Cru, don't be so paranoid, its no an attack, its an observations. When Tim said no attacks look at the last statement you wrote and the last one I did. You went WAY over the line and WAY off topic. I am sure Tim made note of that, I am sure EVERYONE made note of that. You are quite the drama queen aren't you.
07/31/08 @ 11:06 am
Wow.....I am sorry for all involved.
Cru, let me guess there is some backstory to this involving CW,JF and the police and DA's office...
07/31/08 @ 9:15 am
Cru,
You seriously need to get a REAL life not all this "cut & paste" life you keep apouting.
Also, I wasn't threatening you, clearly you have no idea what a threat is just like you have no concept of freedom of speech, anyway let me use an example you might be able to grasp.
If you were a food critic and you continuously bashed all the restraunts up and down the cape. How could do you feel your service would be? Do you think the quality would be off?
All you have done with every news peice you read is bash all who wear blue, along with the DA's office. So what do you think the quality of you service would be if you needed the police?
Now do you understand what I am saying? Is it plain enough for you?
I would love to know what you would think of if the officer got run over that night and maybe a harmless couple in another car was also crashed into and seriously hurt? Hmmm???
By the way I am legal, its really not that hard.
07/30/08 @ 9:44 am
That explains alot.Like Sybil? or Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum...or maybe Dumb & Dumber....
07/30/08 @ 9:08 am
All I have to say is to Bitter& Cru are you tired from spouting all that long-winded Bull&^$#. You both start out to make a well thought out argument and it all ends up sounding like crap. That's amazing. Overall to both of you I hope you never need the police on Cape Cod for anything...because I think it would be a looonnnggg wait for both of you.
07/29/08 @ 2:18 pm
Cru,
His other choice, which you conviently forget every time you write ANYTHING. was to stand in the street and die. I think we all should all thank the almighty that Cru doesn't hold an "office", doesn't work in the criminal justice system, thanks should be given for that. The only power Cru has is the yap yap, which could launch the space shuttle and the overwhelming knowledge of NOTHING but puked back facts that Cru can't possibly understand.

07/29/08 @ 1:24 pm
Anifa,
I am bowing to you since you have hit the nail on the head. WOW......SLAM DUNK!!!!!
Cru, I hope you read that and clearly heard it loud and clear. Not everything has to do with the CW trial.

Karent, Just listen to yourself. Do you know anyone who has shot someone? If the roles had been reversed, we could have had a dead police officer,in the line of duty, that's a pay out. Then the criminal charges against the perp, more money no matter what the outcome is. So look at that when you are thinking about the all mighty $$$$$. Now that the girlfriend has been found out to be illegal, she isn't getting any money from the state. Her pics & name have been all over the place. SO what money are you worried about again? Insted of realizing this is an awful event from all angles.
07/29/08 @ 12:31 pm
Cru, Do you know anything about a criminal investigation? Apparently NOT. The situation is currently under investigation which means they do not release every single piece of information.
The information is not just about the "25 year old father of two"... Are you actually reading the information or just blinded by the Brazilian part? He was pulled over by different officers it says that in EVERY article. Seriously learn something before you start spouting your bull%$#* redoric that you are infamous for.

Cru,
CLean out your ears and get off your soap box before you get a nose bleed. Did anyone say anything about illegals? They said he didn't have a license. That doesn't mean he's illegal. Please don't tread in an area you don't know because I bet you aren't fresh from the boat and I bet you burn in the sun. Me, I am fresh off the boat, I tan but I am legal. You need to leave that topic alone and just focus on the shooting. The slurs and racist comments are heresay unless you were magically there.

Posse, Great statement...
Gee. Cru you aren't too bitter. Whew!!! You need to wake up and realize maybe your"friend" might have done something, like try to run over a police officer with his car. That's a felony sweetheart. I hate to be the one to hip you but a car is a dangerous weapon. Try to strain your brain and see both sides of the story.
07/29/08 @ 10:32 am
Will some people start seeing this guy (Andre) as possibly a murderer, who just didn't want to get in trouble, if he had hit and killed Officer VanNess? Just because the officer wanted to go home to his family that night, doesn't make him evil, makes him a survivor.
07/28/08 @ 4:10 pm
So Clam is it Sybill or Clam which? For someone so out of touch with reality, you are so complex (Cru, Clam,Bitter) Its like a twisted out of touch old woman living on the hill with her cats and oatmeal...OOOhhh Scary
07/28/08 @ 4:07 pm
Clam you & Cru,
Are like P.B. & J. just stuck right there together in your narrow mindedness. Do you ever get tired of the same side of the street? I can hear you, its just that being so vanilla is very hard on the ears.
07/28/08 @ 4:04 pm
Clam, You do know about things being hard to swallow. The other side of any situation is hard for you to swallow. Watch out for your head because its stuck somewhere, care to guess? Its not the sand...ouch!!
07/28/08 @ 3:59 pm
I can't believe I am defending myself to Clam & Cru but I wait tables and work in a kitchen and that is my 2nd job. SO I am there working the jobs that no one wants to work. So maybe when you two fall off the high hill you perch on to look down your noses at all from, you can keep that in mind. I feel bad that both Cru & Clam can't see both sides. Does you brain hurt from being so narrow minded? I'll say it again I hope neither one of you ever needs a cop on Cape Cod, you two are out of luck.
07/28/08 @ 3:32 pm
Rap,
I am with you on that one. Clam is so quick to see the victim's side only and that its all a conspircy. My thoughts are also with the officer.
07/28/08 @ 3:22 pm
Clam,
First, I am NOT swallowing anything. So back up with that. I am saying its plausable. In the pictures in the CCTimes you can see the tire marks. Since you have your jury experience under your belt, you do know how many people in takes to reconstruct any incident. So are you saying they are all lying? This is Yarmouth not Truro. SO now are you saying that every Cape Cod Police Dept. is corrupt? I am so hoping you or someone you care about never needs help on this island since you've slandered SO many. Just remember what they say about Karma....hate to be you.
07/28/08 @ 2:38 pm
Clam,
Its all negative in your world. Its impossible to believe that's what happened. That is so far fetched to you. What happy swell meadows world do you live in?
07/28/08 @ 12:09 pm
To all concerned. They have his picture with his daughter on CapeCodOnline. They have now identified him.Another follow up the Amber Alert has been lifted, they have located her in New York but officials don't have her yet. Sorry, Tim to jump on your reporting.
06/27/08 @ 11:47 am
Let's just say its been a long time since she has been a sweet kid. She has a tatoo on her of 3 baby devils with her 3 boys names below where it says "my 3 little devils" who are the biggest criminals. I can say she is very proud of the criminals she has brought in this world, raised and groomed to live the lives they do. So she is FAR from a sweet kid. Those are just her boys, she has daughters as well.
06/26/08 @ 9:22 am
Does anyone recogize the name Bassett? Let me add to the story. John is the step-son of Brenda Bassett. The brother to Randy, Keith and Chris Newell. All of whom have been in the news for years for everthing from drug poseesion to having firearms. Mom (Brenda) was arrested a few months ago with her son Keith and her boyfriend. They truly encompass the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
06/18/08 @ 10:44 am
Hey Tim and all..
This is so off topic. I just heard there was a plane crash at the airport on the Willow Street side. Its a freight carrier flight. Any other info?
06/17/08 @ 8:51 am
Mopo, Why when its serious to you make such an off color remark? You can be funny, don't get me wrong but seriously know when to just not say anything.
06/12/08 @ 12:54 pm
Buzz another "high-five" goes to you.
When Eddie was in custody he tried to strangle another inmate that was 1/2 his size...what a teddy bear.
Let's just all face it no matter what is said. Cru just is alined with CM. Cru has all the facts and every one else should just lower their heads in shame that CM is behind bars, where he can get hurt.
06/12/08 @ 11:03 am
High-Five goes to Buzz!!
Cru, just sits up there and knows it all and none of us know anything at all. No, we must bow to Cru...NOT!!!
Local, you also made a great point. I remember when Ted Bundy was first arrest a local politicain was on the news saying what a nice up coming young man he was, he had even babysat his kids. Where did Bundy end up? In the electric chair.
Now before, you all get in an uproar. I am not outright comparing Bundy to CM. I am saying that people close will say the most wonderful things, only see the positive.
I know a person who is one of the biggest and most wanted herion dealers. But how I know him, he a man who loves his mom and has a great smile and is also a gental giant. It still doesn't take away that he is a criminal.
06/11/08 @ 2:21 pm
Cru,
You just really have love for CM. What if, try to use your imagination, he's guilty. Even with a new trial, he did it.
I agree sex does not equal murder. But it does mean he was there. "Strong Swimmers" or what? They cannot swim towns away.
06/10/08 @ 4:25 pm
Clami, wake up from dreamland. Did I say I was an expert? NO. I can just see both sides. Every trial being different, yeah, how do you think they prsecute the law? By using presendents that were set in other trials.
Do you think the law is just a made up story like Cinderella. Lawyers just read from it like a play book.
What common sense have you shown? Where is it?
06/10/08 @ 4:21 pm
Bitter , you can read? Right? O.J. is guity as sin and he's playing golf as we speak.. SO then trials are always fair, right?
06/10/08 @ 4:19 pm
Sorry Calmi didn't mean to forget about you. You just know all the facts, don't you. Its amazing, maybe you should have been on the jury. You could have set CM free , made friends and you two could be on a happy picnic right now.
06/10/08 @ 4:16 pm
Bitter, What???? By the way its rot. Unless CM has magically turned into a fence. Have you been in prison Bitter? Known anyone except CM?
It must be nice to be so sure that CM is innocent. You aren't going to be on any juries anytime soon with your vast wealth of knowlege? Please let people know that way they can prepare by getting better locks,a dog maybe an armed guard.
You think O.J. didn't kill Nicole as well, don't you.
06/10/08 @ 4:01 pm
Bitter..at least CM is above ground to spend the last 3 years at Walpole.
06/10/08 @ 3:59 pm
Calmshelli...you believe that saying???
First year law students know that is a fairly tale. That's funny...
Rock on Possee, you actually are funny.
06/10/08 @ 3:57 pm
Cru,
its not hard at all for me to swallow he's guilty, have you been reading my posts? The elaborate drug trafficing, that's hard, I told you I've met some of these clowns (drug dealers) They are about as organized as a middle school kid sitting the back of the room using the excuse the dog ate my homework. About as bright as a black crayon....need I go on...
06/10/08 @ 3:51 pm
Clam,
Let me hip you..a hung jury is a mistrial. Its the first step then a judge declares a mistrial. I do know a juror and you are calling that person "disgusting and despicable". By watching the trial you know that, for sure.
If there was a new trial and he was found guilty, what would you scream then?
06/10/08 @ 3:44 pm
Clam, please look up some basic criminal law before you put your foot in your mouth again... Crap trial doesn't equal mistrial..go on a criminal law search or something...
06/10/08 @ 3:42 pm
Clamshelli...
You know nothing about the criminal justice system. You know nothing about me? My circle of friends? or even what my race is? So you've now just shown how without all the facts how ignorant people can be.
06/10/08 @ 3:37 pm
Bitter,
The trial which I saw..could be crap. This alone doesn't make him innocent. I'm not insulting anyone. I can see both sides but as you've proven time and time again that you can't. You've screamed CM is innocent so loudly that I think he can hear you.
A crap trial does not an innocent man make.
I can site many crap trials that didn't mean the person was innocent.
You need to see both sides of the story.
06/10/08 @ 3:25 pm
Bitter,
You can use DNA that is years old. 72 hours is nothing. Catch up on your forensics.
Charles Manson was sentenced to death based on one thumb print. Let me guess he's not guilty either. He was actually leading a group of Peace Corps voluteers.
06/10/08 @ 3:19 pm
Bitter...you are just that bitter. If you read me correctly you will see I said might be?
All of you in the CM fan club. He's been moved to Shirly which is medium security not maxium like Walpole so maybe he'll find a friendly chess partner.
Have all of you forgotten that I mother is dead? Is CM slipping you money to keep his fight up?
06/10/08 @ 3:10 pm
Cru,
You are just on fire about this. Let me just say, why is it so hard to swallow that CM might be guilty..despite how the trial went?
06/10/08 @ 3:07 pm
I know a jury member..please... and O.J. didn't kill Nicole as well..
06/10/08 @ 3:01 pm
Cru
The only thing you've said right. A woman is dead and a child will grow up without her mother. But a man is fighting for his life behind bars. Why? Because a woman is dead.
The "drug paradise" ? You need to be writting drama for t.v. maybe movies with that line.
I've worked in the criminal justice system, met some of the heavy hitters, they aren't exactly brain trusts. So your dramatic quips don't exactly hold water with me. People needs to wake up and not actually believe that CM is being held down by the man as you tell it.
06/10/08 @ 2:28 pm
Crusader..you really believe what you are saying?
Its Cedar Junction not a country club. Being shanked isn't uncommon. I have had several friends who have been guards there. There was a "lifer" who stabbed his cell mate and threw him off the 3rd tier because his notebook was moved. This is the element you are dealing with. All this rambling on about this great "mob war" are you kidding? What I see lots of people watching too many movies and too much tv. Please use your talent for good not ridiculous. This is Cape Cod. The dealers are very low level. We aren't talking the Bloods,Crips,Outlaws,MS 13 and ABZ from the big cities. Get a grip people.
06/10/08 @ 2:12 pm
Do you all read what you are writting? Christopher is in MCI Cedar Junction, inmates get "shanked" all the time. The only reason why this made news is because of who it is. There is no big behind the scenes storyline. I think you all have to stop watching the Lifetime Movie channel and pick up a book. Educate yourselves.
06/10/08 @ 10:08 am
Despite the color of a person, its Cedar Junction...need I say more?
05/28/08 @ 12:59 pm
Cap'n, I do give you credit for hiring someone with extra "issues". Most people don't give people any chance. You've at least done it with one.
But judges do more than just say "bad boy". Visit the juvie lock ups and see how overcrowed they are. Let me also iform you they are entering younger and younger. Its not uncommon to see an 11 year old showing up in full shackles and waist chains. The judges aren't as permissive as you are making them seem. They are doing their job. I will say that doesn't mean they all learn something by being locked up.
I also want to say for all those who think that juvie lock-up is like sleep away camp. What sleep away camp makes you strip down to your birthday suit in front of two staff that you just met 5 minuets before?
05/28/08 @ 9:10 am
I want to say, I am playing the other side for a minuet. The 2 brothers are known to the legal system before. This isn't there first time in front of a judge. Keeping that in mind, how many of you out there would hire someone with a criminal history?
I bet most of you would say, NO.
I have worked with juvies and that can be an issue. I am not saying that if they have no job they should go out and rob people. But some do try to change and they can't even get a job sweeping up popcorn at the movies. The Cape is a small place bad reputations go far.

I agree they aren't exactly "thrifty" in what most people think of the word but I got $120 Dansko Clogs for $50. Those are high quality shoes that you can keep for years. To me that is a savings. I have gotten a few items like that. They weren't a dollar or two but they were high end items in great condition and for the quality a great deal.
On a side note, I love your blog and look forward to seeing where you are going next. Keep it up :-)

In response to: Forget the "quick fix" of incarcerating drug offenders
I am going to play the other side for a minute. I want to say I have worked in the criminal justice system and worked with very young offenders.
I do agree with treating an addict but if they have broken the law they still need to be held accountable.
I feel this way for a few reasons. When you deal with people that have addiction , you quickly realize that unless they are ready to clean up they won't. A true addict is that way. They don't care what they do, who they hurt and what gets taken away from them. They will say anything to please some. Many would go to treatment for their first drug offense rather than face jail time. That doesn't mean they really want treatment, it just means they don't want jail. If they don't really want it it won't work.
The argument if herion was legal tomorrow would you use it is old. Never been a strong one. There are many people who are constantly on the fence but the idea of jail or just an arrest screwing up their lives is just enough to keep them in check.
I do feel the drug laws are too high but I feel if treatment was included, a good mix.

He is slinging BS about the very place he wanted to work in. He wanted a career in politics and because that dream went over like a fart in church, he's just bitter. There is no insight in his observations. Its just bitter. Please when you are going to write take a look at what your typing. Are people out there driving with their eyes open? The accidents have been insane. Doesn't make me want to get out there behind the wheel.
12/05/07 @ 9:44 am
Hey Tim, Do you know why it took 4 police cruisers to stop someone in a red SUV on Freeman's Way in Brewster last night around 7:30 pm? I went right past it and that was odd.

Didn't hear anything...but my suspicion was it was either drugs or there were outstanding warrants and the initial officers called for backup-TC

I know the man in the Exit 7 Fiery Crash. He's a single dad with two small kids who depend on him, please everyone just keep good thoughts for him and his kids.
10/31/07 @ 9:31 am
It is very unfortunate. I have to say people aren't paying attention on Route 6. I've had some close calls with people in a daze and just plain forgetting they are driving on a highway. Yesterday I was at the point on Route 6 when its going down to a single lane. Ther person behing me in a SUV, I drive a much smaller car, just keeps trying to move me over,at this point its seconds from being a single lane and the SUV just passed me to be first. CRAZY PEOPLE!!! I grew up driving in the city and I had much less drama.
10/30/07 @ 9:00 am
What's with all the accidents? I thought they might slow down after the tourists left but WOW!!! They just seem to be constant. Do drivers out there need a refresher driver's ed class? What's the deal? Maybe someone should make a care with all over bumpers? What's the solution? There is no T service on Cape Cod.

So now all single income families live in Section 8? What? Do you think before you speak? What about them being 2 income families or not? I know some are, doesn't mean its good income. You can have 2 people working and barely be able to survive. You just know nothing about nothing..Wait do you hear that..Capemom its the call of the carpoolers... Oh and one more last thing, don't ever put words in my mouth. You have no idea what I think about the class someone is in. NO IDEA!! In response to: Cape Cod...the Ghetto?
I really don't know where to start. First, the word ghetto is very offensive, its clear Viv you've never been poor or just watch too much "Nick at Night".
Second, Section 8 housing is necessary. If it wasn't for that most of us would be tripping over people sleeping and living on the street on our way to work. Not all people who live in Section 8 are criminals, most are the working poor. They are trying to make it. Most are also home grown Cape Codders not from some where else.
Third, I have known through working in the criminal justice system 2 of the Cape's biggest drug dealers, one is locked up, one is still out there both born at Cape Cod Hospital.
10/15/07 @ 1:09 pm
Did people hear the lastest? The crash "victim" had been at a party, where he hit his pregnant girlfriend and then going 70 miles a hour crashed into the tree. There was no blanket!! Funny but stupid excuse for the crash. What a Tool!!!!

dagny..Those two could definatly win the Jerry Springer "Couple of the Year" award. Tom & Katie have nothing on them ;-)
10/11/07 @ 8:47 am
The two "notorious" "women" that were arrested yesterday...all I have to say is "YAHOO!!!" The idea those two "women" have been roaming around free is beyond disgusting. They beheaded a dog, what did that dog do to deserve that? Now there selling pills, hmmm? I guess torturing and brutalizing animals didn't pay the bills. The scary thing is, when they were arrested there were two adorable puppies in their car. Hopefully they will go to a safe and loving home , not back to the wanna-be gangstas.
09/26/07 @ 10:24 am
Cape99, When did I idealize Cape Cod in my statement? When? Never. I've actually worked with the juvies on Cape Cod, most days I see a name of a kid I knew in the police blotter. Keeping that in mind, its still not the Bronx!
One more thing, you were in high school 27 years ago,1980, its 2007. You think maybe the cost of things might have risen a bit? You think? Also since 9-11 the cost of security has really gone up. Didn't get much of an education back in Cambridge in 1980, too busy listening to the "Go-Go's"
09/25/07 @ 2:20 pm
And a BIG high-five goes out to Nee Nee!!
You can't imagine how many parents are out there you just don't have the first idea about parenting.
A piece of advice the adult is the parent and the child is the what?? CHILD!!! Please do not confuse.
09/25/07 @ 8:42 am
Cape99...are you aerious? Do you have any idea how expensive metal detectors are and hiring the staff to man them. This is Barnstable High not the Bronx. I have worked with youth that have committed serious offenses on this island but let's get real this is still Cape Cod. Let' step back and look at it, he smoked some herb and had a pelt gun. He wasn't selling crack with a Glock 9 in his waist band. So let's all bring it back to reality.

Nicole what you are doing is commendable. Those care packages mean more then people know to the men who are serving for who? For US! I think everyone should stop and think about that for a minuet. These people are not drafted, they chose to serve out country in a time of war and we should never loose sight of that. I am not just saying that because someone I care about is on that list (PP). I am saying that because it is true. Keep doing what you're doing Nicole because girl its working.
07/24/07 @ 8:37 am
Its crazy out there. People have been so self absorbed with what they have to do or where they have to go, some just don't even look out for anyone else.
A few days ago I observed in about an hour, a guy backing out of his parking space not looking in his mirrors or even behind him. I saw someone on route 6 fail to see the sign that its about to go down to one lane and seemed very shocked when he had to slam on his breaks to avoid a multiple car crash when there was no road left. I also saw about 1/2 dozen kids riding quickly and not paying any attention on major areas, route 134, with no helmets. Don't we have a helmet law for bikes in MA?
Its just senseless and crazy..anyone else feel that way???
07/20/07 @ 10:07 am
I agree with Melena...drugs are everywhere. Its just not as black issue either, to who ever made that comment earlier. Some of the kids moving the drugs are white. Drugs goes across all color lines, when are people going to wake up and get that. Don't think because of your zip code you are a drug free area because I am sorry it doesn't work that way.
07/19/07 @ 12:31 pm
Capemom and Buzz, Talking without knowledge again...When I worked with youth with "issues" that area was where they all came from. Its wasn't just one large drug dealer, by the way he's doing 12 years as we speak, but there are others. Plus its not the organized type of gang but there is always a street "turf" war being fought. Seriously don't joke unless you have clue on what goes on.

Capemom, You couldn't be more right. You'd be amazed at how many kids I saw come to me in chains at 12/13 years old. Or the 16 and 17 year olds that have a CORI 4 to 5 pages long.
You hit the nail on the head all of these kids age and are the future. Its much better if they can be of service to us insted of sitting around waiting to be paroled.
The moving of the kids is an option and has been done but the amount of organized gang activity in certain areas of MA is staggering. You'd run out of places to shuffle them to.

It is a shame there is no money for these kids because what always strikes me, if you ask people do you wnat these kids next door, the answer is usually no. Keeping that in mind people still won't give any money towards the DYS system either, its so sad.

Capemom, You make some interesting points (finally ;)). The welfare refrom reduces the number of children as well as set in place a time limit. It also reinforeced the idea of getting a job. I know many of my friends who do that work, they work in programs that are just focused on women transitioning from welfare to jobs.
Would she have had kids with assitance available? Maybe ? Maybe not? You never know.
I still can't agree with you on the government creating a weak family. I know almost as many success stories about kids brought up on welfare as I do the opposite.
I also know has many with kids brought up in working class, middle and upper middle class homes, both positive and negative.
As I have said many times, its not that clear cut when you are talking about people. Its not as easy as comparing "thing" "objects" "product". Never as black and white and that can be frustrating.
I'll also say its not as easy as just taking the pill and working on your GPA either. Its just not that simple.

You know this mom well? WIC will run out for each kid when they hit 5 yrs old. So will the free daycare. Food vouchers, ever had to use them? There are a huge range of items they don't cover. Also Section 8 in Brewster is better than Boston, I'll agree with that but it doesn't cover everything. It will only cover the rent, just the rent. Free tution at 4 c's, the mom can only be on assitance for 2 yrs and then she has to be actively looking for a job or in a training program or in school because after 2 yrs her assitance drops significantly. It really isn't the gravey train people think it is.
As for her relationship married or not there are never 100% guantees that anyone will stick around, I've seen 18 year marriages break up. You also really don't know if she's not marrying the guy because she wants to keep getting assitance, you're not even sure if he's the dad.
Please read what I post above your post an this this one and let it sink in. Life just isn't that black and white. I bet you watch alot of Lifetime T.V. don't you ?

Capemom where do you get your stats? Because Human Services is a huge industry and they don't think like you. So 10's of millions might be a stretch...a little bit.
I wasn't talking about the CEO made for t.v. sterotype when I was talking about intact homes. Most of the immigrant familes are intact homes and let me tell you the work hard, 2 sometimes 3 jobs.
Now a days everyone goes into the DYS system those private "boot camps" are few and far between.
Main reason for kids on Cape Cod for getting locked up, drugs. Very profitable market. Most of those kids run the spectrum on level of income from their families.
One more piece of info. the Brewster facility is state involved so you get kids from ALL over. Gang kids from Lowell to kids from Western Mass not just Cape kids.

For the record the government isn't just handing over money that easily. Please everyone get there facts straight.
Buzz, there are no rewards..people aren't living in the lap of luxury off the government...WHAT!!! You need to read the reform laws that happened in the 90's, they also aren't getting rewards for more children. Its not as out of control than you think.

Capemom, I'd say maybe 40%? Once again you are aswering questions from 2 posts ago. You are getting better. Where is your information coming from? Have you known even one young unwed mom?
Your statement about a mature 18 yr old on birth control might get a scholarship...you obviously didn't have one because no matter what the circumstances are scholarship money does take work...always has..always will?
Raising a child also takes work, the government isn't just throwing money out the window at them. Do you have an idea on how much help they actually get? Not usually enough to live on. I know a single mom with a son who is getting 400 a month. That is all. That is for her rent, basic utilties, food..etc..

Yes, minorities overall have a higher percentage of being incarcarated. All minorites not just the black community. Since I myself am a minority, I don't fail to notice that there are people in crisis. You should remember the saying about "assume" before you post.
Since I have focused all of my education ..(2 degrees) and my career on the staple of a population of at risk individuals, I fail to see where I am in denial?

If not that is unbeleivably sterotyping if I ever heard it. That is not me being "p.c." as you call it, that is the truth. Let me ask you did you ask a guy to see his bank statement before you went on a date with him?
Also my "p.c." is preventing me from the hard cold truth, are you kidding? I live it, I have worked with this population for a LONG time. How many DYS kids do you know or at risk youths? I believe that women are of equal EVERYTHING that men are, that is just a plain stupid question.
I am not making excuses for everyone but some women believe they can handle their lives and they can't. Some have it very good for the first few years maybe more then things don't work out the way it was planned. Some are doing everything right and kids still end up behind bars.
Just the fact that you are single and pregnant doesn't equal "DYS kid".
Not everything in life is SO black and white. Life isn't that simple. I am sorry you can't grasp that concept. I wish you could meet these kids and families maybe it would open that closed narrow mind of yours.

Crusader, there are plenty of youth groups and people who are hear for kids. Open your eyes Big Brothers Big Sisters have been on the cape for 34 yrs. There is a YMCA and Boys& Girls Club and the Juice Bar.
The gang activity and youth crime rate are much higher in Boston and the surrounding areas. In those areas there are youth groups EVERYWHERE so your argument they work is wrong. They work for some but not all.
The cape also does a VERY good job in detaining the youth that need it. Take a look at the 3 programs in Brewster, Barnstable County Jail, Teamworks in Plymouth...etc..
Just stop HATING on the cape..kids hang in malls everywhere and some are good and some aren't. Do you remember what it was like to be young at all?

Its almost as much fun as two screaming children with a loaded diaper.
I just love being at the beach reading a good book, sitting in the sun and having a cool drink and screaming children are running everywhere kicking up sand all over and the parents are engrossed in their conversation or keep saying "honey don't, stop running" and the child keeps doing it!!!! At least my dog is on a leash. You can't leash a child, do you think they should be banned from the beach???

Capemom, You have your head in the sand, clearly you do. By your posts, everything is your way of thinking or its wrong, that is it just plain WRONG. I am sure your kids are the little robots you've programed them to be. Your husband is just a larger version saying lots of "yes dear" and "honey, what time is out tee-time"
My husband is a grown man and probably had experiences that you've onlyread about when you are alone and none of your country club mini-van soccer moms aren't looking. He's toured with rock bands as security and been a mixed martial arts fighter. When he started working with kids is when he slowed down. He will look just as good as anyone else looks with wrinkles as I will. Live for today and worry about the future when it comes. You miss alot of life if you worry about 15 years from now. WOW, you must have big frown/worry lines...don't do Botox that would be an enhancement..you know what that leads to.
I hope you stop judging before you hit nursing home age or you know where your headed.

All I can say I can't wait for your RUDE awakening when your kids grow up and have a mind of their own. Oh wait, they'll be YOUR kids so they won't have a mind of their own, they'll be whatever you'll tell them to be.
One final thing, just watch the comments about my husband...he has more class and above all moral character than anyone related or associated with you could ever dream about. Funny you chose the word "equipped" Does he require batteries of will a long extention cord do?

Capemom,You have a some "set" to make a judgement on my husband. I do love my career but he can support me if needed. You are crazy to think he can't. Its not 100's and 1000's of dollars spent. Women and men, straight ones , spend omney all the time to change their appearance to suit them. Hmmm.. gym memberships, teeth whiting and straightening, haircuts and at times color, the right clothes and shoes, laser eye surgury...etc...
I shouldn't have to defend him but he is a hardworking (40+ hrs) a week, never had anything more than a speeding ticket and moral man. He would NEVER even think of screwing around on me and looks down on men who do.
When women take care of themselves that is never the way of thinking, why such a double standard? I hope you are raising your kids in the year 2007 to be open minded and get to know people before passing judgement.
One last thing, obviously you've never been with a man with a tongue ring or you'd never ask why...sorry !!!

That is the most judgemental comeback yet, Capemom...and you've had some good ones!! Where do you have the understanding to judge anyone? Who do you think you are? Do you know anyone who has a tattoo or gets them...its NOT about being a freak. What opportunities has my husband missed?? Anything he's wanted to do, he's done. Its never held him back. We go all over and everywhere and people don't stare at him, he's not a twisted circus freak. He is not at all like the women not "bimbo" who has many surgeries. He does everything for him unlike you he could care less what people think. The people who count will accept him for who he is not what he looks like. Maybe when you move into this century you'll understand that? As for the text book comment, why don't you read one before you get so knowlegable about a subject, sociopaths, that you know nothing about.

Buzz, why is this such a sensitive topic? There are kids in school with 2 moms and 2 dads along side with kids with mom&dad with one parent or a grandparent. It doesn't make a difference to a kid, they accept differences its the adults that have the issue.

Let's all take it back a step...let's get off the sex talk ( no pun intended). The bill is saying lets not talk about sexual orientation, that has nothing to do with what goes on behind closed doors. When you speak about "little Johnny's mom and dad" does sex enter the conversation? It doesn't. So why should it if you are talking about "little Johnny's mom&mom..or dad&dad"? That is what the bill is trying to prevent. Its not right in the year 2007, just not right!!!

Bittersweet, I do hear what you are saying and I am sorry for some the issues that you've dealt with, its unfair. But I do know of Americans who are all squished in a 2 bedroom apartment with several family members.
I have also been on the hiring end of things. I would hire an American teenager/college student. They couldn't work at this time or that, they'd call in sick when a nice beach day arose..etc..etc.. I'd hire a foreign worker and they couldn't work enough an I was usually one of two jobs.
Capemom, just STOP making such ridiculous statements when other people are trying to have a good conversation. Do you hear yourself??? Go back into your narrow-minded self-important box.

Bittersweet, I am not making excuses but many familes when they come here, they all come together. Moms,Dads,Aunts,Uncles etc...close family friends..etc.. They all work, they all share the money as one. How many American familes do that? That is one way they get further.
Many landlords are friends or relatives of friends so they are more relaxed on them all being jammed in one home. Plus they don't mind being all jumbled up, because they accept that is the way it is. Imagine an American "tween", they get upset if they don't have the fashionable cell phone or IPOD.
I have worked with many foreign seasonal workers from all over and its true, the American dollar goes twice as far at least in another country. Most of those workers think nothing of two jobs at a time and banging out a 16 hour day of hard work. Once again, how many Americans do that? How many do a 60 plus work week? I know some but its few and far between.
I hope that gives you a little insight.

Who do you think works and cleans..etc the luxury places on the Cape? Is it the rich? The entitled? No its the working poor. They are the ones working 12 to 16 hours a day to make the Cape a luxurious place to stay. They are the ones in need of affordable housing. With your logic everyone who isn't in health care should move so all the laborers, food and beverage workers, hospitality workers, gas attendents, cleaning people, retail workers and beauty and spa workers should just vacate...because of the high cost of living. With your logic the cape wouldn't be the beutiful place to live. First off, Where did those figures come from because they are way off base. Its understood that there is a difference between illegal immigrants and non-citizen. A BIG ONE!!!
Most "illegals" if they are convicted of certain offenses are shipped back to their country to serve time. Also most illegals actually keep a low profile so they are detected. So exactly were did your "stats" come from. I think you have no idea the difference between "illegal" and "resident alien".
Buzz, get out the airplane bag, have you done hiring. Ask around its proven fact that illegals and not just in Califoria so jobs that Americans turn their nose up at. Even right here on Cape Cod. Its amazing how many people cry the illegals are taking all the jobs but when asked if they would do the same one, its a big NO and I don't mean for $2 an hour either.

When I heard of the murder I was shocked. She is a prominent woman in her area. Now I have both a B.S. and a M.S. in Criminal Justice but still when a person who is known to an area as an accomplished woman its shocking. Then I saw her face while she was being arraingned and my shocked turned to compassion and saddness. The look in her eyes can't be faked she clearly is an abused woman who was in fear for her life. I clearly understand that its alleged but how can anyone forget her face. She is clearly the face of domestic violence...It should be an eye opener for all.

Mopo..you are the one providing the information on your parenting and slamming me with the typical petty comment "blah blah...we'll see were your kids are at...blah..blah" is equavelent to a schoolyard bully. I actually thought you were smarter than that and at least had more class.
When you speak about a country that you have zero knowlege on, at least try to spell the country correctly, then it might lend a little validation to what you are rambling about.
Yarm, thank you for providing some intellgent comments. Its true people cry outrage now but if one of the twenty-two had killed someone or themselves in a DUI people would be crying outrage for another reason.

Mopo, I really hope you are joking about some of your comments...because you do have kids and you are revealing way too much about your attitude an enviroment they are in.
Marijuana is illegal, whether its right or wrong is at this time pointless since it is what it .
If you think its a harmless drug ask a Colombian family they may not see it the same way. If you can't go to Gosnold and ask how some of them go there they may say their road started with one joint.

First off its the year 2007, its not the 70's anymore.
Second, Have you worked with juveniles?
I had your attitude of the "gateway drug" until, I worked with "juvies"
Kids learn from an early age what is right and what is wrong from who? Their parents.
The backward sterotype that "idiot parents" are the main reason why kids end up in the system, is old. I can say from my professional experience not always true, not at all.
Let me say, the comments to Mopo have some merit since what she has devulged is illegal, let me hip you, smoking pot is illegal.
Now who has a lot to learn about parenting?

Ray, There are several sweat-shops being run across the country, especially in urban area. There aren't "throw backs" in this area of business. Are you really that surprised about the government contract? The only part of that I am is that the owner would accept the contract since that drew attention to him. He could have gone for a LONG time unnoticed.

Manatee, Assumption is a fine line to walk is it. I'm not that old not by a long shot. As of yet I have no kids because I'm not that old. I have also worked in the juvenile justice system for awhile, a long awhile and what I have seen is some parents who had the "I did it" attitude toward something as minor as just underage drinking. Then they say it towards smoking pot. Then towards teen sex. Before they know it they have a prescription drug addict who uses pot to take the edge off and as a source of money or pills. They have had some sexual transmitted disease or maybe a child. They might know be in custody for any of the above or since they are underage and feel they are already invinceable, they have a DUI charge or worse they injured or killed someone while high or drunk. If you thimk I am over dramatizing, its a very slippery slope and it can happen to parents of all walks of life.

Capri, let me lay it out all nice and simple. What the chamber of commerece did to the tourism industry is equal to publishing in BOLD TYPE the calories on the front wrapper of your favorite candy bar. Its scary when the one job of The Chamber is to make Cape Cod look like the place to stay ..not make people question it. Its so sad. Capri do you have any idea how many people survive on the tourism industry on Cape Cod? It doesn't sound like you have any idea.

Hey Tim, I saw the accident on route 6 near exit 10. It looked ugly. There were 4 police cruisers in the eastbound lane with the accident along with a fire truck and EMT. Then there was a police cruiser in the westbound lane. The truck was a large pickup and it looked like he crossed route 6 and rocketed into the trees. You couldn't pass it without wondering what caused that.

Capri, You listed many contirbutions that Oprah has made, you didn't forget any? A medical breakthrough? An exorcism? The solution to world peace? Solved the world economy? I think you need to put her in some perspective. She is a woman of color who has broken some barriers for women on t.v. She has also given up money to charitable causes and through that made a difference on certain levels but you have her up for sainthood.

i think you are both right. I do feel many times that Oprah has forgotten who she is. That she really isn't that important in the great scheme of life. She does take herself too seriously.
I also think that she has done alot for women and how her high profle has brought attention to certain social causes.
Do I think that the world has been remarkably changed because she is in it? No.

Having worked with kids in the DYS system. I would meet 14 year old kids and older who couldn't read. Even basic "ABC's". Yet when you looked in their files they were grade appropriate.
One thing schools I feel need to do is really stress the basics and then go from there.
I'm not seeing schools who are looking at establishing a strong foundation for kids to grow from.
Many school are so focused on the status of the new gym, new computer lab or the new paint job. If a child can reach almost the end of his school years and can't read that is an issue!!
Mon..I hope you where trying to make things light but YOUR mom being half Portuguese doesn't count. Also do you same Cape Cod I do there are plenty of kids here, which English is a second language...you don't need to go to Holyoke!!

Mon..the friendship of TWO Hispanic kids does not make you a knowlegable spokesperson for the community. The Hispanic community isn't as held down by society as you might discover, if you were to take a closer look.
Teachers/Staff is what influences a child to really learn. I think you'd be surprised at what would happen if you dropped the Nauset staff in Holyoke.

Mopo...what you said sounded great,it did get me thinking because some of your comments are statements of private school. When? and where are you talking? because none of that sounds like public school.
Capemom..I'm not glossing over anything.
My mom grew up very poor, my dad just poor. That's where the cycle stopped. I know many people where that is the case. Just because you grew up poor doesn't mean your chidren will grow up to be poor.
Children who want to learn will despite crumbling plaster, limited computer access and other hurdles in your poorer school.
There was a time before all the "high tech" options where an option and it really wasn't that long ago. Children still managed to grow up and be successful.

Capemom,
With government involvement there are many communities that are schools that are poor and unstable. So what would be the difference.
Also not all POOR communities have "crack moms". Its amazing some have hardworking moms, despite being poor.
Poverty doesn't always go hand and hand with drug addiction.
WOW, for somone who says they don't mean to sound elitist..you hit the mark everytime.
All I have to say is "GET OUT THERE" experience life, just stop looking at it with this "I feel sorry for.." tunnel vision.

Mcfly, I think the way the world is now, you can see half doing well in each walk of life. I've worked in the juvenile system and its staggering how the tide has turned. It doesn't matter affluent or poor or two parents or one, the juvenile system is filling up with both now.
I do AGREE with you caring parent or parent does help in the log run.

Capemom, That was a small fraction of examples. Its not "Pollyanna" it the way the world is. Get out there!!
Affluence doesn't equal success by definition.
Poor doesn't equal unsuccessful by definition.
You need to look at your "Leave it to Beaver Land/WASP" view of the world.
Another tip, poor people aren't all sitting around looking for a savior.
Some of them can work hard to bring themselves up.
"the great white hope" isn't always the answer.

Capemom...you need to open your mind or broaden the people in your circle.
I have some examples for you to think about.
A girl who grew up in E. Boston, in a household with two parents who spent multiple turns in the prison system but went on to get a master's degree in marine biology.
Another girl grew up with a single mom, who worked a million hours but remained at poverty level in Dorchester and she grew up to get a master's degree in special education.
One more girl who grew up affluent but English is a second language and managed to find her way to graduate school and never felt "lost from birth"
A boy who has a two parent household in an affluent community and managed to drop out of school at 16 and use drugs regularly and end up in the juvenile system.
So tell me Capmom how does you theory work? There are more Deval Patrick's out there than you can imagine, open your eyes, please.
Lastly, for all to think on, Has anyone seen a copy of the MCAS test? Does anyone think taking it would have made a difference in their lives?
09/28/06 @ 10:52 am
bubslola [Member]
In response to: Props to Nauset Regional High School
I've been the discussion and I have a question to pose, does everyone remember the days before MCAS? Many, many people ended up making great lives for themselves without the test. So why is this such a focus on how the youths today will turn out?

I'm also taken back by some of the comments.
There are many people in which English is a second language and aren't "lost at birth" as a result. Many not only make it through high school but go as far as graduate school.
Being affluent is neither here nor there most of the time when it comes to school. If you do your research plenty of youths from both poor and affluent households make it and do very well.
Two parent households aren't always the key. There are plenty of two parent households that are a mess, they have kids who drop out or end up in the juvenile system.
If you have a strong teaching staff that can be the key. Kids can learn in almost any setting. They just need a strong motivator and that's what a great teacher is.

I just have to support the comments that the illegal immigrants are taking jobs that Americans don't want.
I've worked in plenty of service industry jobs that illegal&legal immigrants are working in because no else is willing to do the job.
I've seen Americans screaming "poor" and that there are no jobs.
I've also seen those same Americans "poo-poo" certain jobs that people who scrape and struggle to be in this country are more than happy to do the jobs.
You need to go after the employers because without anyone monitoring them closly they will fill certain jobs with anyone because the jobs need to be filled.
People are kidding themselves if they really thinking that Americans are having their jobs taken.
Look into the jobs immigrants are taking and ask yourself who you know that would take that job?

Look at what he's taken a stand on.
Let's shall we?
He's an OPENLY GAY MAN who is not in support of GAY MARRIAGE!!!
Another idea he had.....
He wanted to purge the cape of Sex Offenders....don't get me wrong that's a good thing in theory...BUT

He said it publically.

Think about what it would be like? Everyone else because of their beliefs can marry and you can't. Why? Because "they" are so much better than"you"? Is it a little more clear to you now? WOW, Aaron has some real support, of coarse its coming from people who don't know him. Because.." to know him isn't to love him". On the point of Aaron being a noble man. Does a noble person turn his back of support to the community in which he chooses to live in (the gay community)? Being an openly gay man and not being in support of gay rights is like being a woman and not being in support equal rights for women. Now to Mcfly as for your elementary knowlege of the foster care system. I don't think a rehibilitated prositute that did the profession strictly for survival can compare to being a foster child on Cape Cod. To describe Aaron as a "strong type of man" you've clearly never met him, for even 5 minutes.
