Bellichick knew this team had no chance of contending and thus unloaded Seymour. Dont forget the 2008 Pats didnt make the playoffs while playing the 2 worst divisions in football last year...the NFC West and AFC West. This year they have a tougher schedule and not a better team. Brady cannot carry a team to a Super Bowl. The defenses and Vinatieri are what made the Pats champs before and those guys are all gone. Brady doesnt have a moment like The Catch, Immaculate Reception or Montana to Taylor in his career. As a matter of fact his defining post season moments are the fumble against the Raiders and the interception to Champ Bailey. Tom Brady = OVERRATED...Gisele on the other hand is a fine piece of *** but smokes like a chimney....NO THANKS TO BOTH OF THEM.

Looking forward to the blogs this football season. Just an FYI that I usually read your updates in the nude. Umass is traveling out to Kansas State on Saturday as D1 teams make sacrificial lambs out of 1AA teams like Umass. However Umass almost beat BC 2 years ago and hung with Texas Tech better than some D1 teams last year. Patirots will go 10-6 and lose in 1st round of playoffs. Brady's health will not be good and their defense is about as stable as the clientele at Port O Call.

In response to: 1985; Cape Cod is getting crowded
I left the Cape for what I thought were greener pastures in Worcester in 1985. I have made a ton more money than I would have staying on the Cape but I miss the lifestyle and the feeling of community in Barnstable. I still get to live about 15 days a year in Centerville but I dont care how many people cram themselves on to the Penninsula it will still be a magical place to live.
08/13/09 @ 8:03 am
YES! Salma Hayek has a blouse full of goodies. Should be a good movie with that cast of characters. However Mall Cop with Kevin James stunk worse than the mens room at the Port O Call.

So far the Arizona Cardinals look like the Obama Administration....dazed, confused and committing lots of blunders. Watching the Steelers and Big Ben it would appear that they will have a stranglehold on the AFC for the next 3 seasons. Tomlin is a classy coach. NFL should move the game to Saturday night. They are moving the Pro Bowl next year to the week before the Super Bowl.

I dont really like Springsteen but he did put on a glorious set at halftime. I would have preferred Billy Idol or Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Mangini appeared on an episode of the Sopranos so he carries a TON of street cred for the rest of his life. Dining at Artie Buco's place when Tony Soprano is there has to make you too big a fish to swim in a small pond like Cape Cod.

Actually Mad Men is a much better show than The Sopranos. Get the DVDs for season 1 and 2.

Barnstable Police need to start laying down the law on all the punks in Hyannis. They already closed all the businesses in town after midnight which punishes the normal people. It is a dark day for the town and the school that this type of crime has been committed.

Up here in Worchester they take HS Football pretty seriously. They have TV shows on the local cable devoted to HS sports every week. Then they have what they call "The Districts" which are championships I guess just for Central Mass since they can never seem to beat any teams from Western or Eastern Mass. Did I mention how much I hate living here......egads.

Even if Pats win today they will be no better than the 7 seed. Only problem is only 6 teams make playoffs. Jets have a better division record so if they lose to Broncs they still get tiebreaker over the Patsies. Cassell is a han and egger. Brady never HAD to throw for 400 yards because the team had a lead in the 2nd half and just ran to use up clock.

What is the over/under on the number of hours The Colonel will spend in the kitchen cooking the holiday meal? Dont tell me the hours in the bedroom please. I didnt play football for Barnstable as I was into hockey and baseball. But I think I could have been a receiver in the mold of Randy Vataha or Tim Dwight. I was a white guy with great speed. In college I won an MVP in a flag football tourney. Anyway Barnstable should be a dominant team on the Cape but there is always something missing. Looks like the weather will be good so get out and support the kids.

Glorious pics Monpon. I should post some pics from Worcester. In the Fall here all the residents throw their leaves and brush into the roads. Then the City has trucks pick them up. But what happens is we get an early snow and the stuff sits there all Winter. You cant park anywhere and as a runner I am dodging piles of leaves in every road. I hate it here...what hillbillies! My Grandfather owned a bog in Pembroke. They said only coal mining was harder work than picking berries. As for Pedroia if he was so valuable then why did the Red Sox finish 2nd in the AL East? Horrendous selection. I used to watch a lot of CFL football. Having players in motion like Arena Ball is too distracting though. But the Cheerleaders in Canada are much prettier than the ones here. And looser too! Have a great weekend....is the Colonel ready to stuff his bird?

Now that I have kids I vote straight Republican as I feel safer putting them to bed with guys like Bush and Cheney in charge. Obama will be like Deval and not deliver on anything. Welcome Comrades!!! We are now in a socialist state and after Obama redistributes the wealth it will be like living in Canada. Up there if you dont feel like working you get a check in the mail and free health care. Obama can now have his Reverend Wright do his "Goddam America" sermons right in the White House. Lets all tell the truth...Moonbats didnt vote FOR Obama...they voted against Bush. Bush was so successful that their jealousy blinded them. I am sitting here with a mortgage under 6% and my pay has gone up every year Bush has been in charge. Bush restored our countires dignity after Billy Clinton dragged it thru the mud. Wait until Obama slaps a 25% capital gains tax on the sale of homes...even the Moonbats will cry when their money is redistributed to people who "dont feel like working" or "made a mistake in life".....hilarious!!!

Come to think of it the cuisine along the Cranberry Hiway is exquisite. You had McDonalds heading off Cape and then you had Wendys on the other side on the way back. Trying to go to a restaurant on the opposite side you were traveling was impossible with the traffic flow pre route 25. Chinese food was available at the rotary at China Bay or further up at Hong Kong Island. At the bridge rotary you also had Burger King and Grandmas the place with the tugboat. I never went into Grandmas or the Lobster Pot but they had good reviews. For seafood Lindsays was a jewel. But Charlies is where we spent most of our dollars while traveling on that road. There was one other place we used to stop on the right hand side going off Cape that looked like an old house. They had good chicken but I cant remember the name. As kids we didnt have no internet and like 4 channels on TV so going out to eat was a big deal. Now I have to take 1 kid to High School Musical 3....$$$$$

I used to work at the Centerville Tedeschis in the late 70s early 80s. If these rodents had come in to rob the store in my day this story would read differently. We had a crue of guys working there then that would have turned the robber into a pile of broken bones. The cops only problem would have been identifying the corpse. How about Rodney Harrison, Tedy Bruschi and Mike Vrabel calling Ricky Williams a dirty player!!! Height of comedy as they are the three biggest cheap shot artists in the league!!!!! LMAOROTF. Bruschi is an embarrasment and should have retired 3 years ago...all he does is jump on the pile after the play is blown dead. Harrison is an old goat and possibly menatlly imbalanced. Vrable might as well have a tatt that says "STEROIDS". Cassell needs to go as he cant keep the offense on the field long enough for the old men on the Patriots Defense to catch their breath. Moonbat definition from Howie Carr:

-You refer to the current national administration as the “Cheney-Bush regime.”
-You’ve used the word “Halliburton” at least once in the last 10 minutes.
-The biggest issue in the state: gay marriage.
-You’re the only one on your block who still has the Globe delivered.
-Your car contains at least three of the following bumper stickers: “Redefeat Bush,” “1-20-09,” “We ARE a Family and We Vote,” “Kerry-Edwards,” “Free Mumia,” “9/11 Was an Inside Job” and “Got Hope?”
-You scoff at people who believe in God, but just as fervently believe that there is a “scientific consensus” about global warming.
-You haven’t uttered the word “Christmas” since 1983, lest you offend someone.

I dont read all of Howie's columns but you have to admit...this is SPUN GOLD!

Who called all the Moonbats into this chat session. Bottom line is the Bush has done a GREAT job protecting America and our Allies from Islamic Fascists. My mortgage is below 6% and my home value has gone up over $100,000 since I bought in 2002...and that is in depressed Worcester. Americans were too smart to elect wierdos like Hanoi John Kerry and Fat Al Gore and did the right thing electing George W Bush. I have a friend from Umass on the NYFD and he was at the site on 9/11. He survived and every year his crew gets taken to a celebrity golf tournament in South Carolina for free. That is a nice gesture we should all give to the heros in America. Any Moonbat who says we arent safer as a nation now with military bases in Afghanistan and Iraq is brain dead. When is the last time a bus blew up in Israel....is that crickets I hear??? It is because Bush has defeated the terrorists and any nation that harbors them knows they will pay the price if something happens. I feel safer when I put my kids to bed with Bush in charge....I am will feel safer for the next 4 years with McCain and Palin!

Thanks for the pics Monpon. How are you and the Colonel going to ride out the storm tomorrow night? On second thought dont answer that. Are you making an appearance at the Bourne Scallop Festival this year? I watched the latest edition of Hard Knocks on HBO tonight. The Cowboys seem to be a loose team but Romo seems to be the only guy that gets it. Zach Thomas and the rookie Felix Jones look good but TO and Crayton scare me at WR. Jerry Jones is a real hands on owner if this show is real and not staged. If Barber and Jones can make hay in the running game and with Witten at TE they should win 12 games. My new favorite show since the Sopranos is gone is Mad Men on AMC. If you havent watched this get the Season 1 DVD and then all of season 2 should be ON DEMAND for free on your cable system. Best show of this decade for sure. Here are my picks on my Mafia Football Card for Week 1:
Seattle Seahags +1
Ny Jets -3
Arizona Cardinals -3
Dallas Cowboys -6

I will be at the ATM making a deposit....WOOOOOOOOOOOO! Have a great weekend. I will be at Umass vs Holy Cross football tomorrow.

I looked forward to the Olympics with a huge YAWN. However I found that every night myself, the wife and the 2 daughters were glued to the events. I didnt like every sport but I watched them all. The boxing is awful now without the suspense of the judges decision hanging at the end. With the scoreboard it takes the fun out. A guy I know was in the Beach Volleyball competition, Todd Rogers. I have been posting on his blog the last couple of years and we correspond. I met him in Quincy last year. ( see here http://centerville02632.blogspot.com/ ) What a great guy. He lost the opening match to Latvia but then ran the table for the gold. The ladies Beach VB was outstanding as well. After watching the US track team choke it makes Phelps accomplishment even MORE incredible. Boy did he deliver the goods. He has no dog ( or Manny the Mutt) in him. Imagine how many of the posters of Phelps in his Speedo with the 8 medals will sell in P-Town. Every bed will have one over the ceiling. CHA CHING! The coverage was pretty good as I have 5 or 6 Olympic channels and 3 in high def. Good show

First of all the customer asking Nantucket questions was probably more interested in you than Nantucket. I live up here in Worchester and every day people ask me about places in Dennis, Yarmouth and Falmouth. Being from Barnstable I never really spent any time in these other towns with the exception of defunct bars like Rascals, Brothers Four and the Compass Lounge. They cant understand why I dont know the entire Cape and Islands. Nantucket is the greatest place in the World for a Summer vacation. The girl I went with back in the 90s loved the island and we would go there the first week of August every year for like 5 years. We rented bikes for the week and went to Madaket, Sconset, Surfside, Jetties etc. The island is truly magic and with the high prices it keeps out the rift raft....kind of like Starbucks! I havent been back there since we went seperate ways back in like 1993 but I think about it all the time. As for customer service I used to work at what is now Tedeschis in Centerville. I didnt mind helping tourists but as a Finance major I knew they were the Capes lifeblood.

Lets get these punks off the streets and into the bars where they will generate tax revenue. College Presidents want the drinking age lowered to 18 and I agree. That was the drinking age when I was at Barnstable High in the late 70s and the last time I checked I am still alive. As for the tagging I say these want to be artists should be rounded up sent over to Cuttyhunk for a few weeks to get their minds right. Then they can draw and write poems on the inside of their cells while Boggs from Shawshank Redemption and the rest of the Sistas chase them around.....YEAH.

I wont post my comments on Manny the Mutt. Just go to the Boston Herald where my classmate from Umass 1984 Gerry Callahan did a GREAT send off for the Clown Prince of Boston. Callahan DESTROYED Manny and I savored every word. YUM YUM!
I down to the Patriots training camp today. I didnt want to go watch a real life version of The Longest Yard (criminals playing football) but my wife, kids and roommate from Umass wanted to go. There had to be about 6000 fans there. It was free admission and I didnt spend a cent. I even used the bathroom at Circuit City in Krafts new Patriot Place mall for free. Fenway Park was built for people of smaller stature circa 1912 but Monpon must have felt like it was custom built for her petit build. I miss the communal peeing in the old horse troughs in the men's rooms at Fenway that have been removed. I think Monpon should ask the Colonel if she can apply for the Sox Appeal TV show...that would be GREAT TV!!!!
P.S.- If you see Hazel Mae tell her I miss them....I mean her.

I see that Tommy Doyles is opening soon on Main Street. That place will ALWAYS be T Rossi's Bar to me. I had so many good times in that place. After your 6th drink on a Summer night you felt like you were in a tropical bar on South Beach. Great atmosphere and great drink concoctions. I dropped a ton of cash in there. I even gut shut off the night the Celtics won the Title in 1984 there.

The old guy at the crash in Dennis needs some advice: The hat is Ok and the untucked T shirt is the way to go. The shorts arent that bad as they arent the short shorts from the 70s you see lots of nuts wearing. But here is where you completely fall apart...black knee socks and dress shoes???? How can you wake up and think putting these on your feet is a good idea? This has to be the worst decision since Bill Clinton locked himself and Monica in the Oval Office. Get some Nike kicks and Champion brand shoe socks ($10 for 3 pairs but well worth it). I hate to see fashion faux pas like this. Even a pair of Tevas or Adidas flip flps is acceptable but the fashion police should arrest this dude.

I dont know what the beef with the commenters is here but if you people want some real problems move up here to Worcester for a few years. It will put things in perspective for you...FAST. As for the Burger King on North Street that area is pretty tough at night. North Street is where the homeless hang and where the Young Gs hang out at 7/11. There used to be a FANTASTIC restaurant on North Street called Coyote...I loved that place. It used to be a bar called the Claddagh or the Purple Shamrock at times too. When I was a kid the only hamburger joint was Kemps across from Mildreds Chowder House. Then the McDonlads on 132 came in and my life was complete. I grew up off Old Stage Road so we could take Oak St to the newer Burger King at Exit 6 that was open 24x7. Talk about an oasis after a night at the bars. Jack in the Box used to have an outlet behind the Cape Cod Mall where the package store is now...I didnt like their patties though.

The Port O Call has seen its share of gun and knife play over the years. I know a couple guys from Hyannis that went there and lets just say they will never go back. Some tough birds hang there. Kind of like The Salty Spitoon bar for Sponge Bob fans. Back in the 80's during the NBA Finals I would literally live and die on each possession. But now being in my late 40's I find I dont root for the teams but for myself. I have to be up at 6am to get myself ready for work, empty dishwasher, iron my clothes and make lunches. Monday is garbage day in my part of Worchester too. So the TV goes off at 10pm no matter what. I can watch the highlights in 5 minutes on ESPN.com. My wife has bought into the whole Boston sports thing and stays up til the end of each game and then is dragging the next day. I am not going to go out of my way to watch a bunch of criminals (see Nick Kazur).

Hey Monpon for some kicks go over to this Lakers blog and talk some smack. It is written by a guy I know through the net named Beto Duran who works for ESPN http://stevemasonsmog.typepad.com/710_espns_lakers_blog/

Ooh La La...who is that Yarmouth female cop? She fills in the bulletproof vest nicely. They should have set up the sobriety checkpoint at the entrance to the Kennedy Compound. I used to drive home after 25 cent drink night at the Compass Lounge in the 80s. Now I NEVER have more than 2 beers when I have to drive. Cheaper to get a cab or a hotel room near the bar. Guy on scooter was probably trying to save gas money now he has $100,000 medical bill. I see more people on bikes up here in Worchester too. Enjoy the holiday.
05/18/08 @ 9:59 am
Let me get this straight....when someone has a medical emergency like a seizure or say for example is in a submerged vehicle you call for help and they get taken to the hospital where their lives are saved? Can someone verify that this is what you do?

Dear UMass Fans,
I want to personally thank all of the passionate UMass fans who have supported our basketball program this season. It means so much to me and our players that thousands of you made the trips down to New York City during our run to the NIT Championship game.
You, the fans, were a driving force behind our success all season long and especially in the NIT. I know our players have said, they love the UMass fans, and I echo their sentiments. The UMass fans have shown tremendous energy and enthusiasm which really motivates the team. You are our sixth man and you really made a difference.
I look forward to next season and seeing all of you pack the Mullins Center to support what is sure to be, once again, a high-energy up-tempo team. It was great to see you all standing, cheering and chanting at the games in Madison Square Garden, and I would love to have the same enthusiasm at the Mullins Center. We want to make Mullins an intimidating place for our opponents to come to and you have so much to do with that. Go Umass!

As I stated before I have driven the intersection of Lumberts Mill and Rt 28 since 1976 when I got my license. I dont know what is the matter with these people. Do they need computers to drive their cars? If you are trying to take a left coming out of the Osterville side Lumberts during busy times you are insane. Take a right and the a left on Ames and then get back on Rt 28. Same with taking a left to go towards Hyannis. There are a ton of back roads you can use to get to Old Stage or 4 Corners road which have better access to 28. Plus you can take a right in either direction and get to Cape Cod Package Store in Centerville or Craigville Package Store next to the White Hen in Osterville. What is the problem people. Good for Barnstable. I went to the Bruins vs Ottawa game yesterday. Only my second live Broons games since they left the old Garden. My roommate from Umass has Broons season tickets and got 10 tickets for this game. The seats were up near the moon and the current Bruins are a bunch of nobodies and no ones. There is a core of about 10000 die hard Bruins fans still left but I have seen better hockey at the Kennedy Rink. I wouldnt spend $10 to see this team. The loudest cheers of the day were when the Bruins Ice Girls (also known as IceAss) did the T Shirt throws and when they have a guy dressed exactly like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack due the fairway dance. The Bruins are SO desperate to retain season ticket holders that my buddy has received 2 calls from Cam Neely himself in the last week asking why he hasnt renewed for 2008-09 season. Our once proud program has now gone without an NCAA appearance since 1998 and we havent won a game in the A10 tourney since 2001. THIS CANT BE REAL....NO WAY. When Coach Cal was here we won 5 straight A10 Regular Season and Conference Tournament Championships. The only question now is what bridge to jump off of....Sagamore or Bourne. I tried the Bass River Bridge and the one on Centerville River but I just got a little wet. Maybe one of the gymnasts from Barnstable High can come over and ease my depression. Plus I lost 35 units at Foxwoods last night. Maybe I go to the Port O Call tonight and pick a fight with some local toughs.

Hyannisport Presidents was a good find. I still have some Cape Cod Cubs memorabilia. My Dad bought season tickets when the Cubs came to the Cape Cod Coliseum. Or maybe people on the Cape are burning some unusual tree. When Yastrzemski's kid played for Harwich I saw Captain Carl at Cotuit. The kid is now deceased. If I win a big lotto someday I will bring Pro Hockey back to the Cape.

There should be a rule that you cant blog on this site after burning tree. The economy doing fine. My mortgage is below 6% and the stock market is up near 12,000. Real estate prices are coming down which is great for people looking to get into the market. We havent had a terrorist attack in 7 years and oil companies are making record profits which will enable them to find more oil and keep the supply plentiful. The economy on the Cape might be down because our state cant attract new jobs. The unions help elect the same Democratic bums every year but the laws protecting union labor make Massachusetts unattractive. Why so you think the movie about the Cape Cod Baseball League "Summer Catch" was filmed in North Carolina?? Mass has more debt outstanding per citizen than any other state. Vote out these bums and maybe the Mall will have some patrons and the Cape will have full time jobs. Also listen to Howie Carr....he is wicked smart.

If I am ever in that mall and someone tries to rip me off they will be sending the coroner and not the Paddy Wagon. The cat fight was probably over a guy. Statistics that came out this week show that 1 out of every 100 people in the USA is behind bars. In Hyannis that must be like 1 in 7. THis is quite a compilation of high school sports. Well done. My Uncle and Father grew up in Carver, Mass. The Uncle went to Silver Lake and played basketball for former Celtics Assistant Coach John Killelea from 1955 to 1958. My father went to Plymouth High and was a football player. I went to Barnstable High and we never had good hoops teams. Hockey ruled the day in town. I lived at Umass in Amherst from 1980 to 1984. The basketball teams at Umass in that era were awful. Umass needs to be able to recruit the best Massachusetts high school players to move back up the polls. The Anderson kid from up near Lowell ended up at Memphis playing for Coach Cal. His brother went to Umass. Umass cant recuit against BC, UConn and national powers so we get the guys who have some baggage or academic issues. Sunday at Gallo Arena you have Barnstable and Falmouth playing back to back games in the pucks tournament. Could be a bloodbath over there.

I havent watched a Celtics game all year. First of all Gorman and Heihnson are worse than terrible. Greg Dickerson used to have a sports show on the radio here in Worcester and he would LITERALLY get 1 or 2 calls over 4 hours. Not only was he fired but the whole station shut down. Now the 1440 AM just simulcasts WEEI from Boston. I had a running feud with Dickerson when he was here in Worcester about Umass basketball. When he got fired I sent him an email saying it couldnt have happened to a nicer guy. He wrote back and challenged me to a fight about "making fun of a guy who lost his livelyhood". What a jackarse. I do watch evey minute I can of Umass basketball. I went up to Amherst on Sunday and for $14 I got 3rd row seats to an excellent game. Also had a perfect view of the cheerleaders and dance team (*)(*). Parking was free and pitchers of beers flowed pre and post game at McMurphys in Amherst for $6 a piece. CANT BEAT THAT VALUE. 20 years ago you could sit without a remote and watch a whole game. Now I find I need a remote AND my laptop as you need constant stimulation.good blog

When Bobby Grier was in New England he got a bad wrap as a player personnel guy. He did a pretty good job but was made a scapegoat. As for the NFL scouts I can say these guys by and large are overpaid stiffs. I will never forget watching a lot of college football back in the day and telling everyone that Fred Marion from The U was a great player. He didnt get taken until the 5th round and became an All Pro. Here is his wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Marion Hell, Dan Marino didnt go until late in the first round after rumors that he was burning tree surfaced. The Red Sox may have won 2 World Series but neither of them were compelling at all and both titles were clinched on the road. This iteration of the Red Sox doesnt have a signature play unless you count Dave Roberts steal agsinst the Yankees but that is pretty weak. You dont have a Kirk Gibson home run or even a Dave Henderson or Carlton Fisk one to hang your hat on. Plus I am not afraid to tell the truth that the Red Sox like the Patriots are not a "likeable" group. Manny Ramirez is a horse's petute and Schilling is a loud mouth (although I love his politics!!). And the Sox fans who 5 years ago didnt know if a baseball had air in it or is stuffed with feathers invade enemy parks and make total arses or themselves. And these people are suprised when a guy like Jonny Damon goes to the Yankees for more money...how stupid are these people to drop a mortgage payment to see criminals @ Fenway? The Patirots are the most hated team nationwide right now.

Hi Bree-
I read your bio and I have a similar story. I went to Barnstable High and then graduated from Umass in Amherst in 1984. I came back to the Cape and tried my hand at Real Estate but it went down the tubes. Like you I packed all my possessions in a car (Ford Escort) and drove north to Boston where I hung out with friends. I ended up staying with a girl I met in Hyannis that summer at Assumption College in Worcester. Nearly 25 years later I am still here in Worcester and miss the Cape and my family and friends there every minute. However I have banked a small fortune and have a great family of my own here but as I always say....I LIVE in Worcester but Barnstable is my HOME. Anyway I used to live near Amherst College in South Amherst and I miss that area too. I am actually going to Amherst tomorrow for a Umass basketball game and some drinking...YES! I had a dentist in Hyannis when I was young that was stripped of his license. Then I found a great guy in Centerville who replaced a lot of the work that disbarred guy did. Plus he had a hot hygenist...another YES!
02/22/08 @ 6:04 pm
You people want some troubles come up and live here in Worcester. We are getting the big snow out here. You people on the Cape have gotten soft living in paradise.

I would say that they shouldnt post pics of "kids" under 21 but maybe this will wake up one kid and save a life. She looks she has cried her eyes out. I am not judging these people as I drove home from 25 cent drink night at the Compass lounge circa 1983 with 12 rum and cokes in the vault. Imagine the uproar if they still had 25 cent drink Happy Hours on the Cape....woooo!
02/21/08 @ 2:40 pm
Back in the day the 19th Hole Tavern in Hyannis had a 2 for 1 Screwdriver Happy Hour from 7-9am weekday mornings. The CC Times workers would come across from Main St after working on the paper all night. Maybe someone at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks spiked this dudes coffee this morning. He better call Jim Sokolove.
02/21/08 @ 7:51 am
The guy with the baseball bat may have been just getting ready for tryouts at Barnstable High or preparing for a spot on the Hyannis Mets in the Cape League. Was he using an old school wood bat or an aluminum one? I will assume he is an older dude as the kids today prefer guns or shivs.

The intersection where that ham and egger hit the tree on Race Lane is notorious for accidents. Maybe he got the munchies and on the way to the White Hen Pantry his bong spilled and he lost control thus hitting said tree. If I ever had a few too many back in the day I coulod take side roads to get to the intersection of Route 132, 6A and Oak Street in West Barnstable and then cut thru a housing development to Old Stage Road and I was home without seeing any BPD smokeys. Plus the 24 Hour Burger King at Exit 6 was an oasis for everyone who didnt want the night to end. The early 80s on the Cape were the best and it has been all downhill since then for the bar scene.

Just got back from a weekend in Boston. What a filthy city. The area around the Boston Garden is a dump. Sidewalks have holes you could bury a dog in. I took my daughter to the Dunkin Donuts on Canal Street this morning and had to fend off 2 panhandlers and a group of homeless fighting over a garbage bag. Stayed at the Hotel Onyx right near the Garden and that was very good but the neighborhood sucks. I thought the new Garden was suppose to generate new investment in that area. At least it was too cold for the hookers and Johns to roam around. Best bet is to stay at the Copley Marriott and you can walk inside the attached malls without freezing to death. But my wife did have a bracelet stolen from there once. Best dunker I ever saw was a guy named Darnell Hillman from the Indiana Pacers. See if he is on YouPorn,,,,I mean YouTube. Did the Colonel watch The 500 or was he burning tree with his buddies down at PavePaws radar site?

Okkkkaayyyyyy...so in 2005 in Denver the Coors was spiked so Brady thru "The Interception" to Champ Bailey. And in 2006 the Hoosier Dome heat was turned up and crowd noise was pumped in. And in 2007 the Arizona Desert Flu caused the Patsies to wear Depends. What is going to be the excuse in 2008...Aliens put itching powder in their jock straps? Maybe the team is just too old and Brady has choked 3 years in a row?? Even Stevie Wonder could see a trend here. Here are som suggestions for getting Monpon's mind off the greatest choke is sports history:
1. Jello wrestling versus Elle
2. Take Colonel to Adam & Eve Nite at Zacharys
3. Wear a leather cap and assless chaps while strolling Commercial Street in P-Town
4. Fly down to Miami and drive over Mercury Morris' lawn.
5. Apply for maid position at Bob Kraft's Mashpee mansion paid for buy suckers who buy season tickets to watch a gang of criminals play football.

The Colonel told me when he married Stacy she didnt even know what a kitchen was..she grew up with servants in Duxbury and referred to the kitchen as "the room with the firebox that the maid cooks the food in". Or amybe they couldnt use real utensils that could be turned into shivs if the Patsies choked in the Super Bowl.

I am not going to gloat but I knew this Patriots team wasnt all that great. The entire season they only had to make one trip west of the Mississippi (Dallas) and they play in an easier division than Umass has. Plus you cant have a bunch of old men on defense. Also Brady lived on the back of his defenses in the previous winning years. Now he has gone down in flames in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Lets get real here. Did they take Monpon to Tobey Hospital on a stretcher like they do with Britney Spears? Was the papparazzi from Cape Cod News on hand? If you have frustrations go work them off at Zacharys Amateur nite...plus you get some cash.

I am voting for McCain in the Primary. As for the Super Bowl I heard Rod Woodson today and he picked the Giants. The ESPN poll shows that only 6 states are rooting for the Patsies (MA, NH, RI, VT, ME and Michigan (Brady school)) Conn. is in New England and 60% are rooting for the Giants. Here in Worcester there are a ton of Giants fans. Chris Collinsworth says Eli should come out in a no huddle to wear down the VERY OLD Pats defense. Then Jacobs and Bradshaw can run wild in the 2nd half and eat clock. If the phantom "illegal contact" call hadnt been made in the first Pats vs Giants game when the Pats failed on 3 and 24 the game would have been different. The Pats always have the refs on their side since they built a stadium for the NFL. I will say 34-32 Giants win. If I hit a square I dont care who wins...I LIKE THE CASH!!!!

Cape Cod Frenzy should play at CCCC. Dont they have a gym there? I know they have tons of parking (tailgate ready)plus it is right off Exit 6. First of all congratulations to all that were rooting for the Patriots. I used to be just like you people..even maybe worse. I had the season tickets and worshipped these guys. When Hugh Millen had a radio show at the Greendale Mall in Worcester I was the ONLY fan that showed up. I talked to Hugh and the famous Touchdown Twins (Mannix and Hobson) about players the Pats could sign to get back out of the NFL cellar. I also met Hugh's then fiance Lisa Coles (later became Lisa Guerrero) and spoke to her (she was so beautiful I could barely make my lips move). I sat in rain storms and freezing cold on the aluminum benchs at Shaefer Stadium. I just find this present iteration of the Patriots unlikeable. Besides I learned a long time ago that if the Patriots go 19-0 the next 5 seasons my mortgage payment will not change, I will not get an extra weeks vacation at work and I wont wake up next to Jessica Simpson even if the Pats beat the Giants 100-0. That being said I think this Super Bowl we will see the torch passed from the failing hands of over 30 Tom Brady to the new King Eli Manning.

I dont even know where to start on this one. First of all that picture isnt Jessica. The Daily News sent a Jessica imposter to the game on Sunday and that is the pic you got. There was a big story on it and video on the newspaper website. The imposter even puts in brown contacts to complete the look of the real Jessica. As for Dukes of Hazzard the movie I thought that was GREAT. It was done by the guys from Broken Lizard who have done Super Troopers and Beerfest. Jessica was AWESOME in that movie and it was very funny. I still watch it on cable. The Giants defense and special teams are playing great. The offense doesnt have Shockey but Toomer, Burress, Bradshaw, Manning and Jacobs have all peaked at the same time. They were just better than the Cowboys. Bum Phillips should have taken over for Wade. For Romo the pressure to perform in the wrapper with JS must have made facing the G Men D Line a Sunday walk in the park. Anyway this is the only blog on the site that doesnt blame George Bush for anything and everything.....although Jessica is a Bush supporter which makes her irrisistable

First of all the money we are spending in Iraq to give those people an alternative to being kamikazees or suicide bombers will keep us and our grandchildren alive. Bush has done a wonderful job in that region. As for the Airport Rotary I think it is part of the Cape's charm. Plus if cable goes out you can sit in the parking lot of the old Red Crotch Grille and watch better racing than ESPN has. The key to driving a rotary is knowning the guy in the rotary has the right of way and you need to stay to the far outside lane. Getting from Barnstable Road to Rt 28 requires some skill as people on the inside lane try to get to 132 and you have to pen them in like Chevy Chase in European Vacation in the London rotary. Any monies spent in Hyannis should go to Main Street and the waterfront. Bars were closing at 9pm last Summer due to a lack of customers. Couldnt find anything good on TV so I started looking at some of Bill Simmons (ESPN Page 2) YouTube Links. If you get the chance watch Bobby Orrs retirement ceremony. It is in 5 parts. If that doesnt bring a tear to your eye you are either dead or on qualludes. Breathtaking. No athlete will ever be to Boston what Bobby Orr was. That was a magic time that will never be repeated. Orrs goal to win the Cup is the greatest moment in Boston Sports history. Both of the Red Sox World Series have been sleepers. The poster of the 2004 Red Sox season is Roberts stealing 2nd base (yawn)...not exactly Sid Bream winning the Pennant for the Braves. Brady doesnt have a big play on his resume like Joe Montanas "The Catch" or pass to Taylor to win the Super Bowl or even Elways helicopter run. Brady does have the fumble that lost the Raiders playoff game that got reversed thanks to Myra Kraft fronting the money for the NFL to build a stadium here. Orr is to Boston Sports what Bret the Hitman Hart is to wrestling..The Best there ever was..the best there is...and the best there ever will be. WOOOOOOOOOO!

I picture Monpon as a Philip Rivers worshipper....he never shuts up, yells at everyone and has unpredictable behavior. Like Geroge Costanza once said..."He has it all". Norv Turner has only one hope..you have to get to Brady and punish him early. No team has done this for some unknown reason. Even if you give up an early TD if you get a couple solid hits on the absentee Daddy he will not be the same. Remember when Denver rattled him and he threw away the season into the hands of Champ Bailey? The Chargers can score on the Pats D but they need to figure out how to get the ball in the hands of Laurence Fumbles Maroney and they have a chance. I think the NFL wants Favre to raise the Lombardi in the desert...and I know the 72 Dolphins do. With no Monday night football of any kind I have to either watch English soccer, WWE Wrestling or Bill Oreilly. Maybe I will just make some Lynchburg Lemonade and fall asleep....12 inches snow here...WORCESTER SUCKS!!!

Democrats like Bruce Springsteen and Deval Patrick have millions in the bank and want the rest of us taxed back to the stone ages to support programs for "the arts" and in state tuition for "guest workers". Only problem for Hollywood types is that Americans are smarter than they thought and voted for the right candidate in Bush that lets the people who actually work keep their money. If you bought a house the day Bush was inagurated it woiuld have tripled in value...that is good management. Plus Bush restored dignity to the Oval office after Bill Clinton embarrassed our entire nation. Right now I am leaning to McCain for the sole reason of his military background that we need to make the enemies of our country pay the piper. It has taken us 400 years since the Pilgrims landed to build this country. Brady is 2-2 in has last 4 playoff games and the Pats linebackers spend more time drinking Geritol than watching film. I get the English soccer league channel now on Charter and I have to say I find myself watching it more then NHL hockey. The crowds are so passionate over there. Time to fix a drink!!!

John Cusack's best movie I think is the cult classic "Better Off Dead". At Hyannis Drive Inn you could sneak thru the woods to Parkers Package Store to replensih your cooler during the movie. It was before my time but there were stories of the Secret Service taking President Kennedy to the Hyannis Drive In.

You people must be graduates of Falmouth High where the two majors are cranberry picking and ferry boat skipper. A majority of our oil comes from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Norway. Monpon-
The channel I get here on Charter is called MAVTV. It is in the sports tier along with the Soccer channels and Fuel etc. I had to get that tier so I can watch Umass Hoops on CSTV, ESPNU and ESPN Classic. Anyway MAVTV not only has ladies wrestling but alos Roller Derby. Now that is a sport that used to be fairly mainstream and is just now making a resurgence. I used to stay up late in the ealry 70s to watch the Philadelphia Warriors and Raquel Welch even made a movie about that league. As a teenage boy I got more T&A on the Roller Derby than network TV. There was another Roller Derby federation that was on TV more and the top team was the Bay Area Bombers. At least these womens sports are more entertaining than the WNBA or ATP tennis.

You should be pitching this stuff in Hollywood. A friend of mine from Barnstable now has a production company in West LA and he pitched a reality show to Fox. Had something to do with 80s bands but didnt get picked up. Bin Laden has been neutralized and his organization crumbled. Going after him would be like taking down the guy that ran Zayre's Department store...there is nothing under him anymore. As my other posts reveal I was a political junkie and donator in wanting to get Bush elected..twice. This race with Obama and Huckabee etc does nothing for me and I dont even follow what is going on. I will vote for McCain in the Mass primary. When I put my kids to bed after the next inauguration I will not feel as comfortable as I do now with Bush in office. Your ideas are very good...were these concocted after a few beverages at Dinos Sports Bar in Mashpee? When are you going to do more profiles of the Celtics dancers and the hard working girls over at Zacharys? You could go undercover and work there for a few weeks to get the REAL story.

Lucky for us that George Bush isnt like James. Bush thinks ALL people deserve a shot at democracy...even the ones in the Middle East. And James you are FREE enough to pack up and leave the "secret gulag" anytime you want. Go up to Canada and check your tax bill then. I bought my house in 2002 for 190K and it is worth over 300K now..where did you go to math classes...the boys reform school on Cuttyhunk? You are just another liberal who cant stand the fact that Bush has done a good job and he wasnt "your guy". I love all these people who attack "evil corporations". Where do you think must of us work and invest our retirement money...WITH LARGE CORPORATIONS!!!! Norway produces more oil than any of the Middle East countries but is Bush attacking them??? Do us a favor and take a few courses at CCCC before you post again....or go to Joes Twin Villa in Osterville and keep drinking until you start making some sense!!! Up here in Worchester the bumper stickers with the date of Bush's last day in office are everywhere...if you think like the hillbillies here in Worchester do it is BAD!

Yeah Bush has done a bad job...My mortgage is below 6% and the stock market is up near 14000....bring back Clinton so I can double my mortgage payments and tax bills!!!! The USA now has military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan...oh wouldnt we be more safe building a fence at Craigville Beach to keep the terrorists out. Bush will be remembered as a GREAT President because he had the cajones to take on the terrorists and wipe them off the map. They took down 2 buildings in NYC and we took two of their countries. They want to hit us again we will take more of their space. The Government has spies....oh we dont want those...they might find out we play the football cards on weekends !!!! What a crock the liberals are...Bush provides the freeedom they demand but they dont like how he delivers it...and then when their own people tax them back to the stone ages they cry like little girls. I have a channel on my sports tier now that has Chickfights from San Franciso. It is a girls wrestling league and they only have about 100 fans in the stands. Bush wanted to let citizens take control of their own social security money and people freaked. I work with people that think every penny is disposable income and that the Government should take care of them when they retire. I started investing seriously when I was 25 and it has really paid off. Granted I have a degree in Finance from Umass Amherst and was probably more savvy than most but i knew I had to take of myself. Self accountability is what Bush has preached. People are just too stupid or scared to take control of their own lives and eant a helping hand from the USA. Irving R Scheister started out as Ricky Rotondo from Syracuse U. One time I saw The Unpredictable Johnny Rodz in Yarmouth....nice guy. At a wrestling show at Dunfeys in Hyannis Handsome Jimmy Valiant and his brother Luscious Johnny Valiant got pelted with ice cubes and the ring announcer threatened the crowd that the proceedings would be halted if anymore ice was thrown into the squared circle. Good times.

I am conceding defeat in this election as I have had the joy of rubbing my liberal friends noses in it for 8 years while my guy George Bush has held the Executive Branch top spot. In the book I am now reading called Mayflower by Philbrick I found that the Pilgrims feared attack and went north to take out the threat from the Massachusetts Indians preemptivley. That worked out pretty well as what is now the United States began to take form as the other Indians backed off plans to wipe out Plymouth. Bush did this strategy with Iraq/Afghan and that has succeeded as well. I will vote for McCain in the Mass primary. People in this state would vote for Jeffrey Dahmer if he has a (D) next to hi name and then complain all day after he taxed them back to the stone ages like our present Beacon Hill legislature does. I got my wife and 2 daughters tickets to Hannha Montana at Worcester Centrum for the Dec 22nd show. THEY LOVED IT. I live 7 clicks from downtown Worchester in Tatnuck Square so I could drop off and pick up and save parking money. While they watched Miley make millions I watched The Good Shepard with Matt Damon. I give that 5 1/2 stars. Beerfest is 10 times more entertaining if you are looking for good cinema. I will be rooting for Giants (I like Eli and Ole Miss), Skins (my Aunt cuts Joe Gibbs hair and he gave her 2 signed Bibles for Xmas), Jags (will give the Pats the best game) and Chargers (They have the MVP and I think they will win it all). I suffered as a Pats season ticket holder for years in extreme cold, rain and snow so I pray that the Saturday night game at Foxboro is as miserbale weather wise as possible. Let these people suffer like I did for years while I sit at home nice and warm with my Jack Daniel's and DJs Wings imported from Hyanus. If you look at the town map of Barnstable you can see that the border of Centerville and Hyannis is just on the Barnstable High side of Strawberry Hill Road. So Lamberts is well within Centervilles borders. A good trivia question is to ask old timers if Route 132 passes thru Centerville (it does for about 100 ft in the north corner of the village). Also the Mid Cape hiway passes thru only two of the villages of Barnstable: West Barnstable and Barnstable. It does not touch Hyannis whcih I didnt know until I got the map. I would spew some more facts but I have a bottle of jack Daniel's that isnt going to drink itself.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Growing up in Barnstable and also driving back and forth to my school Umass Amherst the towns of Bourne and Warehan were mere pit stops. The Ye Olde Package store at the Sagamore rotary was a staple for Umass and Fenway park bound travelers. Charlies Saloon on the Carnberry Hiway was the best place for pizza. A friend of mine was shown a gun at the Port O Call so we steered clear of that place. Breakfast at Quintals was good eating. THey used to advertise the "Crack of Dawn" breakfast and we would always ask to meet Dawn. THere was an A Frame package store at the Bourne rotary too along with the Burger King that was a welcome stop after battling thru the Cranberry Hi way traffic.

On the list of 10,000 things I miss about living on the Cape one of them is the holiday tradition of affixing a wreath to the front of your car. No one does that here in Worchester. My Dad was from Carver Mass so trips to Edaville from Barnstable were a staple growing up. My last Christmas living on the Cape was in 1984. Christmas night I went to a party in Centerville and this guy made an awesome punch. I woke up the next day fully clothed with my jacket still on back at my parents house with no idea how I got there. I ran to the driveway and my car was there so I knew I didnt walk home. Turns out my brother showed up at the party and drove me and my buddy home. Still one of the best Christmases I ever had. Merry Christmas to all!!!! In 1989 I did the Kelley 13.1 miles in a respectable 1 hour 33 mins. I did the Hyannis Half Marathon in 2000 at 40 yrs old in 1 hour 41 min which was a good run for me too. Monpon you have to start living in the real world. All of the success of Boston Sports teams translates very little into anything that really matters. Sure the state coffers pick up some extra tax money on hotel rooms for playoff games but how much of that will funnell to John Q Public? Even if every Boston teams goes undefeated your mortgage payment will not decrease, you will not get any younger, the Colonel will not become better looking and experience an increase in package size, your car payment will still be due every month and your 401K/IRA will not increase in value. The only people winning are the players, owners, political hacks who scoff up tickets and the players drug dealers. I am reading a book written by former Holy Cross and NE Patriots football player Rob McGovern about his service in the JAG crops in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He tells you all of the reasons that what Bush and the Troops are doing over there is right and good for America. The Taliban and Al Queda have been neutralized. We now have bases to launch attacks if necessary anywhere in the Middle East. Girls are now allowed to go to school in Afghanistan and Iraqis are reentering the world community and economy. Iran and Syria are seeimg what is going on in neighboring countries and asking why they dont have the rights to express themselves like others in the Middle East now do. The Iranian President claims they "have no homosexuals"...that is because he kills them all! The Democrats have been saying for years that Bush is "stirring up a hornets nest of terrorists" or that "the French and other countries dont admire the US anymore". We would load up on the way to Bruins or Sox games and sometimes on the way home. Good times.

There was another place in Bourne my Dad used to take me (this is in the 1970's) called The Home Plate that had a baseball motif. Was just up from the Mezza Luna. Sandy's on the Bridge was a place where you could eat your entire fried clam plate with your hands. The Burger King at the Rotary was a staple when I was going back and forth to Umass Amherst in the early 80's (495 was even finished then). There was a Chinese House on the Cranberry Hiway that I think was Hong Kong Island. Being from Barnstable we only knew Bourne for three things....The Bridges, the bars and Bob Perryman (NFL player). I met Bob's brother Rory at a bar in Boston called the Pour House one night and we had drinks with him...super kid.

There is an old SNL skit where Chris Rock lists the reason Blacks dont play hockey...:
Nat X: I was watchin' a hockey game and I noticed there were no black people. So I looked into this example of the white man once again keepin' the black man down and found out why there were no black people in hockey. First, it's cold out there! Second, we might get our gold teeth knocked out! Third, we have no desire to dominate another professional sport. And, finally, no brother is going to go anywhere there is a bunch of crazy white people wearin' masks and carryin' sticks!

Here in Worcester the most obnoxious people you will ever meet are the fans of the AHL Worcester Sharks. They hate the Boston Bruins and have a thin skin when you tell them the city is losing millions by having a hockey team play in the DCU Center (city owned) in front of 1500 people. When the Worcester IceCats folded some of these people contemplated suicide. They devote their entire lives to following and defending a team that the taxpayers have to subsidize. I hope they go 0-82 this season.

Brady cant be trusted in a big game like this. He is 2-2 in his last 4 postseason game with 6 interceptions. If the brain surgeon on the Chargers who picked off a Brady choke throw in the 4th quarter just took a knee then that would have been another loss for the aging Pats quarterback. Romo IS the Big Dog now and Dallas is STILL America's team....Cowboys 32 Patriots 21. If Randy Moss has another stinker like he did last week look for him to implode faster than the restaurant Derek Sanderson opened on Main Street in Hyannis. YOU KNOW IT !!!!

This Grand Central sounds great but as I think you mentioned in your other post they do have a way to make money. Computers listen to your phone calls and pick up words that will help them market products to you. Gmail does the same thing where they scan your emails and then shoot ads to websites you are viewing for products they think you will liked. So if you are writing or talking about "baseball" the computer will pick it up and they will target you for that type of ad. Pretty ingenious.

You only had 4 winners right out of the 12 early games. You might want to stop smoking the ye olde peace pipe before registering your selections! I went to the Umass vs BC game yesterday. Umass got ripped off big time getting 17 penalties while the frauds from Chestnut Hill were given all the breaks. Umass scored 14 unanswered points but was given a 15 yard celebration penalty and had to kickoff from the 15 yard line. After walking through the dump campus at BC I am glad I went to Umass Amherst. BC is filthy and cramped. YOU WERE....YOU ARE....UMASS!

Here is a law of baseball: If your first baseman and second baseman are bald and your third baseman has more gray hair than Matlock you aint going very far. The Red Sox havent won a post season game in 3 years and they will be lucky to win the one game Beckett pitches. As for Team Cheaters errr I mean the Patriots look for a choke job from Brady this Monday night similar to his last 3 big road games in San Diego and Indy (2006 playoffs) and Denver (2005 playoffs). Bangles 24 Pats 21....OCHO CINCO 2 TDs.

Back in the early 70's in Centerville we had 3 or 4 channels- 4,5 and 7 out of Boston then 6 and 10 out of Providence. Then everyone bought UHF antennas so they could see Bobby Orr on Ch 38. One guy would be on the roof spinning the antenna and he would yell down the chimney to see where the reception was best. Cable TV came in about 1974. What I dont like about news shows now is that they have opinions or slants on the stories. I havent watched a news broadcast or bought a newspaper in years. Get what I want thru the computer. Looks like Ainge likes the Chinese player but Steve Bulpett says my guy Noah has moved up the Celtics charts. Ainge might trade down to pick up another chip. I cant believe people are so in love with Big Al "Weezie" Jefferson. The guy is a ham and egger from what I have seen and the only reason he has stats comparable to other players who have becmoe stars is because he gets a ton of minutes on a BAD team. Gerald Green and Delonte West are 2 other guys that cant get it done. Rondo is 3 or 4 years away from figuring out what to do and Szerbiak and Scalabrine are bona fide stiffs. The Cletics say they are "young enough" and might trade the pick for veteran leadership. Huh? Yes you are young but the young player you have are either stiffs or ham and eggers. Both of these guys would ride the pine in San Antonio. Mark my word...if they dont take Jo Noah they will be sorry. Yes this intersection can be bad if you drive with your head up your arse. Even worse is just up the street where Shoot Flying Hill meets Rt 132. The Burger King entrance whcih also serves as the on ramp to Route 6 and commuter parking is a free for all. The 24 hour Burger King drive thru was an oasis for us back in the 1980s after a long day and night of drinking. Food never tasted so good. The Broons do have quasi cheereleaders that come out and skate around during breaks. They are referred to by the fans as Ice Ass. Yes the Bruins did rule Boston from 1969 to 1976. Bobby Orr was perhaps more popular than any athlete in the City's history. My Dad had a connection for tickets which were VERY hard to come by. His Boss knew Fred Cusick the Bruins announcer who still lives in Barnstable village and we got great seats during the days of The Big Bad Bruins. When the NHL decided to not do business with ESPN they shot themselves in the arse. Bettman has done a terrible job and they need to reduce the league by at least 5 teams. Also they need to retro fit every arena to the international size ice surface which produces better hockey as we see in the Olympics. Here in Worcester the AHL IceCats went out of business faster than a hooker running from the cops at the Port O Call in Buzzards Bay. People will not buy an inferior product.

Watch some of the NESN classic Bruins games and look at Ray Bourque at 19 or 20 years old. He is a stick figure compared to the Bourque we knew on the Colorado Avalanche. Was he on steroids? I dont think so. Barry Bonds should be left alone. The fans and owners want the players to do amazing things and Barry has delivered. If you dont like it then do what I do and dont buy a ticket to an MLB, NHL, NBA or NFL game. I bought 2 Red Sox tickets last year as part of a package at the Copley Marriott but that was my only purchase in 2006. Sure they get some of my money from NESN on the cable but if every fan did what I did then these players and owners would know that the fans are really in control. If you buy a ticket for $200 to see Barry Bonds then you should BOO YOURSELF....not Barry. The real heros are in Iraq and Afghanistan anyway. Final Four is Spurs, Cavs, Jazz and Pistons aka Bad Boys. Looks like a Spurs vs Pistons Finals to me. As for the Celtics they are like Andy Dufresne when he had to climb thru the 500 yard sewer pipe to escape Shawshank. Even with the 1st pick in the draft I only put them at the 300 yard point in that pipe. In other words as fans we still have 200 yards of raw sewerage to crawl thru before we get to bask in the fresh water and hold our hands up in thanks to God. There si a one on one interview with Danny Ainge and Mike Giardi on NECN video where Ainge says the best career of a 2007 draftree could come from the 8th or 9th pick ala the year Pierce and Dirk went 9 and 10. By the way Giardi's Dad Gus used to Coach the Falmouth Clippers footbalkl team and was a player at Syracuse. My Dad had to inspect his house for insurance circa 1978 and I went with him and met Gus who was out doing yard work. He had the strongest legs I had ever seen in my life and he told his some of his linebacker stories. I think he coaches up in Cow Hampshire somewhere now. Enjoy weekend.

I watched some of the reality training series leading up to Mayweather vs de la Hoya but didnt buy the fight. I knew they wouldnt try to kill each other as they are already both fat cats with more to lose than to win. The Nantucket song sounded like it was being performed by Hillbillies on acid. Who are those freakazoids? Any way I will be on the Cape this weekend to take Mom out to dinner in Hyannis. Looking forward to the trip down....bringing lots of wampum from Worchester.

I was only drunk once in my life...unfortunately it was from 1980 until 1989. This place in Mashpee that burned down used to be called The Farm. Another place in Mashpee I used to drink was called On The Rocks that featured metal bands. Bobby Byrnes Mashpee has good drinks but my buddy was banned from there after a waitress carded us 3 times one night.

Right now the Milwaukee Brewers have the bet record in baseball with a miniscule payroll. The Red Sox and Yankees are going to find that the teams with young talent will prevail. The Red Sox have one Championship since 1918 and the Yankees have been shut out since 2000 when their stream of talent from the minors began evaporating. A team like the Tigers with a lights out bullpen are better suited to the playoffs than the Sox or Yankees with sore arms coming in for the 7th and 8th. The Yanks just signed a 45 year old pitcher and the Red Sox have a bald first baseman and a third baseman with gray hair. Come October both of these teams will be Texas Toast. Anaheim will paly Cleveland or Detroit in the ALCS. As for Randy Moss he is another re-tread that the Pats are trying to use to cover up poor drafting in past years. Bruschi should be playing for Whithall Nursing Home and Maroney is not a 16 game back like LT. Man-genius in New York will be making life VERY uncomfortable for Belichick after he leaves Nantucket and comes back to the Mainland for 2007 NFL season.

In response to: Plane bounces off Marstons Mills home
The real question here is should that airport in Marstons Mills still be operating. I thought they were going to shut taht down a few years ago. The real estate must be worth MILLIONS that the Town of Barnstable could tax big time if developed. When I was 10 years old in 1970 the Barnstable Fair was held next to the airport and this area was largely unihabited. Now the Mills are thickly settled. I used to see the Hood Blimp anchored at that air strip. Off topic...Right now I am sitting 1 mile from the Worcester airport that does not have a single commercial flight in or out while Hyannis is thriving.

I just got back from a week in Los Angeles. Last year we went to Orlando. These places are tourist meccas because people can go there and have a good time....unlike Cape Cod. They are kicking our arses for the tourist dollar. Hell, in Barnstable all bars close by 1am and ALL stores close at midnight. When we were in Anaheim (my kids are 8 and 10) we went out for dinner some nights around 10pm after days at Disney. If kids are up that late what time do you think adults stay up to? Just like Monpon the ENTIRE Cape is tourist unfriendly. I live in Worchester now and many of these people now go to Maine or Foxwoods that use to come to the Cape. Downtown Hyannis is an eyesore. The only bar on Main Street that ever has a line is Roo Bar. Back in my heyday (1980-1985) the West End of Haynnis and the Strip in Yarmouth (Rascals, Compass, etc) was packed. When I worked in Centerville a guy we worked with charged a $1.00 for a sheet of paper with directions to the Kennedy Compound. As for the Red Sox vs Yankees thing the rivalry will never get back to the Fisk/Munson/Reggie/Yaz era standard.

If Deval Patrick is for the wind farm it must be because it will provide more no show State jobs and he is getting a piece of the action. The Worcester Airport (which has NO commercial flights) would be a better place for a wind farm. I have been saying this for 5 or 6 years and the former Worchester Mayor Jordan Levy proposed it on his radio show a few months ago and they called him a genius.

I moved from Centerville to Worcester in 1985 and this city has NOTHING. Hyannis has 10 times more store variety than Worcester. Water Street?? I would feel safer in Baghdad than down there. Worcester does have 3 Starbucks now. I have never had a cup of coffee in my life but the Starbucks Iced Teas and Frappuccinos are out of this world. The Starbucks on Grove St this morning had a line out the door. The Starbucks prices keep the "steerage" crowd at Dun kins which is nice! Starbucks has a place in Mashpee but they need to come inot Hyannis. People need a little pampering every day and going to the coffee shop is better than a stop at Jacks Lounge or Buds Place in Hyannis for a couple pops. Starbucks is now doing breakfast sandwiches too. i bought stock in Strabucks (SBUX) 2 years ago..I am holding on to it!!!! Yes Whole Foods is awesome. My wife hits the one in Bellingham and the sliced fruit is expensive but VERY good.

This originated in LA about 7 years ago. An investigative reporter for CBS-2 found all kinds of health code violations on camera so the city came up with this system. Great work Monpon! I am printing this NBA missive and will read it the next time I have to go to "drop anchor". Keep the articles under 5 minutes reading time as after 5 minutes on the bowl the risk of hemorroids increases. Do you read NBA freak Bill Simmons on ESPN2 aka The Sports Guy? I read him religously along with John Buccigross (former Cape TV 11 guy) from ESPN on the NHL and Peter King from CNNSI.com on the NFL. Have a great weekend!

In Peter Kings CNNSI.com column today he quotes the new Patriot free agent LB Thomas as saying "We need to get out of Iraq and worry about Global Warming". BARNSTABLE WINS !!! Clippers are sunk. Now the Red Raiders take on the Framingham Strip Mallers on Saturday in Bourne. Too bad the Cape Cod Coliseum is no more or this game would pack the 5000 sets. As a Umass-Amherst grad I have hitched my wagon to our basketball team that won a share of the Atlantic 10 Regular season championship yesterday on CH 38. Living in Worcester you see a lot of "hockey people" that go to the AHL games whether they are in Providence, Lowell, Worchester, Manchester or Springfield. Some of these hillbillies in Central Mass literally live and die with these minor league hockey teams. A guy I work with almost killed himself when the IceCats went out of business in Worcester 2 years ago. All of these minor teams have to be taking fannies out of the Bruins games at The Garden. The Celtics are pretty much unwatchable. Delonte West's girlfriend probably had the right idea to just end it all. The C's roster has more stiffs than Doane, Beal and Ames in Hyannis. The Red Sox will have a good year but they have too many automatic outs in the lineup like Varitek, Pedroya and Crisp to make a serious run. The bullpen is emptier than the market for good year round full time jobs on Cape Cod. The Barnstable vs Falmouth hockey game tonight should be a BLOODBATH!

I was at Jordans 63 point Playoff game as well. My roommate from Umass had 2 season tickets but had invited somone else from Umass for that game. The 3 of us got out of the car and just started screaming EXTRA TICKETS!!!!! This guy came over and said here just give me face value (which was like $25 in those days). I sat next to the guy who sold me the ticket (loge seat to boot) and he told me he was a fork lift salesman who usually gave all the tix to customers but his wife and kids were away for April vacation so he came into town. He knew he had cleaned me out of money so he bought me beer and popcorn the whole game. When the game went into 2 overtimes the rich folk in the section were all scrambling for dimes...there were no cell phones and they wanted to call home to tell the wives to extend the VDR record time so the whole game would be on tape. Good stuff Monpon! Love the link to the Kordic fight. When I was going to Barnstable High in the 70s we had the Cape Cod Cubs minor league hockey team at the old Cape Cod Coliseum in Yarmouth. Me, my Dad and my brother spent a lot of great nights there watching old time hockey. If I win the Mega Millions tonight I will bring Pro Hockey back to Cape Cod. When the Coliseum closed the Cape lost a jewel. The concerts, hockey, wrestling and other shows there were good for the community. Plus as a kis if you got to play hockey there it was exciting even if the 5000 seats were empty. I think if they had built that in downtown Hyannis it would still be there and would never have become a warehouse. Those were good times. The Celtics and their dancers both stink. Get behind my alma mater Umass as our basketball team is in first place in the Atlantic 10 and could go to the big dance. And our cheerleaders and dance team aren't Hos!!!!! Have a great weekend!!!

Democrats cant bring themselves to admit the fact that Bush's response to what happened on 9/11 has been correct. Of course not everything has gone perfect but when Bush stood on the rubble and said "the people who did this will soon hear from us" he sent a message to our enemies that has worked. The Democrats have NEVER articulated what their response to the events of 9/11 would be and they still have no plan. The Iraq War costs absoulutely nothing in real dollars. Another 9/11 attack and every American would see their 401K value cut in half. That makes the money spent in Iraq a GREAT investment on Bush's part. Maybe there a few people on this board that could use a class in economics over at CCCC. If confidence is lost in our economy because of terrorist attacks then we are in big trouble. Too bad the people who had to jump off the World Trade Center on 9/11 wont be able to attend the March. We have built the greatest country in the World over the last 400 years. The Al Queda groups of the world choose to not work as hard as we have to make their own lands great but to decimate ours and bring us down to their level. They are jealous of our success. After the attacks on 9/11 America had to respond in some fashion. Bush devised a plan and executed it and we have had ZERO attacks since then so it has been SUCCESSFUL. I have never heard how the Democrats would have responded to the attacks other than Moonbat ideas about waiting for the French to help us or "diplomatic avenues". War ended slavery and the Nazis. It will also end terrorism. When was the last suicide bombing on Israeli civilians?? I dont remember and that is because the Syrians and Iranians as scared to death and Saddam is DEAD (he was paying the families of suicide bombers). At least Bush had a plan and did something...unlike the Left who would rather attack Bush than the people that want to load them and their kids on a plane and fly it into a skyscraper. Wake up Cape Cod!!!!

Sorry if I hit below the belt Cod but this subject gets me going. Before we took over Iraq there were almost daily suicide bombings in Israel. Lebanaon is a better place now too and our friends in Kuwait and Qatar are secure. The Middle East is too strategically important to let it fall into the wrong hands. The Kurds (33% of Iraq) love America and are great allies in the region. I think a lot of people have been polluted by the left wing media (see CC Times). I will continue to support the building of bases in Iraq and Afghanistan and I will support the President. I am going to have a Heineken now!

Cod - Are you referring to the "no win" war that has kept your carcass alive the past 5 years and the tank of your SUV full? Go cut off your pony tail and take off your leg warmers and maybe you will start thinking straight. By the way my 401K was up 18% last year (2006). Maybe you should spend less time bad mouthing the USA and watching your investments!!!! Scott From Barnstable

The Pats were able to wiggle off the hook against the Jets. The Patriots "old legs" defense was exposed by the Jets offense all day, but the lethal lateral at the end of the 3rd quarter was the killer. A very stupid call. If the Jets had held on to the ball in that series they would have scored points on 4 out of 5 drives as the Pats defense was sucking wind all day. Their previous 4 NYJ drives were FG, TD Punt, FG and then the lateral play killed all hopes for the upset that was VERY attainable. The Pats ended up with just 11 more total yards than the Jets for the game which shows how deceiving the score was.

But now it is on to San Diego and the home of Ron Burgundy. I keep hearing the talk about Philip Rivers but how about Tom Brady's last road playoff game. HE WAS AWFUL. Who can forget Champ Bailey "posterizing" Brady on the INT (I have that pic on my screensaver). Speaking of awful how about Belichick running up and down the sidelines like a high school cheereleader at the end of the Jets game? The Patriots cried like little girls all Winter, Spring and Summer about Denver's reaction to deep sixing them last year and they pull a stunt like this? They didnt keep it classy.

In last years Pats vs Chargers game the Pats were only able to muster 74 yards rushing in a 41-17 rout. LT ran for 134 by himself. Without the run working the game was put in Brady's hands and the final score will tell you how that worked out. The Chargers will do the same thing this week and let Brady try to pass on them. The Patriots receiver corps reminds me of the gang from the old TV show F-Troop. These ham and eggers will be the downfall of the Patriots and San Diego will wear down the Pats defense for a 29-10 win. There were a total of just 5 punts (none in 2nd half) in the Pats vs Jets game as neither team could play defense. It will be totally different this Sunday and The Bolts will capitalize on the Pats sub par special teams. The Murph will be full of hostile fans and remember the fear and confusion in the eyes of Tom Brady last year in Denver? The 2006 Pats will crumble and go down as another ONE AND DONE team.

Have a great week guys

I do drink water, Diet Coke and heineken though. I got sick on hot chocolate as a boy at Kennedy Rink and never had a hot drink since. In the last five years how many of our Navy ships and embassies have been bombed with loss of life....ZERO. Oh but Bush has nothing to do with that. Dow is up around 12000 but Bush had nothing to do with that. You people must be spending too much time at Hooters in Hyannis staring at the melons because you have lost touch with reality. Come across the street to the 19th Hole and find out what the REAL people think.

All I know is that the voters have great brains for not electing Gore and Kerry. If they had been elected Cape Cod Today would now be written in Arabic. Bush is foing a great job with the economy and defending America. The Jihadists have a stated goal of wiping us out an creating a world in their warped vision (see Taliban). Bush will be remembered as a great President because he didnt care what the polls said and did what was right.

The stated goal of the Islamic Jihadists is to wipe out all other religions so they can create a world in their vision. They even want to use a nuclear holocaust to wipe out as many people as possible and then start their own warped society. Are we suppose to sit here and let them do it. Look at the problems England already has with all of the radicals there. We will not wait for it to come to our shores. Luckliy God and the American people have given George Bush the authority to protect us from this evil and hatred. A new Iraq will spawn a better future for the youth of the world and it will not be easy. Wiping out slavery and the Nazis cost millions of lives but the World is better off. You have the right to protest but you shouldnt be living in a world of delusion either. Happy New Year!

You do a great job and I wouldnt change a thing. Love the pics of the perps and the other shots from around town. Looking forward to a great 2007 from CWN and I hope to spend a lot more time on the Cape this year. THANKS FOR A GREAT WEBSITE !!!

Massachusetts has no clout in National Elections. Look at the Presidential races and all of the good candidates...Bush 1 and 2, Clinton, Reagan were from the South and West. That is where the population and electoral votes are as Kerry found out. Deval Patrick will run for Kerry's Senate seat and maybe Romney will take him on.

Good luck to the CCYP! I hope you guys discuss some ways to bring good full time jobs to the Cape. I had to leave the Cape when I was 25 to find work and the last 20 years living in Worcester have sucked although I love my job. The Silicon Sandbar dream seems to be dead but maybe a casino would generate some good year round jobs. Commuting to Boston in a tin can is not pleasant but i would do it to move back home to Barnstable. Good luck guys and gals!!

I grew up in the Centerville Highlands just off exit 5. I remember you would come off the highway and just turn your headlights off and if you didnt see anything you just would go straight onto Service Road without stopping. Now that intersection is like running the gauntlet. Back in the 1980's I could run from Old Stage down Oak St across Service Road and all the way to 132 and 6A meet and maybe see 4 cars. Now it is more like 50 when I run that 3 mile stretch. That area has lost a lot of charm.....and gained a lot of punks.
12/16/06 @ 11:02 am
I was one of the first patrons EVER at Pufferbellies back around 1980. I was grandfathered in to the 18 year old drinking age law and then they raised it to 20 a few years later. Pbellies was more preppy then. I think it is hip hop teeny bopper place now. Lots of good times there....hope BPD took down some of the punks from Hyannis last n ight.

BACK IN THE DAY (CIRCA 1984) WHEN I HAUNTED DOWNTOWN HYANNIS BARS ON A NIGHTLY BASIS THE 7 HOODED MUGGERS WOULD HAVE BEEN IN DEEP TROUBLE. THE COPS WOULD HAVE BROUGHT BODYBAGS INSTEAD OF HANDCUFFS IF THESE GUYS TRIED THAT STUFF WITH MY CREW. HOPE THEY GET SOME TIME ON THE ROCK PILE.

Has Deval Patrick already got the paperwork ready to let this guy go? Johnnie Cochrane would have won this case very easily. Still lots of questions around this case. Maybe in appeal he will take the stand because this strategy was about as good as the Patriots the last 2 weeks.

I am from Barnstable and proud to say Kerry Heaely carried our town. Thanks for opposing the Cemocrats that want to run this state into a p;ace where 50% of people pay high taxes and 50% are on the dole. To anyone that voted Democrat here is what the leader of Al Queda in Iraq said today: "So they voted for something reasonable in the last elections." I am proud to say I voted Republican AGAINST the wishes of the terrorists and I support President Bush. Keep fighting Dick and the State will be better for it!!!

Stay off Route 132 at all costs. Best bet is to take Phinneys Lane to the lights and then take Bearses Way and cut thru the Mall. Or take that new back road that comes out behind Shaws/Outback Steak house. Driving on the Cape is like being in NASCAR. You have to be good. I hope the injured couple gets back on their feet. Also dont travel these roads at peak times.

As a Republican I am energized to vote to show the left wing media that they cannot drown us out with their negative spin. Outlets like CNN and Time Magazine have agendas to bring down the GOP that actually backfire on the Democrats. Punks like Michael Moore do more to get Republicans to the ballot box that pleas from GOP pols. I am now living in a Democrat stronghold here in Worcester where they have swallowed the Kool Aid but everyday I see more and more HEALEY/HILLMAN stickers and yard signd so there is some hope. My analysis is that the Republican voters have listened to all the crap and are silently enraged and that will turn into huge turnouts on Election Day. The Moonbats might get Deval elected but nationally I see a good day for the GOP.
