"Wholly Crap" Peter! Writing Sunday's coherent editorial must have caused you significant indigestion — There you go, passing great gobs of gas again…

1st-off, the Wampanoag do not OWE you or any other CC2day reader an explanation of how they run their meetings;

2nd, when they do have any inclination to "share" I'd guess they'd want CC2day to be dead last in finding-out ANYTHING useful — as a direct result of your incessant, negative rumor-mongering!

Now, you know, Peter — just in case you're still wondering why — EVERY major Cape Cod publication scooped CC2day on publishing both the notice of this event AND the election results. This is certainly the LAST place I'd recommend to any person looking for useful news & information about Wampanoag matters. You have turned a potentially valuable news resource into your own personal dumpster, driving-off 'most all reasonable, open-minded participants in the process.

In response to: The battle for the soul of the tribe
Much of BLT's claims about the Mashpee Wamps are speculative, but it IS far easier for outsiders to assume the worst, when the ONLY public face we're offered is belligerence. The Mashpee Tribe don't appear to have yet fully-connected with the idea that their partially-restored "sovereignty" is NOT absolute, and that being permitted to move-forward with many of their economic development plans WILL often require cooperation & support from other "sovereign" entities.

At the same time, it is reasonable to expect that some aspects of Tribe's mechanisms for self-governance might be a tad rusty, since they haven't been allowed to fully exercise them for several centuries, and some of those also need to be adapted to current conditions; they're certainly NOT being helped with this, by repeated, derogatory epithets attacking the character of the entire tribe! Wouldn't that repeated harassment — by itself — be sufficient to cause them to withdraw & conduct their affairs in private?

I have differed with Peter over style & content many times, but he has just posted his most-eloquent, statesman-like blog in my recollection… Sadly, the commenters have largely ignored that in favor of resuming their petty bickering… Please, everyone, re-read this piece and for once — try to use it as the basis for a constructive dialog — If someone posts a comment that's crude & irrelevant, you'll only further derail the discussion by hurling back your own handful of dung!

Now, what do any of us know/want to know about the two new members elected to the Tribal Council this Sunday? Under current circumstances, I believe that ANY Wampanoag who allowed themselves to be nominated should be applauded for their courage & grit, for being willing help steer the Tribe thru such an 'exciting' & eventful time…

In response to: Running From Their Own People
I wish that folks on both sides of this 'debate' will begin to discuss issues, rather than just wallowing in murky matters which are unrelated to how (or if) casino gambling can be introduced without serious harm to the character & quality of life for the surrounding region… "Progress Happens; Change is Inevitable; Opportunity Knocks!" — These are all ways of saying that we can be CERTAIN that the Cape Cod region will be a different place — culturally & socially, than it is now (& was 10 years ago). Those people who will have a meaningful role in shaping just HOW the Cape will be different, are NOT the people whose imaginations are limited to attacking OR defending the character (or lack) of the likes of Glenn Marshall & Amelia Bingham!!!

The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act has yielded a very mixed bag of economic & social results; In our time, the Internet offers a unique opportunity for ALL Cape residents — Wampanoag & non-native — to learn from the mistakes AND successes of others. Please get past the pettiness & start learning how to make good choices for children of ALL flavors!

I'm surprised that Peter's fruitful imagination has not (yet) led him to claim that he can pick-up a blank piece of paper & know what someone intended to write on it…

If anyone bothered to look, they'd discover "secretsandlies" was 'born' just two days ago, & instantly the (self-proclaimed) final authority on all Wampanoag matters… More likely, imo — just another shape-shifter oozing out of the same worm's @$$hole! (Don't waste any effort responding to this feeble-minded jerk!)

Also, entertaining to see the "PAK-man" occasionally climb down from his pedestal… Nuttin' like an ol' fashioned pillow fight to warm up a cold Winter's night!!!

Now, I do feel bad 'bout breaking this news to ya, but the 21st century is finally reaching Cape Cod too!!! So, get used to it; join the party - & just as importantly - get over yourself! You look totally ridiculous in that Superman leotard; it hasn't fit you right since the eighth-grade…

Wamptruth, Amy Lambiaso is also employed by Scott Ferson's Liberty Square PR firm; she fills in for her boss when he's too busy with really important assignments. You may expect to continue seeing both of their names associated with matters relating to the exploits of the Mashpee tribe's South African financiers… As far as being called "Wampanoag Spokespersons" though, that may be a mis-statement, as we understand they are paid entirely by the Mashpee tribe's South African suitors & have been hired to serve as the investors' "Spin Doctors" - offering a favorable & 'sanitary' public viewpoint for the South Africans' connection with Mashpee affairs. On the other hand, should you still really believe that they are YOUR ‘spokespersons’ then we invite you to find out if either of them will accept or even return a phone call from tribe members… 617/695-0369

Here's a glowing example of Cape Cod Today's small-minded way of reporting news… This 3 sentence snippet about the Mashpee affordable housing grant NEVER mentions that Mashpee's Town Manager calls the $670-thousand grant a 'win-win' for the town, & the snippet only links to a story published in the Fort Wayne, Indiana Journal~Gazette - - which was in turn quoting to the Cape Cod Times website, where readers were actually provided with a balanced report describing how the region will potentially benefit from the grant!

You guys should rightfully be embarrassed by spending so much time snooping around parking lots and back alleys, that you overlooked a constructive event about the Mashpee Wampanoag which occurred in broad daylight, then you go to great lengths to obscure the fact that the legitimate media scooped you on this story!

It's one thing to always be claiming your farts don't smell, but you go too far when you try to pretend that you never even fart!

In response to: Chicago-style Election for the Mashpee Wampanoags?
Mav, I accept for the moment, you'll have to pass for a 'voice of reason' in this debate; the Mashpee are positively focused (imo) on addressing governance issues growing out of recently identified oversights in their constitution & bylaws, while Fed & State law enforcement have been pursuing allegations of wrongdoing which at most implicate a couple of tribe members. However, the tribe's restored sovereignty represents the 600-pound gorilla at the tea party, which everyone is so determined to ignore… The Mashpee Wamps now have the means to have a profound effect on the CC region's economy & lifestyle for decades to come… So while the tribe's members are waking-up & warming-up to all the implications of how to best deal with that ethically & responsibly, I suggest that the BEST way to ensure they'll consider the ENTIRE CC region's interests while designing an economic development model, is to offer prayers for wisdom plus constructively-framed opinions & guidance, rather than racial slurs & ridicule! I am NOT a Mashpee, but these are good people & I'm not offended by your mistake…

Here's a shining example of how-well the editorial staff of Cape Cod Today understand how to manipulate their small power-base of ignorant racial bigots & keep them frothing venom… Now, let's see - can we make some tasteless joke out of that?

Mr. Kenney, it's difficult to find ANY of your posts which speak to gaming, without weaving the Wampanoag into it; just as for months, you were unable to discuss Mashpee, without mentioning Marshall. I don't believe that I can productively argue about your intentions, but the effect certainly drags them thru the muck you're raking. Now, if I make the extraordinary leap-of-faith to assume you are just benignly misguided, that still leaves the matter of your publication's profound biases which unmistakably add further denigration to your pieces with gratuitous slap shots like the current cartoon & 'historic' depictions of natives torching a colonist village, as well as a now-predictable low road to associating the Mashpee with Abramoff by innuendo in your prejorative "Wamp-Gate" blog, rather than factually reporting on his association with the tribe, & how they actually benefitted by his assistance!
So, I accept your appellation of "Grumpy" but obviously your publication is not "Snow White" or Bashful, Happy, Sneezy or Sleepy - So we're left Dopey or Doc-tored - I'll believe either…:(

Red Cross Life Saving teaches that drowning victims may be so panicked that they'll actually drag-down bystanders with them. So we see P. Kenney, once self-alleged to be the CC region's premier power-broker, now reduced to pandering for visibility, by dragging the Mashpee tribe into every piece of drivel he writes - however unrelated to his story's premise. I have been following the unfurling of Deval Patrick's gaming flag intently - both in real world media & here at CCToday, without finding ANY indication that the Mashpee have shown the slightest inclination to bid on one of three regional licenses, yet Kenney attempts to implicate them in this at every turn, as thought it was a forgone conclusion… Perhaps, it's where he parks his nose at night, that lets him smell conspiracy & subterfuge well-before anyone else can; on the other hand; it could just as well be a further sign of journalistic 'compromise' born out of desperation…

There's plenty to be concerned about in Patrick's plan, so It's sad that Kenney's splashing on the Mashpee just shows him as being all wet again…
