That incident at Cape Cod Tech was orchestrated by a couple of parents and the CC Times collaborating with Facebook. And it wasn't 400, it was more like 150. Slow news day so the Times assisted in creating a story for themselves. Press was there like it was written in their appointment book. Lets see how much milk they can get out of it.

Been there-done that. I've been on roads out in the middle of no where with just myself and desolation. I hitch hiked across the country several times in the early 70s. Good thing you chose not to get the kilo, it could have brought real trouble your way. I went to Northern CA from the midwest in '76 and stayed there for 18 years. It changed a lot in that time. Came here is '93 and there's no going back. It took many years to realize it, but I'll take the Eqast Coast over the West anyday.

Funny how my post about the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood got deleted. It wasn't like it was off topic. If you investigated you would find that Baby Einstein was pulled by Disney because of false advertising claims and pressure from concerned parents from all over the country. If you looked into these issues Mr. Mom you would find that advertising to children outside of the sphere of influence of the parents is no less than indoctrination and attempted mind control. Keep in mind advertisers spend billions in trying to circumvent parents and perpetuate the nag factor. Bus Radio met the same fate recently. Do some research about how insidious some of this stuff is or I guess you can delete me again, but perhaps you should take it up with Mrs. Mom.

The group that brought that suit is the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood. Disney is a pimp, a snake wrapped in an innocent's clothing. The CCFC is fighting an uphill battle with advertisers in an attempt to prohibit advertising to children 8 years old and under like it is in most of the civilized world. See their link, it's a great organization. http://www.commercialexploitation.org/

Wow... nasty bit there. For those who don't know, a good rule of thumb is to not say anything personal to someone on a blog that you wouldn't say to them in person.

Richard: I agree with a lot you write, but I always cringe a bit when you place the blame squarely on the GOP. Though it certainly takes the lion's share in a lot of things it can't be forgotten that when there's money to be made in various states by the manufacturing of weapons for the military the Dems are right there gobbling pork at the through. Same thing with both these wars, there was no shortage of dems not wishing to appear unpatriotic when supporting the Bush administration in it's fiasco of a foreign policy. Probably the worst decision ever made in foreign policy was to invade Iraq. And now, as Powell said, "You break it you fix it." What a mess, I just heard 8 more soldiers died in Afghanistan today on top of 14 yesterday. Seems like all the made in China "Support Our Troops" car magnets have faded and fallen off the many vehicles I saw them on back in 2003. America is becoming a sadder and sadder place.

I watched that video of those dopes "annointing" that doorway. I mean... creepy f___s. That congressmen from Georgia, like pissing on someone else's territory. These people have more in common with practitioners of witchcraft than Christianity. Wack jobs... And what is with the lax security at the inauguration?

Well more than likely Ned, as long as the program has a local sponsor it is allowed under cable access rules. We have a lot of religious programming on Lower Cape TV, but I believe all of it is local churches. Every once in a while a mid Cape church will bring something in, but no nationals.

People at the Banner must be geting nervous at this point. Almost everything in it is repeated word for word in the Cape Codder, so it would seem likely that would be where the next cuts would come from. I think the Cape Codder is a good paper, especially since they operate with a skeleton staff. As far as it being a gipper thing, a little then maybe, but consolidation took off for the stratoshpere in the 90s.

In response to: Questioning Memorial Day
More than anything the people who sacrifice do it for their comrades in arms. It has been that way for 10,000 years. The powerful elites all over the world from time immemorial sacrifice nothing and think they're entitled to everything. The inbred monarchies gave way to the inbred families of the industrialists and the results are the same. Until people all over the world turn on their masters who have divided them so effectively through economics, bigotry, and religion, the trend will continue. See the big picture. Once the wars are over and Memorial Day flags are folded no one sees the damaged veterans in the streets, homeless,or lives ruined. "Let's go to Disneyland!" Afterall entertainment takes your mind off things you don't want to think about. The status quo sucks, people (not folks) WAKE UP!

To hell with Misksh and his lousy roomates. You want to hear a sad story you should hear Tim's. He was a lost man and alone in the world. He helped my wife put up Xmas lights outside the condo we used to live in and worked at the gas station down the street. He was fine, then his parents died, the only people he had in the world, his roomates were ripping him off, doping him up and taking advantage of him. They were dealing drugs out of that condo. We as neighbors called the P-town PD AND THEY DIDN"T CALL US BACK! Two weeks later that sad young man was dead. We moved away. Don't go feeling sorry for the killer. The victim's story was extremely tragic.

Exceptional piece! I'm from CA and I remember Ronnie Ray Guns. I never knew he began his campaign in Philly, Miss. Totally figures though. I always dispised what he stood for and acting like a leader. And dubya wasn't/didn't even have to be a good actor. You saw the ugliness bubbling to the surface leading up to the election, a mob mentality creeping in, openly sneering "community organizer" at the GOP convention. Even McCain seemed to be getting genuinely freaked out at the can of whup ass being opened up at his rallies. "I'm Mad!" ya got that right.

It's too bad but those horses are already out of the barn. These problems should have been moved on twenty years ago. Our kid and all but one of his friends have gone, graduating from college this year. What really kills me about the cape is that compared to a lot of places the taxes are extremely low, especially when you consider second home owners, yet Cape towns seem to insist that schools be cut to the bone. And local communities as a whole are not all that welcoming to the local youth. The day will come when we (my wife and I) leave here as well, as when a community has lost its youth factor, it's lost it's heart.

I know a family who recently "pulled the plug." The two kids went into a kind of withdrawal, then complained for about four or five days. Shortly after that they were going out to play and living without it quite well.

How long before something is actually done about healthcare in this country? It is breaking the back of our economy in general and now it seems we'll be at each other's throats about it in the current crisis. Although I agree that union locals could step up a bit more in this situation, the fact remains that just because a lot of people don't have healthcare and pensions doesn't justify the few that do to have to give that up. Of course then there's those Masters of the Universe who get billion dollar bonuses just because they're so good. BTW - When is someone going to jail?

I meant my wife in P-town as well. Oddly enough it was in the late 90s. We were married in 2005 then moved to Eastham. It was a minor miracle then, I think I may have been one of the last straight single men in that town. Good luck. Now on with part 2 please.

No worries for the yuppy crowd. We have a TJ Max in Orleans with a huge parking lot you could hang around in. Personally I hate it when people in Gap attire harrass me with religious leaflets. I get scared that they'll try to talk to me too.

In response to: The Memorial Day That Used To Be
I too believe that it is a personal thing to remember sacrifice. Every day I hear of another 5 soldiers killed I mourn all who are dying on the alter of the current corpacracy that is worldwide. I may be a bit left of center, but people in my family fought in wars as well. Norman Rockwell's America is gone, that is if you believe it ever actually existed. I noticed that the little car magnets and flags are disappearing now. It's on to what the American public does best - shopping and consuming. Sacrifice is not having the closest parking space to the mall.

The stores in the mall are what give me the creeps. Best Buy - a cocophany of electronic gizmos of all shapes and sizes, bohemoth TV screens with creepy images on them. Rows and rows in various stores of useless cheap and not so cheap crap destined for the landfill inside of 18 months. And especially what is more obnoxious that any teenager is the constant upselling of everything and requests for all kinds of personal info after purchasing a $5 item. I go there like twice every five years and only if I have to.
