When I was on the way home from the hospital after major surgery, our car was rear-ended by an old lady who could barely see. I had JUST gotten out of the hospital and nearly had to go right back in because this idiot would not give up her "right" to drive (that is, kill people with 3,000 pounds of steel going 60 mph). At the same time, I could not get my own father to give up the keys. We need mandatory review of driving skills for old folks - voluntary doesn't work.

Question: Should anyone in this story get a slap on the wrist? Mother? Kid? Or chalk it up to experience? All those people dropped everything to look for the child, who apparently was perfectly fine, just distracted. Do rescuers just breathe a sigh of relief and go on to the next call? I'm glad there was a happy ending and the child is OK!

Maybe this WAS a good way for this knucklehead to begin his driving experience! Nobody got killed and hopefully he learned something - unless his parents give him another SUV tomorrow.
