In response to: Yesterday's heroes
Peter,
Are there charges being brought against Strather for the "rigged election", or is this simply anotherone of your mistaken presumptions of guilt of anyone associated with the present council?
I believe that everyone has the right to voice their opinion (especially when they have invested time and money)without the likes of you accusing them of criminal misconduct. Keep your opinions in the Gadfly blog.

Peter, I thought The Gadfly blog was your own personal views, but here you accuse Strather of improprieties ("rigging elections"). There have been no charges brought in this so-called incident.

Whatasurprise...Reread this non-sense. It is only Peter Kenney's cohorts Who are filing a land-suit. NOT the entire tribe. Two plaintiffs are Amelia and Steven Bingham....shunned members.

If I am not mistaken, Middleboro is one of the largest towns in MA (area). And as far as "this fact might easily discourage visitors..." Tourism to Cape Cod continues without any slow down, Even though we have a multi-town Super Fund site. So I have to disagree with your assessment, CCToday.

simply creepy

Deltawoman, although pc would be more logical (lives in mashpee), it appears that pk is correct.

A nice job by capecodtoday to butcher the intent of the original story, which can be read in more depth in the sunday cape cod times. Instead of it being a story about ALS cluster being over shadowed by the casino vote that many in Middleboro feel will help, revive their community, Walter Brooks' hacks at cctoday twisted this into the investors trying to dupe the tribe. WRONG. Nice try, though. By the way, anyone living in the Upper Cape is living near a Superfund Site...the MMR. There are efforts here and in Middleboro to remedy the problems, so it is not that uncommon for this to happen anywhere.

wopanashaqa, you may need to write a complete rebuttal, but there's plenty of support here.
10/02/07 @ 10:47 pm
Thanks D-man, my thoughts are sincere. I don't like the way that Peter manipulates stories and the readers' conscience.
10/02/07 @ 9:25 pm
I have been commenting on these blogs for a short time now. And my desire was to show how easily vague comments or simple ommisions can confuse and misinform readers.
With this said, I feel that I need to clarify something about myself. I am not a Mashpee Wampanoag, in fact I am not even Native American. I never intended to confuse anyone. But at the same time, if there wasn't an assumption of my connection to the tribe, Peter Kenney probably wouldn't have tried to call me out and say who I was. He also wouldn't have e-mailed me so I could correct any of his innacuracies. This should make everyone think twice about what they believe to be true in the context in which it is presented. I apologize to those who believed that I was Wamp, and hope that you continue to respect my opinions.
10/02/07 @ 8:53 pm
I think he was saying that the "editor" is actually Peter Kenney as it says that he writes and edits this column. It is another way for Peter to try and control the conversation for his own agenda
10/01/07 @ 9:36 pm
Haven't heard much from Peter lately, and this is all he's got. A vague statement that was already out several weeks ago, when Peter and Steven were on channel 2.
10/01/07 @ 8:32 pm
Oh, wait a minute, if you replaced the word "some " in the first sentence and replaced it with "shunned", it makes more sense??!!??
10/01/07 @ 8:28 pm
Exactly how many are "some". And as far as the defendants to be named, Seems like that ought to be quite a long list.
09/28/07 @ 5:08 pm
Yes Peter they should know. But they can find out themselves, privately, without anyone else's involvement.
09/28/07 @ 2:55 pm
I suppose, Buzz, that you believe everything you read on the internet (especially from the gaff-fly).
Deltaman, good analogy. Maybe now wampcard.... will get it.
09/28/07 @ 11:38 am
Wampcardinwallet: the general public does not have any need or right to see sensitive information. This investigation is not aimed at the entire Wamanoag Tribe, therefore the members private information should stay private.
09/28/07 @ 11:34 am
The Mashpee Enterprise reports that the police cruiser near Moreno-Hendricks house was investigating another unrelated incident at a different address. Nice try try Peter, real reporters do their homework and get the truth, they don't spread unsubstantiated rumors.
09/26/07 @ 10:34 pm
DM, I don't think there was any impropriety here, just an expensive bump in the road for the tribe in their honest efforts to repair the Meetinghouse. Personally I think the bats would have relocated into the many acres of woods on their own and didn't need new aluminum houses. Other costs that probably weren't expected was the removal of all the Guano from the building (HAZ MAT ).
09/26/07 @ 9:03 pm
By my count ther were only seventeen mentions of Peter's name(not counting this one) out of 64 comments and possibly 5000 + words, believe me, you aren't being mentioned that often, especially since you are the author. It is however a very complicated story that you continue to manipulate for your own agenda.
09/26/07 @ 8:30 pm
Peter, police are supposed to patrol their given areas. Rte. 130 has been the site of numerous auto fatalities in recent years, in fact the state is doing a study to see what can be done about the problem. For this reason, police often run speed traps on Main St.(rt. 130)
09/26/07 @ 8:25 pm
Deltaman, I know of one cost overrun for sure. At the beginning of work at the Meetinghouse, it was discovered that bats were residing in the building. As I recall, the town planner's wife led a crusade to save those bats and insisted on having bat houses installed in the cemetery...I think to the tune of $15,000.00!! I'm sure it was in one of the newspapers.
09/25/07 @ 8:12 am
Deltaman, washiki is correct. I think you were acknowledging that(but I'm not sure). I think he's trying to show readers that Peter has an agenda and will continue to misinform. I do agree that it can be done more subtely, but sometimes emotion and passion gets the best of us (myself included). Washiki, keep up the good work and don't let Peter off easy.
09/23/07 @ 5:32 pm
Peter is only here to perpetuate rumors and indulge his own self-importance. Deep down, he doesn't really care what happens to the Mashpee tribe. These stories sell and therefore stroke his ego. He is not a friend to the tribe. Be careful.
09/22/07 @ 8:47 pm
As you say, Peter, there are about 1500 hundred members of the tribe. You also say(in other stories)that the opposition to the tribal council is a large group. If that is the case, then why would it be so diificult for them to gather 100 signatures? This would represent only 10% of the enrolled voters(estimate based on assumed # of minors and those "declared mentally incompetent.") And as far as the "spiritual kinfolk" that you refer to, Idon't think so.

boy peter, did you get put in your place on this one. A major correction in in another story today by peter. Looks like cc today should be looking for a replacement for the(not-so) great gadfly. wopanashaqa, great history lesson. PS did anyone notice the TRIBAL UNITY signs popping up around town.

I hope you continued conversations are taken to another site/ not on capecodtoday as Peter suggested. We've all given Peter too much of our attention. And there will be limited privacy here, as Walter has already given my e-mail to Peter. Not that I'm surprised, but I thought it would a little more difficult for Peter to get it.

Peter I was simply asking a question about accusations. But, WOW!!, what great reporting by you. You did the research when it concerned you. Maybe in the future you'll do the same when it comes to the tribe. If you had this same thoughtfulness, instead of simply trying to "break" stories, maybe you would get a little more respect? Your worried about your pain, Think of the 1500 or so Wamps who you disresect.
09/15/07 @ 10:51 am
Peter, first off, I'm not going to give you the answers, you need t do better research and report things truthfully. Second, you insinuated that shawn Hendricks stole money from the Kellogg fund in 1980 to add a basketball court at his house. According to you, Shawn didn't buy that house until 2000. Does this make any sense? Please see my other comments and get back to me.

Thanks Deltaman.
PETER I know you're around, but you still haven't responded to any of my simple inquiries. Are you ignoring me or just nervous as to where this might go. I'm sure you've looked at this blog on numerous occassions, if for nothing more than to admire your own likeness in the headline. You wrote to me before "Any further questions, feel free to ask." I'm asking.
09/14/07 @ 6:32 pm
Peter, You are insinuating that the Grant monies that Mark Harding wrote about had something to do with the Kellogg Foundation. WRONG. It was actually to do with Museum funds that possibly were used at Maushop Farm. You should try to get your facts straight before you write a story.

In response to: Phoenix does Peter - House Pest
Peter is simply desperate for attention. He hasn't gotten the facts straight since the beginning, but I suppose that if you throw enough crap against the wall, some of it will stick. Unfortunately, many of his readers take his "reporting" as objective and truthful. He should include a disclaimer saying that he has no journalistic integrity and that he is here to propel his opinions to the forefront. Conveniently, this attention strokes his ego. Ithink I hear the clock ticking, Peter and your fifteen minutes of fame are coming to an end. Kudos, Adam on a job well done.
