Alberto's Ristorante
Exquisite Northern Italian cuisine served in a casually elegant atmosphere. Main Street, Hyannis. (Hyannis)
Jason's Tavern
Conveniently located in Patriot Square near the movie theatre, Jason's Tavern offers American and international casual dining for the whole family, as well as cocktails, Keno, and early bird specials. (Dennis)

DK Falmouth; "if they're so against Obama's approach, why didn't they try theirs when they controlled all of DC for 6 years?"

Maybe they thought, rightfully, nothing needed to be done, at least on a grand scale.

In response to: Is this governor completely tone deaf?
In addition to violating the state constitution, does this change in the law not also violate the federal prohibition banning the enactment of retroactive legislation? Why is this action not being challenged in federal court as well? Or will it be should this challenge fail, which, of course, it will?

In response to: Don't Stifle Them With Plenty
Jonathan: Only as an illustration of the homogeneity of neighborhoods in those times, not segregation but gravitation of like to like. There was usually an Irish section, an Italian, Jewish, Black, etc. This fostered, I believe, a somewhat closer knit community with more common interests than a more diverse area might have.

I remember the whales. If memory serves, at least some were made by school art students and the class with which I was acquainted had a great time doing it. Fine blog, Ryan, and an excellent presentation.

I stand corrected. You are absolutely correct, if nitpicky. If by unanimous in your derision you mean you agree with yourself, I should certainly hope so for the sake of your mental health. I, too, am unanimous in my complete disregard for your opinion. In fact, I consider it a badge of honor. Additionally, I chuckle at your feeble attempt to flaunt your linguistic prowess by addressing me in Italian. Ottenga una vita.

In response to: Ranking The Holiday Icons
Very good. I enjoyed it but I'd move The Grinch up to #5, add The Shepherds and the Three Kings, and ditch Frosty and the Tiny Reindeer. I never got the tiny reindeer anyway - sometimes they're small and sometimes they're normal sized. Replace the Drummer Boy with the Nutcracker, too. On visual association the 'Cracker evokes Christmas more readily than a kid with a toy drum who could be a fugitive from a Fourth of July pageant.

In response to: Tax Reform. That Is the Question
My dear Ned: As I am fond of informing people like you by way of educating them, as far as is possible given the raw material - Insults are the currency of the intellectually bankrupt. You, my friend, are dead broke.

In response to: Tax Reform. That Is the Question
Apparently no one who is opposed to Question One will admit that raising real estate taxes is only one of many alternative ways to make up the alleged shortfall. The sales ax, which already exempts food and clothing, would continue to do so. When you see that the teachers union has poured big money into fighting this initiative, as the link shows, it kind of makes you think doesn't it?

In response to: Massachusetts Legislature makes right call on gun fee
Looks like it's unanimous in favor of Solon. Add me to that list. The strict gun laws are apparently designed to discourage the ownership of firearms as it is. When will the pols learn that law abiding gun owners are not the problem and the criminals will get them no matter what the law says or how high the fees are raised?

In response to: Do you wish summer was over?
You make my point. I know exactly how to do it, I just get tired of doing it at about this point in the summer and become wistful for off season conditions with summer weather. Just daydreaming. Of course, I agree with your last sentence, I simply wish it weren't so.

In response to: Governor Patrick and Education
You're right on with your assessment. I look forward to your views on Mr.Patrick's alleged plan. Throwing money at the problem (again) won't fix it. We need changes from the ground up, and it needn't be expensive to work.

In response to: Let's Be Fair About Overrides…
Would the simple expedient of adding a phrase to the ballot question to the effect that the issue, whatever the outcome, would be binding for a period of one year and could not be resubmitted in any form during that time, do the trick?

In response to: Let's Be Fair About Overrides…
You're right about the district. My apologies. Second, just because it's the law doesn't mean it's right. I'm sure we can both make a laundry list of things which are legal but with which we profoundly disagree. It is that disagreement with this particular "bedrock…or regional politics" with which I take issue.

Why should towns vote individually in the first place? Why not just go to the regional meeting from the beginning instead of deluding the townspeople into believing that they actually have a voice in the matter?

In response to: Don't Ruin It for Everybody!
I did mention that, and I'm sure others will, too. My point is not that women shouldn't be allowed to play with men. It is that tournaments ought to be permitted to be restricted according to any number of criteria in the interest of fair competition and cameraderie. To choose an extreme example, if all events are to be open to all, then the club champion may enter, and presumably win, a pre-teen tournament. There will be no categories, just tournaments in which the same few will compete and, most likely, win.

Thanks to all who agree. To mscase, there must be some pretty slow learners around. Like idiots who move next to an airport and complain about the noise.

To bipr, Cape Cod should send its miscreants (nice word) to North Jersey. That would be real punishment.

To Ned, watch what you say about Jersey girls. Remember the quartet of 9/11 infamy?

To Monponsett, I don't mind geese but have never tasted coyote. Is it like chicken?
