FYI GE and Siemens are not the only companies developing offshore wind turbines. Clipper wind is looking to develop a 7.5 MW offshore turbine... more companies will follow if Cape Wind gets approved http://www.clipperwind.com/pr_100807.html

Carl - to say that offshore wind produces twice the wind as land based is just not true. The wind resource is extremely site specific and if you look at provincetown versus the proposed cape wind location you will clearly see both are class 5 and class 6 wind resource. With the new vestas report stating the high cost of ocean based wind, land based projects will be more economical even with lower wind speed. I have and still do advocate the construction of wind turbines on the cape cod national seashore because of its excellent wind resource. Many will disagree but I think we must look at developing wind energy from a resource potential and use the best sites first.
Remember a multi megawatt turbine has a certain numer of hours of operation in its lifetime. Higher wind means more wear and tear and shorter life...

your lack of understanding shows.
Cape Wind is a must run facility and will always bid ZERO which in turn will pull the price stack down by the amount of MW's it produces during that hour of bidding.

dp-what the hell is that suppossed to mean?

but you still make electricity even if your solar panels are on the north side of the house. Everyone knows the higher you go the more wind you get...and your point is?
Christy can spend his money on wind turbines, a new house in Greece or give it to the Alliance...its his money

Carl- I have no problem with peoples opinions, however when they start using mathematics they had dam well get their numbers correct.
Setting aside the capacity factor(you better know that means) of Christys turbines or Cape Winds turbines you have your numbers way off.
Christy has 3 1.5 kilowatts turbines for an installed capacity of 4.5 kilowatts.
Cape Wind will have an installed capacity of 420 megawatts of installed capacity...with me so far?? or you can think of it as 420,000,000 watts and 4500 watts if thats easier. Now divide 420,000,000 by 4500 and you get?? 93333.33
Now you claim to be an expert and yet you said 2 million turbines would be needed...
Now while you "may" be correct that they are a bit low you must realize that Christy had ZERO chance of installing a typical tower of say 100ft on his property. why do I say this? because you always need to have a "fall zone" of at least the height of the tower in every direction, and the fall zone must be in control of the owner. The property at Cristys is much to small. as for 30% production.. whats his monthly bill?

lol... water mains are almost always in the road or on the median thus the need for vests. The bucket is operating thus the need for hard hats. Ill give you the ladder and box... but I bet they werent there on the jobsite. I can see the stainless steel repair clamp on the ground so they are about ready to jump in the trench.
There were many times I didnt have every single piece of required equipment on the jobsite, just the way it is...
12/09/07 @ 10:27 am
No safety helmets, no reflective vests, no trench box and I dont see a ladder... whos in charge there? OSHA only fines private companies...I almost forgot
