Is there any purpose in the last two thirds of this piece of rubbish? What in God's name does the reaction of the Brazilian community (about a lawful incident) have to do with a life saving award being given to a group of well deserved Yarmouth Officers?

This police bashing in the local media that has been going on for the last few months has got to stop. These brave men and women are out 24 hours a day risking their lives in order to protect us and THIS is the way we repay them? By dragging their good names over the coals in an effort to sell a newspaper or get an on-line reader?

I understand that this reporter used to work for the Cape Cod Times which would explain a lot of the shameless bias.

However, let me assure you Mr. Kinsella, while you may think that people in the area are supportive of yours (and others) needless attacks on Officer VanNess, I can assure you they are not.

Before you loose the last of your credibility, I would strongly suggest you start treating these people as equally as they have been treating you.

If you want to launch cheap attacks, do it elsewhere.

franny,

I never used the words "they all suck"...you did…and how do you know what I do for a living?

Anyway, I see how your post has laid out all of the "facts" so eloquently. Boy you sure got me (I think we know who the prize is).

Don't you have a lower cape part time call-dispatcher position to work or something?
01/29/08 @ 10:54 pm
Sorry...I didn't mean to get all the call firefighters here in a tizzy over my posts.

Clearly some of you know nothing about what you’re talking about so you're just sounding off to try to make yourself seem important.

Anyway, I don't need any help with the "facts" as I already know what they are. In my community, calls for service are issued as each piece of equipment is dispatched.

The bottom line here is that I can understand why the number of calls is padded. It would simply be bad business if a department didn't make themselves seem as busy as possible in an effort to justify their budgets etc...

However, anyone who is throwing out that number as if it's the actual number of calls the department is handling dosen’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

As far as the rest of the comments, they don't even deserve a response.

Don't some of you have scanners to be listening to?

Sure...I'll define them.

Minor car accident where nobody's hurt. Rescue and a fire truck show up. (2) calls for service issued..6 guys standing arround..

Elderly person needs a ride to hospital for a minor problem. Calls FD. Rescue and a fire truck show up. (2) calls for service...6 men

Small campfire on beach by summer tourists. A whole gaggle of FD personel show up. Multiple calls for service.

Should I keep going?

Most FD's issue a seperate call for service for each peice of equipment that is dispatched. As you can see, this heavily skews the numbers. If your sending out a Fire Turck with Rescue to each call...that dubles your numbers right off the bat.

Of course, with all that backfilling in overtime happening, it's not hard to see why so much personel and equipment is sent out to every call.

Talk about fluff! 6000 calls..? Where do you get that number?

Check out the Town reports for a breakdown of what the calls actually are. I would say you could easily get rid of more than half of them as padding the stats.

A VERY small percentage of the calls are actually emergencys or fires.

Don't be fooled. They're not that busy...oh wait its budget time...Oh my god..they're swamped with calls.

Get these guys more men, money and equuipment!

It is when you make it by selling drugs. I would guess that money now belongs to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The powder is probably used in drug sales/packaging

I think a good place to start is looking at the people we elect both statewide and locally. The question is really best suited for them.

Why do we just slap repeat criminals on the wrist? Why don't we send a clear message that repeat offenders go to jail in this County? Or that the court means business when it comes to crime in our community.

All you have to do is read the court report. Guilty but suspended sentence, COWF (continued without a finding), pre-trial probation, dismissed on payment of $50 court costs..it goes on and on. I think if someone gathered up the sentencing statistics of our local courts people would be shocked.

I posted previously that you should spend some time in courtroom and watch what goes on but there is an easier way. Take a look in the lobby at people waiting to go into court. Most are dressed in baggy jeans, sweatshirts, dirty clothes, sneakers baseball caps or worse!

I think this is very demonstrative of how little respect for the court there is by the very people counting on its leniency.

Crusader,

You’re kidding...right?

The reason he isn't in jail is that the court system on Cape Cod RARELY puts offenders in jail (by rarely I mean almost never). There is absolutely no deterrent for those who commit crime because they can be almost certain that they will see no jail time. Don't believe me?..go sit in court in Barnstable for a day and watch them walk in...and right back out..over and over again. I don’t mean first time offenders. I mean people with many many previous arrests.

...or who the State Cops are...
04/19/07 @ 8:32 pm
It's hard to take Yarm. Tax's comments seriously. He is so anti-Yarmouth Police. (Which is surprising as I hear his son is a State Cop...sort of telling?).

Anyway, I think most of his posts are intended to try to get people all worked up into a frenzy rather than a genuine discussion of the issues.

I (for one) am extremely proud of our Town's police department and the excellent service the men and women provide the community.
