In response to: Mr. President, There Is Absolutely Nothing Funny About Cannabis Prohibition
Police officers have a lot of discretion in regards to effecting an arrest or not. If someone were to show an officer that they have some need (i.e. medical)for the cannibis, I think
you'll find most officers will allow that person to continue on their way without interuption. I'm sure you wont believe it, but believe me- it has happened, and more that you know.

Supercrew posted:
"And bitter, when LE encounters someone who uses pot for medicinal reasons, they leave them alone- just like anyone who has a script for any pain medications."
This is totally inapplicable
in Massachusetts and can't be applied here.
Wrong you are, Ms. Piggie...
It is applicable here, and I have applied it. Many times, I might add, as my family delt with cancer AND glaucoma, and had doctors scripts that allowed it's use.
Try again.

Pot takes anxiety away.
Big business (especially liquor) THRIVES on human anxiety.
That's why you have stinking Republicans like Senator Scott Brown cashing in on a chance to make a name for himself with this issue.
If you overdose on pot, you fall asleep.
If you overdose on alcohol, YOU DIE.
Maybe "skull and bones" really does control the world.
And when you are operating heavy equipment, driving a school bus, operating a car- Falling asleep is definitely better!

Back in the late 1800's and early 1900's, many persons who were arrested/ institutionalized for mental health reasons, were ultimately sent to the Northampton "insane asylum" (later changed to Northampton State Hospital) for help, because law enforcement and the court systems were overloaded, and ill equiped to provide help. Fast forward to 1992-95, and the state hospital(s) were releasing more patients than they were taking in. Now, all those pateints that were released? They are now being handled by the Police departments surrounding that area. What goes around comes around. So much for providing help to those who need help (rehab, etc..) Theres an old saying...Those who do not learn from the past, are doomed to relive it. Your pie in the sky rehab/ medical dream for addicts, is strangely similiar to the old State hospitals. "They dont need prison, they need rehab and medical assistance". Yup. Right up until someone figures out that it is a bottomless problem that takes voracious amounts of money- then well close them up.

Dick- the amount of heroin on the street has nothing to do with Law Enforcement.. It has everything to do with who is over in the country that supplies it...Afganistan. And no, the military isn't bringing it over, which I'm sure will be the spin that YOU will put on it. It has everything to do with the privitized companies that are supporting the military, and have the ability to come and go with little supervision.

Lets try this example. Speeding was "decriminalized" (I know it is a civil charge, but for an example) No one would get a speeding ticket, no matter what their speed was. Will that make people slow down? The only thing that stops people from speeding (beside common sense) is the fear of being caught and ticketed.
