Hey UMASS Boy, stop living in the past. You act like you were the ONLY one that lived in the 80's. Who cares if the Red Sox are not likeable? Who won the World Series last year? Oh, yeah your non likeable Red Sox! Why did they win? Because they were the best team!

As exciting as it was to be there, it was also very sad to see that part P-Town on fire. I remember saying at the scene how calm the wind was, when usually there is always a breeze in P-Town.

No, umassjsp, she is actually a cheerleader for the Patriots, you know the football team you don't like.

andyg63, Thank you for the POSITIVE post. When someone calls 911 for help, whether it's a PD or FD matter, they are going to have someone there in within a few minutes. We have a diverse population now, compared to years ago. That alone has increased calls to the local PD & FD.
01/30/08 @ 4:34 pm
TR, You truly are POS. I mean that in the most possible way. I truly wish CCT would band this poster from further posts, please. I am all for open debate and humor in blogging. CCT please consider my request to band Thong_Rider, thank-you.
01/30/08 @ 9:51 am
Thong_Rider, More than one Cape town has more than 1 MANNED Firehouse. So, if you drive by 1 Firehouse, that doesn't mean the other Firehouse(s) are out on calls. Hey, I got an idea! Why don't you and Justme go buy a Scanner and listen to actually what happens here on the Cape!
01/30/08 @ 9:48 am
Justme, Provide us readers here, the facts on the runs Cape FD's do. I can tell you for a FACT the busiest mid-cape FD DOES NOT ASSIGN a RUN NUMBER for each piece of apparatus that responds to a single incident. If you get off of your arse and actually GO to the local FD's they can, I can't actually believe I have to say this, PROVE IT TO YOU THAT YOU ARE SOOOOO WRONG.
01/29/08 @ 8:38 pm
Justme, where do YOU get your facts? I will wager any dime you have that YFD for example does NOT generate 2 runs #'s for a minor MVC. When the town removed the Ambulance from Sta.3 last year (it is back now) yes 5-6 FF's responded 3 on a Engine and 2-3 on an Ambulance BUT generated 1 run. Why don't you pay them a visit so you will know the TRUE facts, instead of spreading FALSE information here?

You seem to know it all, BUT you are WAY OFF BASE here. So, what do you say, what to wager with me?
01/29/08 @ 8:10 pm
Just Me, The runs are divided up between what the FD responds to:
Fires - Building, Auto, Brush,
Ambulance Runs
Automatic Alarms
CO Calls
Hazmat Calls
Mutual Aid Fires
Mutual Aid Ambulance Runs
MVC's
Water Emergencies

Also, the CAD system auto generates the runs. Anytime you want to put your words to test, visit your local FD and they would be more than happy to show you how 911 is dispatched and how the calls are generating.
As jda0716, said what may NOT be an emergency for YOU maybe for someone else. So, as asked please define what an emegency is.

12/02/07 @ 9:20 am
Ted, first of all, I only posted to your statement which in my opinion was way out of line. To have you continue with further accusations only further discredits your character in my opinion.
12/01/07 @ 1:59 pm
So, Ted what do you have to say now?

DENNIS -- An Alzheimer's patient who was reported missing last night was found dead this morning after his car plunged into the water on the west side of Sesuit Harbor.

Edward Donovan, 78, of Lower County Road, West Dennis, was found inside his white Ford Focus around 10:30 this morning.

Donovan, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, had been reported missing after he did not arrive at an appointment in Brewster Friday night.

It appears Donovan may have gotten confused driving and steered his sedan off the town boat ramp before it plunged into the cold water, according to a Dennis police sergeant.

Donovan had recently seen his doctor and was approved to drive, police said.

A 911 caller reported seeing Donovan's car in the water at 10:30 a.m. today.

The Mid-Cape dive team was on the scene around 1 p.m. today helping a tow company pull the car from the water.

No foul play is suspected.

Yeah, Sophia, where exactly DID YOU get these stats. I have been in Public Safety for over 21 years and have not heard that. Does the Cape have a drug problem? Yes! Is Heroin CHEAP? Yes!
However you can't compare the Cape to area suchas New Beford, Fall River, Brockton, Boston where the Drug problem makes the Cape look small, so again where did you get this info. from?

Hey Crusader, first off I am not a COP. This blog is not about the CW case. Anywhere, USA has bad Cops whether it's a small rural town or some big city, GET OVER IT! The Police have not made the Cape the way it is now. If yo believe that then you need to check reality. Your 5 years here on the Cape make you very knowledgable about the Cape, huh? Gee, you must know the ins and outs about law enforcement, the good and the bad.

Also this crusader person seems to have a hard for corrupt Cops. Well maybe this crusader has ben on the wrong side of the law. He/She has no idea what it's like to be a Police Officer. In the 20 plus years I have been involved in Public Safety our job describtion has evloved to reflect today's society. Again, like I said before, the more you grow, the more problems you will and continue to have.

In response to: Cape Cod...the Ghetto?
Here is my take on the issue of the Cape. As with anything or anywhere that has significant growth comes "growing pains" and problems. I was bor in 1966 and in my 41 years here on the Cape, things have done a complete 360. I remember the 80's as my best years. Did we party and raise hell? Yes, but I would say it was more "controlled" and a bit more mature then. Did drugs exist? Of course, booze, sex, drugs, rock 'n roll. If kids got into fights they were settled with fists, not guns, knives, gangs, drive by shootings, etc. Also the Cape was more affordable with many summer residents, clubs to go to, carnivals, more attractions.

But as time has gone on the Cape has become this place either for the Rich or Low income. In my opinion there is really no place for the middle income. Clubs have closed, the towns make it very hard to open new businesses, teenagers do not work the jobs I did when I was a teenager. So, when you bring in such diversity to sustain life here and to survive, along come problems, such as drugs, violence, weapons, etc.
10/10/07 @ 1:04 pm
Wind, don't tell me to relax! This could have occured even after the child was OUT of school.

10/05/07 @ 5:56 pm
rap, nope!! Nice try though!!!!
10/05/07 @ 5:56 pm
Also mmany of the police cars are bought on county bid knocking the price down.
10/05/07 @ 5:37 pm
The Dodge Charger V6 appears to have a fleet (police) price of about $22,000; adding dual spots is another $175, and side airbags another $360, with rubber floor mats $70. The Charger was priced to compete well against the Crown Victoria/Police Interceptor and Chevy Impala, and is really quite a bargain considering braking and acceleration.
10/05/07 @ 5:32 pm
That would be a charger. How do know it wasn't bought through a grant? Maybe it's a demo donated from Plymouth/Mercury. Who are you to decide what they need for cruisers?

I corrected the pond...any idea what did happen?-TC
08/11/07 @ 8:46 am
No, but let's just say I am in the Field! :-)! Also a correction to my previous post, Med-Flight would land at the Barn. Aiport, not CCH (typing to fast).
08/11/07 @ 8:18 am
In regards to the Coast Guard flying, it is rare and usually happens on the islands.
08/11/07 @ 8:17 am
Thong, here is a basic scenario on how Med-Flight maybe called. Depending on the incident, that is key, the availability of Med-Flight is requested through Barnstable County Control WHILE enroute to the call. So, there is no time "wasted". Upon arrival at the scene the Paramedice will decide if Med-Flight is needed or not.

Also you must remember the town in which Med-Flight maybe calle for. Ground transportation let's say from P-Towm to CCH is an easy 45 plus minute ride. Where as if Med-Flight is available they onlt need to fly across Cape Cod Bay in 10-15 minutes an d be on the way to Boston. So, towns like Yamrouth, Hyannis, Dennis which have a shorter transport time to CCH may call for Med-Flight and have them land at CCH. When this happens, the pt. maybe brought to CCH intially to be further stablized and given further pain meds.

If at a MVC where the pt. is trapped and Med-Flight is requested and the the extrication time is going to be lenghty then they can land near the scene until the pt. is extricated.
08/10/07 @ 3:23 pm
It's very hard to be accrediated to be a Level 1 Trauma Center. You would need Trauma Surgeons around the clock on duty at CCH. Right now they can handle some trauma, and have the ability to have surgoens available "after" hours within a certain amount of required time. I believe CCH is rated either a Level 2 or 3 Trauma. Ufort. yes Med-Flight does not always fly due to weather mostly. It is nice when they due and they are available from Pymouth.
08/10/07 @ 1:46 pm
Thong, Med-Flight is used due to the fact that Cape Cod Hospital is NOT a level 1 Trauma Hospital. Depending on the severity of the injury Med-Flight can be called.
08/08/07 @ 10:03 pm
Just for the record, West Barnstable did NOT participate in today's live burn. Eastham brought their E-156 which is a CAFS system.

Umass, Great Post! The 1980's were the best here on the Cape for sure! I miss that era alot. I feel the Cape has lost alot of it's attraction due to the scrict town bylaw's and the anti-fun attitude that alot of people have including our town fathers who are suppose to represent us! If the Chamber of Commerce wants to increase the tourism and bring in more visitors then they have to approach the hotel chains such as Holiday Inn, Marriot, and others to help market the Cape. There only only a few of those scattered accross the Cape. In today's world of of the Internet when the average person searches for places to stay they are looking for brand names not for example, Gull Wing, Bayside, Heritage House, Town N Country, etc.

Franksgirldeb, I am sorry you feel that way, but I don't blame you at all. I have always been a Red Sox fan and I like the rivarly we have with the Yankees. I was brought up as I think of myself a good sportsman. When the game was over, shook hands and on to the next game whether you won or lost.

There is alot of imaturity with the original poster and don't feed into it. Just look at her other posts on other topics and that should explain alot.

Lighten Up Francis! I am a huge Red Sox fan. So what about the Yankees Hat! The point here is that the Cape, you know the place where we live, heavily depends on the tourism industry. Sure there are a..h... tourists just like there are a..h... residents, deal with it.

The Cape back in the late 70's and 80's was PACKED with tourists, not so much nowadays due to the economy and really the lack of things for families to do. Northern New England has over the past 15 years or so dumped all kinds of money t draw people up north and it's working. We need to change our attitudes here politically wise to draw more here. We all hate traffic, but the $ brings the better for the Cape.

04/20/07 @ 3:03 pm
Yarm. Taxpayer, you once again prove yourself on how vague you are the questions asked of you. You said YES the SP can mobilize as fast as the Regional Team. I for one don't know the time frame in the response. Howeever I do know that there are less State Police on our highways at any one time VS Town Police Officers. So, where are these SP "hiding" out that can get to a incident as fast as Town Officers? Also who are you to decide that this is a duplicate service? I don't understand. PLease answer the question of HAVE YOU SPOKEN WITH THE POLICE CHIEFS IN REGARDS TO REIMBURSEMENT?
04/19/07 @ 8:11 pm
whatthe, I am asking Taxpayer does he know how long it would take to get SP in place. I also realizr that they may speed to a call. BUT do we know how the call was dispatched? I think we should get back to the question here about the $$$. Responses to a call van be debated later. It just seems to me that the Taxpayer here seems to know alot so he/she says, so again I ask does the Taxpayer know the answers to the questions I asked before, that's all.

Now as far as asking them this Century, I really don't know where you are going with that. Are you saying that the SP does not agree with the Cape Team? Does the SP have people on the Cape readily available to respond to any town if needed?
04/19/07 @ 1:01 pm
Yarm. Taxpayer, here is my take on this. How long would it take to get the State Police's STOP Team in place? Why dont't you ask the Police Chiefs of Barnstable and Yarmouth about how the team is funded and of any reimursement takes place. I understand your frustrations, but you seem to rant on and on. Did you have a radar gun to clock the speed of this YPD Officer? Have you attended the Yarmouth of Barnstable Citizens Police Academy. You really seem to be out to get PUBLIC SAFETY PEOPLE! What gives?

Right, it was, the Barefoot Trader is now home to the Bass Outlet, and a Physical Therapy Center. They Gay Nineties is now Yarmouth Antiques. Also it was September's Rest. for ahwile and also a nightclub called Thunderbirds.

The Dunes was located on Rt.28 in West Yarmouth across from The Cove Resort, next to Timmy's Roast Beef. Speaking of Timmy's remember when it was a Dairy Queen and next door which is now Heavenly Pizza was once the A&W Rest.

Mercy, please answer the questions I asked before, instead of spouting off your vigilante statements. Also have you ever been told don't believe everything you read in the press? DO you really think these parents are actually looking at the consquences? What were these 2 kids doing out at 7 pm on News Years Eve? Who's paintball guns were they? Have you ever been shot at? What if the car those 10 year olds the car the theyn hit had elderly people in hit and had a heart attack from the stress of being shot at? I believe today's Kids are alot different than when "we" were kids. Sure, I partied just like others did. I have never smoked dope before, however I was guitly of underage drinking. But with the attitudes of today's kids, with the inexpensive costs of recreational drugs and the temptation to drive I believe the Kids in Falmouth should get a stern warning from the Judge and let it be shown that if they screw up again, then a record of their actions will be enforced.
