If you're off West Dennis Beach hanging on to your capsized sunfish with your 6-year-old child as the sun sets, I am sure you would love to know that the regional rescue boat was on the way -- trailered in from Bourne or Barnstable.

Peter,
In your report you mention that the vote for the project was 10-3. Three people actually voted against it?! Would love to know why...any clues?

Thanks, Monponsett, for your well-written, no-nonsense elucidation of the effects of an LNG disaster on Cape Cod and Boston.

Solon, for such a bright guy that's a pretty vacuous reply.

Solon, you have your blinders on. How you can read the comments above and tell Christy he was not personally insulted is beyond belief. So you think that calling for a boycott of businesses that have an opinion different than yours is a high-minded approach to the debate? Telling Christy not to fear the boycott because people probably won't change their behavior is like telling someone not to worry when they are being shot at because the shooter will probably miss. The intent is there. As for the boycott, it is incredibly puerile.

Read what it says above in "About this Blog": "Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought..." Those who advocate shunning the businesses who are on the "wrong" side of the wind farm issue are luxuriating in the comfort of their opinion, shrinking from the discomfort of thought.

What next for you Cape Wind advocates? This display of arrogance borders on the fascistic. Free speech terrifies you, doesn't it?

"Cape Wind's turbines will combat global warming..." Give me a break. And tell me about what happens to the rosy financials during a heat wave in August when there is little to no wind.

You can believe that if the wind farm were identified as a Republican effort all these environmental "advocates" would be dead set against it. Tell me what we do in ten years when the wind farm is obsolete and broken because the developer didn't maintain it. I can't see the Sound from where I live and I don't think we should trash it for the benefit of a few corporate elites.

In response to: Crowes Pasture - A Hidden Gem in Dennis
With all due respect, the comment "Crowes Pasture is a beach area only accessible by four wheel drive..." is absurd. I have walked to Crowes Pasture a hundred times in my life, both from Cold Storage Beach to the west and from the parking area just off the paved road. I wish more people would walk and fewer would drive. Might make the area last a little longer. Nice article, otherwise.

It is unfortunate that Monponsett characterizes the citizens who came forward as "snitches." I wonder if her house was burned to the ground and she had some evidence to help take the arsonist off the streets -- would she consider herself a snitch?

This description of illegal immigrants is priceless:

"They are mostly residents of other countries who, prior to coming to America, lacked the education to understand concepts like "legal immigration," and "illegal immigration."

So illegal immigrants are "mostly residents of other countries." Does that mean that they are partially residents of other countries, almost but not quite residents? Or does it mean that most illegal immigrants are residents of other countries. By definition, it would seem that all illegal immigrants are or were residents of other countries. On the other hand, since they reside here now, then all illegal immigrants are residents of this country.

Aaron continues: "prior to coming to America,[illegal immigrants] lacked the education to understand concepts like "legal immigration," and "illegal immigration."

That's not giving these upstanding, hard-working, God-fearing people much credit, is it?

When they hand over their life savings to a "coyote" to smuggle them over the border, they don't know the difference between legal and illegal. Aaron, get real!

In response to: Dennis Yarmouth FD Bench War becomes Bench Peace
Someone please help me out here. Does this character called thong_rider really believe that this story is true? That two benches gave birth to baby benches? And that a fireman used a thermal imaging camera to search for them? And then Santa came to collect them? Color me silly but what's up with this dude or dudette? Perhaps the thong is cutting off oxygen to the brain...

It never fails to amaze me how quickly the commentary devolves into lewdness, personal attacks and vituperation, pushing out the possibility for observations on the skill/technology/methodology of the public safety personnel featured on this blog. Where is the display of dignity and sensitivity to the human suffering and tragedy implicit in these incidents?

Lt. Kenney in Hyannis tells of a similar event they had to deal with. He says they had to cut the filler tube off the tank in order to get the finger out. Dangerous work.

I find it curious that there has been no coverage that I could see in the online mainstream media on the Trotting Park Road crash. I took pictures of the truck at the DPD impound. Incredible damage. I also spoke with the home owner of the affected property who stated that only a large oak tree and two vehicles (one a Jeep Cherokee -- both vehicles were totaled) prevented the speeding truck from hitting the house. I have heard that the truck might have been going well in excess of 80 MPH headed south on the road, scarcely 200 yards from the intersection of Route 28 when it failed to negotiate a curve. There were no skid marks. The homeowner reported that the injuries to the three occupants were devastating.
06/17/07 @ 6:56 pm
The truck accident with 3 injured Saturday night June 16 in West Dennis was on Trotting Park Road south of Route 28, not on Route 28 where the pedestrian was hit last week. Thanks.

Your map and aerial photo on the hit-and-run in West Dennis are wrong. You are showing the south end of Trotting Park at Lower County Road.
