I left Orleans at 8:30 yesterday morning to go to Northampton, a three hour drive in normal times. At 10:45, I crossed the Sagamore bridge!! The only bright note was that there was no jockeying for position when we went to one lane.
Returning yesterday afternoon at 4:00, it looked like the 24/7 schedule was canned !! Two state troopers, a Bourne cruiser, and two laborers was all I saw. No work being done. WHAT A COUNTRY!!! There really has to be a better way; even sticking to the plan might help.

I read with interest the current issue of the Cape Codder, and on page 51 there is a large advertisement asking one and all to come to the Bookstore for a "romantic dinner overlooking Wellfleet Harbor". Having read the above report from Peter Robbins about the lack of insurance; the fact that as of January 22, no permit had been issued for a septic system, how can the editors or anyone else in that community continue to look the other way so that this place can continue to put at risk the health and well being of the customers who know nothing of the shortcomings of this "romantic" spot.
It is now almost one year since the management has been told to present a plan for a remedy to the problem they created several years ago.
There is no need here to remind the town fathers that 95 customers or less can be seated, in the event a new septic system is installed in the next 7 days.

What a great country!! It's not licensing and water woes that have beset the Bookstore. It is out and out "up yours" by the owners to the town. I moved here four years ago, and by chance read the first offering by Mr Robbins concerning the demise of this place. I asked a few questions of the Mr/Ms Clamshelli, and my personal "crewsade" was on. There have been a total of 418 blog statements regarding this issue. Clamshelli ranted ad nausam of the kindness of the owner in helping the townsfolk and others in time of need. No one ever doubted her sincerity,save the vast majority of the 418 who posted here. Does anyone in that town have the balls to say"enough is enough"?? They have flaunted every board dictate and have used the guise of "water supply" to keep the issue alive.
Would it be improper to tell the owners to remain closed until the issues have been resolved?? Would it be considered prudent to have a meal at a place that has no insurance and by the health dept telling them there are "food issues"??

The good doctor may be punished every day for the rest of his life, but his eight year old son is in a very cold and forlorn spot here on the Cape. I drive by there everyday and like a dope, I stopped a few days ago to reflect on the recent events that caused me to be in that cemetery looking at a makeshift memorial to this young lad. It made me so angry to think that this little kid was here on the Cape in a cemetery,rather than at home in Connecticut getting ready for Christmas.

I'm beginning to think that Clamshelli is really Renee Richards in disguise. Remember her/him?? He was the New york dentist,Richard Raskin, who decided to have the "stuff" changed and voila, we have a tennis pro in the women's division. This certainly not to say that the old Clammer has had a sex change, but boy can he/she bounce the ball around on all sides of the court.
I guess you are right about not learning much during this little episode. As a guy that for the most part plays by the rules, it is really galling to me to have them just shove it up the poopers of the townsfolk and the rest of us in the neighboring environs.
I'm wondering how Moe Barrabas sp. can be "enthused with the progress".Has he been waiting since 1987?? Maybe they don't use calanders in Wellfleet. A lot of deposit slips,tho.

If an accident on the main artery of a town in the middle of tourist season happens at 2:45, I would think that all the"reconstruction" in the world would take less than 3 hours.

With all due respect to the comments of Mr Robbins,I'm looking at a copy of the minutes of the Wellfleet Board of Health meeting on August 8,2007, where Agent Greenberg stated there was "statuary system failure" and that the "PROPERTY OWNER"was ordered to provide an "upgrade" The agent noted that the "prior septic system from 1980 " was designed for 93 seats" not the 247 seats found at "the present time" Mr Parlante was to report back to the Board of Health within 6 months with "engineered plans for the required upgrade"
On February 21,2008,Ms Beebe stated that The Bookstore had hired an engineering firm "to provide septic upgrade plans" and that they would be ready "for the next meeting" Chairs had not been removed as ordered, and Agent Greenberg stated that the Board is "very frustrated that the Parlantes have not responded to theirenforcement orders"
The "Dog" can go on ad nausem about the foot dragging of the Parlantes, but might it be a good idea to close the place until an adequate septic and water system is in place??

The "lynch mob" in my view are merely folks in the area that saw how the elders in your town looked the other way for almost twenty years and let the Bookstore pollute and over fill this gourmet dining spot. It doesn't appear to me that any issues have been resolved!! The fact that the DEP made a "ssurprise" visit tells me the jig is up. It's one month from the onslaught of the mainland diners. Do you think everything is going to be feelin' fine by then?? They should be shut down until there is water and septic in place, and about 150 chairs removed. GREED??? Who invented that word???

I happened to be in Wellfleet yesterday and drove by the Bookstore.I didn't see any construction equipment or mounds of dirt where a septic system might be in the early stages of construction. Anyone who can condone that needs to look at what is going on in that area. I don't know Jacksh-- about the Pearl, and I guess up until now, there is no need. Your friends have done something terribly wrong to the residents of your fair town, and no extensions and surveys etc. should be allowed. It seems to me that the various town departments that have allowed this mess to go on,should be called to task,and you and "your friends" who are being persecuted by your own words, should be quiet,clean up the mess, and thank God they aren't in jail.

As a relatively new reader of this forum, I am confused by the lack of movement by the Wellfleet Board of Health to implement an order that was issued 19 years ago. I am further confused by the comments of some that the Bookstore is being picked on. Isn't it a fact that they are seating almost 150 more diners than permitted?? That alone is reason for concern.
Having eaten several times at the Bookstore since relocating to the Cape, I can say we always had a good meal. I'm just awfully sorry I drank their reverse osmosis generated water. Now if I can stop eating the yellow snow!!
