In response to: US Interior Secretary Sees Cape Wind Decision By Year-End
Excellent point bittersweet! There are so many costs to factor into our electricity bills! "The energy market has never been free — large energy producers such as coal and oil have always been able to win government subsidies of various kinds. To take just one example, the federal government has paid out $35 billion over the past 30 years to cover the medical expenses of coal miners who suffer from "black lung disease." These subsidies mean that the true cost of coal is not reflected in its market price." awea.org

You stated that Cape Wind won't be able to sell their electricity. I doubt that Cape Wind has dedicated 8 years to getting their project permitted only to discover that they can not sell the electricity.

I think being home to America’s first offshore wind farm, getting an average of 75% of our electricity from a renewable resource qualifies as “being a more sustainable community.” If Cape Wind is not able to sell its electricity (as you stated) then it simply won’t come to fruition. Wind energy has no fuel cost and will supply rate-payers with stable long-term prices.

Misinformation like what you are spreading may be exactly why Cape Wind has taken 8 years to get to this point. Electricity rates will be competitive with current rates and wind energy offers stable prices-unlike the fluctuating and rising fuel costs associated with fossil fuels.

Cape Wind is the Cape and Island's first major step towards being a more sustainable community and the majority of local residents support it. Luckily the battle is almost over and people like Barbara Hill are getting the word out about this crucial project.

Gonzo-the focus of the article was about the sleezy tactics of Cape Wind opponents. Your comment just shows that the Alliance's tactics worked on you too.

This is just shameful. Thank you CCToday for bringing this to light. Thank goodness no one takes that site seriously. Still, it is a disrepectful gesture and a shameless attempt to raise money for the Alliance.

Possee-The Mass Climate Summer volunteers have been cycling across the state raising awareness about climate change. I think they earned their boat ride.

Possee-the article CLEARLY STATES that this event is not attributed to global warming, it is being used as an example of potential future effects of climate change.

In response to: What Global Warming looks like in Chatham today
The article makes it clear that while it is obvious that this particular event can not be directly attributed to global warming, this is what we will start to see as sea levels rise. "CPN told cc2day that the erosion caused by storm surges we witnessed today has been a part of Cape Cod's history and has continually reshaped the Cape's coastline throughout its history. The group says, however, the intensity and speed of this erosion will inevitably increase as climate change heightens the frequency and strength of storm surges."

Someone please tell permoc that spreading the message about climate change might be worth standing on the grass for 10 minutes. Even though erosion is a cycle that the Cape has been exposed to from the beginning, rising sea levels will increase erosion dramtically.

I am so glad to see that Deval Patrick stood by his support for Cape Wind-a project that will make Cape Cod a shining example to the rest of our nation in regards to renewable energy. Thanks to everyone who showed up and thanks for everyone who proudly wore their pro-wind power buttons!

This is a great point-I am constantly annoyed when people say that a developer is only doing this to make a profit-do these fisherman sell their catch for free? Or ar they too, out to make a living? What about the ferries? Do they simply enjoy bringing visitots to and from the islands? Or do they charge for their daily voyages? What about the flights?
This project and this company have passed all of the tests and all of the hurdles-build it!

Barbara I find it funny that you say that the lone Cape Wind Supporters "offered nothing supportable, just the standard CW conjecture" when it sounds like that is exactly what the opposition did. There was not a single mention of any argument that is not old, tired and proven to be incorrect.

"This isn't a Dancing with the Stars beauty pageant, Sarah." I am not quite sure where you came up with this comparison but it is unique to say the least. Cape Wind's PR Machine? Or common sense? I have not been taught to loathe the rich, I have been taught to loathe the selfish and the ignorant. I could care less what's in your pocket book.

"With Barnstable about to eliminate 30-40 town jobs, and the town looking for ways to cut costs, isn't it unconscionable to waste money on legal battles, taking the side of only 13% of the people who vote and pay taxes? " Amen Mr. Bartless-these are not times to be wasting tax dollars for selfish reasons.

In response to: Salazar pushes for wind energy and Cape Wind
gonzo-something tells me that in all the years people have put into researching and developing wind power they may have thought about hurricanes (especially, one would think, when dealing with offshore energy). Rest easy-if Katrina hits Cape Cod we have MUCH bigger things to worry about than fixing some roughed-up turbines (which, FYI are stopped after winds reach a certain speed). ANOTHER POINT: People are always worrying about hurricanes and these turbines falling over and littering the beautiful sound-and yet the argument I hear the most is why can't we just put them on land? There's no pleasing everyone. If a hurricane like Katrina hits here you should probably be more concerned about your ceiling collapsing, a tree falling on your house, your house getting completely and irreparably demolished, etc. If you are going to spread fear at least try to be relatively reasonable about it.

Again-my thanks go out to Secretary Salazar!
