When last I was on Cape Cod, I feared the most that the Cape towns and villages will become too commercial.
Their are always, boards, investors that want to slap down money to build more of everything.
I recommend the townships to see to it that they issue bonds so the same investors to invest in the townships, rather than seek to raise any sort of taxes. No one likes taxes.Issue a 3% to 7% earned interest, 5 year or 10 year note. Promote it and you have a sure thing going.
No one will listen. Not the State of Arizona, California, or Congress. And yet every state relys on taxes, while people are investing in foreign securties to make that extra buck ! It is being promoted.
I have checked this out with people who have commented in favor.
Question: Why can't people invest in their own State and their own Country?
We have one problem. people who from WW11 are still trying to collect from Washington on those war bonds, to date.
The treasury wants more proof that they are the people who they say they are.
A simple Notary sworn affidavit should be all that should be required.

Dan is your typical liberal, the people who have lived in these cottages have been here for years but Dan does not like their type and wants them out, just like businesses. Thing is these people work at real jobs while Dan has his and doesn't show up to that one. If the Town of Dennis Selectman had any brains between them they would fire him. However, instead they hired a town manager who will protect him, but then again talk to people who live in Winthrop. They are glad Dennis now has their problem.

There is a movement around the world to find the best sites for wind power. And those sites traditionally take into account the environment and others who share the siting space. Not just a land grab by a developer and the location he chooses that can make the most money. At your expense no less.
These folks have the right idea:

PS...the original Cape Wind approval was given by the USArmy Corps of Engineers. The same Corps that was successfully sued in Federal Court this week for their negligence and being the major cause of flooding and damage during Hurricane Katrina.

Embryos are gross!
They should'nt be showing those to kids.
When I was a kid we saw a pic of one in a science book
maybe once a year, end of story.
We did'nt talk about it.
We did'nt form Embryo Clubs.
We did'nt greet by saying,"Hey seen any good embryos lately?"
We did'nt name any sports team "Embryos".
We never heard of even a DOG or CAT being named "embryo".
"Embryo" would ALMOST have made a good name for
a NASA mission/spacecraft/orbiter
or a Jaques Costeau submersible
but I guess the fetus people got it first. Yuck!..
We did'nt need a 3D Diarama
or God forbid a dead THING floating in alcohol-

Peter Walker - If the parents are property owners they pay taxes which fund the school system.
What I was getting at is parents who "protect" their children end up raising idiots who can't think for or take care of themselves as adults.
I'll bet these same kids listen to music with all kinds of negative messages, watch whatever they want on TV and dress like Brittney Spears and the rest of the pop music sluts these kids idolize.
I'm sure this is all about religion which doesn't belong in a public school system.
If the parents want religion to be part of their kids education send them to church on Sunday and/or religious school all week - keep religion out of public schools.

Whatever-the-heck they were laying down on Tuesday was the most vile, awful-smelling muck. It wasn't asphalt, it was some sort of sealant, and it smelled like airplane glue amplified 100x. I can't imagine working around that stuff is healthy; heck, I can't imagine working around that stuff doesn't cause powerful hallucinations after a few minutes.

Although I have no problem with the other organs ( liver, spleen, etc) being shown, the human embryo would give me pause. I stand by my original comment that the teacher did nothing wrong; however, if I were a parent, the whole embryo thing might bother me a bit. But then again, I doubt the teacher knew it was coming into the class. lesson learned: before doing a presentation to children, go over it with the presenter. As a parent, and a teacher of a 5th graders, I can assure you that even the most protected, naive child has probably already seen at least an illustration of an embryo. Is seeing the "real thing" traumatic? I doubt it. I can understand why some parents would be upset, particularly if what their child encounters goes against religious or personal beliefs. But again, I would urge common sense over emotion. I doubt this teacher had a hidden agenda. He/she just wanted to stimulate the students with something besides worksheets and textbooks. Parents can discuss what they believe with the child...and let it go. Good luck to all involved.

So what you're saying is that a show and tell with an aborted human being in a jar is going to stop a 10 or 11 year old from getting pregnant.
"No Johnny no, it sure feels good but I saw a fetus in a jar a couple of years ago."
Don't bogart the yayo pipe cracker.

Since the Sandwich Superintendent of Schools makes more than the Governor, I assume she'll do a fine job resolving this matter.
These are probably the same parents who just won't understand why or how their little cherub turns up pregnant some day...
If the parents don't like what's taught in the classroom let them enroll their kids in private schoool.

Hello again from Baltimore,
A wise person once said, "Education is what remains when what has been taught has been forgotten." Let's hope the students NEVER forget this experience. It may be the last. God forbid we actually teach these kids something that interests them! I do colonial reenactments here. I went to school in my complete colonial outfit. The first question students had: "What's underneath? Do you wear underwear?" When I told them there was no such thing, they were hooked and paid attention to the entire lesson. But of course, I was terrified that some prudish parent would come back after me for discussing "unmentionables." Lighten up Sandwich parents... your children can easily see almost anything they wish...simply be clicking a mouse or turning a channel. Are you monitoring THAT? I'd rather they be presented information by an expert, who knows the facts. It's no wonder the quality of education in this country is declining. We kill curiousity, all in the name of "Education." Bravo, teacher, whoever you are. I am honored to share the profession with you!"

I was teaching up in the city, and they had me do a science class. I just happened to pick it up during Sex Ed, but that's a story for another comment.
A Maverick-esque charter fisherman friend of mine from Green Harbor was admiring this hand-held anenometer (?) that I had acquired somehow. I recalled this when he was asking me about Dissection class, and some stuff may have traded hands that day which resulted in me owning a Blue Shark carcass.
So.. we drag it out on the pier, and I lead the class through the proverbial "half-assed autopsy on a fish." We dumped what we didn't use (and what we did use, now that I think about it) off Pier 4.
The next day, I get a call during my off period. It's the program that one of my students lives at, after he nearly murdered his sister or something.
"Is Johnathan lying when he tells us that he got that heart from a shark dissection?"
They thought he may have taken the organ from a child, or had maybe slaughtered a cat.
We all had a good laugh, and from that day forward I kept a better eye on the organs we were eviscerating.

Indeed it wasn’t, people from the city had discovered it and land was cheap enough to build houses where there used to be deer. Strip malls were the new architectural disaster to hit the Cape, and in the summer you even could get stuck in traffic on 6A. “All started with that ‘Summer White House’ foolishness on the south side of town, Camelot my arse, used to be nice and quiet here until the television brought us front and center to the world. “Ah the good ol’ days” he would say, and then get quiet for a while.
