Ana...If you call your comment "news and information" might I put up a few "Westerns" or should I go back to the good old days of "Cowboys and Indians"?

And a little news and information would be helpful. I know what the Sagamore and Bourne look like both in the fog and whenever. Traffic and no traffic, accidents and no accidents.

You my friend have Ned syndrome. Someone once told you they liked your photography. Now you are one.

No rant, just an opinion. We are all entitled to one.

Are you suggesting that WB bring back "The Magician" and Sis for an encore. They set an all time traffic record on this site. Despite the fact this site turned into "Deliverance Revisited" it was fun.

Now we have a new duo. I can't believe 95% of what I read on this site. Guess why? Because you and cru provide 95% of the content.

“World’s going to hell in a hand basket Tristan”, Gerry would often say,” Cape ain’t what it used to be.”

Indeed it wasn’t, people from the city had discovered it and land was cheap enough to build houses where there used to be deer. Strip malls were the new architectural disaster to hit the Cape, and in the summer you even could get stuck in traffic on 6A. “All started with that ‘Summer White House’ foolishness on the south side of town, Camelot my arse, used to be nice and quiet here until the television brought us front and center to the world. “Ah the good ol’ days” he would say, and then get quiet for a while.

Juli B wanted you gone. WB said the only one capable of this mission is Peck. Maggie said "I banned him"! Just like a page out of the "Godfather" WB kissed them both on the cheek and dialed Peck.

They reincarnated him as a bunny that can't spell. 1st giveaway.

Then who else would spend the night swapping spit with cru other than a paid assassin?

cru...sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if it is any consolation I still consider you a good friend and hope you will join us at the summit.

11/19/09 @ 2:51 pm
There is a movement around the world to find the best sites for wind power. And those sites traditionally take into account the environment and others who share the siting space. Not just a land grab by a developer and the location he chooses that can make the most money. At your expense no less.

These folks have the right idea:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/19/business/energy-environment/19WIND.html?_r=1

PS...the original Cape Wind approval was given by the USArmy Corps of Engineers. The same Corps that was successfully sued in Federal Court this week for their negligence and being the major cause of flooding and damage during Hurricane Katrina.

Speaking of misguided priorities...Mavericks bride writes...an Obama czar team recommended that women no longer need to perform breast self examinations. In addition the official recommendation for a base line mammogram is now 50 years of age instead of 40 years. Out of 1,900 mammograms performed, on average, only one women had cancer. So no worries ladies. Why would you put yourself through the anxiety of a mammogram and possible biopsy? Besides, the change will save one billion dollars in insurance costs. Isn't your health and well being worth it? And if you do not perform self exams to catch cancer early to survive the disease, think of all the money that could be saved with you no longer here needing health care in your later years. Do Obama's proposed health care initiative a favor, check out early.

Go back years and you will see the history of the site. Dona Tracy - banned for her opposition to the wind farm. Was a favorite of WB until he couldn't convince her to change her position.

Barbara Durkin - One of the most factual and articulate sources regarding wind energy and banned for years until they thought the wind factory was a slam dunk. Wrong.

Neil Good...full of relevant info regarding the siting of the wind factory but banned from recent comments.

This is a privately owned website and monitored and censored from the top down. I have no problem with that but please don't suggest any other reason than the wind factory for my absence.

I am in favor of the "twin wind towers" in N. Harwich.

"A third renewable project seeking to install solar panels on the unused cap of the town landfill was turned down after the Finance Committee cast doubts on the preliminary project. The so-called “solar garden” looked to utilize two parcels, each an acre in size but lacked approvals from the state environmental regulators.

Finance Committee member Peter Hughes brought up some history for attendees.

“Remember you spent $1.8 million to cover that landfill,” he said.

Hughes urged the public to make sure that they approve something that they know won’t harm the relatively thin plastic cap, causing the town further cost."

Capuano...#76 out of 515 democrats, in relation to size, to receive money from PMA Group which is being investigated by the FBI and has since disbanded.

Sounds like Capuano has been doing a little pillaging on his own to the tune of:

How do you suppose that would work out for all of Obama's progressive initiatives, not just health care?"

"On the Senate floor in 1977, Senator Ted Kennedy said: The Deputy Director of the CIA revealed that over thirty universities and institutions were involved in an "extensive testing and experimentation" program which included covert drug tests on unwitting citizens "at all social levels, high and low, native Americans and foreign." Several of these tests involved the administration of LSD to "unwitting subjects in social situations." At least one death, that of Dr. Olson, resulted from these activities. The Agency itself acknowledged that these tests made little scientific sense. The agents doing the monitoring were not qualified scientific observers.[7]"

Might this explain the mood swings?

"The word 'green' alone is used to describe any number of allegedly useful, even necessary, products and programs which will impact us all. There are the windmill and global warming controversies to name just two. The point is, when something is described as being of benefit to all of us, for our own good, it’s a good idea to find out who's behind it and how he stands to gain. Always follow the money trail. Remember, Al Gore ain't broke."

And neither is Gordon. If his true purpose was to bring clean, green energy to the Cape and Massachusetts Jim would consider an alternative site.

His purpose was purely profit wrapped in the cloth of green energy. His Chelsea fossil fuel power plant across the street from a grammar school is further proof that he is driven by profits vs the good of all the folks on Cape Cod.

Hello Bill... my name is Jack Riley, aka Maverick, and can be found at my charter boat in Allen Harbor during the summer season and RI in the winter. I served at the Presidio in the sixties and still love the area. Hopefully having introduced myself I might be allowed to participate on your blog.

If so...what is your position on Cape Wind? That is if you have one.

PS...ignore dorsal.

Unbelievable. Sad, very sad. Robert, thanks for some great thoughts.

dk...all I am suggesting is that the wind factory proposal came before what we might call "Ocean Zoning".

The reason that the Cape landscape is a joke relates directly to no planning. And by the time they started to get planning and zoning the Cape was already a blight on the earth.

I have charter customers that live at the Belmont. Invite me for dinner there all the time. The place looks like a mortar prison. No character, no architecture just a blight on the horizon as I steam in from offshore.

The bottom line...the fact that they proposed the siting before guidelines were established does not make it a good or legitimate project. And the few guidelines in existence they have ignored. Would you like me to list them?

Why should the Wamp leadership care if they anger the Governor or the majority of Bay Staters?

The land belongs to the Native Americans. We stole it and imposed our own laws at gunpoint.

They don't want a wind factory desecrating traditional sacred ground. For you to put up a "canoe cartoon" is beyond belief.

I love Cape Cod. It's the residents I have a problem with.

11/03/09 @ 7:56 pm
"Representatives from NOAA, the Interior Department and Defense Department have said the new ocean policy would not change their ongoing work to review permits for projects such as the Cape Wind proposal in Massachusetts.

But the changes could come later, according to Lubchenco. The process of siting and permitting similar projects in the future could take a very different approach after the task force creates recommendations for a "marine spatial planning" system that could essentially set up a system for zoning ocean resources."

As in Cape Wind snuck in under the wire and would never be permitted in a comprehensive review that spoke to all environmental, economic and safety reviews.

It is a sham supported by CCToday for advertising reasons. Has nothing to do with green energy.

11/03/09 @ 6:04 pm
PETA stated today that beef eating is a major cause of global warming. And when Al Gore was questioned he said he tried to become vegetarian but couldn't give up beef.

Soooo! We have overdeveloped the Cape and want to destroy Nantucket Sound as an encore. And to top it off we will tell the Native Americans, from whom we stole the sandpit, your religious beliefs don't meet our criteria.

Reminds me of Gordon. He no sooner states Cape Wind will rid us of fossil fuel and then announces his plan for a fossil fuel plant in Chelsea across the street from a grammar school.

11/03/09 @ 4:00 pm
dk...I have understood from the beginning. How long have you been following the debate? In the initial marketing thrust for Cape Wind people suggested that because wind was free their electric bill would be lower. False.

Then it was revealed that there are federal laws prohibiting the siting of a wind factory in the middle of a flyway for endangered species. Ignore them.

Now we are planning an "Ocean Policy" But Cape wind is exempt because of their application date. No way it would pass muster after the ocean policy is in place.

Preserving marine life offsets CO2 emissions -- report (10/14/2009)

Preventing the destruction of marine life, which capture more than half of the world's CO2 emissions, could help offset current fossil fuel emissions by 3 percent to 7 percent, a United Nations report said today.

The "Blue Carbon" report found that life in the seas and estuaries, such as plankton and mangrove forests, captures and stores up to 1,650 million metric tons of CO2 every year, the equivalent of almost half the world's transportation emissions, it said.

"We already know that marine ecosystems are multitrillion dollar assets linked to sectors such as tourism, coastal defense, fisheries and water purification services," said Achim Steiner, head of the U.N. Environment Programme.

"Now it is emerging that they are natural allies against climate change," he said.

The report estimates that up to 7 percent of these "blue carbon" stores are lost every year due to pollution and coastal development."

Carl responded with..."Maverick, you have been so tragically wrong so often". Yet doesn't give an example of when I was wrong. And a history of this site regarding Cape Wind will prove I was right.

Carl's statement regarding unions and lobbyists was deception to suggest there were less than those that signed the letter. I just reiterated who did sign. A bunch of lobbyists and union leaders.

One of the original premises by Cape Wind was the illusion that wind is free so your power bills will be reduced. That is a lie. The ratepayers on Cape Cod will have their bills increased if this boondoggle is built.

When confronted with the truth about rates Carl disappeared.

Call we whatever. Could care less. But I would appreciate the truth. If Carl says I am wrong please give an example.

dk...I was very disappointed with the Bush/Cheney performance. And felt a lot of the vitriol directed at them was fair but some wasn't. Then I watched a liberal media vilify Palin before she had an opportunity. I am not a big fan but felt she deserved a fair chance. Not to get blindsided so that she would come out of the gate lame.

Now along comes Obama and Biden. No matter the gaffe it is OK with the media.

You have your opinion and I have mine. I will sit back and see how this all plays out. History will be the judge.

It's a double standard. OK for the left to hate Bush but Obama is off limits.

Plus, the Indians are doing you a favor. If the wind factory is approved you will pay higher electric rates. Wind is free. Wind power is not.

If anyone would like to challenge that statement please show me documented evidence of lower electric bills due to wind power. Please also provide documented evidence of increased bills when wind power was introduced.

Another thought..."So they’d rather keep the planet in a death grip, and whistle while it burns, than face the consequences of their own crimes.

Naturally it would be much easier to just pretend global warming isn’t happening, that we puny humans have very little effect on the planet. But that’s patently false and absurd. If the planet could clean itself so neatly, we wouldn’t have killer smog, mass deforestation, rapidly shrinking wildlife habitats, desertification, rapid ice cap melt or “Silent Springs”, to name just a short list of the wide-scale devastation of the environment.

If the planet could clean itself so easily it would have gotten rid of us by now. Which may be what will happen if we don’t wise up.

September 22nd, 2009 at 9:03 pm

It’s funny how human beings establish a technically advanced civilization in 3,000 years then suddenly they think everything can be explained away, and micro-managed into a neat little package of simple explanation.

The Major, Major Oil and Gas companies are pushing more money into ‘Global Warming’ science than private individuals. They are also investing immense sums of capital into the new ‘Carbon Derivitives’ markets emerging as a result of ‘Global Warming Legislation’ as the topic becomes everyones favorite norm and fearful driving force of change.

The simple truth is easily over looked by simple people. Human beings DO NOT INFLUENCE WEATHER. Carbon Dioxide exhaled by human beings, and all of the various fuels we use from livestock and food, to internal combustion engines and power-plants is ABSORBED FASTER THAN IT REACHES THE ENVIORNMENT. AFTER ALL WE ARE SYMBIOTIC WITH THE ENVIORNMENT. THE EARTH IS A GIANT WASHING MACHINE, CONSTANTLY CLEANING ITSELF."

Many of my fishing friends pay cash as their medical needs arise. They have found it less expensive. And they live a healthy lifestyle. With the new plan:

"The penalty for not buying insurance would be a fine running as high as $3,800 a year for a family that makes more than 300% of the federal poverty level. For families that forgo coverage and make less than that, the fine would be $1,500. The fines for individuals would be, respectively, $950 and $750."

I hope it proves to be economically feasible. Cape Wind will probably get approved but will never pass economic muster. The ratepayers will have to pick up the shortfall in higher electric rates.

Such nonsense! As this is written there is over 1,100,000 square kilometers more sea ice in the Southern Hemisphere then the 1979-2000 mean. While the Northern Hemisphere is presently covered with over 13,100,000 square kilometers of sea ice which are only 400,000 square kilometers less than the norm. World wide sea ice is above the 1979-2000 mean by around 700,000 square kilometers. That is hardly a ringing endorsement for Global Warming. The common Global Warming lie is ice in the Arctic has been rapidly decreasing. Indeed, in the summer of 2007 Artic Sea hit a significant low. However, since then the ice has been increasing every year to the point it is now close to its statistical mean. Moreover NASA reported that the massive 2007 loss of sea ice was caused by abnormal wind patterns rather than a fundamental climate shift. Perhaps more significant is the fact that Sunspot Cycle 24 refuses to start. (cont.)

"MA Audubon has challenged Cape Wind to accept an Adaptive Management Plan that includes rigorous monitoring, beginning at the construction phase and continuing at least three years post construction; to be funded by Cape Wind; with contributions from independent institutions and government agencies as appropriate."

I challenge MA Audubon to answer one question: What agency do they suggest should be eligible to bid on, or awarded this multi-million dollar, long-term monitoring contract, if Cape Wind is permitted in Nantucket Sound?”

Dr. Taber Allison: "Mass Audubon scientists have never concluded that up to 6,600 birds, or any number of birds, would be killed if this project is permitted."

MA Audubon's testimony to the USACE:

“By utilizing other bird mortality data provided in the DEIS, Mass Audubon staff scientists arrived at avian mortalities that ranged from 2,300 to 6,600 collision deaths per year.”

Richard...an apology to you. It's charter season for me so I take a seasonal sabbatical from CCToday. If I don't respond please don't take it as an insult and forgive.

I support alternative clean energy including wind power if it is properly sited under existing guidelines. Cape Wind was spawned with no existing guidelines. And the MMS is trying to make up or avoid existing law at their discretion.

I am against the burning of fossil fuels but haven't been provided a substantive answer that guarantees the wind factory will have any reduction in the burning of fossil fuels.

Thus, we destroy Nantucket Sound and hope for reduced pollution and lower electric bills. Good luck.
03/27/09 @ 7:19 pm
Carl...I object to anyone lying, CCT or CCToday. And I appreciate your efforts to reduce energy consumption.

Originally Mark Rogers stated Cape Wind would have no effect on global warming. Then he got in line and said it was a piece of a larger puzzle.

The puzzle is that the cause of global warming has not been proven. Yet "end global warming" is the slogan of the pro Cape Wind group.

How can CCToday put up scholars like You, Peck, Chuck and Justin to tug at our heart strings suggesting that to oppose a wind factory in Nantucket Sound is insane, criminal and contributing to the death of our children.

Have they approached any of the worlds top scientists regarding the true cause of global warming? No. They rely on Barbara Hill and Peck for their scientific evidence.

Have they guaranteed Mirant will close if Cape Wind is built? No.

The whole project is a lie. It started with the premise "the Cape will support it if they think their electric rates will be lower". Joke.

Richard...thanks for bringing us Freeman Dyson.

"So a large part of the observed rise in sea level must have other causes. One possible cause is a slow readjustment of the shape of the earth to the disappearance of the northern ice-sheets at the end of the ice age twelve thousand years ago. Another possible cause is the large-scale melting of glaciers, which also began long before human influences on climate became significant. Once again, we have an environmental danger whose magnitude cannot be predicted until we know more about its causes, [Munk, 2002]."

"We are lucky that we can be heretics today without any danger of being burned at the stake. But unfortunately I am an old heretic. Old heretics do not cut much ice. When you hear an old heretic talking, you can always say, “Too bad he has lost his marbles”, and pass on. What the world needs is young heretics. I am hoping that one or two of the people who read this piece may fill that role."
