In response to: Unemployment soars, and so do salaries at HAC
Just for record, I made more than 5 calls to HAC between last Thursday 5/14 and Wednesday 5/20 (each time explained who I was, where from, and why I was calling.) I was told to send an email that would be forwarded to Mr. Presbrey and he would respond either via email or phone--neither happened. Both annual reports and guidestar were helpful and informative investigative tools used, however, getting insight and details from the CEO, VP, or anyone at HAC for that matter would have proved far more helpful and worked to build a stronger and more substantiated piece--I agree.

Thank you for reading despite your harsh statements about my reporting--snowleopard and jee. It's tough to write a story when your subject does not cooperate.

wow this reminds me of, well, me! My first car was double my age. Yep, I had a '72 Dodge Coronet in pea green, inside and out, and it was "an excellent, reliable car, a classic!" according to my dad. Let's just say, it was none of the above. But it was fun and got me to where I needed to go for 4 years (maybe not always back, but usually got me there). I've since updated and upgraded to a '97 Honda. Good luck with your Honda Bree.

i agree with mammaj... it's crazy to think that at 13 you can make such a decision. i know what i was doing at 13 and it was worlds away from dealing with drug dealers. my twin brothers are 14 and they are not the most perfect kids, but their biggest problems lately have been trying to pass science class because they hate doing homework. i hear the crap that happens in junior high and it scares me to death. i wasn't there that long ago but it's VERY different now. it's unbelievable, but it is what it is and you can't look at the situation in bewilderment. something needs to come from this and a deeper investigation is obviously needed. motives? bribing the 13 year olds? and after they turn 18 (or 21) and are let off... what happens then? how can we be proactive now...

Verizon,

just wondering, do you ever read the ny times online? probably not, as cctoday is far better. BUT if you ever have, you may have noticed that with every new bit of updated info, the story will change! It's remarkably GOOD journalism to keep your stories accurate and post the latest info-- there's breaking news all the time on cctoday, so what a great feature to have. Some communication studies have even found that this new online journalism is better than traditional because each story is like a draft; always changing, always being updated, which means constant breaking news for the reader like YOU! It's a wonderful thing.

Jobuli, By the way, I think this conversation is simply fabulous, regardless of your petty criticisms.

Teaticket,

sounds as though this here blog HAS stimulated much of a conversation! Whadya know?! Whether or not these commenters appreciate all the work that cctoday does or not, they're all still here reading-- and clearly REreading-- this post and its comments, which gives cctoday more hits. Keep up the good work! Making YOU talk is what THEY are here for :) Cheers!

Well since I've got such an audience and you are all so invested in this whole soccer bit I thought you might actually want to play next season. So I think I might do a little free advertising/PR for the league here. We're hoping to get 2 more teams for next year (DY and Sandwich) and hopefully also get a waiver allowing 16 year olds too! So stay tuned... and I will try my darnedest to present only the FACTS when advertising. It's kind of like blogging 100% objectively and being an honest politician... ya know, they all go hand in hand.

Now you all may not have noticed, but this here Cape 20-Something is called a BLOG and not the sports section of the NY Times of even just the Falmouth Enterprise (however I did help Rich do the write ups there- rather objective if you take a look). Some silly person asked what I learned at school... well for one, I learned that these weblogs (if you will) are meant for personal reflections/expressions so there is no obligation for these game summaries to be at all objective... they're rather satirical and comical if I might say so. If you check out the hundred or so other blogs on cctoday you will find very similar uses. Bloggers are not held to the same standards or code of ethics as a traditional reporter by any means. [This is why I am a CONTEMPORARY journalsm major btw.]

My sole intention is to attract readers and since you're all reading & have negative comments to make then I have certainly attained my goal here :) So I thank you all and look forward to hearing more... read on!

Thank you, Peter, for your kind words of wisdom. I was waiting with baited breath for a comment like this from some jerk. Shocked I had to wait longer than a couple of hours. In any case , my brother was (as I had mentioned in the article) 17 and a nark had been in school for months keeping track of dozens of kids. My brother, who I never ever said was a "dear sweet" boy was not dealing, but was charged with possession. My proposal does not excuse drug use or dealing at all; in fact, the drug courts that you mentioned are a form of treatment that I also support.

You're exactly right; the math is fairly simple: incarcerating drug offenders does not stop the problem, treatment will.

In response to: You might be in Falmouth if....
You know you're from Falmouth... if you know you once were could walk indoors from end to end in the Falmouth Mall (get your ears pierced at Claire's, buy some sneaks at Foot Locker, and even a get a nice toy at Bradlees)... if you remember after Stop & Shop but before Staples sat Bed Bath & Beyond and you used to get dragged through the store with your mother... if you can attest to the "old" Peking Palace being way better than this one (you have to actually ASK for tea and pineapple chunks with your fortune cookie now!)... if you know that "going downtown" after school means walking Main Street aimlessly seeking out trouble...

In response to: Perfect Pats*
umass thank you for the additional irrelevant info about seasons past, you must be one of those whiney complainers i was talking about.

oh, and this just in... tom brady is not an "absentee father" and would that really have anything at all to do with the Pats being an amazing football team?

Yep, the Nickelodeon is still up and running, but it's a chain now too. It's a Regal Cinema just like everywhere else.
