  • Bill Snowden's Blog
Bill Snowden created Hawks Wing Farm several years ago. The four acres is nestled in a pocket surrounded by 300 acres of Yarmouth conservation land. There is a 96-foot greenhouse and another 90-foot hoop house going up soon so the farm can grow organic produce year round! That’s the goal. A two-day event at the farm last August drew 150 visitors, who were allowed to camp out on the property.Bill is a native Cape Codder and one of the very first class presidents at the then-new Cape Cod Community College, and today serves on the Board of Health of Yarmouth. • Cape Cod Rock Hopper
My name is Stephen G. and I do not "live" on the Cape (except in my rose-covered dream cottage above), but I love the place even more because of that. I have been a summer visitor since 1965, and I am obsessed with Cape Cod as only a long-distance lover can be. Here again my family says I have a problem, that I need to be committed (to the Cape that is), because of my obsessiveness about it. I work in the health insurance industry because my family likes to eat and have a roof over their heads and I like to be able to pay for my vacations to the Cape. I am passionate about my art work and hope to make that my main job someday. Please let me know if you agree with the tales I tell, and also let me know if you do NOT agree.

  • Cheap Eats
Life is too cheap for short wine... It's "Not just Pheasant Under Glass" anymore on Cape Cod. As hard as it may seem on occasions, Cape Cod does have inexpensive, good places to eat without maxing out your credit cards. Since we eat out six nights a week, it is purely defensive for us to find some relief for an over-taxed palate.

We welcome submissions from our readers sent to wb@eCape.com.►Walter Brooks, Editor & Publisher►Maggie Kulbokas, Editor

He writes about the goings on in the Cape's second largest town and offers the perspective of one of the town's longest serving Selectmen. • A Garden in the Narrowlands
Well, look, Greg's just this guy, you know, pursuing happiness and choosing to bloom where he's planted. I am absolutely taken with the Natural World, and honored to participate in it as a gardener. (It's like the ultimate Sim Game) I'm also completely baffled by people who disrespect nature, like those who continually think the woods along our road is a great place to toss an empty coffee cup. Not that I'm not a coffee fan, but a little personal responsibility for the world around us is always nice.
  • A Summer in Time
Norman Goroshnik is a New Yorker in every sense and in every way, still retaining his New York accent in his 8th decade. Born and raised in Brooklyn to Russian heritage parents, he lived through the depression with wall to wall love. On a vacation to Craigville Beach in Centerville on Cape Cod in 1950 he met a wonderful girl. When he returned home he discovered that he had to write about it. Spending endless days at the Main Brooklyn library, he taught himself how to write, and he wrote a manuscript which has languished dusty on a shelf for over a half a century until the miracle of the Internet allows us to bring it to you - one chapter at a time.

After graduating from Amherst College, Bree worked in Italy over the summer and returned to Dallas in August, promising herself that she wouldn't stay long. She fulfilled that promise: on December 29th she packed her whole life into her little green Toyota and, despite a nasty oil leak, made her way across the country to her new home. True to her name, Bree Barton is a fan of both cheese and alliteration...preferably at the same time. Her previous writing is archived here. She also writes a blog for the Houston Chronicle.

  • Guest Blogger
"The latest, and perhaps gravest, challenge to the journalistic establishment is the blog. Journalists accuse bloggers of having lowered standards. But their real concern is less high-minded - it is the threat that bloggers, who are mostly amateurs, pose to professional journalists and their principal employers, the conventional news media." - Judge Richard Posner, NY Times, July 31, 2005. We welcome submissions from readers. Email them to the Editor.

  • Minutia
Fascination of the small things in life compels me and propels me. Being an American I guess I'm in contradiction for much of what the U.S. stands for, you know, the biggest and best and most of everything. Maybe it's because I am short. Anyway, the old adages/clichés: great things come in small packages, less is more, it's the little things that count, the simple life is the best life, etc., all ring true for me. It is my sincere hope that others begin to hear those same tiny bells. This is the official start of the minutia movement that hopefully others will embrace

  • Reflections on a Quarter-life Crisis
Tara Vaughn. I was born on the Cape, in Cape Cod Hospital 20 years ago. With changing opportunities and circumstances, my family and I moved all round Massachusetts but my mother and I ended up back on the Cape by the time I hit middle school. Now, I am a junior at Boston University studying Physical Therapy and public health, topics which just skim the list of my academic and non-academic interests. Currently, I am studying and working in Geneva in one of the BU study abroad programs. The program revolves around public health so, in addition to a little bit of French, and interning at the World Health Organization in the HIV/AIDS department. I think that with my experiences comes changing personality traits and with these come changing views on life and with these come changing experiences and the cycle continues.
  • Renewable Energy Revolution
"The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought... Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings." - John F. Kennedy

  • State of Cape Cod
Roger Savino is a retired teacher with over thirty years experience, twenty-three of them on the Cape. After vacationing here in the early fifties he returned often and decided it would be a good place to live. A job came along in 1974 and he and his wife moved here.     Their home town in northern New Jersey was crowded and lost in the sprawl of New York City. Cape Cod offered beautiful beaches, golf courses, friendly people, an easy life style, and space. There are, however, many of the same problems that exist everywhere; some major, others nearly insignificant. He intends to shed some light on those he finds particularly irksome and, hopefully, offer possible solutions.

  • The Cancer File
I’m a survivor of prostate cancer. Treatments commenced in 2003 and I decided to write columns about my experience while I was going through it. For that reason, the language in these columns is in the present tense, as if I were going through the same thing today The columns are being reproduced in the hope that they might in some way help men who are, or who may be, involved with this form of cancer that, if not detected early, can be a killer. – Robert Kelly

  • The People's Business
The People's Business is our version of Publick Occurrences, Both Foreign and Domestick, the first newspaper published in America in Boston on September 25, 1690. Publick Occurrences was brought to an end after only one issue by an outraged local government, claiming that it contained "reflections of a very high order." It was printed without authority, and an aroused bureaucracy issued a broadside warning against future publications of any kind without "licence [sic] first obtained from those appointed by the Government to grant the same." We hope to escape its fate and report to you matters of "the people's business" which might otherwise go unreported.

  • The Savvy Thrifter
If you've ever watched a talk show or read a fashion magazine, you've probably seen a  fashion feature called "Splurge versus Steal" in which the same outfit is created on various budgets.  Ironically, however, most of their "Steal" outfits cost hundreds of dollars, something that my middle class budget cannot afford.  Hence, it has become my mission to shop thrift stores and create cute, fashionable outfits that look like a splurge but are, in fact, a  budget friendly steal. Please comment here and tell me your experiences "thrifting", or email me here.  My archives are at The Savvy Thrifter.
