When fishing, sailing, kayaking around Mashpee shorelines, often at dawn, I never saw anyone in a worshiping stance. Wouldn't building a casino have a higher risk of disturbing Indian bones? The tribe is not going to win any goodwill by delaying the wind farm, which will bring a better environment to all, Red or White.

Susan Spencer, you're a winner! The photos are works of art. Your naturalist prose is almost poetry. And your political views are right on. Thanks.

Way to go, Mary Zep!!! I hope Cape Care doesn't have to go through 7 years of foolish opposition like Cape Wind. Why do the obvious good-for-all endeavors take so long to be recognized? We should all be thankful for those who are putting in all that effort.

Congratulations to President Kathleen Schatzberg. We are lucky she decided to stay on. The CCC is a true leader in greenness.

In response to: Stop the Industrialization of Nantucket Sound
It's beyond belief that anyone could say that because it will take more than one wind farm to stop global warming that not even one should be built. We seem to live in a community populated by too many idiots

In response to: Same old, same old at Cape Cod Commission
Perhaps Ms. Durkin could tell us how much income we get from those who get a private sailing area for free. Any rental fees for Horseshoe Shoals will of course end up being part of our electric bills, so why try to stiff the developer? The Cape's birds aren't dumber than European birds, so they too will just fly over and around the turbines. Thanks Matt Patrick and Jim Liedell for pointing out the inconsistencies between the CCCommission and Barnstable's mission statements and their ridiculous opposition.
03/22/09 @ 6:00 pm
Does anyone know of a reputable dealer in tar and feathers for these irresponsible commissioners?
03/07/09 @ 8:05 am
Thank you Barbara. Some of these deniers must get all their information from Alliance handouts. Sen. Kennedy and coalman Koch don't own Nantucket Sound, even if they think they do. Any one with an open mind who studies this issue will come to the same conclusions as the MMS.
02/26/09 @ 9:09 am
If the well heeled Alliance just can't quit throwing money into the wind, that's up to them. But for the town of Barnstable's half-buttocked officials to spend taxpayer money on an obstructionist lawsuit when 85% of their constituents approve Cape Wind is just plain wrong.

That's right. The dictionary defines the often incorrectly used "pristine" as: remaining in a pure state, uncorrupted by civilization. So those Ostervillians should move back and let nature exist as it was originally.

We can all be grateful for Walter Brooks and his CC2day for giving us information that the captive CCTimes withholds. The Alliance has been as devious and untruthful as the outgoing president.
Credibility, once lost, is very difficult to restore. Wattley, like his predecessors hasn't a shred left. Most of us are looking for a successful conclusion to Cape Wind's remarkable, undeflected struggle to give us what we need more than ever---clean electricity.

Looking out for maritime safety is the true mission of the Coast Guard, not playing footsie with Cape Wind opponents. Those LNG tankers are like small atomic bombs, really dangerous items.

Your editorial is right on the mark. There is also the powerful influence his obstructionism has on all the rest of those lower ranking politicians who seem to be lemmings. Can they get away with "damn the voters' will forever?

We in the 3d district can be really proud of Rep. Matt Patrick being recognized for his leadership, his long-standing greenness. He was pro-wind from the start, and was narrowly elected over the Alliance's backed candidate. Time has been on his side, as nearly all his constituents have come to recognize his vision was right from the beginning. I'll bet there will be more good news like this in the future.

In response to: Harvard awards Senator Kennedy honorary degree
Sen. Kennedy has had a very distinguished record as a leader on many issues, including health. Most people applaud his being honored by Harvard, I feel sure. I would like to see him now endorse Cape Wind as an health issue, an environmental issue, and to lend support to President-elect Obama's goals for America's future. That would truly show what a large heart he has, and would signal a lot of lesser politicians that they too can change their unthinking opposition now.

In response to: Carey Murphy: an Independent Listener
He may listen when he agrees with you, but he's not listening to the large majority of Cape Codders who want the wind farm. I heard him in a debate with Matt Patrick, and he gave Sarah Palin type non-answers to audience questions.

In response to: Can Cape Wind save your ocean view?
There are "experts" funded by big oil and dirty coal who are in denial, disagreeing with nearly 100% of the scientific community who agree with James Hansen of NASA. Even our intellectually impaired president finally understands that we must fend off man-made global warming

In response to: Beatty, Kerry spar in televised debate
Looks like the SwiftBoaters are still at it. I don't like it that Kerry straddles the wind farm fence, but that is better than old oilyness. Since 75% of Cape Codders want the Cape Wind project to go forward, opposition doesn't reflect the will of the people.

In response to: It is not always lovely weather for ducks
Your study of the non-risk to birds is in sync with the Audubon position re birds/turbines. The greater harm to birds comes from the mercury that fossil fueled power plants spew into the atmosphere. Ornithologists at Cornell and the University of New Hampshire have found that various species propagate less due to mercury. They say the loons will become extinct in 40 years. The wood thrush is now down 65% due to mercury. So the turbines will save, not endanger the birds.

In response to: The Kennedy Primary
Nephew Joe would be a better candidate as he has been helping the needy for years with their energy costs. But the seat doesn't have to belong to a Kennedy. Uncle Ted and Sen. Kerry (who is up this year) should get over their long lasting mistakes and support Gov. Patrick's and the legislature's more forward-looking plan. Global warming is too important to be a political game.

Kerry has been a coward on the wind farm issue. But is there an opponent who will endorse what 86% of MA voters say they want? There's a trickle down effect that seems to keep all the smaller political fry from doing the peoples' will.

I'm a strong Clean Power Now supporter, belong to all the "green" organizations, have driven a hybrid for 5 years, done all the household conservation things, and only support those rare "green" politicians. All renewables are most welcome and none deserve exclusivity. Only the Alliance/Blue-H crowd would think otherwise. Shame on them.
03/25/08 @ 7:45 am
It's truly amazing how much some Cape Codders are than 95% of the world's scientists studying climate change. Exxon pays many of the 5% fringe blokes to keep a contrary view alive. Are you local deniers getting your due from big oil?
01/23/08 @ 8:53 am
Those letters are on the mark. Whether you are a senator who windsurfs, or one at the helm of a yawl, you ought to be able to sail through a wind farm that helps your constituents and the whole earth. If those turbines impinge on your sport, you can't be very seaworthy.
01/19/08 @ 9:15 am
And Cliff Carroll is still worried about transformer oil from the wind farm? everyone knows no such incident has happened anywhere, but we all know that oil tankers and barges spill oil on a regular basis. Why consider facts when you can scare the gullible with myths?

$100 per barrel oil means MA voters get hit twice -- in the car and in the furnace. We know we have an oil-soaked administration in D.C. , but MA is a Democratic state. Why is Sen. Murray gutting the great bill the House passed? Politicians should be more considerate of their constituents.

You are so right. Also both the black wall and the white turbines share the same cleancut simple approach to design. Both are in tune with our times, not relics of a time gone by like the fossil fuel plants. But what can be expected of fossil politicians?

That's right, Metro West. With a longer political career ahead of him than our selfish senior senator, Kerry should show some courage, some independence. Greenpeace deserves our thanks for their ads. We need those turbines up and running.

Rep. Matt Patrick has made a complete refutation of the Kennedy editorial. I am truly ashamed of my senator for being the leading individual in the battle against the wind farm. It is unworthy of him. He could still sail the Sound, enjoy the view, and let all the rest of us enjoy clean, affordable electricity.
