In response to: The Mashpee tribe is on the outside looking in
Peter,
Thank you for keeping this thread and others going. I have been following the casino debate for years, mostly because I wanted a job at one lol. What amazes me is that the state continues to sit back and allow our neighbors to take the lead and our money. I believe that money should stay in mass.
I think the state needs to work out something with the tribes to recoup the revenue going to our neighbors. In doing so they will also limit the number of casinos built to the tribes.
The Mashpee and Aquinnah are on different roads to get to the same place. The Aquinnah have been there before and may know a little more then the Mashpee about how to appease the state. The Mashpee seem to have learned from the Aquinnah about the land into trust issue, in that they needed private land to purchase thus avoiding the state blocking the sale. In doing so they needed someone with deep pockets who had been there before(Kirzener & Co).
I hope both tribes succeed in their venture and hope the Mashpee have covered themselves as far as the money percentages go.

Peter, With all due respect, It seems the tribal casino issue strikes a sour note with you. Perhaps u need to review the history and the reason why the Aquinnah tribes casino plan was shot down during the Weld years. The state house was trying to stop it and cried foul the same way you are, what they found was that the only way to stop it from happening was to prevent the sale of the land, some of which they had donated to the city of New Bedford. I am not the reporter here you are. If I am wrong so be it, however It is my belief that the Aquinnah now have the same rights as the Mashpee when it comes to land into trust because federal law supercedes state law. The federal gaming act was passed after the Aquinnah tribe was recognized. Therefore like it or not the state has to follow federal law. By the way I now reside in Florida for the most part but own a house about 5 miles from the proposed Mashpee site.

Rez makes very little sense with his silly rants. I don't get what the points are he is trying to make or the reason people reply to his psycobabble. If he only knew how uneducated and ignorant he seems to be here, then maybe just maybe, he would begin to think before he types.

I try to follow all blogs relative to the casino issue in Mass and there seems to be very few if any that present the facts pro and con without favoritism one way or the other. The one thing that the people against casinos keep forgetting is that federal law supercedes state law. The Mashpee tribe can and will develope a casino if and when that land is taken into trust make no mistake about it. They are allowed that right under federal law. When it comes to the people against it, they can try to prolong it as long as they want to but in the end they will find that there is very little they can do to stop it regardless of what they say on beacon hill. I happen to live in Florida and see what the Seminoles are doing here. The Mashpee tribe is using the same backers for the most part. They are also following the same route. There is big money involved in the Mashpee quest and sometimes big money attracts big eyes. Therefore i do not blame the Mashpee or the backers for trying to put the right people in place as spokesmen etc. Anyway thats my two cents if anyone cares.

In response to: Tribe must choose: casino OR sovereignty
After watching the patrick press conference im a lil confused. Is he insinuating that the mass tribes should partner together for 1 of the licenses? If he is ill go out on a limb and say that will never happen.

One has to wonder what Patrick was thinking. If i were a member of the mashpee or aquinnah tribe i would be doing a money dance right now. Like it or not the casinos are coming anyway. If i were the backers behind either tribe i wouldnt bid on a license at all. And another thing .... Bosley needs to wake up, his psycobable and sky is falling mumbojumbo has worn out its welcome. His megalomaniac(I know whats best for EVERYONE in the state)attitude seems like a personal belief that he will fight to defend no matter what the cost to the people of the state. But hey we pay his salary. Shame on us. Maybe we should ressurect the jury that hung the witches in salem to hang all the people in this state that dont want to pay higher taxes then we already pay. Gimme a break already
