Whoopie! Christy invigorates local gas prices again, Hess follows suit

Above is the new C-Mart station on Route 28 in Hyannis across from Pufferbellies which was opened this month by Christy Mihos after he sold his 12 "Christy's of Cape Cod" mini-marts to Hess.
C-Mart offers 10 cents off its $1.79 a gallon price for cash, 15 cents off for Vets
By Walter Brooks
Christy Mihos' new discount gas station in Hyannis, C-Mart, doesn't have a mini-mart and it doesn't have Whoopie Pies, but it does have gas prices 20 cents a gallon under most other stations on Cape Cod.

C-Mart sells gas as low as $1.64 a gallon for vets and service personnel, but it does not (yet) have Whoopie Pies.
He recently opened and spruced up a station bordering the Barnstable Municipal Airport on Route 28 in Hyannis, and if you are a veteran or a member of the United States Armed Services, you can pay $1.64 a gallon using cash.
Even ordinary folks gets 10 cents a gallon off by paying cash, and the credit card price is still very low, $1.79 for regular.
Hess new design and sign
Christy sold his twelve "Christy's of Cape Cod" stores to Hess earlier this month. Hess Petroleum has also spent a pile to redesign and re-sign all its stations here as well.
The new signs offer the price for regular in a bright, new green and white Hess design, and it's currently $1.87 for regular gas.
The story about the sale elicited many comments, with many bemoaning the apparent loss of Christy's giant $1.79 Whoopie Pies. We deeply regret to inform readers that Hess does NOT offer them but a little Greek bird told us C-Mart soon will..

Not to be outdone, Hess is also promoting its price for regular gas on each of its signs like this one inSouth Orleans, see above.

Sanity Clause is Coming to Town
As you can tell, gas prices just over the bridge are much cheaper than in, say, Falmouth. Even reindeers are making the hajj.
I can save you the lengthy research by telling you that every station on the Cranberry Highway has regular unleaded for $1.65/gallon... even the full-serves. I did see one station at $1.79, but the locals tell me that he just has a gas station to draw people into his mechanic's business.
Once we were done bothering Mrs. Marcotte for pictures of her Reindeer Car, we shifted over to another car that had Clover the Bulldog in it. Clover was rocking his Patriots jersey, getting ready for today's game against Oakland.
For a cookie or two, he was good enough to pose for us.
As if we didn't have enough fun at the gas station, the third car we encountered was a guy with 2 generators and 5 propane containers in his truck. We asked him what section of town he was camping in.
"I just escaped New Hampshire this morning.... this (Wareham) was as far south as I had to drive to get a generator. I only got it because the guy at Home Depot chased me down in the parking lot to inform me that a shipment had just arrived. I figure I can sell then other one for 5 times the price up in the White Mountains."
$1.99/Gallon And Dropping Like A Ho
Monponsett cranks out a list of the lowest prices here
George Bush (under the thumb of a chastising Democratic Congress) can kill all the Muslims he wants if gas prices keep dropping like this. In fact, I'd even allow the man some wiggle room for Buddhists, Wiccan enthusiasts and Hindus if we can steal a few pennies from their oil-soaked carcasses.
Gas prices are going down like a skilled wharf girl, leaving people to wonder if $.99 a gallon is within reach. Maybe the Arabs will be paying us soon... as rightfully they should, the devious SOBs.
I'd list the prices one can find if they hunt around in Wareham and Buzzards Bay a bit, but it's easier to just tell you that it's $1.99 a gallon all around up here. So, we will instead focus on the suckers still charging over $2.00 a gallon on the Cape.
THE GAS LINE:
Delcie's Gulf, Buzzards Bay, $2.11
Gulf, Rte 28, Hyannis (the other two Gulf stations in Hyannis are $1.99 and $2.00, respectively... someone 'splain that, please)
West Main Gas and Car Wash, Hyannis, $2.01
Speedway on Willow St., $2.04
Citgo, 28A, Bourne, $2.37
Sunoco, Otis Rotary, $2.24

Exxon, Rte 151, Falmouth, $2.09
Gulf, Rte 6A, Orleans, $2.23
Christy's, Rte 28, Orleans, $2.25, but there may be a Whoopie Pie discount
Going off-Cape to Plymouth is no help... they range from $2.01-$2.14 up there.

Spooky Gas Prices
You're as crazy as a loon if you fill your tank without checking Cheap Gas, blogga!

My man has an aerial view of the region, and he'll help me tell you what's what in the world of Petrol.
You have to be sort of a Lucky Duck to get away from the pump without having to whore out your eldest daughter, although gas prices have dropped from about $4 and change to the mid $2s.
Now, some people will tell you that these falling gas prices are a sign that the economy is bouncing back from the bottom. Others will tell you that it's going to keep dropping... if not to pre-Gulf War levels, then at least to a tolerable $1.99 a gallon or so. Some people will tell you that this little drop in prices is just more corporate bullshit, funded by the Big 3 so as to get people buying SUVs again.
Cheap Gas won't tell you anything like that. All of the above is Speculative, and CG deals exclusively in cold, hard Fact.
Only the truly Silly Goose is getting gasoline on the Cape. If your local station's price drops, you can rest assured that it has dropped MORE over the bridges. All you have to do is go to Buzzards Bay or Wareham and see for yourself.
Now, I know what you're thinking.... why go to Wareham? Well... you can stop by The Helping Paw animal shelter on the Cranberry Highway and make a donation... say, maybe, the $5 or more that you'll save in gas visiting the Ham.
Need convincing? Peep the prix:
Sam's Gas, Speedy Mart and all the local Cumberland Farms stations in Wareham... $2.37
Don't want to drive that far? Lukoil, Wareham ($2.39), Maxi-Gas, $2.43, Hess Wareham (also $2.43) .. and avoid the Delsie's ($2.55) and Santuit Oil Citgo, clocking in at a ya-got-to-be-kidding-me $2.57
The worst near the bridge was $2.79 at the Citgo on 28A in Cataumet.
The Vineyard is currently rocking $3.19 a gallon, according to what I hear tell.
The best diesel that I saw was Sunoco Wareham at $3.19, Lukoil at $3.25, Delsie's and Monument Beach mobil at $3.45, and Santuit Oil disgracing themselves yet again with the region-high $3.59.
We'll be back again with our special Thanksgiving Travel Extravaganza. Until then... Pump Wisely, folks!

How Low can it go?
Christy drops to $2.79 cash, $2.89 credit
Sav-On lowers regular to $2.98
By Walter Brooks
When Christy's of Cape Cod lowered his price to $3.09/$3.19 last week we saw one of the longest series of comments on a blog since the McCowen trial, see post below this one.

Since some of our commenters don't know what a WHOOPIE PIE is, we reproduce Christy's online ad promoting them above.
But things got even more interesting last night as prices started dropping all over The Cape which has always seen higher prices than just over the canal.
On my drive to Hyannis for dinner last night (Alberto's, King Salmon with a sun dried tomatos in a Madeira wine sauce) I saw that the price for regular at the Sav-On station on Willow Street was $3.09, but by the time I drove home two hours later it had dropped to $2.99.
Back home I turned on my PC to see an email from Christy tipping me off to the fact that he was going to drop his prices this morning, but this most accessible politician-entrepreneur "doubled-down" and is now almost back to the price of a year ago, $2.89 if you use a credit card and $2.79 if you use cash.
Way to go, Christy - now let's hear from our favorite scold DemocRant who may still be asleep since he not only watched last night's debate, he wrote about it in this Blog this morning.
Christy lowers the price (again)
Christy's of Cape Cod selling regular for $3.09 cash, $3.19 with credit card

The new Christy's Mini-Mart on Route 28 in South Orleans is one of 12 locations on Cape Cod selling regular for $3.19 a gallon, and 10 cents a gallon less if buyers pay cash.
Christy Mihos lowered his price for regular grade gas again today.
It is now $3.19 if you pay by credit card and $3.09 if you pay by cash.
In addition, Christy's of Cape Cod is offering diesel at $3.59 which may be the lowest price on Cape Cod.
Reaction to super stores
Mihos, the owner of the Cape convenience store chain, came up with his new 10 cent a gallon discount after the supermarket giant Stop 'n Shop dropped a joint campaign last month which had received over a quarter million responses at the 12 local Christy locations.
That campaign's discount was shared between Stop 'n Shop and Christy's, but when the former dropped it on Sept. 18, Mihos said that he felt that the need was so great during these bad economic times that he should continue to offer something to local residents even if he had to shoulder the burden alone.
Who or what drove gas prices up?
Mr. Mihos also said in a comment below; "there is only one culprit in all of this--it was the petroleum speculators who drove the price from $60 per barrel up to $150 a barrel, never taking title to a drop of the product. we'll be at $65 next week and below $3 faster. not one of these culprits will do a moment in prison for putting our economy in a tailspin. Oil is a commidty that should never be traded as its a national security issue."
Bend over Cape Cod, here comes the gas man
Buzzards Bay OK, but Wareham will scare 'em
Why is gas so much cheaper just over the bridge?

These photos were taken late Sunday and early Monday in Buzzards Bay and Wareham. How can the gas distributors explain the obvious price gouging on Cape Cod.
Gas Lottery!!
Gather round the goodness...

Screw Gulf and their high prices... check this out....
Lukoil support the Onset Crime Watch lottery
The Onset Crime Watch/Community Saftey Partnership are using the old noodle in their fundraising efforts this summer. Rather than the typical cooler full of beer, they are giving out something more useful this summer.
The good people at Lukoil of Wareham have donated a fat $500 gas gift certificate to whoever wins the Onset Crime Watch lottery. You can play that out in diesel, regular, plus or premium. That's a lot of dead dinosaur, and your bids in the lottery go to a good cause... neighborhood safety.
You can buy tickets at their 211 Onset Avenue office, 1 for $5 or 3 for $10. You can also get them at the Lukoil station at 3199 Cranberry Highway in Wareham, but it pays to let the neighborhood crime watch people know that you're on their side, so buy them there.
The odds escape me at the moment, but I'm sure that they exceed the chances of someone giving you $500 for nothing, so why not try?
At these prices, you need all the help you can get.
Wareham Lukoil, $3.83
Cape Cod Gas, Buzzards Bay $3.83
XtraMart, Buzzards Bay, $3.85
7-11, Wareham, $3.86
Cumberland Farms, Wareham, $3.86
Sam's Gas, Wareham, $3.86
Santuit Oil, Bourne, $3.99
Looking At The Numbers Doesn't Calm Me Down Much

Average gas prices, with the USA as the blue line and Canada as the red line.
Gas was about $1.019 a gallon before the 9/11 attacks.

This one sort of speaks for itself, which is kind of the purpose with graphs.
Some numbers to chew, from About.com:
1.059: The average US price for a gallon of gas, December 2001.
2.845: The average US price for a gallon of gas, August 2006.
4.099: The average US price for a gallon of gas, July 2008
18.68: The average world price for a barrel of oil, January 2002.
66.45: The average world price for a barrel of oil, August 2006
125.10: The average world price for a barrel of oil, August 2008
1.1m : The number of barrels of oil per day in Iraq, August 2006.
3.5m : The number of barrels of oil per day in Iraq, before the March 2003 invasion.
670,000: The number of barrels of oil per day in Iraq, August 2008
I can't play the volume for this on the laptop I'm using, but the premise looks to be How Cheap Would Oil Be If India And China Were Suddenly Bombed Into Having A Pastoral Economy? "Pastoralization," or something spelled kinda like that, was one of the options on the table for post-WWII Germany in the Marshall Plan-preceding Morgenthau Plan, which was decidedly less popular with the Krauts.
Truckin'....
Times are tough, and the price of gas isn't helping any.
Some people get mad, some people vote Democrat, some people clean their rifle and get a job at a book depository, some people write songs:
Maybe it is George II's fault, or maybe it isn't. Maybe it's those greedy Arabs, maybe it's the Jews and their hold on big media, maybe it's the speculators, maybe it's the spineless, liberal Dems not letting us saw off the top of the Rockies for oil shale, maybe the GOP is the bought/owned bitch of Big Oil.... or maybe it's our fault, for not acting sooner/bitching harder.
Some people spend all their free time worrying about who to blame, but I don't have time for that kind of sh*t. You have to kill a lot of people to get to The Man, and I'm not really built for that kind of work... but that doesn't mean that I'll just sit here on my thumb while the Corporates eff you over.
Hells no. I have resources, motivation, and a forum. F**k those people.
Lots of truckers come up to me and say, "Yo, where's the cheapest diesel gas in the Buzzards Bay/Wareham area... or in the state itself, for that matter?" It happens all the friggin' time, actually.
I usually send them here: http://www.massachusettsgasprices.com/index.aspx?fuel=D
That site is a good one to bookmark, It updates a lot, and is as grassroots as it gets. What I am going to do so as to save you the bother of surfing that site is to isolate Cape Cod area diesel prices for my Mack daddies out there.
According to this site... the cheapest diesel gas on Cape Cod- and in the whole state, for that matter is (drumroll, please).......... LukOil in Wareham, at a relatively reasonable $4.79 a gallon. Other stations in this range Halifax, Lakeville, and Acton.
Granted, Wareham is more gateway than Cape Cod... but only a fool is filling up on the Sandy Spit these days, as a 20 cent or so Cape Tax is in full summertime effect. At $4.00+ a gallon, it's worth going off-Cape for.
Diesel prices elsewhere on Cape Cod...
$4.83, Gulf, Bourne
$4.93, Johnny's Tune and Lube, Falmouth, and Irving Gas, Sandwich
$4.94, Citgo, Sandwich, and Mobil, Sandwich Rd
$4. 99 Sunoco, Bourne
$5.09 Stop and Pump, Whitman
We have a rumor of $4.77 diesel in Middleboro, but we'll go with that we know for now.
Truckers are the road men for the Lords of Karma. You can f*ck with Joe Six Pack all you want... but when you lean on Daddy Mack and his rig full of Necessities, you may suddenly find yourself paying $9 a gallon for milk.
I'd rather just help the truckers out. No one else is going to. There's no reason to believe that McCain is any more honest than that Muslim the Dems are running, so the government, as usual, is good for two things: Jack, and Sh*t... and ol' Jack just left town, folks.
Gasoline has more than quadrupled since 9/11, and it has just about tripled from the time Bush landed that jet on the USS Mission Accomplished. If you think that the government will get us out of this, know that- out of the luxuries like gasoline, drugs (prescipt and non), tobacco and food that I consume regularly- only marijuana has maintained it's pre-Bush price.
In criminal times, only criminals get square deals. Other folks just have to read this column, and save some lira the old fashioned way.
