Actually, J.madden I believe we celebrate it appropriately, with the music, ceremony, uniforms, gun salute and speaches. Who better to speak for the dead than those who served with them? Mary is the voice of these fallen heroes? In my mind this is not a fair point. As far as holding a peace sign on a rte 6 bridge goes. What exactly does that accomplish?
Honoring fallen veterans on Memorial Day the way we do does nothing, but a sign over rte 6 really makes a statement?
In my service in the US Marine Corps I was a part of many ceremonies honoring those who served this great nation. I have seen flags folded and delivered to wives, husbands, fathers and mothers. I have heard the rifle volleys and have played the solemn notes of Taps. I have spoken with grieving widows who are thankful for the honors their loved ones deserved. These are humbling experiences and in my opinion very much appropriate. To question war and why we fight it is valid and should be open to debate on all levels. I don't read this column that way. Sorry!

An interesting viewpoint from Mary. I for one could not disagree more. Memorial Day is and should always be a day to remember those who have passed in the service of their country.(a small token of appreciation BTW!) Not necessarily in war. Noone "likes" to fight but there are some of us who believe that someone MUST know how. These brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, I believe, would look at their service and be proud that people like Mary still have the freedom to write, say, or blog anything they want. This is something she has left out of this column. Maybe go down to Arlington National Cemetary Mary and let everyone know that all those who have fallen that are buried there have died for nothing. While you fight for "no nukes" and "fair taxes" and you fight to try and win an election to congress ALWAYS remember, this would not be possible without those willing to stand up and FIGHT for those freedoms. One day out of 365 to remember the dead with ceremony and pause is and never will be a time for conjecture, but a time of GREAT thanks and appreciation.

Thank you Rep Perry for your stance on this issue. Rep Turner told me he recieved Emails 2 to 1 in favor of raising taxes including the sales tax. I don't know who these people are but I'd like to hear from them! I have yet to hear any support from citizens on this issue. Only politicians.

actually, since you asked. the engine was returning from a call and came upon the vehicle, stopped to make sure there was no accident or help needed, and due to the intersection and a possible traffic hazard the engine notified the police and waited for them to arrive. Its called public service!!! Man, complain complain. If it was you and the engine kept going you'd be saying "why didn't they stop to see if I needed any help?" I guess doing the right thing isn't good enough!!!

actually Buzz an MCI or Mass Casualty Incident can be declared whenever there are more victims than your own resources can handle, usually over 4 or 5!! this declaration sets into motion resources, etc... in a very prompt efficient way. always a good idea when there is an incident when many ambulances are needed and there are multiple pt's.
