Nautical way is just as bad,if not worse, than GP drive. I'm surprised this incident made the paper, there are so many of them there.

re: Mid-Cape Centers. They were never helpful in the Hyannis Location, more interested in talking with other staff and if you dared to ask for help finding something, they acted like they didn't want to sell it to you. Plus, they never had anything anyways, and with the Home Depot competition you'd think they would lower their prices, not so at all...they were more expensive to boot. You could drive by at any given time and see no one at the store, so I don't think I'm the only one that feels that way about them.

Looking forward to seeing more blog postings from you. Since one of your siblings had a learning disability, you undoubtedly ran into many roadblocks, stubborn school systems, and tons of frustration, not to mention watching your sibling fight day in and day out for someone to believe, and help. Good luck.

jane.logan...an old adage comes to mind: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Too many live by it these days and is it any wonder why? There's no money to fix before someone gets hurt, killed, maimed. Preventative measures are discouraged in so many things, does this really come as a surprise.

I guess Barnstable's old-fogie filled town council couldn't get what they wanted out of him for free like they did with BJ's...if you remember, they made BJ's get a separate storage facility on Barnstable Rd, and also made them build/improve the 'thruway' and traffic lights to get to BJ's. Maybe he'd have had better luck if he asked for a bar to be built there.

Crusader, I am pretty sure-at least I hope- no one believes the Cape (you so fondly call the island) is corruption-free, but rather, not the ONLY place that displays corruption. Read the papers, it's all around. I love it here; but personal issues are forcing us to venture off the Cape.

the sales tax isn't THAT much higher, sheesh. If the through-the-roof gas prices didn't deter tourism, I highly doubt this will. While I don't agree with higher taxes for meals and rooms, It certainly isn't fair to have a tax hike based on industry; it should be one, across the board fee that ALL taxpayers share.

In response to: Mary Jo Kopechne died 40 years ago today
"To bartenderfromhell, somebunny, and buzz: Please read the article. What I show is that no one including the Senator knew that Kopechne was in the car until the next morning!!!"

I hope you don't really believe what you are writing. Still, I'm open to suggestions from someone that was there during this time. Did she sneak into the car? Someone from the party put her in the car? I suppose its all possible, seeing as Kennedy's reputation for being sober has been tarnished, but I don't buy it. And neither does anyone else. I don't wish harm to anyone but what goes around comes around and as one poster said here 'someone's got a lot of 'splainin to do at the pearly gates!' No disrespect Mary, but claiming he didn't even know she was in the car is very farfetched.

In response to: Mary Jo Kopechne died 40 years ago today
I have to agree with bartenderfromhell, Mary... she died because of someone else's negligence and also, someone else's poor judgement to save his own butt by waiting 11 hours before anyone could come to her aid. if this happened today, he would be tried for manslaughter. As to whether or not she was intentionally killed, only two people know the answer to that, one can't speak and the other can't tell the truth.

Demographic area doesn't apply in this case...yet. But what I'm talking about there is, someone lives in an area deemed crime ridden so they must be a criminal. And we aren't talking about Jordan Mendes either. I'm talking about judging people by their looks before you know what they are all about, even if your most likely are right. I agree if you are known by the company you keep but that doesn't ALWAYS make you a bad person.

In response to: Driver's Licenses for Illegals - NO!
I do not, in any way, support those that are here illegally. Do I think they are all bad people? no, but they *ARE* breaking the law, not to mention putting a strain on services that are already stretched very thin. They should all be deported back to where they came, and their right to become a citizen should be stripped because they came here illegally. However, this country isn't ready or willing (take your pick, or stance in the argument) to do this as of yet. Allowing them to have licenses will allow us to know who they are and also, to protect us US citizens should one of these 'illegals' rear-end us, or worse.

Question if anyone can answer: Can an unlicensed person obtain insurance for their auto? If not, I can see some benefits to licensing illegals.

"If they don't want me to dole it out, they shouldn't be throwing stones."

02/23/09 @ 9:15 pm
Crusader, why do you even care about Cape Cod? God knows you've said it enough times; you have a good paying job with great benefits, Cape Cod has brought you almost nothing but pain, you love where you live now...you've been screwed by god knows how many bosses and jobs, all of LE, judges and lawyers are corrupt down here, bla bla bla. You blame Cape Cod for ALL your problems. Maybe they started for you while you were, here but I think they would have started anywhere. You say your life has greatly improved since leaving here, awesome, I'm happy for you! But if that's true, why are you here, ranting about how horrible Cape Cod is, insulting those of us who DO make a life here on Cape Cod for better or worse? We have our problems, so do other cities and states. How many women do you actually know, that have been 'brainwashed' by their men? And, what qualifies you to make that assumption. You think we females on cape cod can't think for ourselves, and only you can? The world is doomed. I'm sorry you had bad experiences that started here. But we personally didn't cause them.

Obs... omg that is horrible. mine is 140 lbs, a solid ox, we call him "Rox" he eats well and then some. loves to be with me. Sorry to hear about your dog...it's easier for the towns to just rid themselves of the problem at the outcry of the residents, same goes for human crimes too. Lynch first, ask questions later. Maybe you should get a new one, the shelters are full of animals that need homes :(
I did see the story on the chimp, and I wonder if the owner will be charged as well. If it were a Rott or pitt they would be. The chimp was shot if I'm not mistaken, sparing the owner the pain and agony of having to put it down or wait for someone else to decide that. The chimp was in the wrong; but like any animal, they can turn but doesn't it make you wonder why? what provoked it? Being protective of its' owners?

Windbag: I have a golden mix, and a rottweiler. The accident was serious, but my friend is recovering. I work M-F as well, and have another job on Saturdays plus some nights. I walk my dogs in the same route mostly, trust me, no one will bother me with them near. Although one guy about 6 months ago did stop his car and tried to say my rottweiler was his. He proceeded to get out of the car, walk toward my dog, and my dog, well, wasn't too receptive. Needless to say he did get back in his car and drive off. :shrugs:

Interesting indeed. An ex-employee signed one of these agreements with full intentions of carrying them out. Because they signed this agreement, they can't seek employment in their specialty field.

01/18/09 @ 8:24 pm
Cru, homeowners need to take responsibility for the messes they are in as well. The fine print is there; we don't always read it because we are in a hurry to close so we can get bills paid, remodeling done, etc. Lenders are partly to blame for pushing the loans upon those that are desperate but utlimately, the home owner needs to read, and get someone to help them read if they don't understand all of it. Doesn't make it better, or easier to swallow when you are facing forclosure but unfortunately, the truth. I'm excluding those that are in forclosure due to loss of jobs, medical leaves, that sort of thing in this instance.

Re: Ofc Marino commended for felony drug arrest. Firstly, good job. I think its fair to say that all of us here want to see Cape Cod cleaned up. bitter said, "Aren't they supposed to commit a crime first? And who decides what is reasonable? Or who is suspicious?" I would guess, only guess, that if you are patrolling an area and come across an occupied vehicle after midnight in a plaza that is otherwise closed (correct me if I'm wrong here, I pretty sure that plaza is closed at night) it would be suspicous. Maybe someone needed help, they were lost, hurt, sick, or doing something they shouldn't be doing... so you investigate. I'd say that's grounds for suspicion. The rest is history, already written.

re, your slithering snake comment. You only said it to jab me with a hot poker. I'm immune to those :-) We all are only expressing our feelings and opinions, after all, and shouldn't be taking things personally right? Re: Insurance penalties. With all the forclosures, failing economy, unemployment, yadda yadda yadda... I wonder who deems insurance 'affordable' for these folks that do not carry it. I said this on CCTimes, but it still amazes me that a country can let the state mandate insurance, putting people in further hardship status, yet they can bail out Auto industries, banks and the like. Beam me up scottie, there's obviously no one home here.

I worked in SNF's for many years, and I agree with what Bruce said about quality of life, care, dignity and equal rights. It shouldn't even have to be fought for but these folks fight for it every day. If they don't have family to fight for them, they will get lost in the cracks. These folks are people too, some forgotten by the families they raised, the services they performed and their contribution to society. It's nice to be able to sit down with them and chat, you can learn all sorts of things about the past and who they were. To Maria, keep up the good fight, even if it turns up nothing was done in error its nice to see family fighting for the rights of their loved ones.

'Kennedy and Kopechne did not intend to return to Edgartown at that time; that Kennedy did not intend to drive to the ferry slip and his turn onto Dike Road was intentional." Boyle also concluded "there is probable cause to believe that Edward M. Kennedy operated his motor vehicle negligently ... and that such operation appears to have contributed to the death of Mary Jo Kopechne," but he does not recommend criminal prosecution against Kennedy.'

And with an article reminding us of the Kennedy's getting away with murder, do we really want Caroline anywhere near the senate?? I don't.

I hope her family has found peace with this. What goes around comes around, Sen. Kennedy.

I'm not seeing anything wrong with authority to do so to ask for ID. Unless I am hiding something, which I am not... but as far as terrorist in the airports, I do believe you have to have good solid ID to get a ticket so can't be all that hard to identify a passenger. Where National security is concerned, officials should be able to ask for ID of people entering public places such as airports. Most other buildings require staff to wear ID badges so no ID badge, no access.

good article, Jim. It's easy to pick out the ones that are. Go to Big brothers/Big Sisters and donate crafts, tickets for events, and most important TIME.

We are all contributing taxes to alot of causes we don't support. And you are right, I have a LOT of nerve. However, I don't consider myself cozying myself up to anyone. Assuming you are talking about GW Bush.

Bitter, not like I was aiming that at you, I was not. One of my sons WAS in the war, one nephew is there still. Friends of my son who practically grew up with my kids are there as well. thank you for the support, I'll let them know you support the US of A over there. What are you contributing? Besides finding something negative to say about every poster in here. Are you always so angry?
12/28/08 @ 8:17 pm
If you don't agree with what our government is doing (and who does on everything?) be pro-active about it. Get involved, get petitions going, change has to start somewhere... we can't all whine about it and then sit back and say 'not me, not my job'. I for one would not want to live in any other country, and why do you think we have so many immigrants? Because they don't want to live in their countries either. Thats why I initially supported the iraq 'war' to begin with; help them stand on their own two feet so they can have what we all have without leaving their country. We had to fight for our freedom, I'm sure it wasn't pretty then either. Race, religion, color, ethnic, I don't care if the martians come here-as long as they support the USA and are pro-active in making it work for them, as well as the rest of us. Why argue about it? Italians, Jewish, Muslim, American. We are all people. there, that's my two cents.

acepro, all you are doing is proving that we should NOT do business with Saturn, beware of General Manager, he bites. And, we all work long hours as well, might I add, you seem to have time to blog *smiles* For someone working long hours, that is, absolutely. CCToday did not bash Saturn of Hyannis, and the disclaimer I believe absolves them of responsibility of what posters post. You might want to familiarize yourself with the commenting policies along the bottom.

This is an online newspaper acepro. You've obviously misconstrued some of the contents for your own purpose. Calm down and re-read what you are writing.

I apologize, in advanced, editors, for stepping out of line on the subject. :-)

acepro, I think the guy you need to go after is Winnell for saying he worked there if he doesn't. CCToday is only printing what is on his page. No retraction is necessary. Off subject... Anyone know the steps one needs to take to obtain a firearm/FID legally? Thinking it might not be a bad idea to have.
12/21/08 @ 9:28 pm
I brought all three of my kids up to respect elders in general...did not specify LE but they fit the bill of elders. Must have done something right, neither is in jail or doing drugs or selling them either and I would know if they were, they live with me still. Teen pregnancy in itself is another whole matter. Too bad we couldn't decide who would be a good parent, who would not be-but in any case, if you can't take care of yourself you shouldn't even think you can take care of someone else.
12/21/08 @ 8:33 pm
Maybe the adults that cross these kids paths, even if they aren't their parents, should have a responsibility to protect these kids too. Teachers, counselors, employers, we all see what's going on and choose to turn a blind eye hoping nothing will happen on 'our time'. I've seen it: "He's a great worker, shows up on time, so what if he smokes a little weed or deals it to make ends meet"
There is a law mandating teachers, doctors, social workers, caregivers etc, to report abuse, why not one for kids in trouble? Make the parents accountable, most of them know what's going on. We need to start somewhere. IMHO.

Hyannis here...We got 6 inches in our yard... the snow was so heavy that alot of the branches from the trees in the backyard bent over to the ground. The hollies looked very beautiful though, covered in snow. As for a driveway, what driveway lol.

No one wanted this to be the outcome. But it is what it is. I've said it before, I'll say it again. We need stronger police forces and drug task teams to clean this up. 13 years old?? omg. I can remember what my boys looked like at 13, their biggest issue was who was going to play on playstation first. How horrible. I wonder what the father is thinking. Second thought, I don't want to know.

You'll all be somewhat surprised at the outcome of this 13 year old 'friend'. Shocking.

Cru is right... we need to start with home and reel these drug dealers in. The drug task force and local police need more staff focused on this so that we can re-claim our town:( True alot of people have come from off-cape but there had to be something here for them to start. Let this kid rest in peace...whatever all else, he certainly did not deserve this to happen to him:( I remember this kid as a bright eyed, smiling boy who always wanted to help. Let him rest.
