Sorry you won't consider the success of the European offshore wind industry as it does prove the significant benefits of generating electricity that way with real projects but OK we will put that aside.
After 5 major federal and state reports examining environmental and socio/economic impacts every one has concluded that the Cape Wind project will provide significant public interest benefits.
Here are some specific to Cape Wind- It will reduce CO2 emissions (a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change) equal to taking 175,000 roads off the road each year. It will provide 75% on average of the electrical needs of the Cape and islands with clean renewable energy.
This energy is being produced domestically, is inexhaustible and does not need to be imported from countries that we are either occupying or that hate us. Every megawatt of clean renewable energy that is produced offsets a fossil fuel generated megawatt of energy.
It will contribute towards the goals of the Commonwealth stated in the Global Warming Act the Green Communities Act and also generating 2000 megawatts of clean renewable energy by 2020. Without Cape Wind those goal will not be met. According to ISO New England (our grid managers) the Cape Wind project is important to diversifying our portfolio. We are heavily dependent on natural gas in this region and not only vunerable to supply interupptions but also price volatility. Cape Wind will be cost competitive and never cost more than traditional generation and in reality will drive the cost to the consumer down.
The pricing of the wholesale and retail markets are a bit complicated and for a clear explanation kindly visit www.cleanpowernow.org and read Chuck Kleekamps Op-Ed Wind Power Cuts Electricity Bill. And finally, the Cape Wind project will launch an entire industry right here in Massachusetts.
According to a US Department of Energy report 20% by 2030 a potential 56,000 megawatts of wind energy are available off the east coast of the US - that would translate into 30,000 jobs. We are talking manufacturing, building, operations, maintenance and many others.
There are 8000 parts to every turbine which translates into an enourmous supply train. Also consider the jobs at the deep water docks, the barges needed to be built in order to work the construction site and you get the picture.
We could capture this market and be exporters of wind energy turbines and the supply chain.

In response to: Worst recession in decades, Chamber opposes a billion-dollar project
The turbines will cause ferries to collide with each other & recreational vessels.
- The project will cause irreversible damage to the sea-bed.
- Massive numbers of bird kills will occur because of the project.
- The Coast Guard will not be able to rescue boaters in the area.
- The project will bring predatory fish species to the area.
- The project will not help reduce our dependence on foreign oil & fossil fuels.
- The project will not reduce the amount of pollution we breathe.
- And of course… My Favorite: You will be able to see the turbines from the airport rotary: You guessed it... Another ~LIE~.
No, I am not going to say the Dal’liance has lied, or unintentionally shared their benefactors offal affluent effluent with the uninformed, the gullible or even, well… Fibbed – Just a wee bit…
In response to: Worst recession in decades, Chamber opposes a billion-dollar project
The TALL tales of woe & destruction, the innuendo, the red-herrings, the misrepresentation, the fabrication, the incredulous lies such as:
- 75% of the Fish caught in ACK Sound are caught on Horseshoe Shoals.
- The fishing industry will be devastated.
- Pave Paws will be ineffective because of the turbines.
- Boaters radar will not work because of the turbines.
- The turbines will cause huge jelly-fish blooms.
- The public will be not allowed to boat in the area of the turbines.
- Marine mammals will be endangered & killed by the turbines.
- The project is a "Land Grab”.
- The project will use the public’s money to build it.
- We will pay more for our electricity because of CAPE WIND.
- The project will decimate the tourist industry.
- The project will not reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Real Estate values will plummet… Especially the McMansions!
