In response to: What Is a Tribe To Do?
One thing that must be realized, is that the members Tribal Council have not seen the agreement that was signed between the investors and Marshall et al. So when people make mention of the "agreement", it is refering to the agreement between Marshall, Hendricks (Shawn), Hendricks (Desire) and the investors. The other elected council members have not seen the agreement.

One other brief comment I would like to point out. From what I understand from various sources, the powwow princess was not allowed to cast her vote during the last election however, Glen "The Big Hurt" Marshall was strutting around the council headquarters like he was still the chairman, telling people who to vote for, making threats to other council members and blaming them for his crash and burn career. Something is wrong with that picture.

The people of the tribe have to show in the next general election that they are smarter than than this and elect some legitimate leaders to run the government. I've said this before, as long as Shawn Hendricks is the Chairman, Marshall is still running the show.

How many non-native spokespeople do the we Wampanoags have?

Add "Harboring a Fugitive" to the list of charges Hendricks - Moreno is facing.

This article does not make any mention of the parcels that Mashpee purchased are contaminated. The contaminated area is the area "located within a mile of Everett Square — a densely settled neighborhood adjacent to the town’s onetime factory row," not the rural land that the Wampanoags purchased. Anti-casino proponents will use anything the fight their fight.

In response to: Mashpee: A Question of Fact vs. Fiction
Jack, this is no different than saying that the Holocaust did not occur. Additionally, I fail to see the words "Graduate of" or "Anthropological" or "Professor at" as creds for the writer of this piece. This is nothing more than an anti-casino editorial based on one person's opinion backed up by no evidence. If this was intended to create dialogue as you claim, than it is a poor attempt at creating anything constructive.

Jack, it looks like wopanashqu is doing just that. I'd pit those two against each other anytime, anyplace and guess who I'd put my money on? The Wamp. She's on the ball. I guess we Wamps aren't supposed to be smart. What "others" don't realize is that there are Wamps who are Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants and many who hold Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in various fields. They must feel that they need to discredit us as a people somehow. I condider this a form of institutional racism.

In response to: Will history repeat itself for the Mashpee Wampanoag?
Aaron Tobey signed a signed a non-disclosure agreement to see the deal? That concerns me, seeing that Aaron Tobey is running for Vice-Chairman. Is he conforming to the status quo already? Can someone explain this to me? I'm open minded on this. If the reason was legit, I'm OK with it.

If the Binghams are trying to become "un-shunned", then they need to stop doing things like this. I don't see how even a new council could reverse the shunning when the Binghams continue to put themselves out there trying to get "face time". I never want to here any of the shunned members cry about there "unjust" treatment. They got what they wanted, Marshall is gone and the rest are scattering like cockroaches when the light goes on, ready to be indicted and flip on each other for leniency or immunity. Note to the Bingham family, close the pie hole and enjoy the light show that is looming over the town of Mashpee.

I thought Petey was the trained monkey? Kenney has been speaking for the Binghams for a while now.

No. I said that their may be a council employee elected or not, who may be selling drugs, or not. ;) I will check those constitutions and report back soon.

Good article Peter. However, should we shun those members of our Tribe, that may or may not work for the council, who sell drugs to our children. I don't want to be accused or starting rumors or anything, so I have to be careful here , but they might be working for the Tribe. But then again, they might not be. ;)

In response to: Attorney General digging deep into tribal documents
Ahhh, the now infamous "Fisherman's Fund." The Fund that the council is so desparately trying not to talk about and has taken whatever steps necessary not to do so. "It's all Glenn's fault." Everyone else involved was forced into it or was so ignorant that they did not know what it was all about. Defenses I'm sure we will here soon. Maybe the FBI should look into how much Desire Hendricks has been to Michigan over the past few years.

In response to: Petition demanding recall of Tribal Council challenged
You are right "curiouswamp". The petition was to call a special meeting to discuss 4 items in particular. It had nothing to do with a recall. We may have to pull the tapes.

Ps. When is Paul Mills going to step up and act like a judge. What is his background anyway? Does he have a backgroung in anything law related besides breaking it?

In response to: Marshall's web still in place
Paul Mills is in the pocket of some members of the council. If this type of manipulation had occurred in State or Federal Courts, people would be calling for all involved heads served on a platter. Goes to show non-members what type of government the Wampanoags have in place. Question, how would the election workers know which people checked a box on the ballot and who wrote in Paula Peters' name? Ballots are supposed to be secret. Again, this is the Wampanoag goverment that the tribal members must deal with. And the really sad part is that there are people who support this government. Must be something in it for them too.
09/20/07 @ 5:21 pm
From what I understand, I believe it was to call a special council meeting. To discuss what, I'm not sure.
09/20/07 @ 4:34 pm
That's not true. Take it easy. The petition was for another reason.

Did the Tribal Council vote to have Nuey dismissed as what was stated to her when it happened. Council members state that they weren't consulted, and records showed that there was not meeting. Let's see if the Council members stand up to Hendricks at the meeting tomorrow night or will they cower down as in the past. I wonder what he has on them or promised them when the casino opens, if ever. I hear Nuey's children, both of whom are very well educated, will be driving in from RI to inquire as to why their mother was fired over a .41 cent stamp, when there is 15 million dollars missing from Tribal coffers. Did Shawn Hendricks find an answer as to how much he made as Vice Chair yet, or does he need more time or consult with more attorneys. I am watching.
09/18/07 @ 9:06 am
If the investigation is focused on Marshall, then Hendricks needs to worry because he is Marshall's protege isn't he. He was involved in the Mashpee Wampanoag Fisherman's Association along with Desire Hendricks and Glenn Marshall correct? A search of the Masssachusetts Secretary of State's website used to provide that information, however it has mysteriously been removed, but not before copies of the information was downloaded and distributed. I wonder what the date was when it was removed. Have to look into that one.

No Joanne. Myrna was suspended without pay at first and then WITH pay for being accused of something for which she had documentation to prove her innocence, which is still pending by the way. You know that. The truth is that Myrna knows too much of the ineptitude and mishandling of Tribal funds and calls people on it. Sound familiar? Shw was not fired for misappropriation of funds. There is a huge difference between misappropriation of funds and accidently putting the wrong stamp on a letter. You have to show intent. The council could not prove intent. Is there due process in the Tribe? NO there isn't.

Myrna Nuey was not fired for accidently using a .41 cent stamp on a personal letter. She was fired because she wrote the truth in a quarterly report which stated that her department, WIA, had no money to send Wampanoag children to college.{477} This report was made public to the Tribe at a meeting at the High School on the 9th of Sept. The same meeting that Shawn Hendricks needed an attorney to explain "our" Constitution to us. The same meeting where nominations were taken for the office of Vice-Chair and Hendricks could not answer the question of how much the position paid, he held the position for 7 years. (maybe the impending investigation played a part). His description of the position included 3 items and "things like that." (stuff others did but he took credit for). It's ironic that members of the council are under investigation for the dissappearance of millions of dollars and Myrna Nuey is discharged for accidently using a .41 cent Tribal Council stamp. I think the money from the WIA Program was diverted to perhaps THE FISHERMAN'S FUND. Let the Feds do their job.
