possee asks,

What IS the final determination of such a meeting place with so many important luminaries possibly attending?
*Seems to be up to Jack @ this point. The big question is, will it be publicized or done via Black Ops?

Is there a cover charge?
*Trolls get in free and sit anywhere they damn well please.

Will food and adult beverages be served?
*I certainly hope so and that there is more than enough, as nothing exceeds like excess.

Will cru and margebuuny sign a peace accord before entry?
*cru and margebuuny are a little too weird to accurately predict.

Will Walter attend and moderate the inevitable debates?
As far as I’m concerned all are welcome and it would be nice to meet Walter.

*Will ned sketch a composite group portrait?
I like the idea of Ana doing a photo essay better.

Who is compass challenged?

Being generally credited as a European invention I’m guessing most native Americans made do without them, using things like celestial navigation, (that would be declination of the sun and stars in relation to the equator), which would leave only certain members of this site who are convinced the sun rises due east.

mav, if you're up for the for a grog and a few laughs, I'm game. I'll be in town from the 29th to the 3rd.

I just have to adjust my compass for v & d first so I can find my way out of the latrine as it’s gotten a little slack in the gimbals over time. Walter,
I may be mistaken but I believe the US hasn’t declared “war” since December 1941 and manatee is correct in his definitions.

As far as empire building, that was pretty much quelled after the Atlantic Charter was signed or not, whichever may be the actual case.

If what you are referring to, as far as obtaining the objective of a military action when you say “war”, I would have to say the liberation of Kuwait, as one example was mildly successful, as were countless other involvements where the US stepped up to the plate for with no personal gain in sight.

My apologies to possee, as I know how facts are a bit of a buzzkill around here but I’m a huge fan of Edwin Newman and I am compelled to answer yes to his question, will America be the death of the English language? That and a pesky little thing called journalistic credibility.

dk, as I explained to the "apparently confused" Editor in another thread when he stated “Compass confuses Tribes; Apparently think Mashpee faces east rather than south”

Popponessett Beach runs primarily north/south, and at any point you could look due east, along the 41’30” N parallel, all the way to Monomy if you have the elevation.

South Beach (now this is the big clue), is at the "southern" tip of Great Neck in Mashpee and at its perigee the sun only reaches 23’30” N so an “unblocked view of the sunrise” would be in an east/southeasterly direction.

Ana Paulina asked, Who is Zippy and who is Grinch?

Grinch as I said before, is an articulate, intelligent (albeit liberal amongst a sea of conservatives) person who doesn't cry for the arrest of the past administration every third post in order to defend his point. He has also proven himself to be capable of defending his statements after only being asked once, thus he is an adversary worthy of debate. He also doesn't play here.

Zippy, aka bitter on the other hand is a tin-foil hat wearing, conspiracy theorist moonbat that post garbage like this in the wake of the Fort Hood shootings:

“…1 shooter 43 victims, I think not!!
This is a set up. I'm waiting for the military to describe him as a member of the oath keepers, too. If he survives he will be placed in solitary confinement and described as a suicidal fanatic. He will never see the light of day nor will the truth. The real shooters will never be revealed as they have already been released and returned to their special ops units…."

Richard, I didn’t realize your ignorance extended as far and wide as it does until I was searching c c today and I tripped over this “pearl of wisdom”:

“...pretending to be driving a nail while clutching the hammer on the handle within a few inches of the head. I mean he's supposed to be doing "framing" with 2-by stock and 14 p. or 16 p. nails..."

The proper description would be 12d or even 16d, which really haven't been used for years.
Never heard of a 14 penny nail, seems no one else has either and they are "sheathing" a wall which would use 6d or 8d max.

Hammer looks like a hickory handled 22oz. to 24 oz. and since he is pointing and not swinging why would he hold 1 ½ lbs. by the handle? Only an dipshit or someone who never has picked one up would make that mistake.

So there you are in your profile picture grinning like a moron after someone told you that you was smarter than an idiot, pretending to actually know what you are writing about.

Why, you ask. Do you really want to know why?

Grinch is an articulate, intelligent (albeit liberal amongst a sea of conservatives) person who doesn't cry for the arrest of the past administration every third post in order to defend his points. He has also proven himself to be capable of defending his statements after only being asked once, thus he is an adversary worthy of debate.

In other words Zippy, there is no tolerance for those that are stuck on stupid.

Back in the late 50’s when Clara Ann Fowler , a.k.a. The Singing Rage, Miss Patti Page was waxing poetically about, "quaint little villages here and there..", the Cape was an idyllic little spit of sand where not much went on.

Prior to the Worthington / Mc Cowen / O'Keefe / Flook circus, the most notorious murder on the Cape was the Lady in the Dunes. The body of a partially dismembered, still unidentified woman was found on a Provincetown Beach, during the summer of ’74. There have been other murders, as the Cape is not immune to the woes of the world, but in the past they were generally crimes of passion.

Recently the trend has shifted to drug / turf wars, gangbangers and punk wannabes. One particularly sad event was the execution style murder of young girl who was mistaken for someone else. Unfortunately this is what the Cape has morphed into. As much as it bothers me to say it, anything you can find in the big cities, you can probably find here.
As one resident was quoted as saying” I liked the old drug dealers better.”

Your statement,

And Richard in his Kumbayah pretext dropped these pearls,

“ As expected, certain people who chime in on this site from the far, far wingnut extreme of the political spectrum, took the bait hook, line and sinker.

"PeeWee?"

“nothing more than a reactionary partisan obstructionist”

“half a brain -at least”

And the obligitory Ronald Reagan related dig, “where the post-Reagan right-wing GOP's head is at.”

Well dk, you waded into this cesspool by your own volition, let’s hear it.

By the way, did you ever hear back from that lawyer friend of yours?

Back on topic, Eisenhower was a hawk in search of peace not a dove by any means.

I'd ask Richard if Ike also said,“A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction.” but that would run counter to his spin.

First off, forums are fantasy land entertainment set up behind the safety of the monitor. Secondly calling someone a troll would be a great “one upper” on the slappy hi-fiving trolls but unfortunately you have mistaken me for someone who actually gives a rat’s ass.

No temper, no anger dk, I enjoy the banter but sometimes you just have to set people straight. If Richard and Ned want to tag team me because Richard can’t handle it on his own then I’ll play. Indeed he was.

Ike, like the rest of the world was tired of being at war but he was also well aware of the fact that, as history has taught us, peace is a fragile commodity and truces rarely last forever.

In my opinion, he based his philosophy more towards the practical than the ideological.

Dk, have you read the entire speech by Eisenhower or just Richard's cherry picked fantasia version?

He seems to have conveniently omitted this line:

“A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction.”

Sound anything like the "peace through superior firepower" Trident missile theory?

It might be helpful reading the whole speech before you go ahead and decide what he would be thinking.

Additionally:
“…in May 1960 Prime Minister Harold Macmillan arranged a deal with President Eisenhower
to equip the V-bombers with the US-designed AGM-48 Skybolt. The Skybolt was a range ballistic missile that allowed the launching bombers to remain well away from Soviet defenses and launch attacks that would be basically invulnerable. With this range, the V-bombers would have to fly only a few hundred miles from their bases before being in range of an attack on Moscow.”

mav,

Barry can’t be a racist, everyone knows socialist aren’t racist, only white conservatives that “act stupidly” are racist. There is no racism in the black community, only in the “whitebread suburbs”.

Just because he sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for 20 years and has James Meeks as a Spiritual advisor, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. And even though he sided with Skippy Gates on national television not knowing anymore than we did, shouldn’t identify him as a racist.

Saying you "disagree" with his writings that:

"... the Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing. The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom. While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document, the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned. While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty, it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy."

NOW THAT IS RACIST.

‘cause you ain’t it dick'

A constitutionalists view of "the "general welfare" clause (Art. I Sec. 8 Cl. 1) is not the delegation of a power, but a restriction of the power to raise taxes (and spend the funds raised) to only those things that benefit the nation generally, and not just some region or group. There is no federal power to make "internal improvements" unless they are incidental to a delegated power, such as defense."

I'm waiting, dicky.
I expressly asked you 3 questions in my first post, evidently the same rules don’t apply to the self -important elite.

If you want to live in a warm and fuzzy Kumbayah type of world then we have common ground. If you are naïve enough to believe we can “compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose” then we are “open to debate.”

Try being intellectual with those who want to “wipe out Israel” and decent with those who have declared “death to the infidels”.

The saying,”Peace through superior firepower”, is not just a soldier’s hoo-rah, it is a reality. The entire idea behind the Trident submarine was, “if we have them, we’ll never have to use them” and most will agree it worked.

Your turn, as I asked before; Are you now asserting that you possess such a superior intellect that the unwashed minions who disagree with you are incapable of understanding or appreciating your “essential wisdom”? In other words; those who disagree with you are wrong.

Another question, do you have any clue what a “constitutionalists" is? ‘cause you ain’t i

And now from the front lines, another defeat for American Pravda!

The Obama administration on Thursday failed in its attempt to exclude Fox News from participating in an interview of an administration official, as Republicans on Capitol Hill stepped up their criticism of the hardball tactics employed by the White House.

The Treasury Department on Thursday tried to make "pay czar" Kenneth Feinberg available for interviews to every member of the network pool except Fox News. The pool is the five-network rotation that for decades has shared the costs and duties of daily coverage of the presidency and other Washington institutions.

But the Washington bureau chiefs of the five TV networks consulted and decided that none of their reporters would interview Feinberg unless Fox News was included. The pool informed Treasury that Fox News, as a member of the network pool, could not be excluded from such interviews under the rules of the pool.

So how's that war thing working for you?

I'd venture a guess, maybe even wager a bet, that Fox's "right-wing hatchet men" generally have had more liberals on in any given month than MSNBC (read Obama 24/7) has had conservatives for any year since it's inception in 1996.

"The cable news channel is "completely out of control," said writer-producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat.

She added that she would prefer a lunch date with right-leaning Fox News star Sean Hannity over left-leaning MSNBC star Keith Olbermann."

Olbermann was criticized by many who attended Monday's luncheon sponsored by the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was dubbed "Hollywood, America and Election '08."

Bloodworth-Thomason and others seemed especially critical of the way MSNBC -- and other media -- has attacked Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin while demeaning her supporters.

The Waxman-Markey bill would force electric utilities to buy wind turbines and solar panels from manufacturers like GE, making energy generation more costly.

Consumers would also be coerced into buying expensive GE “smart meters” and “smart appliances“ that allow local utilities to control home appliance use.

In a political fundraising letter to employees, GE said, “The intersection between GE’s interests and government action is clearer than ever… we must also make sure that candidates who share GE’s values and goals get elected to office… we were able to work closely with key authors of the Waxman-Markey climate and energy bill, recently passed by the House of Representatives. If this bill is enacted into law it would benefit many GE businesses.”

If it is not in there, it belongs to the individual states, a.k.a "states rights".

I personally had never heard it mention prior to when 111th congress convened. Incidentally it is not up to the Legislative Branch to interpret law.

My point was not to argue the constitutionality or even the merits of it but rather the lack of its inclusion.

Robert you have to remember the crowd you are playing to.

The constitution is only used as a convienence by some in order to “cherry-pick” their arguments. Equating the 10th Amendment to racism, while implying the commerce clause of Article 1 Section 8 guarantees health care for Americans, is a perfect example of why sometimes it should just be left alone.

Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated.”

Does that help dk?

Now we not only have constitutional scholars on this site but but we are blessed with theological scholars as well.

Is this large enough?

“What is $1.42 trillion? It's more than the total national debt for the first 200 years of the Republic, more than the entire economy of India, almost as much as Canada's, and more than $4,700 for every man, woman and child in the United States. It's the federal budget deficit for 2009, more than three times the most red ink ever amassed in a single year.”

If I understand the law correctly, Richard could say I attacked his professional character but he would then have to prove that it was false and defamatory, that it was conveyed with malice and that it resulted in damage to his professional standing.

I’m sure he could (and most likely will) chime in with specific chapter and verse (MYERS vs. BOSTON MAGAZINE) in addition to telling me I “got nuthin’“ and a short diatribe about Ronald Reagan’s racism. Would this be considered egging on the counselor?

Why are you asking me about Dubya, is it because you are an “Obama supporter” and won’t admit to buyer’s remorse?

ACORN Embezzlement Totaled $5 Million, Internal Audit Asserts

Where there's smoke, there's fire. And in the case of the radical nonprofit network, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, the fire is more than five times as bad as originally reported. According to results from an internal audit released yesterday, top ACORN members embezzled around $5 million during its years under the helm of founder Wade Rathke. That's well above the roughly $950,000 that Rathke's brother, former ACORN chief financial officer Dale, reportedly stole during 1999-2000 - and that Wade Rathke ordered covered up lest the incident create bad publicity.

Fittingly, current ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis claims the latest allegations to be "completely false."

Mindset one is the current goal of the powers that be.

New Orleans is a perfect model of a liberal success or lack there off. It's been run by Democrats for well over 50 years and illustrates clearly what, (as possee described in Detroit) the reality of the left wing “bread and circus” style of governance brings.

The reaction to Katrina is a perfect example.

Living without any motivation for self reliance, the citizens waited for the government to come as they had their whole lives. Rather than evacuate on their own, the 9th Ward the residents waited for a mayor who hightailed it to Dallas to come save them. Being part of a machine morally unable to fathom the concept of personal responsibility, the mayor in turn blamed the governor who then passed the blame onto the President.

Compare this to how Florida handled 4 hurricanes during the same year and the effects of a welfare driven society are obvious.

Keep‘em poor, keep 'em needy, the enablers get re-elected and keep their jobs.

North Korea test-launched five short-range missiles on yet another American holiday and the response was "American efforts to resume the nuclear talks with North Korea will proceed despite the new tests."

With majorities in both the House and the Senate, insurance reform is foundering, closing Gitmo looks to be yet another empty campaign promise and the White House focuses their attention on declaring war on a news network.

Someone needs to take the President aside and advise him how to pick his battles.

Your response,”…Turn off the lights in your study tonight; then admire your reflection in the glass of your monitor...”, takes me back to a scene long ago in a far away land…

The muffin man is seated at the table in the laboratory of the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen...

Reaching for an over sized chrome spoon he gathers an intimate quantity of dried muffin remnants and brushing his scapular aside, proceeds to dump these inside of his shirt...

Turning to us he speaks: "Some people like cupcakes better, I for one care less for them!"

Arrogantly twisting the sterile canvas snoot of a fully charged icing anointment utensil he poots forth a quarter-ounce green rosette near the summit of a danse but radiant muffin of his own design.

Later he says: "Some people like cupcakes exclusively, while I myself, say there is naught nor ought there be anything so exalted on the face of Gods great earth as that prince of foods... the muffin!"

Proof of the evil muffin movement conspiring against the noble cupcake alliance.

Delusional disorders are fixed beliefs that are certainly and definitely false, but that could possibly be plausible, for example, someone who thinks "he or she is under police surveillance".

That idea appears to exert an undue influence on his or her life, and the way of life is often altered to an inexplicable extent. (18 hrs)

Dear Ben, I am writing to ask why the Dow closed up 61.29 pts. today. With the signs of the end of the Federal Reserve yesterday, the market should have reacted differently.

I’ve been watching the TV for word of the maritime blockade you predicted but I think that evil man Rupert Murdoch is jamming the news feed in order to cover it up, what are your thoughts? He probably kicks puppies and pulls the wings off of insects too. Such an horrible man!

As you recommended, I am stocking up on food as I have several cans of Spaghettios and plenty of that delicious Yoo-hoo you recommended. Do you like Spaghettios or do you prefer Chef Boyardee Ravioli? Some days I can’t decide what to have for dinner so I mix them up; my Mom says I’m quite the little chef.

Dr. Van de Meer predicted the branches would start to hit the ground on October 7 and it was really windy last night and the yard is full of them so I know you are right.

Sorry but I have to go but Mom’s yelling at me to take out the garbage.

Faithfully, Zippy

On every continent in the world, there is a sandwich named after him.

If he disagrees with you, it is because you are wrong.

He can watch 60 minutes in 10.

He’s a lover, not a fighter, but he’s also a fighter, so don’t get any ideas.

He has been known to cure narcolepsy, just by walking into the room.

So ladies, if it’s allowable to say all young girls with rich older conservative men are “ho’s” than by rights someone could say something like: all liberal, divorced, lonely old internet crawling women are fat, booze addled, whiney, desperate welfare cases seeing how truth isn’t a required element...

Point being: it doesn’t feel good to be called names, now does it girls?

To put it politely, ethanol sucks! Ever heard of phase separation? It has a shelf life of 60 to 90 days, under ideal storage conditions. Now lets add in the ratio of water used to make one gallon of ethanol and the loss of crops as food stuffs and we have a lose - lose situation just like hy-brid cars, look past the hype and into the science.

"This is one more nail in the coffin for ethanol," says David Pimentel of Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY, whose own studies have shown that ethanol requires more energy to produce than it releases when burned, and that the fertilizer used to grow corn for ethanol has contributed significantly to dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico (areas of the ocean with low oxygen content due to increases in chemicals in the water).

If you want to make a claim, make sure you can back it up.

And posted by you on cape cod today 09/22/09,

Membership in a crypto racist organization like Sons of the Confederacy is prima facie evidence of racist beliefs. Wilson was one of the 8 South Carolina state senators to vote in favor of keeping the Stars and Bars flying over the state house as a direct affront to black citizens. When Essie May Washigton Williams revealed she was the illegitimate multi-racial child of a union between Strom Thurmond and his Afro-American maid, it was Wilson who labeled that a "smear," even though Thurmond acknowledged his paternity.

Hi Richard,
You penned the topic, if you didn't want to discuss it, why open the door?
Everything has an “element of plausibility” until it is debunked. This is what separates supposition from fact. Why not cover all the angles on a story rather than skew it to your beliefs. If it is false, what are you afraid of?
There are basically two elements to the birther’s argument,

2) the Kenyan one is not.

How does this differ from Rathergate as far as “obstructing reasonable discussion of the issues”?

Tort reform is indeed a major factor in the cost of health care. In order to avoid legal action, doctors often order procedures and tests not essentially required for the patient.

With malpractice insurance premiums starting around sixty-thousand, averaging two-hundred and going as high as a half million dollars a year, together with the need for practicing self-protective medicine so the doctor can cover his ass, someone has to pay for it.

Strom Thurmond on the other hand voted for the National Voting Rights Act of 1965 (unlike Robert Byrd) and making the birthday of M L K Jr. a federal holiday.

“It was my duty [as Governor of South Carolina] to enforce segregation laws. After the laws changed, I changed."

He was also the first southern senator to appoint a black aide.

However, by his own admission the former Grand Kleagle didn’t change his views as early as you propose:
"The death of my grandson (1982) caused me to stop and think," said Byrd, adding he came to realize that black people love their children as much as he does his.

So is Nelson Winbush a racist too? How about Clint Eastwood, H.K. Edgerton? All are Sons of Confederate Veterans,(not Sons of the Confederacy, nice try at race bating though) who allow Blacks unlike Jimmy Carter’s church back in the seventies.

Richard,

There were seven, not eight senators who voted to fly “The Battle Flag of the Confederacy”, not the “Stars and Bars” over the State House.
The “Stars and Bars” design has been out of circulation since 1863.

On the other hand, the Georgia state flag incorporated the “Southern Cross” for Jimmy Carter’s entire political career. So when did Earl have his epiphany anyway?

Was it 1970 after distributing photos of his opponent, Carl Sanders, with the black members of the Atlanta Hawks?

Or was it in 1976, after praising John Stennis and Jim Eastland, supporters of “Massive Resistance” and the Plains Baptist Church voted to ban blacks from joining?

Maybe it was after his ass whoopin’ by the Great One?

“The wrath that escapes Carter’s lips about racism and hatred when he prays and poses as the epitome of Christian charity leads even his supporters to protest his meanness.”
Hugh Sidey, 1980

Even Lester Maddox called him “"the most dishonest man I ever met."

Your Honor, Jimmy Carter was a racist, but he clearly grew out of it.

And what evidence do you have to back that up counselor?

He’s a Democrat, should be enough.

Your Honor, Joe Wilson is a racist and there is no clear evidence that he ever grew out of it.

And what proof do you have to back that up counselor?

Well, He is a Republican, what else do you need?

Pop Quiz kids, who said the following:

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds. ”

B)Joe Wilson

So Richard, show me an actual act of racism by Joe Wilson.
The smear comment had to be racist, illegitimacy couldn't have anything to do with it.

As Laughlin McDonald, director of the ACLU’s Voting Project, relates in his book A Voting Rights Odyssey: Black Enfranchisement in Georgia, [Jimmy] Carter’s [School]board tried to stop the construction of a new “Elementary Negro School” in 1956. Local white citizens had complained that the school would be “too close” to a white school. As a result, “the children, both colored and white, would have to travel the same streets and roads in order to reach their respective schools.” The prospect of black and white children commingling on the streets on their way to school was apparently so horrible to Carter that he requested that the state school board stop construction of the black school until a new site could be found.

What year was Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka?

Both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, "our first and second black presidents" have said there is nothing racial in the dissent .

Richard, being a member of the bar you should know that since I didn’t make the accusation, the burden of proof lies elsewhere.

Sibel Edmonds is referred to in the 9/11 Truth Movement Petition as having have knowledge of advance warnings, hardly news to anyone.

If she had proof (that’s the sticky part counselor), that Bush was either complicit or negligent in knowing that airplanes were to fall out of the sky that day, I’d buy it.

To claim a smoking gun with no evidence, is like saying you saw Martians at the 7 11 last night; “Ain’t got no proof Jethro but I swear it’s true.”

I called Velvel (velvet is something you have a portrait of Elvis on in a double wide), a moonbat, big deal, he called the President much worse, where’s the outrage there?

Here’s a fun Fact : Jimmy Carter has a verifiable history of racism, Joe Wilson doesn’t.

Lawrence Velvel is just another moonbat suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome:

"We must try to hold Bush administration leaders accountable in courts of justice," Velvel said. "And we must insist on appropriate punishments, including, if guilt is found, the hangings visited upon top German and Japanese war-criminals in the 1940s."

To try and gain further support for his case he resorts to personal attacks:

“The man ultimately responsible for the torture had a unique preparation and persona for the presidency: he is a former drunk, was a serial failure in business who had to repeatedly be bailed out by daddy's friends and wanna-be-friends, was unable to speak articulately despite the finest education(s) that money and influence can buy, has a dislike of reading, so that 100-page memos have to be boiled down to one page for him, is heedless of facts and evidence, and appears not even to know the meaning of truth.”

So my question is, having been over a year since the conference, how has having someone “with the power and the courage to prosecute,” made out?

dk, if you watched anything other than government run MSNBC, you’d know that when GHW Bush addressed the students at Alice Deal Junior High School, the left took it farther than what everyone is whining about today.

Rep. William Ford ordered the GAO to investigate President Bush's appearance and summoned Lamar Alexander and others to testify before congress.

I find it highly unlikely Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi will do that.

No one cares about Obama addressing the students; it was his now deleted indoctrination they objected to.

Every so often the debate rears it's ugly head. A cape is generally defined as a piece of land that separates two bodies of water. Plymouth is on the Cape Cod Bay side while Wareham sits on the Buzzards Bay side. The delineation of the canal came long after the land was formed. If Barnstable County is the defining factor, where does this leave the Elizabeth Islands. Looks like we need to redraw a lot of maps.
