“There’s a new Sheriff in town!”

Janet Joakim fired back at bloggers today, showing apparent concern regarding town meeting security in light of the recent Kirkwood shootings where six people were killed. On her blog “Seven Villages” Town Council President Janet “Go Ahead Punk” Joakim seems to be very concerned about the possibility of someone going POSTAL at any one of Barnstable’s many town meetings. (Or could this be just another sly attempt to put further restrictions on town meeting commenters? - Or is Joakim really worried?)

This blog has turned into a church social.

I could care less about Peter Porc., fat white guys, Cynthia S., gay fat women, traffic reports on Cape Cod. Or who outed who.

I hope Renee is chosen to bring new life to the landscape.

For all I know, everything you're saying is true, but stuff like that (and "reign of terror"? Puh-leeeze!) makes it not so credible.

Don't be fooled, folks, Cynthia is hiding her identity again and commenting under ANOTHER alias which is another very good reason to jump her.

Well it's pretty apparent that Doug has an axe to grind, innit? Nothing objective about this piece.

It is an axiom of politics that you can't stay in office a long time without making enemies. Show me a long-serving incumbent who is loved by all and I'll show you a do-nothing go-alonger.

That said, the state committee position is not a typical political position. I know little of Cynthia's personal relationships, but the only question of importance at this stage is, how effective is she at the grinding work of party building and candidate recruitment?

And there's nothing better to bring that out than a good cat fight. Heh heh.

President Ronald Reagan is rolling over in his grave. All the talk going on to defeat Cynthia will accomplish only one thing. Destroy the Republican Party on Cape Cod or what is left of it that hasn't been destroyed by people who put themselves first and not think of the party as a whole. The Democrats are drooling at this fight, and laughing. The Republican's can't get a Republican elected here on Cape Cod, they are too busy fighting amongst themselves.

Aaron, Cynthia could not have outed you "every chance she got" with you already out - by your own acknowledgement. What Doug Bennett wrote here about Cynthia allegedly outing you in her column is inaccurate. Ironically, the person Doug could have cited as responsible for that is you.

But you are right about one thing - deep down, and on the surface for that matter, Cynthia is really a nice woman.

This is "Horton Hears A Hoo" politics, a microcosym.

It is bi-partisan and enlightening, on all aspects of America's growing two-party political problem.

There are only two "corporate" parties in America today.

Even the Debate Commission is run by only two powerful corporate lobbyists, on supposedly opposite sides, but with the same agenda.

And it is always the people who will pay their bills for their false promises.

Jack, Cynthia outed me every chance she got....at least she thought she was outing me. I never hid my homosexualness, but she REALLY played it up to the Republican voters prior to the primary and during the general election.

I don't have a problem with people knowing my identity if they are comfortable with it. The problem is that Cynthia went around telling little 85 year old lady's and other's who were uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the topic.

I am sure that down deep Cynthia is a really a nice woman, and maybe she has changed. But I do feel that Renee Sherwood is a strong woman and helps rebuild the Republican party on Cape Cod. Cynthia has done many bad things to many people so I think it will be hard for her to fix the party even if she truly has changed.

As for the her involvement with the Cape Cod Times, now we know their agenda. Of all the Republicans they could have chosen they chose her.

I think we will see Cynthia Stead again some time in the future, perhaps even as a State Rep. But now isn't, and shouldn't be that time.

Capemom, I am also tooling on you when I say this but if anyone is qualified to make this observation it is me.

On this inside you are clearly a very smart and strong woman. But if I had never talked to you and never knew you were a bookworm, I would definitely label you as the quintessential and archetypal stepford wife: Tall, thin, very blond, professionally-styled hair, soft facial features....come on! You are like every Republican CEO's dream trophy wife.

I am just tooling on Renee 'cause she looks so cute in her pic. She's an accomplished woman and would do a good job, I'm sure.

She was probably one of those goody-two-shoes kids who won the good citizenship award in 4th grade.

My bad, Doug, thanks for clarifying that. I was looking at Cynthia's columns from this past September and October when I should have been looking a year earlier.

That being said, James raises a good point - wasn't Maloy already "out" by the time in question? I seem to recall a Doreen Leggett story before the primary where Maloy stated he was openly gay.

Capemom, Renee is no Stepford wife. She is a retired education leaders and reputable university. As for her children, they are just as impressive as she. One of them in particular, a successful Boston businessman has expressed utmost appreciation for her on numerous occasions when I socialized with him at GOP events on the Cape. Look at her picture! You can tell how sharp she is just by looking at her. What a gorgeous photo!

Aaron asked Stacey out to coffee once... she was all psyched someone asked her out... then he told her he was gay, and he just thought she was funny or something... she was crestfallen.

Either way, it was well before the election.

What's wrong with Cynthia? Is so afraid to answer these charges? If so, she deserves to go.

Was Aaron not out by September 21?

For Jack Coleman's question, Stead outted Malloy in her September 21, 2006 column.

In the seventh paragraph she said: "The two final contenders come from the edges of their parties. While both are gay, they could not be further apart on issues. Sarah Peake supports gay marriage, while Aaron Maloy opposes it. Maloy is strongly pro-life, while Sarah Peake is pro-choice. Indeed, both candidates saw a strong degree of out-of-district donations as the Right and Left turn the race into a chess match dominated by larger forces, not necessarily of primary concern to Fourth Barnstable voters."

Doug, I take it you've got a personal beef with Cynthia. I've known her for a number of years now and have worked with her on the State Committee. She is one of the most honest, forthright, extremely fair, and unbiased people I know. She's spent innumerable hours on local candidate campaigns and has been working with me to improve the communications of the MassGOP. She's doing what she was elected to do as State Committeewoman. And she's well-liked by virtually all of the Cape people I know. I'm not sure why you fabricated these lies, but it does not reflect well on yourself or any future political aspirations you have.

I enjoyed Peter Porcupine's posts here at CCT. Enlightening, historic and at times brilliant.

However, I have seen here dark side. If you don't agree with her she will attack. And like Jack C. it has nothing to do with the truth. Just their personal agenda which is usually related to monetary rewards.

I hope Renee wins. The GOP on Cape needs new ideas a few new Scouts.

Renee of Stepford, um, Barnstable, is so cute, perky and perfect (Mother of 3 Eagle Scouts!) it's almost sickening.

There is a skeleton rattling around in her highly organized closet, I'll guarantee ya. Whereas with Cynthia, what you see is what you get, in all her quirkiness.

Doug, please cite the date of the column and specifically what Cynthia Stead wrote when she allegedly outed Aaron Maloy. I went to the CC Times' website and read through Stead's three columns "immediately" after the primary in September and did not see any references to Maloy.

Cynthia Stead (aka Peter Porcupine) makes $37,266.60 a year as an Administrative Assistant at the Massachusetts Highway Department.

So we, the taxpayers, are paying her almost $40k to promote her right wing agenda and bash gays.

I'll be honest with you all. I live in a pretty nice house. I don't do anything close to wage/salary work. I have 2 healthy kids, a superb husband, and a very happy border collie.

But then I miss Bennett for Senate on Hardball... and it occurs to me that the world is sometimes a cruel and unfair place.

Even Bennett couldn't be THAT stupid. Of course he did... didn't he????

Excellent question "Doug-Bonics" (TJ). The Board of Selectmen and the County Commissioners are two seperate boards. One deals with issues that only deal with the town and the latter deals with county issues. Each government entity has it's own separate budget. Nantucket is the smallest county in Massachusetts. Dukes County or the Vineyard is the Second smallest.

So how did this election work out for you?
