earned LEED AP certification which is the gold standard for sustainable development. How could we pass on putting someone on our Board who is an expert in this while federal and State regulations (and monies) are put in place? He takes high school student interns at his business, donates to the town, has served effectively on several Town Committees, and has the deepest family roots here of any of them. So thanks for pointing out that I and the teachers would have liked him in high school too. Don’t we all hope our kids turn out that way?

This blog can't be serious. Who is SM's editor...Andy Rooney? "know it all," "jock," "cheerleader?" Is this a serious election or are we crowning the prom king and queen? This Tuesday I will be voting for ONE person based entirely upon my perception of his ability to lead...nothing more...nothing less. Least of all whether or not he seems to be impressed with himself. I admire confidence. Grow up people!!

We vote for who is most like us? Let's see..... An overwhelmingly white moderately conservative country just elected a black liberal president. Senator Specter is switching political parties. No blogger "SM", today all politics is serious because the stakes for complacency and recklessness are frighteningly high, and expecting Mr. Sears
to lead our town into the future is in itself complacent,
wreckless, and frightening. Further, I think you owe our
good students of DY High an apology. Along with our candidates.

While placing one's self in the political limelight is a sure way to 'attract' character attacks, I find it amusing that all comments about Erik are based not on fact, but on (personal) speculation. His skin is thick, or he would not be running for Selectman, but I entreat you to review some of the facts concerning him (and the other candidates, of course) and solidify your character attacks based on something real, something substantial, if need be. Erik is most definitely self-assured, but since when is confidence a flaw?
This isn't about who is the most popular or the better looking, the shortest, tallest or loudest, after all, this is about WHO will do the best for our town, WHO has our best interest in mind, WHO will make changes and follow through on campaign promises. Let's keep our focus on the things that matter, not on the height or weight or hair color of a candidate....
* hands the soap box over to someone else *

What I like about Curtis - he says what he means, whether you disagree with him or not, you get a straight answer and he does what he thinks is best for the town, and he listens to people even if they have other views. Dr. Marasco? Does anyone ever know what he means? He just says anything and everything to push his personal agenda, doesn't care much about what happens to the town. Erik Tolley is very impressed with himself, isn't he? Doesn't speak much to the people he thinks are below him. Curtis has my vote.

Erik Tolley is a striver, seems very impressed with himself.... not sure his head is in the right place. And he was no jock in highschool, just a tall, uncoordinated, gangly teenager.
Can't disagree with Curtis.

Shecky, not to let facts get in the way of a good story, but when Baker took over Harvard Pilgrim, it was on the verge of bankruptcy, and it is now one of the most successful HMOs in the business, with one of the best customer satisfaction ratings in the industry.
I'm not a Baker guy (yet), and I'm not anti-Christy (yet) - I just think it's way too early to be jumping on any bandwagon before either of them share their ideas. (And Christy had some wacky ideas during his last foray in the Guv race.)

I became a registered Democrat in 1980 when Reagan got the GOP nomination. If Bush had gotten it, I might still be an independent voter.
I always voted for Sargent, Brooke, Bill Weld. I think I missed voting for Richardson, but I would have voted for him, too. I made calls for Frank Hatch against the corporatist conservative Democrat Ed King.
The last time I voted Republican was more of a vote against the ultra-liberal Harshbarger, for signing off as AG on the fraudulent animal rights 3-in-1 ballot initiative, so I held my nose and voted for Celucci.
I still would, because I detest extremism on both the left and right. I mostly vote Democratic today because most of the extremism and ideological rigidity comes from the post-Reagan GOP.

I believe the point Brooks is making is that everyone is pissed at health insurance companies and Mihos created his own business and ran it with great success as opposed to being another overpaid C.E.O.
The story also runs a puff piece for Baker in a smarmy city mag which few would have seen if Brooks hadn't included it here, so whose nose is up whose whatever.

Okay, so it's clear you're shilling for Christy, you've had your nose in his crack for months.
And your "poll?" How many responses there?
"Their only criteria is wealth." Huh? You think Charlie Baker has more money than Christy? What are you smoking?
Do you have a problem with an open contest between the two of them? Certainly, there is no "institutional" advantage to Baker - there's no institution in the first place.

Our state reps and senators were elected to do just that..find answers.
We do our jobs by working and supporting our officials with taxes.
They should answer by doing their jobs and running this state as a business..
and not continually reaching into our pockets for the answers of fiscal mismanagement on their part.
In real business, running an operation into the ground with no accountability usually results with the shareholders terminating the elected officers of the board..as they did not perfrom their elected, or hired, positions effectively.
We did our part by electing those who supposedly would perform their elected duties..they have not!
When we protest and demand accountability..for poor performance..
it is cynicism and whining on our part.
Thank you for the vote, and words, of confidence.

Amazingly, people think that the problems that were created over many years, will just go away in a snap. Cluelessness disguised as cynicism. The structural problems of the Massachusetts budget, the problems with the Big Dig, and ignoring our crumbling infrastructure have been around for years. It was a lot easier in the past to just ignore these things and let someone else deal with them. One thing the governor has done poorly is lost control of the message. He is partly to blame for that. Yet for all the talk about gas taxes or toll hikes, you don't see much attention paid to the reforms in the bills filed. And people should be engaged in finding answers, not just whining.
