My friends and I have donated money over the years but you need more than any of us can afford. You need to attract wealthy donors or this plan will not get off the ground. The WHAT managed to build their theater in a short amount of time. I know healthcare isnt as sexy as theater but I say again, make sure everyone on your board commits to finding people who can afford to donate large amounts of money. They have never had that kind of energy in the past but maybe now with new board members something positive could happen...I am not optimistic based on past experience but I would love to be proved wrong!

I wish you well in your attempt to build a new site for OCHS but please keep a close eye on the fundraising. We have been promised a new health center building for years but the fundraising has been lacking in creativity and energy. Wellfleet supports OCHS but patience is growing thin. If OCHS doesnt build it someone else will.

I wish you luck and will certainly support the idea. Even in these dire economic times its still possible to raise money for something as important as healthcare on the lower cape so I hope OCHS can come up with a creative fundraising plan so the dream of a new building can become a reality.

I support the idea of OCHS having a new building at the Wellfleet COA. However, OCHS has been talking for over four years now about a capitol plan to raise money to build a new clinic. I think there should be a time limit for this so that if OCHS cantraise the money after a certain amount of time, the land would go back to the COA for housing or whatever other needs might benefit the community. Also,in the past OCHS has always said they would rather be on route 6 so are they now ready to accept this new location?

Re the Blasch house decision: the spineless Seashore waited too long to challenge the building of this monster house and now the deal is done. Wellfleet spent money going along with the challenge when it knew it was going to lose. The only winners here are the owners and their lawyers

To bittersweet: No senator or congressman screamed at Bush while he was speaking and lord knows some of them would have loved to yell at him but because he was the president they knew better. Crusader: she is gone and has been for some time. No one cares more about ochs than I do. I want Dr. Berrien to succeed but I know and have worked with all the great nurses who were "laid off" and the ones who are still there and they are very concerned. It matters not that she is a doctor because she has displayed a total lack of respect for the nurses, which says to me that she doesnt understand the role of a nurse.
All I am asking is that everyone, patients, ex-and current employees, keep a watchful eye and do not be afraid to speak up..with both words of praise and constructive criticism.

Those of you who take the side of the new CEO without knowing the facts just dont get it. Yes, she needed to make cuts but she operates in a vacuum and has lost some very providers and staff not because of her cuts but because she doesnt listen to anyone. The staff who are still there are wonderful and hard-working and they certainly dont have time to gossip! What they need is support from their CEO, who it appears is worse than the last 3 CEO's ochs has had in the past 10 years. Everyone wants ochs to succeed. Its the only health care we have on the lower cape. This isnt about forcing her out. This is about encouraging her to listen. She has a lot to learn about non-profit "community" health centers!

You complain that the Banner did not print the names of current employees who talked to the Banner. The obvioius reason they didnt give names is because OCHS threatened to fire them if they talked to the press. Why then would they be stupid enough to allow their names to be printed?

Urgent care has always been provided by ochs. Ask anyone who works there. The reason this is different is because Beth Israel is finally lending a hand.

bpayne66: thank heavens, finally a voice of reason! i had stopped reading the comments a few months ago because it seems as tho it was just a bunch of ignorant people trying to shock readers..it just got too frustrating and honestly, boring, to keep looking for someone who made sense. The planning board was right to let the permit stand and support our bldg. inspector; the owners had done everything that was asked of them and even tho most of us cant stand the house, it was the only fair thing to do. Now let's just hope that Wellfleet does the right thing at the October Town Meeting and votes to keep this from happening again to the town and the Seashore; then we can stop talking about it!

I agree...every summer there seem to be more accidents. People are distracted, impatient and yes, rude. Where I live, in Wellfleet, people speed down Briar Lane like it was the Indy 500...never a cop in sight. Guess we have to wait for an accident before they do something.

CW Rice: have you been able to find out if the taxpayers are paying anything for the lawsuit brought by the government re the Blasch situation? Is it just against the BOS? This long-winded conversation about the Bookstore is getting boring..and its not nearly as important as the fact that we as taxpayers might have to pay more money because Dale Donovan and his friends wont let the decision by the ZBA stand!

Ok, this is off the subject..but for you wellfleetians who visit the town dump: did you know that all the recyclables are being given to the catholic church to help the building fund? I have nothing against churches but please, we have several low income people in town and elders who need help. Wouldnt that money be better spent in helping our own citizens?

I want the town to be spending money on water, sewer, etc. not spending our money because we dont like a house. Yes, its ugly but really just change the bylaws and it wont happen again. Dale Donovan has been collecting money to fight the decision by the ZBA. So much money has been wasted on this but if Dale wants to fight it without using town money then fine, do it. But stop with the use of our money. We have a budget and it doesnt include the use of thousands of dollars for something just because we dont like the house! Those of you who want to keep fighting: have you considered how much your taxes will go up if our money continues to fight this case? Just change the bylaws and get on with life!

Troll: you obviously have not been following the story. This is not favoritism and if you had either been at the ZBA meeting or watched it on channel 17 you would have heard the reason the board reached the decision to allow the permit to build.

I would also point out that not ALL the selectmen voted with Dale. Both Michael May and jaqui Wildes voted against him.We have at least 2 bright people on the Board!

What an obscene waste of taxpayer money.

I have been there and yes, it is much nicer the way it is today but again, i do not agree that anyone should be able to interfere with the rights of people who have done everything they were asked to do. Would you want that to happen to you? YOu may have better judgement, you may not ever build an eyesore like this house, but surely you would want protection from people who "just dont like your house". People like dale donovan are the problem. He has cost the town a lot of money it didnt need to spend. Now it is up to Wellfleet to do the right thing and change the regs so we dont have to have this problem every time one of these trophy-house lovers comes up with a plan to show off his "mine is bigger than yours" house!

This isnt about whether you like the house or not or whether you think it should be where it is. The owners did everything they were asked to do. The only fair and legal decision was the decision that was made last night. Do I love the house? NO! I hate the fact that it is as large as it is but I believe in being fair. Now, lets make sure the regulations are changed so it never happens again!
