Regardless of your opinions stop the personal attacks or I will close the thread-TC

I doubt it was medflight with the thunderstorms around...maybe the coast guard? could be a medevac from them? I'm monitoring and hear no major incidents at this time-TC

Enough with the back and forth personal attacks...this thread is closed-TC

Thank you for taking the time to write in Mr. Hemsley. We are all glad the ordeal ended happily. It was nice on our end to report such a good outcome. Its something we all too seldom get to do. Be well-Tim/CWN

I knew this would be a lengthy diatribe so I sat back for a bit...now my two cents. As the reporter on the scene I can attest without grossing you out that the woman had serious injuries that needed reconstructive surgery. The paramedic was able to determine a plastic surgeon was not available at CCH so the decision was made to fly her. Many times what may seem like a minor problem may require specialized treatment only available in Boston. I daresay if this was your friend or relative you'd want the best possible care. As to Medflight cancellations it has nothing to do with pilot breaks. They have a rigid standard of weather conditions that dictate whether they can fly. Any fog or storm between them and you and they can't come. Its a safety issue. In a critical condition in bad weather the USCG can be requested and often does medevac out of the islands during such conditions. These paramedics are out there day ofter day dealing with all sorts of unimaginable medical situations and if my time comes I would trust them without question for care and deciding if I need to be flown-TC

They did apparently release that fact that I chose to omit from my copy. I apologize for someone being overzealous-TC
07/13/08 @ 5:17 pm
First I've heard of this and no one else has anything either. Do you have any further details? TC
07/05/08 @ 7:55 am
Don't know about the motorcycle but Eastham responded to several calls including a possible structure fire that turned out to be a large illegal fireworks display. There was also a steady stream of ambulances with various medical calls coming out of Provincetown headed toward CCH. TC

If you look again you will see this story was submitted by one of our reporters, not "ripped off" the scanner. CWN makes every effort to be accurate. Mistakes will occur and we correct them as soon as they are brought to our attention. As for other media outlets if they are "ripping" from us without checking the facts themselves we cannot control that and clearly state that they shouldn't do it. The victim was not identified in this case so I don't see how there can be any HIPPA violation. The times when we do identify victims it comes from official sources such as police. While reporting what the public wants and has a right to know, CWN has always strived to show compassion to the victims.
06/13/08 @ 8:53 am
By "TC" she means ME the CWN editor.

By Sea St I assume you mean Nautical Way. Our reported responded but had to stay out on Sea St for safety reasons (recommended by BPD) and could not get any usuable shot. Personal safety is always paramount for the CWN news team. As for the CVS the Yarmouth guy did not hear the call at first and it was too late when he got there-we can't get them all but I think we do quite a job trying
Thanks-TC

I take the Ptown pictures and yes I do monitor the crowd very carefully. Thanks for the reminder/suggestion.
As for the login problem I think it takes you to the most recent posts. To get all the CWN stuff just click on police/fire news (it's in the fly-out menu on tiopo named "News/Features") or check with CCToday for more help
Probably won't hear much on EES as the report said he/she is a juvenile and police were not offering any further details-TC

I may be going blind but I don't see any blood on his head and there was no mention of a head injury. If there had been it would have been bandaged. As for the face at that angle I can't tell who he was. We always try to be respectful. I've seen much more graphic stuff on the evening news-TC

Not sure what the problem is here...there's no gratuitious blood that I can see. Its in a public place showing victim being rolled onto a backboard. There was a severe arm injury but no head trauma reported...if it bothers people that much I'll take it down but not sure what the problem is-TC
09/12/07 @ 5:08 am

Actually its a matter of which departments will talk to CWN. We're constantly working to improve our relationship with area departments. I'm working on an update for the robbery...and several people at CWN continue to reach out to Barnstable PD management to be able to get information from there...its a process-TC

Point appreciated...BTW the BK person is 19-years old and the "shades" actually obscure her identity but as I suspect your email means you work for Fox 25 I would think you know the law...just a small guy like me isn't apt to be as legally protected as a major TV station-TC

Which kid in brace? I don't think you can see his face. By juvenile I mean arrests. I had negative feedback about a woman victim of an accident (not at fault) being treated by a medic. Someone thought we should have blurred her face.
Buzz/foxbos can you email me direct? I'd like to discuss this further

In response to: Pedestrian airlifted after struck by vehicle
If were not sure who the person is, in this case our reporter was not certain if that was the driver and/or whether the driver was at fault then we'll protect identity. Other expamples would be juveniles or people not arrested or at fault, undercover officers etc. This has been done in part due to feedback from readers and in part to limit any possible liability. As for the guy I think he's getting ready to drive the car out of the way not firing anything that I know of-TC
06/20/07 @ 7:34 am
Finally on Wednesday some information (see column)
06/19/07 @ 5:27 pm
I was curious about that too...especially since CWN broke the story...and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see many times the "other guys" see it here first and then report it. I'm gonna inquire again with a couple of sources-TC
06/19/07 @ 7:47 am
Have not heard any further on that crash...TC
06/17/07 @ 10:21 pm

I corrected that story...Thelman is still wanted...

on the Yarmouth story the Special Response Unit (sorta like a SWAT unit) goes where needed and when needed and I believe the requesting agency pays the expenses.

Lets not pick on my photographers...they are gracious enough to work in difficult conditions to capture the dramtic scenes that appear in CWN.

derfrel, thank you for your comments and welcome aboard the fastest growing news blog on Cape Cod!
01/19/07 @ 12:08 am
The ones published were before I heard of the potential problem. The "reporters" are my friends who were only looking out for me...I will try to come to some agreement directly with the individual and not conduct a trial here in public-TC
01/19/07 @ 12:03 am
the accreditation is done by the Mass State Police to indicate we have met certain standards they set forth. I don't think it means one officer is better than another just that the agency meets standards set by the MSP-TC
01/18/07 @ 11:51 pm
I will continue to discuss the matter with the individual off line...actually more than one of my "reporters" were the ones who relayed information from members of the "agency" that the individual may have alterior motives. As an independant press service I do nto have the power of the mainstream press. I have to be able to work with all of the agencies on a daily basis or information will simply dry up. Again I reserve the right to refuse any submission and you are entitled to your take on the matter as well. I would stand up if I saw a cop doing wrong but I also think they deserve the benefit of the doubt (innocent until proven guilty). The vast majority are hard working, honest individuals. A couple of "bad seeds" should not ruin it for all-TC
01/18/07 @ 11:19 pm
I have been conversing with the individual you mention off line and that is between him and me...I will say I reserve the right to reject any submission without explantion...whether you choose to submit a photo anonymously or other is entirely up to you-TC
01/18/07 @ 9:02 pm
That is false. I do not check out people and that would be illegal anyway. The only thing I have ever asked of anyone contributing is not to get in the way of officials and to move along if asked to do so. Your contributions can be made anonymously too-TC
01/15/07 @ 11:06 pm
I'll check into this...hard to believe a shooting would not make news unless it was a suicidal type situation-TC
01/03/07 @ 10:14 pm
Thanks for the heads up...will pull until verified...TC
01/01/07 @ 11:33 am
Just got the info on that bailout. Posted in latest column. Thanks for all your comments folks!
12/09/06 @ 3:09 am
No I don't know the record but I'm sure there's some "winners" out there
12/08/06 @ 11:49 pm
Actually upon looking closer I believe the cruiser is using his pushbar to help keep the vehicle stable so it won't go on its roof while they get the driver out...the blocks in the foreground are also used by rescuers as a foundation to lay airbags on to stabilize and lift vehicles...
11/14/06 @ 11:26 pm
Its my understanding a lawyer mistakenly used the jurors name in open court and it went over the air on CourtTV-not really CourtTVs fault. A Boston TV station also reportedly tried to get pictures of her in violation of the judges order not to photo the jury WHICH APPLIES UNTIL THE TRIAL IS OVER even for dismissed jurors. The coverage I listened to at 11 PM did not use her name. All media including CourtTV was thrown out of court for a time after the incident and CWN has learned photographers are no longer allowed on the front step of the courthouse. I can tell you personally having hung outside the court on Monday afternoon the judge came out and emphatically said: "members of the media I remind you of my order not to photo the jury" before the jury left the building and each time the jury came and went they were escorted by court officers who announced "no photos" before they passed by. The curious thing I alluded to was that we were not allowed to film McCowen during the "perp walk" back to the prison van after court.
