Paul Revere III? Them must be awful old Reveres to be only three generations apart. One has to wonder about the (supposed - or claimed?) lineage.

sounds to me like there's more to the story than we know.

Several neighbors said they heard the crash and the shooting. One neighbor who did not want to be identified said she heard a male voice shout, "Get out of the car!" Then she heard four shots, she said.

Dean said the driver's car briefly proceeded down Baxter after the crash and shooting before coming to rest a few doors down.

State police detectives from the office of Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe are investigating this case.

O'Keefe could not be reached for comment.

From the Globe website: A Yarmouth police officer shot a motorist dead early this morning after a failed vehicle stop and brief car chase.
The 90-second chase began on Harbor Road and continued around the corner onto Baxter Avenue, where neighbors heard a crash, followed by several gunshots. Police said the shooting occurred at about 1:10 a.m.

Authorities did not immediately release the name of the victim or the officer involved in the shooting.

Baxter Avenue resident Sarah Dean said the first sound she heard was that of the police cruiser and the driver's Lincoln meeting.

"I heard a big smash, the car and a cruiser colliding," said Dean, 27, who watched the scene unfold from her bedroom window. "Then I heard three gunshots."

Dean said she also heard a woman scream from the car in which the victim, believed to be male, was shot. "The girl jumped out of the car screaming and crying," said Dean, who had been caring for her sick 4-year-old daughter last night, and who pulled her daughter close to her during the commotion.

These photos are terrific. The British Beer pic is a work of art. So was the fire photo from the other day - great composition, great lighting. (I know this isn't a witty or cynical comment but I'm posting it anyway).

Sometimes it seems as if these Helpful Motorists get their jollies from causing accidents - like pyromaniacs starting fires - so they can enjoy the disasters they've caused.

Did the Helpful Person take off like a shot? Or did he or she go hide in the bushes to watch the shiny trucks & ambulances & general chaos?

Just a thought......

In response to: Yet another task farce - 1, 2, 3.
The rotary should work just the way it is. Most of the intersections - I say MOST - should work just the way they are as well.

What's broken is the way people drive.

At a stoplight, all it takes is one person at the front of the line that's sitting there answering e-mail on his laptop when the light turns green.

He looks around, scratches his butt, and just at the moment the green turns to yellow, he lurches forward, leaving everyone behind him at yet another red light - but else has moved.

Traffic lights are timed to allow to "average" drive times between them. Drivers are expected to move their cars when the light changes.

If the old lady in the SUV peering out from under steering wheel acts as if she's never seen a light change colors before, this is not the fault of the intersection.

Post cops at the rotary and have them pull over the ones that swerve, lurch, speed, or come to a dead stop in the circle to check the penciled map Aunt Jean drew for them.

Ticket them. Fine them.

Tim - I think you're doing everything right.

You have it all over the Cape Cod Times - if Teddy Kennedy got run over on Main Street in Hyannis, right in front of the CCT office, you'd have the incident up on the site right away, with color photos and commentary.

The Times, with its 31 editors and 45 managers (yes, I exaggerate, but only slightly) would have a blurb five days later with a "not our photographer, special to" photo credit.

And they will have gotten the story off the AP wire.

(I was a reporter & editor for 15 years. I can't believe what passes for 'news' in that rag. Recipes from the New York Times, indeed!)

I don't understand why we know that Christy Mihos was eating a roast beef & blue cheese sandwich, yet no accounts, including those of the Boston television news, made mention of what the advertising banner said.

Of course it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, it would just be interesting to know.

this is a great blog.
