In response to: H2B or No H2B? That is the Question
Yes, it is a bad thing when young people have to leave because they can't afford to stay.
Those remaining, the rich and the retired, SHOULD pay more for the priviledge of having others work for them as a result. Instead, they seek or condone migrant workers during the time that they want to be here and to hell with anyone who wants to live here yearound.
I agree that no one has the right to be anywhere. But guess what? Employers do not have the right to hire migrant workers either. They only get to because we collectively allow them to. (Try hiring an illegal alien because you want to.)
That's what the H2B debate is all about. Why should we continue to allow businesses to hire foreign migrant workers if it is to our own detriment?

If the town's voters are disgusted with the ZBA antics then they will vote out their Town Councilors. Right?

I hope she wins her suit and we get rid of the ladies tees as a result. Then maybe most women will stop playing golf altogether and leave the course to the truly talented or just masocistic of their gender.
Can you imagine the fuss if a man sued to play in a womnen's tournament? Would he still have to play from the MENS tees or could he hit from the shorter ones too?
In response to: Vinick absconds without Gordon business plan
Cape Wind is not going to lower gas prices. Nothing will except maybe the wholesale takeover of OPEC by the US Military. But it will offer the morons at the Cape Light Compact the opportunity to buy Cape Wind's electricity at lower than market rates for all the rest of us. But you know this already.
BTW, I thought you said size doesn't matter.

I don't think she was abused. I think this was a crime of passion. The husband must have found out about her extra marital activity and went berserk. Too bad for him there isn't such a thing as a "mandated reporter" for infidelity?

Stop being distracted by what's going on in Nantucket Sound. The real theft of property took place a century ago on then beach. I say let's take back the shoreline. Where is Billy Bulger when we need him!
If the waterfronted gentry did not own the shoreline, they wouldn't think that they owned the view either.
In response to: How the rich get richer (and the poor taxpayers get poorer)
The manatee is right, we shouldn't be building houses so close to the water. But I'll go you one better. We shouldn't be allowed to own the shore either. It should be open to the public.

Unless of course John O'Brien lobbied for them too.
Jack, you've proven your worth to this devate over and over again. Thank you.
In response to: Cape Cod Chamber ad scares away visitors
John O'Brien, a lobbyist? He gets the Chamber money from the state to bring visitors to the Cape ostensibly to create jobs (at the Chamber). He gets the Alliance to spend their money to keep them both away. The only thing O'Brien lobbies for is himself.
And don't forget he works for the APCC for free to prevent those of us who live here from flushing the toilet.
No wonder he always looks constipated.

In response to: Cape Cod is Our Disneyland
At best they are making unsubstantiated statements and abusing their position.
If the Steamship Authority is afraid that they will run into a turbine, we all have a bigger problem than we think. They would first run aground, which they are actually prone to do.
The Barnstable Airport Commission warnings not only were not taken seriously by the FAA, but totally disreguarded by Cape Air, the primary carrier affected by the wind farm.
Tell me this, why do these tax credits, which you refer to as tax subsidies, even exist? And why do you approve of their use in every other location except Nantucket Sound?
Were you quoting Bill Koch as an expert? Does it matter to you that he was charged with beating his wife and child, when they were living in Osterville? Never mind.
And by the way, are you an expert when you refer to the Sound as the Jewel of the Cape and Islands. Don't you have to be from the Cape or the Islands to be an expert on that?
In response to: Cape Cod is Our Disneyland
Do you know how many birds are killed every year by the BIG DIG?
The $1B Cape Wind project will be built with private money. No public dough. No pork. No patronage. It is therefore more likely to work.
Do you care that Christy built his stores with private money? Do you worry that they will create traffic, pollute the goundwater, charge too much for gas or milk, or will fail? Of course not.
Cape Wind will not only be profitable for their investors, but will pay royalties to US taxpayers, provide cheaper rates to their customers, and leave us all with cleaner air to breathe.
And unlike the BIG DIG, it's not likely to kill anyone either.

In response to: Are we in Selma Alabama or Sandwich Massachusetts?
These aren't rednecks from the south, they're hockey moms from the north. Religious prejudices abound in every region. Baptists in the south, Catholics in the north.
